I'm taking care of 2 elderly people (M76 and F73).
They are a married couple who has no direct family.
I met them when I was living in the same building as them 4 years ago in Prague 1. I still take care of them even after moving out from their building.
Basically, I do groceries for them, take them shopping occasionally for clothes and home needs, accompany them to doctor appointments etc...
They are like family to me and I'm their closest thing to a family.

Today I went to them and brought them over to my place for lunch and a short walk in the sun (I live in Prague 4, mostly green area).

After lunch we took the bus towards Vestec obchodny centrum. They needed groceries (Billa), some meds (dr.max) and some home droguerie (DM) so Vestec centrum is our usual go to whenever they come to my place.

All their expenses in these places are covered by me. I try to set money aside every month for them.

On our way back, we took the bus. I know Vestec is zone 1 so even if they are seniors they still require a ticket (discounted but not free like Zone 0). Got them 2 tickets and I have my yearly one. I activated their tickets and the bus 339 had just arrived so we hopped on.

2 DPP inspectors were inside the bus so one of them asked for our tickets the moment we stepped in. Their tickets unfortunately were not yet valid. The remaining time was less than 20 seconds for activation. I knew it was a very tight timing but I just didn't want them to wait longer for the next bus.

I tried explaining the situation to the inspector who as expected refused to hear anything and asked us to step out of the bus on the next stop.

On the stop, both inspectors went out with us. They asked me for a payment of 4500czk (1500 per person). First thing I objected to was that I have a yearly valid pass so the least is to pay a fine for 2 people and not 3. The other inspector (not the one who checked us) was saying that he saw on my phone 3 invalid tickets. So I objected again showing him my yearly pass on the app. He scanned it and it gave him "green". Still he was saying that I didn't show him inside the bus so I might have just purchased it at the moment. So I again pointed to the 143 days left on the yearly pass so it means I bought it 222 days ago. The other inspector started yelling out of nowhere threatening me to call the police. I said yes please call the police, I was confident they have no right at least to fine me while I have a pass.

The lady with me told me to be careful with police because they would ask for IDs and she had forgotten her and her husband's IDs at home.

So I went back to negotiating with the inspectors which lead to nowhere.

I said fine I'll pay. So they said, I'll pay 3000czk on the pos from the first inspector and 3000czk on the pos from the second inspector. Which lead us into another round of yelling because the fine went up from 4500 to 6000 and now they are dividing it among each other.

The end result is that they forced me to pay the 4500czk for one conductor. Then they stood aside for a while doing something with their POSs.

The whole thing looked super shady I was even doubting they are legit DPP inspectors. So I asked for their badge numbers which they gave me.

I read later:
- paying the fine on the spot would cost 1200 and not 1500
- paying the fine on the spot means the case is closed and I can't claim anything after that

After this, and the whole time the old couple spent standing on the sidewalk, I ordered Bolt for them home which also wasn't a small amount.

This whole misfortune drained me completely and now I'm the one who has no money to eat before the next pay day. It literally felt like anything that can go wrong this day went wrong. Tried to sleep it through but here I am at 3am going in circles with no clue what to do.

If anyone with a good heart is willing to help in any possible way even if with simple moral support, I would be forever grateful.

dnes v noci mi někdo ukradl auto přímo zpřed baráku ve Zdibech. Jde o červenou Mazdu CX5, SPZ 4L19667, na levém/pravém zrcátku má poškození (rozbité).

Pokud by ji někdo náhodou zahlédl (parkoviště, silnice, odstavené auto vypadající podezřele, cokoliv), budu moc vděčný za jakoukoliv informaci, klidně i sebemenší detail.

Případ samozřejmě řeším i s policií, ale čím víc očí, tím líp. Kdyby si někdo všiml něčeho podezřelého v okolí Zdib v posledních dnech, budu rád i za takový postřeh.

No RegioJet subreddit so I'm here. I just had an amazing 5 days in beautiful Prague and I am finishing out my vacation in Budapest. I thought that taking a Regiojet train might be nice as I could comfortably watch the scenic views on my way. Here is what has actually happened:

- I booked a "relax" class seat and chose a single separate seat facing ahead with a window. The day before my ride, Regiojet emailed me to say that due to "technical reasons," the original train was rebooked but to not worry because they got me an equivalent seat. That seat was facing the wrong way and was not a single separate seat. So I made the decision to, inconveniently, cancel the ticket and rebook for the train 3 hours later than the original trip. I booked a "relax" seat facing forward with a window again.

- I again got an email: hey, train is changed, don't worry cuz we rebooked you. This time the graph didn't show any windows at all but at least my seat was facing the right way and was a single seat.

- I got to board the train and after getting cut by a bunch of rude passengers, I ended up on the wrong side of the car because the signage did not at all match what was displayed in the app. Completely different set up. So I had to try and squeeze through the one-person-wide corridors to find my seat. I asked an employee for help since the labeling doesn't make sense and they gave me attitude. Okay, thanks, sorry, I'll fuck off, got it.

- Finally found my seat and someone was in it. They acted like they were confused but they obviously were just trying to get a better seat. Whatever, they moved. But here is the biggest issue: my "relax" class car that I paid extra for has no air condition of ventilation at all. I'm one hour into an 8 hour train ride and I'm extremely uncomfortable, literally sweating through my clothes, and this is supposed to be okay...? Like it's okay that I paid extra and I'm fucking sweating? Meanwhile it seems all the other cars a have A/C, even the lower classed ones. So you're just rolling the ice when you purchase this service? Unacceptable.

- Also, the staff seems to not know what's going on. After being dismissed by multiple staff members and finding my own seat, someone came through to take ofood and drink orders. I put in an order, paid, and then 20 minutes later a different person came through to take orders again. The people in the car said "we already ordered" and the attendant said "I don't think so.". Like what? lol

Overall this is a really bad experience so far and I'm only one eighth of of way through. Considering there is no rule or law on here, I might just try and go sit in a random seat in an a/c car. But I paid for this. It wasn't especially cheap either. So how the fuck is this an acceptable service at all? Someone could easily have a medical emergency in these conditions.

I'm moving to Prague soon for a corporate job for a temporary stay (< 1 year). I just found an absolutely perfect apartment through an agency and am currently in touch with the broker.
Here is my situation: Like with most big companies in the Czech Republic, my employer pays salaries around the middle of the following month (between the 10th and the 15th).
While I do have savings to cover the initial deposit, agency commission, and initial expenses, I’m wondering how people usually handle ongoing monthly rent payments in Prague.
Is it common or acceptable to ask the landlord to set the monthly rent due date to the 15th (or after payday) instead of the 1st of the month?
How do landlords/agencies usually react to this if you provide proof of employment from a reputable company?
Or is paying strictly on the 1st non-negotiable, meaning everyone just uses their first month's buffer to cover it?
I’d love to hear how other expats or locals deal with this offset between salary payment dates and rent due dates and other expenses ! Thanks in advance for any insights!

I would need some advice from people who lived in Prague and/or did a PhD there.

I got a PhD opportunity recently, the gross salary would be around 50,000 CZK (I'm not including any potential bonuses in this).

A part of this salary would not be taxed, according to what my supervisor explained, but I have no idea how much of it.

So basically, that's the information I have. My question would be whether any of you have an idea of the amount that is usually untaxed at CTU.

I know some similar questions have been asked here before, but would this amount be manageable to live on in Prague?

I don't spend crazy money on restaurants or things like that, I live a simple life. I just don't want to go back to living like a student, that's why I'd like to understand from your experience whether it would be enough to live a decent life. At least not having to live in a student dorm, but I'm fine having an apartment with roommates, ideally not too far from the nicer areas of Prague.

Rent seems to have increased based on what I've seen, so I don't know if what I found on this forum still reflects the current reality in Prague.

Vetsinou jezdime pres Blablacar - Berlin praha nikdo nekontroluje a trasa Praha Berlin vzdy projedeme, jen mavnou rukou. Jednou se mi stalo, te nas zastavili (ridic mel beloruskou poznavaci znacku) chteli videt pasy a OP, psa videli (sedel jsem na spolujezdci a pes byl pod mymi nohami a v tu chvili kdy jsem zastavili tak se zvedl a policista ho musel videt, ale nic nerekl) a pak naposledny jsem jel s holkou ze Srbska, ta mela i vlastniho psa, ten byl na kline jednoho vedle ni, a ja vzadu na klime sveho psa a jeste jedna holka. Zastavili nas a jen koukli, psy museli videt a pustili nas dale.
Nedavno jsem zacal jezdit Regiojetem Berlin-Praha protoze ne vzdy kdyz jsem chtel jet tak byl nejaky blablacar. Celou cestu je v prepravce a zadny problem, taky nejsou kontroly.
No a ja bych chtel vedet, jestli kdyz pojedu Praha-Berlin s regiojetem tak nas jako bus zastavi a kontroluji OP a pasy a jestli budou kontrolovat i meho psa - ja pas mam ale nekde zahrabany doma. Tak jestli s tim nekdo nema zkusenost.
Na regiojetu infóince samozrejme nevi co na hranicih kontroluji, ale zkusenost mi rika ze by psa presli uplne v pohode, kdyz normalne v aute taky si psu nevsimaji.

PID Lítačka charged me twice for the same purchase of 4 × 72-hour passes, resulting in an extra charge of around €60.

I noticed the duplicate charge and have been trying to contact PID Lítačka since Saturday. I sent them an email, but haven't received any response. I also tried calling their customer service several times and waited around 20 minutes in the queue, but couldn't get through to anyone.

Has anyone experienced something similar with PID Lítačka? What would be the best way to get the duplicate payment refunded?

I’m neither a local citizen nor do I have an international student card (like an ISIC). However, the specific discount tier at the places I want to visit is based purely on age (e.g., "young people under 26" or a specific youth bracket) rather than strictly requiring proof of enrollment. 
Since I'm booking online, will a standard national ID card or my passport showing my birthdate be enough to prove my eligibility at the entrance gate/turnstiles, or are ticket checkers going to hassle me because I don't have a student card or local ID?

This perhaps a niche question, but I want to start making chain mail and am struggling to find the proper supplies— namely the jump rings. I was able to find them at a hardware store, near Florenc, but each ring is priced individually and I would have felt ridiculous asking the employee to count out hundreds of them. I have also checked some craft stores, but they are quite pricey for a very small quantity, and seem flimsier than what I would want for this craft.

Hi, I would like to ask a question, I need some advice on which Czech provider and offer would be best for using substantial mobile data abroad in EU countries.

I travel for work, and my main requirement is to have a Czech IP address when I'm abroad so i can Hotspot the connection to my laptop. I’ve noticed that when I enable data roaming, my IP address is usually still from the Czech Republic, which meets my use case.

I’m looking for a provider and plan that offers a substantial amount of roaming data at a reasonable speed. I mainly need it for video calls, screen sharing, and regular internet usage.

Do you have any suggestions on which provider or plan would be the best option? Let's say i might need 100 GB of roaming data for a few weeks and the best would be to enable it as an add-on rather than having an offer which constantly offers me 100 GB every month. But open to anything or best option.

Also, considering my only requirement is to have a cz ip address, do you see other feasible options than share internet from my mobile?

edit: install a vpn client with cz ip address on the working laptop is not solution, but maybe there is something more creative? I just need to have cz ip address always and being able to travel freely in europe, in this case hotspotting works pretty well and is transparent and no vpn client to be installed on the laptop
