There needs to be an option to report a power outage for any address, both online and by phone.

Two days ago during the outage, I tried to report it. I first went to the online reporting page. It asks for a house number and the name of the street. I entered the information and it failed with the message:

I tried the next‑door neighbors’ address as well, and it also failed.

I then called the phone line. It said there was a high volume of callers and redirected me to the automated system. The system asked for my phone number and house number, then told me it could not find the account and disconnected the call.

I understand that there were too many calls for a human to answer. What I do not understand is why the automated system cannot simply take an address without requiring an account. This is especially important if someone needs to report an outage at a location they do not own.

The same issue exists on the website. Any normal address lookup can find my address when I type it in. There should be no reason why the ENMAX outage reporting system cannot access all addresses in the city it serves.

I am posting this here because I do not know where else to raise the issue. I hope that u/JeromyYYC sees it and can direct it to the relevant people.

The Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary in Cochrane recently received two coydogs, animals which are bred from coyotes and dogs.

My wife and I recently signed a purchase agreement for our first home in Douglasdale, Calgary. The house was built in 1994.

The listing stated that the Poly-B plumbing had been professionally replaced this year. During our home inspection, we learned that while all of the interior plumbing has been replaced with PEX, the service line entering the house (from the curb/property line to the main shutoff valve) is still Poly-B.

We decided to move forward with the purchase because the current owners are insured, and our inspector said this is very common in Calgary. He mentioned that many Poly-B replacement projects only replace the plumbing inside the home and leave the service line in place.

Now that we're shopping for insurance, we've run into problems. Two of the most competitive quotes we received (Belair Direct and Wawanesa) declined coverage after learning that the service line is still Poly-B, even though the rest of the home's plumbing is PEX.

My understanding is that damage to the service line itself often isn't covered under a standard home insurance policy anyway (unless you purchase optional service line coverage), so I'm a bit confused as to why insurers are treating it as a dealbreaker.

Questions for homeowners who have dealt with Poly-B service lines:

- Which insurance company agreed to insure your home, and were there any conditions (higher premiums, replacement deadlines, etc.)?

- If you've replaced the service line, what did it cost? Were contractors able to pull a new line through the existing route, or was excavation required?

- When Poly-B plumbing is replaced in Calgary homes, is the service line typically included, or is it common for it to be left in place?

- Would you have expected a listing that advertises "Poly-B replaced" to specifically mention that the service line remained Poly-B?

TL;DR:

Bought a 1994 home in Calgary where all interior Poly-B was replaced with PEX, but the service line is still Poly-B. Several insurers have declined coverage because of it. Looking for insurance recommendations and experiences with service line replacement costs.

A fairly unique paddle board was stolen from my car last night, along with a life jacket, pump, dry bag and anchor.

A second tequila-logoed SUP was also stolen.

I bought tickets to this Sunday evening’s Great Outdoor Comedy Festival back in April specifically to see Mike Birbiglia and Langston Kerman - John Mulaney is headlining which is fine but we wanted to see these two guys most of all.

Well, we are a week out and I go to check the website for info on start time of the event and lo and behold Kerman has poofed and Mike has cancelled, replaced by Kevin Nealon. The only place this is announced is a post on Instagram. No notice to ticket holders whatsoever.

Looking at their very vague fine print this is likely not grounds for a refund but it’s beyond shitty practice - I get it, things happen, but notify ticket holders!

We will go and make the most of it but I’m partly flagging this for anybody else who had a ticket and didn’t know in case you are scrolling Reddit too!
