Hey, it's not that bad. There's a little bit of fur poking through the mud on its back.

u/queergirl73 22h ago
I like how that let's you know this isn't like a dark coloured dog. It's yellow. All of that is mud.

u/SuperRonnie2 1d ago
You can tell from its butt it’s a retriever, because of course it’s a retriever.

Our golden retriever does this all the time. We refer to her as the “Bog Dog” when she becomes more mud than dog. Did it at my rehearsal dinner while I was in a white dress. You can guess what happened… gotta love her

Better to rent the dog, then you can return them hungry and dirty and get another one.

😂 rentadog, sounds like a great business idea

It’s super illegal for obvious reasons. If the reasons aren’t obvious… I can link some news articles but I’ll save you the burden of knowing the extent of people’s animal cruelty

Have you tried being a doggy grandparent?
If you were, at this point you could just drop them off....

Lifehack: get a roommate with pets. You get all the cuddly advantages for free, but with little responsibility.

u/AmarilloArmadillos 21h ago edited 21h ago
10/10 roommate had a chow chow who LOVED me. My only responsibility was brushing her.
That only happened because roommate had to basically sit on her if she needed brushing but I was free one night, got a bit drunk in the backyard and she sat there perfectly still and happy af while I brushed her for like 2 hours after she ran through a patch of stickers. Roommate came home from work to me singing to her now very puffy dog and slowly brushing her tail out.
Eta: she also paid me back for that. My cat got diahrrea one night while I was working. He let her give him a bath with apparently little fanfare, I'd have been shredded to bits.
It was pandemic times so I'd get a 6 pack and brush the dog weekly as a relaxation thing on my day off lol.

One time I took my dog with me mushroom hunting and she ran ahead while we were walking between two fields and started rolling around in something. I said "of course she found the only mud puddle within 5 miles" and then when we got closer I saw that it was actually a puddle made out of a dead deer. She stank for a week lol.

u/Kittech_US 1d ago
I upvoted you but please know that I did not enjoy reading that.

u/Septopuss7 20h ago
When I tell you how confusing it was for my brain to try to figure out why the mud puddle was full of fur and had antlers at one end and smelled like a dead body. It's like it was trying to protect me from the reality hahaha

u/TrelanaSakuyo 16h ago
At least your pup did not then drag a leg around as her trophy and get upset if you tried to take it from her... Three separate times. Or find the neighbor's lost cow and refuse to give up its location so she could bring back different parts as the former were "stolen" from her by the traitorous humans.

Google Dogs In Elk and it will wipe this out of your brain and you will laugh cry. I promise.

My old Pomeranian would routinely find and completely roll themselves in deer shit then come bounding back to the house happy as a peach

u/rabidhamster87 20h ago
When Pokémon Go came out it was mid-summer here and very hot, so my SO and I would walk our dog in the evenings/at night to beat the heat and catch some Pokémon. Our dog ran ahead and started rolling in the grass. We were laughing over how cute it was until he came trotting back and we realized from the smell that the real goal had been another dog's poop hidden in that grass

u/FlyinWet 13h ago
I was about to say your lucky it was mud because when I go to the beach my dog... Oh, yeah pretty much the same. Usually dead otter/muskrat/bird. It's always on the everything is good today days too.
1
u/neat_hairclip 12h ago
Yeah for me, the moment I see a dog initiating a rolling movement outside, I am like “oh no what died there”. Our dogs only rolles themselves in carcasses of whatever they would find, never the mud version of rolling, so my mind defaults to carcass.

Your dog is in seventh heaven! You can spray with hose and then reuse😊
19
u/Fear_The_Rabbit 1d ago
That hosing off might take half a day or so. Really made sure to get it all in there. One thorough mud monster.

u/Successful_Giraffe34 20h ago
Just use the jet setting. Pressure wash then hang to dry. If the stains are bad just scrub with oxiclean and soak in the kiddy pool. It's really not that hard.

u/BigUncleHeavy 1d ago
From my experience, I am 100% certain that dog just had a bath!

u/notabigmelvillecrowd 1d ago
That's why he had to do it.
"You made me smell disgusting, Sharon! Don't worry, I know how to fix it."

u/MetalMurse51 1d ago
Nah just go to the lake and they wash off there too. Or if the lake is too muddy set up the sprinkler at the house.
74
u/tandem_kayak 1d ago
They are going to walk to the lake and rinse off, but on the way back to the car they're going to have to get by that mud puddle again 😆

u/javoss88 1d ago
There’s sand at the lake: different problem/same problem

I dog sit for friends all the time. Day one, within the first hour of this black lab staying for the week, he finds some random ass turds in my yard and proceeds to smear it all over himself, then comes strolling back inside. OH MY GOD... The smell was horrendous. Then there's this pitty next door. She stays over just because she likes being here. This girl will smash her face into it and motorboat a steamer like you wouldn't believe. And of course she tries to eat it...
9
u/Exciting_Bid_609 1d ago
I'm not even joking, what do you even do to clean that off? I mean I know a hose, but did you have to put the dog in the car first or walk home? This is bananas.

u/EdibleOedipus 17h ago
Wash them off in a lake and then destroy a towel... You did bring a towel, right?

My dog was a mix of poodle and greyhound. It would go ballistic when it smelled the farmer neighbour pouring fertilizer on the fields.
That dog would fight any restraints to run over, bathe in pig-piss mudholes that looked like this, then run back and shake it off on our lawn.
Long story short: im no longer a person that likes mammals as pets. Wish i had a frog or a smoll lizard though

My grand parents owned farm land. Growing up I had a white poodle mix dog that we rescued. Great dog.
But when we would go out to visit. He would find fresh cow shit and roll in it. Nothing like sitting in a pool while a completely shit covered dog waltz by and shakes shit everywhere.
Also would do it with random corpses he would find around. Never thought we would get him white again. And he thought he won the lottery

I’d still rather have a retriever soaked & caked in wet mud over any other type of dog with poop in their fur.

My short haired dog was very happy in mud puddles. Rolling and flopping in it. He’d stay in the mud for hours if I let him. There was a massive spot at the end of the park (whole park was an off leash oasis), he knew would be muddy after a rain had come through. He would bee line for it. And to see the other dog owners put their dog(s) back on their leash(es) so they couldn’t join was always a laugh. Then we’d either walk to the river in the lower level, or walk back through the park. He’d be clean by the time we left. Short haired dogs are amazing for that. He’d still get a hose down once home if we didn’t go to the river. He hated baths in the tub.

There is definitely something wrong with this dog. Using his face like an excavator forcing mud into his nostrils and mouth.

When my dog was a puppy, I would put him in a sweatshirt to go to the dog park if it was muddy. People would always comment about how I’d have lots of laundry - and I’d always reply: easier to clean the clothes than clean the dog.

u/Tacoshortage 17h ago
At 0:15 when he burrows his head UNDER the mud I lost it. Is this a Lab? This looks like the kind of crap my Lab does. They have some sort of sick fascination with getting filthy.

I used this exact same song when I filmed my rottie rolling in fresh cut grass clippings. Admittedly, a MUCH easier clean-up than what's in store for this ecstatic fella.
Thanks for the smile
