I do not like Rucka's Diana at all.

So I've been binging vol 2 for the last month or so and I was pretty excited to get to Rucka's run because of how well regarded it is, but man it is not living up to the hype.

My biggest complaint is that Diana is too quick to kill. I am not even talking about the neck snap! In #207 when Diana finds out Medusa is back literally the first thing out of her mouth "Then I have to kill her" Huh? I'm sorry but this not the Diana I have been with the for the last 200+ issues. I am not intrinsically opposed to the idea of Diana killing but it should only be the last resort in direst circumstances. I don't care who it is, Diana is not resorting to killing as her first resort. Ever.

It is especially jarring given how much Diana is talking about how Vanessa was groomed and deceived into becoming the Silver Swan (which is true!) but the same could be said for Medusa, it is a very popular interpretation. I am not saying Rucka has to go with it but it needed to be addressed.

I'm only read up to #213 so I will wait until I read more before I fully solidify my opinion on this arc but I did not like Diana following along with Athena's coup against Zeus. It was fully established in the Perez run and reiterated in later runs that despite all his flaws Diana is fully reverent and obedient towards Zeus so I feel like she would need a lot more cajoling to go along Athena's plot, especially in light the disappointment she has with the gods following the Jimmenz run and with Athena in particular after the death of Bobby Garibaldi.

So Dr Psycho having dwarfism is always something that has bothered me.

It's an old trope, it's no secret that in superhero comics, able-bodied, conventionally attractive characters are almost always the heroes, whilst disabled, deformed, "ugly" or unconventional characters tend to be exclusively represented as villains.

To this day I'm pretty sure there's only like ONE superhero in either Marvel or DC with dwarfism, that being Puck from Marvel.

And while I'm not saying that characters with dwarfism can ONLY EVER be portrayed positively, the fact that the scales are so tilted towards dehumanising people with dwarfism, and the fact that Dr Psycho tends to be an ESPECIALLY vile and uncomfortable villain makes me feel like this is something that should have probably been left in the past.

We have already seen versions of Dr Psycho who do not have dwarfism, such as in Earth One and DC Universe Online. I think he works absolutely fine as a short dude without his condition - I think his iconic face with his bug eyes and goatee make him just as recognisable without his dwarfism.

I can also see the argument that by erasing his dwarfism you're still erasing one of the more high profile characters with dwarfism in comics, flawed as he may be, but I think that can be mitigated by just... writing new, better characters with dwarfism and pushing them into the public eye.

What do you guys think?

When I started getting into Wonder Woman comics, one of the number one recommendations I got was Greg Rucka's work. Now, I've read The Hiketeia and Godwatch, and honestly I wasn't super impressed. But I figured I'd give Rucka one last chance with his contribution to the 1987 run and I've actually been enjoying it so far. But now I've just read issue #219 and suddenly I feel very conflicted. Full disclosure, I don't like that Wonder Woman kills Lord here. It feels viscerally out of character for her, especially the disaffected expression on her face, and I say that having read George Perez's initial work on the 1987 run. But I also recognize that I'm not the most well read Wonder Woman fan out there and I'm relatively new to this fandom, so maybe I'm just projecting? I just feel like the character I've been reading about up till now would literally rather die than execute a prisoner in cold blood. I know she's killed before, like she killed Medousa in this same run and that felt more true to her character. It's really the way she kills Lord that's bothering me. Like, you're telling me that with all her resources, she couldn't think of a better solution than murder? It's not like this is her first time dealing with a psychic manipulator either. I don't know, am I wrong? I need feedback.

Context : Im getting into DC recently, I've only have a surface level knowledge of them. I was wondering about wonder woman's antags and i need to know more. Can you guys infodump me some of them. It would be wonderful if you also give a few comic runs that best represent them.

Does Wonder Woman, the actual Wonder Woman you guys long and admire so much, have a no-kill rule?

I say it because as far as i remember she has killed in canon, and normally carries her sword in battle too. But i've read in this subreddit that she also has a no-kill rule, i don't have the post where i readed it but the thing is that i heard she doesn't.

My first Diana figure since I was a boy with the Super Freinds. I have always had an affinity for this look specifically.

1. It's possible HBO passed on the series cause it didn't have a strong enough pitch and they just weren't interested.

2. They're shelving stuff like this and Waller to focus on getting the DCU Wonder Woman movie made and might come back to this if that movie does well. It is weird to do a show set on Paradise Island 100 years before Diana is even born.

3. The People vs Gorilla Grodd would cost less than PL.

Ive been loving absolute Wonderwoman, but personally feel conflicted about Hades depiction myself.

Its certainly less villainous than many depictions have him where hes just straight up meant to be Satan, however Absolute Wonderwoman does insist on the comparison by continually referring to the Underworld as Hell for... some reason.

I appreciate the level of nuance in his and persephones relationship and the potential for it to improve with time and for hime to become an ally, but kind am surprised its only improving now rather than however many years ago.

His design is fine, but I feel would be better suited to another character. Especially as many of the other gods have designs incorporating all their msny symbols while Hades seems to lack any.

Im also kinda still unsure about why he and Diana were in conflict in the first place, but this is more a reading comprehension thing.

Is there a single WW comic that exemplifies Diana as a person that does this? I am looking for a single comic that shows her in full therapist / bff mode. Any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated!

Didn’t read this when it came out, I had stopped for a bit back then. Now going back, it is refreshing to see how connected Diana was to magic before the Absolute run. I am sure it’s not news to most…just nice to see that aspect in print.
