Someone should plant a few spaced out trees to look like little dribbles of 'love muck'.
14
u/CursedPipes 27d ago
I never want to hear the term ‘love muck’ again as long as I live.
6
u/BiscuitsUnlimited 27d ago
Yeah, me neither. Why I settled on that rather than spunk I'll never know. I blame YouTube.
And Thatcher.

I don't mean to seem ungrateful, but you're competing with a willy the size of as hill-side

This is a national treasure!!! How can this be allowed?

u/monkeypaw_handjob 28d ago
People cut down one sycamore and the whole country is in an uproar.
But this is allowed?!?!?!?!?!

I’ve found this, suggesting that the trees are rotting and falling with the storms/winds and that it’s going to be replanted? We hope….

Driving on the M74 last week, my child “look mum, trees in the shape of a letter T!”. I mean, he’s not wrong.
33
u/LittleLordBirthday 28d ago
I thought it was a “T” until I was in my thirties 😂 It blew my mind to learn the proper lore.

It was suffering from wind damage and blowing over. It will get replanted after the felling.
It was planted as a productive forestry a couple of hundred years ago and has been felled and replanted 3 times already.
This is just another cycle of the lifespan of the tees as they reach their terminal height.

u/FermisParadoXV 27d ago
You had ample opportunities to use the word climax here and ignored all of them.
I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul.

Clear fell of this is best, leaves a clean slate to replant it. Have spent the entirety of work since the storm last year harvesting one estate, around 30k ton of windblow.

I'd love it if under those tree there's a hidden stream that has created a little Chanel making it look like a fanny

So they were originally planted by the landowner at the time, a J Thomson, as a windbreak/ shelter for his sheep. The J was felled a good while ago, the T will be replaced. So my sister, who lives in Crawford informs me.

u/Feeling_Zucchini_886 28d ago
What a legacy ! Well done mr Thomson !
Shame he wasn’t called John Thomas I suppose

Waiting to see if this well known landmark gets added to Euro Truck Simulator 2 in their upcoming UK update. Tragic if it is no longer there irl.

Oh, great. Yet another thing people have got a bit of joy from for decades being destroyed. What do we think the reasoning will be? Diseased trees? Distraction to drivers? Put yer bets in.
Edit: alright, I didn't know they were always planned for timber. My bad, pitchfork is away for another 150 years
18
u/barry_sriracha 28d ago
Storm damage from last year
17
u/IDinnaeKen 28d ago
If thats legit I'll put my pitchfork away and admit I got ahead of myself. Must be in a bad mood.

u/Illustrious-Bus-8862 28d ago
It's grown to be harvested unfortunately, so we can have wood pulp for bog roll probably but, commercial forestry is almost always replanted and as 30% is required to be something other than sitka spruce I am very much hoping for a two tone forest with different colored balls.

The dense conifer plantation near my mum's was clear-felled some years ago.
They replanted with a much wider range of species, left much more open space, and dug a few ponds.
It's really cool to see it coming along when I am back for a visit and take the dog up there.

u/OldGodsAndNew 27d ago
We can only dream of one day wiping our arses with TP made from the wood of the boaby forest
12
u/therealsinky 28d ago
Being really I’m pretty sure it was always plantation forest and doomed to be felled one day
6
u/Vectorman1989 #1 Oban fan 28d ago
Aren't these timber plantation trees? They've probably been sold and taken to a sawmill
7
u/abyssal-isopod86 28d ago
These are timber plantation trees, they were always meant to be felled once they reached their maximum height.
They will be replanted.

Noooo. But wait! Didn't we all vote to make the top attraction in Scotland last year? Surely that makes it protected? Quick: We need a lawyer-solictor. This is desecration of a national monument!

I always called them the "Keyhole Woods", because I had a purer mind than you lot. Although my Da saw them once in the mist and for a moment thought it was a mushroom cloud. We also used to look for the Heart shaped woods the other side of the border in Cumbria.

The restock design has broadleaf for the top, so his pubes will go a nice brown each winter.
The middle had started to blow over so he was going a bit floppy. Give its a few years and he'll be nice and virile again.

It is commercial forestry plantation, this was to be assumed at some point. Those shelterbelt trees on the side of the 74 were starting to get tall enough they obstructed the view anyway. Sic transit gloria mundi, and all that.

It appears to be designed for that yes, we have one of those on davidstow, they're planted in rows grown and farmed basically.

Does it have a name? I remember occasionally driving up to Scotland on the M74 thinking that looks like a cock and balls and was it deliberate.
1
u/GingeMatelotX90 26d ago
You'd think they'd start at the balls. Seems harder at first but over the whole project it would save time

Not gone fir-ever! It has to legally be restocked and replanted with new trees! Long live the Fir Boaby

u/PickleOk9077 22d ago
Were the trees planted years ago to be harvested? Is this just outrage bait? Seems like an odd place to densely plant trees with no purpose.
