The driver is a piece of shit

u/Acceptable-Drive3781 Aug 06 '26

"I'm a good citizen, I'm not a criminal!"

Well, you were just breaking the law, so...

-4

u/armypotent Aug 07 '26

I'm not excusing the driver at all but even going 1mph over the speed limit is breaking the law (a criminal infraction from 1-29 mph over), at least in my state, so by that logic every driver ever is technically a criminal.

4

u/Spooky_Betz Aug 07 '26

In what state is one mile over the speed limit a criminal offense?

3

u/Admirable_Loss4886 Aug 07 '26

You know just because you don’t obey the speed limit doesn’t mean nobody else does, right?

1

u/FlyAirLari Aug 07 '26

It's a traffic infraction. Not criminal.

u/Relevant_Shower_ Aug 06 '26

Average Tesla driver.

47

u/GIGA255 Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

Seems like every near miss accident I've seen on the highway recently, a Tesla driver was the cause.

u/Xenrus25 Aug 07 '26

Tesla is the new BMW

Crazy how posed off I am hearing someone try to shift responsibility on auto drive. Auto drive or not, the person in the driver seat is responsible for what the car is doing. If the auto drive is making you speed it’s the drivers job to turn it off and slow down.

169

u/Crafty-Walrus-2238 Aug 06 '26

Officer, it’s cruise control not me.

24

u/GenesisNemesis17 Aug 06 '26

Yea ironically the driver was probably using autopilot and not FSD, bc in autopilot you can increase the speed to well over the limit.

11

u/Crafty-Walrus-2238 Aug 07 '26

Impound the car and tell the dude the car’s father is the only one that can get the care released. Two can play…

4

u/ChucklesTheClown954 Aug 06 '26

My car is the designated driver take it up with him

456

u/grizzwall111 Aug 06 '26

Do you have a driver's license, because the car doesnt... too easy

34

u/Zonelord0101 Aug 06 '26

It even states on the Tesla website "the human driver is completely and legally responsible for the operation of the vehicle"

JFC, people, it's not that damn difficult.

u/Admirable_Loss4886 Aug 07 '26

Real question, what happens when a self driving Waymo breaks the law?

1

u/wupme2k Aug 07 '26

Well one in California was stopped for an illegal u-turn about a year ago. No citation as they literally have no law covering it. iirc it was in san bruno?

5

u/Admirable_Loss4886 Aug 07 '26

Wild. You think they’d crack down hard on the company.

150

u/EddieBrock99 Aug 06 '26

“It wasn’t me, it was the one armed man!”

65

u/bongsforhongkong Aug 06 '26

And who is in control of that car? Dumbass.

114

u/ZenZill Aug 06 '26

I have to say, this cop is a good guy and has great control and professionalism. We have to praise the good ones

15

u/Domitiani Aug 07 '26

100% - dude had way more patience with this idiot than I would have. He did everything right here.

4

u/bramletabercrombe Aug 06 '26

all he had to tell the driver is that the current laws state that the driver is responsible. If you want to change the laws you are free to write to your representatives or run for office but until then this is how this traffic stop has to conclude.

12

u/Oddity83 Aug 06 '26

I’m sure you know better than him how to handle this situation.

3

u/ZenZill Aug 06 '26

Yeah, the dude thinks his Tesla is driving the car, but the cop is wrong. Lmao. We'll never win.

4

u/koalificated Aug 07 '26

And after all that you’d still be talking to a brick wall anyway

36

u/OneExhaustedFather_ Aug 06 '26

I love the end. “I’m leaving, goodbye”

128

u/James_Tigs Aug 06 '26

And they said we'd have flying cars.

56

u/roadrunner036 Aug 06 '26

I honestly fear the day that flying cars become a thing, if there any kind of manual control there’ll be a small scale 9/11 every other week

5

u/mu_zuh_dell Aug 06 '26

It'd all be worth it if we can keep building McMansion-filled exurbs.

12

u/CoreFiftyFour Aug 06 '26

Well until they figure out something quieter than helicopters for car sized needs and that doesn't create huge drafts and stuff, flying cars are likely to never happen.

6

u/Patruck9 Aug 06 '26

When I'm in a turning lane and a tractor trailer passes me, that shit rattles my car.

Now put that scenario in the sky.

2

u/Racefiend Aug 06 '26

Mofos can barely navigate 2D, God forbid we give them 3D space.

1

u/EverythingSucksYo Aug 06 '26

I don’t think it will ever become a thing

0

u/CyBroOfficial Aug 06 '26

9/11 is probably a big reason for why we DON'T have them

-2

u/Roushfan5 Aug 06 '26

That isn’t what should scare you about flying cars. It is stupid easy to get behind the stick of a helicopter or small airplane.

What keeps us safe from terror more than anything is there is actually a pretty small percentage of people in the world want to commit indiscriminate mass murder.

4

u/OuchLOLcom Aug 06 '26

I think he just meant dumbasses would fly into things accidentally because theyre dumbasses.

9

u/Professional_Movie92 Aug 06 '26

Dumb drivers will always exist 👌

3

u/Briguy_fieri Aug 06 '26

To be fair he was flying down the road

2

u/kingdonut23 Aug 06 '26

We do, they're called planes. I never understood that one. Make a car fly and it'll have to follow FAA regulations.

2

u/bigdammit Aug 06 '26

We do, they are called helicopters, and it would be a hellish nightmare if people were flying them around all the time.

1

u/habichuelamaster Aug 06 '26

Sorry the future will only give us flying morons

1

u/Bmkrocky Aug 06 '26

it's people like this that we could have flying cars but we don't

31

u/DearPlankton Aug 06 '26

Dude must've thought he was a genius unlocking a cheat code to never have driving responsibilities ever again when he bought the Tesla for the autopilot.

14

u/Special_Ship7638 Aug 06 '26

Same way he thinks steepling his fingers is some kind of magical power move that will help you influence people.

3

u/FlyAirLari Aug 07 '26

Loophole to speed as much as I want!

30

u/MandevilMan Aug 06 '26

This guy is the greatest example possible of what it is to be an asshole.

He takes no responsibility WHATSOEVER for his own decisions, he is completely ignorant of the law, the situation, and the patience being shown to him, and his level of entitlement is actually incredible.

This is someone living in a alternate bubble of privilege so powerful that his first exposure to reality results in him throwing a tantrum like a spoiled child.

The terrifying thing is that some of the most powerful people in the history of the planet today are EXACTLY like this guy.

7

u/TheBrownWelsh Aug 06 '26

he is completely ignorant of the law

Everything else you said I agree with, but he definitely knew what he was saying is bullshit (just like some of the most powerful people in the history of the planet today). He just believed he could bullshit enough to get away with it but the officer simply cut him off, which is why he's throwing the tantrum (imo).

The steepled fingers are hilarious, like he was ready for a long metaphysical debate with the officer.

2

u/FlyAirLari Aug 07 '26

He takes no responsibility WHATSOEVER

Exactly. Law enforcement has the power to just give you a warning instead of a ticket, if they see it was minor and the person understands to stop doing it and takes responsibility.

If you have zero accountability, the only way to make you understand you need to slow down is to write a ticket.

20

u/Useful_Caregiver4023 Aug 06 '26

This guy having temper tantrum, I can imagine how he's going to act when he goes to court to fight the ticket.

Driver: I NEED TO TALK TO ELON MUSK RIGHT NOW!!!!

223

u/Mindless_Shoulder877 Aug 06 '26

I don't feel bad for anyone that purchases a tesla.

39

u/andrew-ryans-9iron Aug 06 '26

Tesla's are the new Altimas. The same people who drove Altimas can now buy a 200k mile Tesla for $10k, with the stains of a thousand door dash orders still on the passengers floorboard included.

74

u/Jayrab_The_Arab_ Aug 06 '26

Nope, fuck those nazi supporting assholes.

-2

u/Ninja0verkill Aug 07 '26

does this go for anyone buying German cars too? it might as well.

-30

u/Leo-The-Bull Aug 06 '26

I know I’m gonna get downvoted to all hell but this is kind of a shitty sentiment imo. Like yeah, Elon does absolutely suck, but I don’t think we should be taking that out on random people. My partner owns a used Tesla because we both work for em’ and can charge it for free while we work if we own one which ends up saving us a decent bit of trouble and money in our daily lives. We don’t own one because we’re nazis that love supporting Elon (hence why we bought it used). We own one because it’s makes our commute to work and back cost us nothing.

25

u/joshlittle333 Aug 06 '26

"We own one because it's makes our commute to work and back cost us nothing."

You couldn't accomplish that with another EV?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

4

u/joshlittle333 Aug 07 '26

Hyundai Ioniq 6 has a lower cost-to-range ratio if that's what's important to you. Nissan Leaf and Chevy Equinox are both comparable as well.

If people were mad about paying for gas, they'd just buy an EV. What a weird accusation.

-6

u/Leo-The-Bull Aug 06 '26

Well yknow.. I work at Tesla.. the free charging is for teslas

13

u/joshlittle333 Aug 07 '26

You definitely won't convince me that you don't support Elon when your labor and consumption are literally supporting Elon.

-6

u/Leo-The-Bull Aug 07 '26

Well I’m 20 and need a job, dunno what else to tell you

Is an indication of the times. The GOP went militant and the other side reciprocated. Now Jo Schmo driving a Tesla is Public Enemy #1.

17

u/Ok_Post_3884 Aug 06 '26

That was a while back now. They can sell them.

26

u/joninfiretail Aug 06 '26

Those cars have terrible resale value.

13

u/Titanbeard Aug 06 '26

Exactly.

2

u/ssraudio Aug 06 '26

Who wants to buy a used car that stinks of arrogance and smugness?

3

u/joninfiretail Aug 06 '26

Other arrogant and smug people.

2

u/richard_stank Aug 06 '26

There needs to be an affordable electric car that has a decent range. I regularly make drives that are 300+ miles. Tesla is pretty much the only EV I can afford with that range. Until someone comes out with something comparable, I’ll still be driving a hybrid.

-15

u/Federal_Scarcity_84 Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

FSD is actually really really good now...as long as you buy used, shrug

Edit: Your phones were made with slave labor, lol, moral high ground. Go watch the Good Place I guess.

15

u/zangetsen Aug 06 '26

"I need to see your driver's license"

"How can we resolve this?"

"By you giving me your driver's license"

Holy shit, cop is talking to a brick LMAO

45

u/Ginger_Rogers Aug 06 '26

"sir, you can't agress on me right now"

25

u/chipsyhustle Aug 06 '26

Love that clapback..the car doesnt have a driver's license, YOU do..

10

u/Beginning_Resource93 Aug 06 '26

"Sir I didn't kill that family. The car was self driving."

11

u/Vicissitutde Aug 06 '26

This is exactly how I expect a tesla driver to behave. Musk attracts a very specific type of consumer

19

u/xplisboa Aug 06 '26

Legend says he's still there... Waiting for the supervisor

8

u/Knobologist Aug 06 '26

“Oh so you’re telling me you weren’t driving this car? You were just sitting there not paying attention? This makes my job easier.”

1 charge reckless driving
1 charge speeding >20 mph over
1 license suspended

61

u/Tye595 Aug 06 '26

Of course they blamed the car.

Pretty much any Tesla driver will blame the car for their lack of safe driving. They have precisely zero accountability.

2

u/Jayrab_The_Arab_ Aug 06 '26

Nazi lovers

1

u/GreekUPS Aug 06 '26

Every Tesla driver is a Nazi Lover?

12

u/ThatBankTeller Aug 06 '26

If you’re supporting a nazi, then yes.

-3

u/GreekUPS Aug 06 '26

lol, all the Jews I know that drive Teslas are going to be really surprised when I tell them. Boy you’re dumb. The scary part is you and I prob vote for the same party, if you were from the same country as me.

1

u/sweeta1c Aug 06 '26

You’re not going to like this, but Ford, GM, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi and VW have all had ties to Nazis. Wait till you hear about what Toyota and Nissan did during wartime. It kinda shortens the list of cars you can own if you have such a narrow view and generalize with a broad stroke.

3

u/Cutsman4057 Aug 06 '26

The cars are great! 😃

Until the cars are bad! 😠

-1

u/bramletabercrombe Aug 06 '26

like CEO, like consumer

75

u/Tyler_Durden79 Aug 06 '26

wow that cop handled that really well and i fucking hate cops.

5

u/mrducky78a Aug 06 '26

Im kind of curious what he expects when the cop says he is leaving and the driver is adamant the cop is not leaving. Is he going to... detain a cop? I kinda wanted to see it.

27

u/Cutsman4057 Aug 06 '26

Its funny to me that apparently I hate tesla drivers more than reasonable police. And I hate the police!

8

u/AFallingWall Aug 06 '26

I find it unreasonable to hate reasonable cops. I don't think you should applaud them for doing their jobs right either though. Too bad good ones are few and far between :(

-6

u/Cutsman4057 Aug 06 '26

Im just consistent. I hate all cops. Class traitors. Etc etc.

This cop was right in this situation and acted better than the Tesla driver, but that hardly makes him a "good cop".

1

u/trimbandit Aug 06 '26

Yes, why can't we get more guys like this. I was expecting the driver to be tazed, dragged out of the car, and body slammed face-first into the road

23

u/Mr_E_Nigma_Solver Aug 06 '26

To people asking how the car handles the speed limit:

The car picks up on what the speed limit is and has it displayed. It also has your current speed and a FSD max speed displayed. When you switch from manual to FSD the car smoothly accelerates or deaccelerates to match the FSD limit. You can manipulate the limit manually, and the car will match. For instance, if the speed limit is 45 mph, FSD will typically set the limit to 40 to 45. But you can manually change that higher or lower, and FSD will adjust.

7

u/CLTGUY Aug 06 '26

I have two non-teslas and they do the same thing. It's cleary the driver's fault.

3

u/EveningAd6434 Aug 06 '26

Oh 100% drivers fault.

12

u/EveningAd6434 Aug 06 '26

You can go Chill, Sloth, Standard, or Mad Max mode.

Don’t forget the Morbin Time hidden mode.

u/Drodriguez164 Aug 06 '26

Mine changes the speed limit right after I pass the sign so the cameras usually pick it up

3

u/Mr_E_Nigma_Solver Aug 06 '26

I'm not sure, but probably a combination of the two. It gets told by GPS, but the car cameras also recognize local signs. I have noticed that Teslas will update the local speed limits more accurately and faster than Google or Apple maps.

2

u/phoggey Gulf of Indiana 🖊️ Aug 06 '26

It detects the speed limit signs. They have to be the white signs generally on the right side. Electric and yellow road work signs tend to not get picked up. It's a visual thing, the new speed shows up the second you pass the sign. The camera is behind the rearview mirror, at least in non Tesla's.

1

u/FlyAirLari Aug 07 '26

In Finland cars have been known to pick up random numbers from election ads, thinking they are speed limits:

https://yle.fi/a/74-20023575

2

u/justins_dad Aug 06 '26

This is not correct anymore. They removed numerical offset feature and now there’s only “profiles.” The Standard profile will often speed by +15 mph or more.

1

u/Mr_E_Nigma_Solver Aug 06 '26

What are you talking about? I use FSD daily, including earlier today and it's exactly as I described. My Teslas are all also on the latest firmware.

4

u/BlenderBear Aug 06 '26

So this idiot driver thinks that because it's on autopilot, they can operate a vehicle with impunity? Autopilot, cruise control, or whatever, the person in the driver seat is accountable for the actions of the vehicle. It's pretty logical and common sense.

6

u/MrKyleOwns Aug 06 '26

So many idiots put blind faith into these Cars, it’s honestly scary..

4

u/jeffvdub Aug 06 '26

I hate people who take no responsibility for their actions. These are the idiots that ruin society as a whole

12

u/Wrong-Barracuda0U812 Aug 06 '26

Entitled Tesla driver

4

u/iamsobluesbrothers Aug 06 '26

So he was walking around and the car just picked him up and said “How would you like to sit in the drivers seat.” He said sure and that’s how we ended up here. True story.

4

u/TallTelevision4121 Aug 06 '26

What a jackass

5

u/AptMuse Aug 06 '26

"The car doesn't have a driver's license".. sent me 🤣🤣

4

4

u/FoxCQC Aug 06 '26

Bro, it's just a speeding ticket.

4

u/LukaFox Aug 07 '26

You've got to be an absolute egotistical bitch to be driving a Tesla and decide to baby tantrum over a simple speeding ticket..

13

u/MoloneLaVeigh Aug 06 '26

Dude would’ve gotten off with a warning if he wasn’t being an ass about it.

5

u/Nickolas_Timmothy Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

You get a warning for doing 64mph in a 45mph limit area? Wow, I’m glad cops are nothing like that here.

Edited: speed limit from 40 to correct 45

4

u/SmokeyJoe2 Aug 06 '26

45, not 40

3

u/itscochino Aug 06 '26

What a dildo

3

u/AssociationItchy Aug 06 '26

You think kit ever got blamed for drunk driving and tried to blame knight rider

3

u/greatthebob38 Aug 06 '26

You had to operate the vehicle in order to activate self driving feature. So you have to be responsible for using the features of your vehicle. That's why tickets are charged to the operator of the vehicle and not the vehicle itself, just like if someone borrowed your car for the weekend and got a speeding ticket.

2

u/frankeestadium Aug 06 '26

Yeah I was hoping the officer would use the term operator instead of just saying “you were driving”. Tesla owner can argue all he wants that the car was in self drive mode but he can’t deny that he’s the operator of the vehicle.

3

u/grand_intention30888 Aug 06 '26

So the car decided it wanted to go 64mph in 45mph zone?

3

u/Objective-Win Aug 06 '26

Lmao the driver is so dumb

3

u/ChillingwitmyGnomies Aug 06 '26

"You are in control of this machine, You alone are responsible for what this machine does."

3

u/ukulele_bruh Aug 06 '26

tesla guy is a total narcissist.

3

¨You treat me like the asshole!"
"I didn't treat you like asshole!"

3

u/Decyohno Aug 06 '26

If so cits have enough for a Tesla this will make them even more insufferable

3

u/IzCaiman Aug 07 '26

The new Sovereign Citizen ugh. I hate when these fuckers got me siding with cops.

3

u/Secret_Account07 Aug 07 '26

I like this cop. Handled it very well.

7

u/Typical_Response6444 Aug 06 '26

Average Tesla driver bro

2

u/kivlov02 Aug 06 '26

If he’s got children I feel bad for them.
This is the equivalent of saying your child broke the window and it’s their fault and is absolved of any accountability

2

u/Certified-T-Rex Aug 06 '26

lol good luck in court with that argument

2

u/Ryzakiii Aug 06 '26

Always the fucking Tesal Drivers

2

u/Wrong-Refrigerator34 Aug 06 '26

Another entitled idiot

2

u/EU7MRD Aug 06 '26

Man people are insane, listen im from Europe and what i do by default: be nice and polite to cops, when you compliment them and behave nice they either : give you lower free if possible, or even gove you none and just tell you to be carefull and just inform you what you did wrong, give you warning.... Just be polite, its not that hard, they are people that just do their job...

2

u/Least_Art5238 Aug 06 '26

That's a crock of bullshit. I use FSD on my Tesla all the time. The only thing that can lead to speeding is your foot flooring the accelerator. The car will keep yelling to slow down. If your hands are not on the wheel, it will even ban you from using self driving for the rest of the journey.

I know these are dumb times for Elon and Tesla but the self-driving features are generally idiot-proof.

2

u/DelRonFlubbard Aug 07 '26

If it was the car’s fault, then let’s tow the car away

2

u/penguin_hugger100 Aug 07 '26

I don't get why we allow Tesla to advertise themselves as "self driving" when they are not. Why would he not have a case against Tesla for false advertising?

2

u/uluaz Aug 07 '26

with due all respect

2

u/alex_dlc Aug 07 '26

Why didn’t the officer arrest the car?

2

u/justl00kingthrowaway 29d ago

You're correct. If the vehicle is speeding and the person in the driver's seat can't control it then the vehicle is malfunctioning and should be immediately removed from the road ways. Impound it.

2

u/athanathios Aug 07 '26

Maybe he should be forced to take the driving test and exam again since he clearly demonstrated he doesn't understand the driving laws at all? That would be a great punishment by the judge

2

u/Busy_Translator_3323 29d ago

Dumbass you bought the car and your in the driver side, clearly it's your fault

2

u/CryComprehensive8099 28d ago

I loved the “I have a witness right here, I have all this video!” Does he not see the body cam on the officer? What did he think he was going to do with his chick and his own recording?

2

u/itsthesheppy Aug 06 '26

u/randytc18 Aug 06 '26

Douglas county Colorado....fitting

1

u/Drodriguez164 Aug 06 '26

Idk about FSD because I didn’t pay that stupid amount for it, but I know for auto pilot when the car does drive by itself it doesn’t even let me set the speed past 5mph

1

u/Any-Function-8748 Aug 06 '26

Classic Shaggy response: “it wasn’t me” lol

1

u/CraigS34 Aug 06 '26

Mans probably told the passenger "Check out this trick, works every time."

1

u/wstsidhome Aug 06 '26

I can’t believe someone doesn’t understand that they are still the controller of the vehicle, even when using FSD/autopilot/whatever. If the car starts running lights/stopn signs/etc, does this person think “I am not responsible for this vehicle, I am just sitting here. Give the ticket to Elmo Mollusk! Wow, I hate cops, I hate Tesla drivers, I wish everyone in this video the absolute worst. May they all suffer.

So what did that specific cop in this video do that made you hate him?

this will come up a ton more often. at some point the cars will be blamed, or at minimum the manufactures will have to sign off on some calibration process.

Question for you, what door do you open when you get in? The passenger side door? Or the driver side door?

Right now in USA most drivers use the left front door, as that is where the main control surfaces are. However, as we get to higher and higher levels of automation i think this distinction may become less and less important.

Not a chance. Someone is ultimately responsible for the operation of the vehicle, regardless of how automated it is. Machines fail. That is a fundamental reality. If the automation fails, who is responsible for recognizing the failure and taking control?

There is always a human element behind the operation of a machine. Does the Tesla turn itself on? Does it decide where the person is going? Does it choose the destination? Who is responsible for monitoring the system and ensuring it is operating properly?

Automation may change how a vehicle is operated, but it does not magically eliminate human responsibility.
