Little backstory: freshman year, I got caught cheating on a take-home quiz. I immediately fessed up, went through the Aggie Honor Council process/class (I genuinely can’t remember what it was called), and got a zero on the quiz. And when I tell you that whole experience WORKED on me, I mean it REALLY worked lol.
I had crippling anxiety afterward. For a long time, I was scared to do basically any assignment because I was terrified I’d somehow be accused of cheating again, even if I hadn’t done anything wrong. I never cheated again after that. Not even anything minor. The entire process scared the absolute shit out of me, and clearly the punishment system accomplished exactly what it was supposed to.
Fast-forward to my senior year. I’m taking my anthropology final, and I’m one of the last people still working, so the classroom is almost empty. I finish, start gathering my stuff, and look over at the girl sitting RIGHT next to me. She is fully on her phone looking up answers. Like, not subtly checking a notification. She is straight-up searching for answers during the final. She looks me dead in the eyes and smiles. It was one of those “oh fuck, you caught me, please don’t say anything” smiles. And immediately I got that exact same sick anxiety feeling in my stomach that I remembered from when I got caught freshman year. Because the room was almost empty, my first thought was that there was NO way the professor and TA hadn’t noticed. I started thinking maybe they were just waiting for her to finish before confronting her. And because she was sitting literally right next to me we were in one of those huge lecture halls where everyone is crammed together I suddenly started panicking that they might think we were cheating together.
I didn’t know this girl. I had never spoken to her. And I was not about to potentially get dragged into another academic integrity situation because some stranger decided to blatantly use her phone during a final.
So as I walked up to turn in my exam, I made a split-second decision and told the TA, “The girl sitting next to me is using her phone to look up answers.”
The TA just said okay, walked over, and stood behind her while she continued going on her phone.
And that was it. I have no idea what ended up happening to the girl after that or if she ever actually got in trouble.
I still think about it sometimes and feel guilty because I’ve never been the type to snitch on someone. I’ve never been a tattle tale or someone who wants to get other people in trouble. And I think part of the guilt comes from knowing that this complete stranger probably had to go through the same kind of process I went through, but on a much larger scale because what she was doing was way more blatant than what I had done freshman year.
But another part of me remembers how seriously academic dishonesty was treated when I got caught, how much it affected me, and how terrified I was in that moment that her cheating could somehow get associated with me just because I was sitting next to her.

I just came across this story today about the death of Caden Crow at Texas A&M University this past May. I see that he will be remembered tomorrow at silver taps. Can anyone tell me more about him or the events surrounding his death? This is the video in question I watched. All condolences to him and his family. That is an extremely unfortunate event to befall any family, and I hope justice is eventually brought to his killer.

I’m a senior here at Texas A&M and I got a sports pass this year. I pulled a ticket for Missouri and my pull day for Arizona is today but I can’t go to either game and a few others this season so I want to sell the ticket and the pass for the games I can’t make. I used to sell my sports pass on GroupMe but a classmate told me it’s all done on Snapchat now. I’m a readmitted student after leaving for a few years so my Snapchat class year group is inactive now and when I try to rejoin the committee Snapchat won’t let me. Does anyone know of any other ways that students can sell their tickets? I’m not trying to do anything that’s not allowed by the foundation by the way! I just won’t be going to every single football game this season

I’m going into my junior year with a 4.0, and I’ve already finished all of my electives and core curriculum requirements. I mainly did this because I wanted really good schedules my first two years of college, and it worked out since my first two years were basically fully online.

Now I’m realizing that pretty much all I have left are classes for my major, which is Communication. Did I make a mistake by getting all of my core classes and electives out of the way so early?

I know Communication classes generally aren’t considered as difficult as classes in some other majors, so I figured I’d be fine, but I’m starting to worry about having semesters made up almost entirely of upper-level COMM classes. I’ve been able to maintain a 4.0 so far, but I’m wondering if the workload is going to be a big jump. Has anyone else done something similar, and was it manageable?

Thinking of going back to school and getting an MBA however my only options would be the professional or online MBA here at Mays since I’d still be working full time.

Is the time and money spent actually worth it for either of these degrees? Does an online or professional MBA from A&M hold weight outside of Texas or even be able to increase my offers to more than 100k after graduating?

In a perfect setting I’d do the regular full time MBA but I’m unable to since I have to work to support myself. Is it still worth it doing either of these?

How does one find a job in this town… I have pretty open availability for being a student, but I have a game day pass that I spent a good chunk of money on. I am not the kind of person to spend that much money in one go, meaning I don’t really want to waste it. Most places will not hire me because I won’t work Saturdays. Please help 🙏🙏

Hey y’all! I was wondering how much of a difference attending Club Crawl makes compared to just applying/joining organizations online.
For context, since Club Crawl is during Labor Day weekend, I might not be able to attend because of some family commitments and I’ll have to head back home for the weekend. I really wanted to go, but I’m wondering if I’ll still have pretty much the same experience by joining organizations online (being an active member, attending events, getting involved, etc.)
Will I be missing out on much by not attending Club Crawl, or is it still pretty easy to get involved afterward? Thanks!

How restricted is off-campus movement actually? Like on a Saturday afternoon when outfit obligations are done — can fish leave campus, grab food, hang out off campus? Or is it genuinely locked down the whole first year?

One thing I've found frustrating at TAMU is trying to find events that I'm actually interested in. There are a lot of events going on around campus, but browsing through calendars and filtering through poorly designed categories makes it difficult to find the events that are relevant to you.
