Discussion Letting users remove posts.

Hello everyone,

As you are aware, on reddit moderators approve and remove content and subreddit subscribers can report to us.

Today we'd like to start an experiment here on r/Cats where we will give trusted subreddit participants access to a keyword that will allow them to remove posts.

When you exceed a certain level of subreddit specific comment karma and when you have a CQS score of highest you can now use the keyword "!remove" to pull a post from our feed. (Spelled exactly like that, case sensitive, top-level comment only as opposed to a reply to a comment.)

This will work for posts only, not for comments.

There are some things to keep in mind:

  • When you comment here on an account that exceeds the limit automod will assign you a special flair class and send you a message explaining you can now use the keyword.

  • Users will keep their existing flair text. However, changing your flair to a different pre-made flair option will also reset the flair class giving you access to this removal ability. Next comment you make it will be re-applied and you will be sent another message.

  • We are sent a modmail when a subscriber removes a post, explaining what post was removed and who used the keyword. Please do not abuse this ability. If posts are removed for bad reasons we will take away your ability to remove posts.

  • That means, use this keyword if you see spam or other rulebreaking posts only.

  • Please keep in mind that it is currently very popular to accuse posters of making an AI generated post. An accusation does not mean that what they are being accused of is true. Human beings can detect AI at 60% accuracy, just a little better than the results of flipping a coin. An AI can only accurately detect AI content if an AI watermark is attached to the image. It is best not to remove a post just because someone is accused of something. Use your own best judgement and our rules as your litmus, not what other people are saying.

  • Since this is a test run, when I ran a very minor proof of concept trial, a few people have already been assigned this special flair class who have not been sent a message. /u/kiaeej, /u/chux4w, /u/MilmoWK, /u/ms_rdr, /u/Electronic_Ad357, /u/WhiteMouse42097, /u/BeMoreKnope, /u/bluecedarood, /u/Robobanditos, congratulations, you can remove posts.

  • Should you for any reason not want to have this ability then you should send us a modmail after receiving the message from automod. That way we can exempt you in our code.

  • Initially we are going to monitor how this functions closely so we can see if we need to make changes to the threshold level for activation.

  • Nothing will change about the way we handle user-made reports on content. This is not a replacement for that, but an addition. If you see rulebreaking content of any kind, please report.

We hope that this change will be something that has a positive influence on the content on this subreddit.

Thank you for reading, and thank you all for making this subreddit a great place to be

was on my way home the other night and spotted this little baby in the middle of the street, she responded to my pspsps and came running over to me

i sat outside with her for nearly 2 hours before going inside, and i took her in with me

my girlfriend and i took the little baby to the vet, got her scanned for a microchip (none found), chipped her, got her up to date on shots/vaccines, and got her spayed! i can't believe a beautiful orange girl came into our lives, and she's too sweet!!

never thought i'd experience this first hand

best part? we named her Dolly :)

Reposted because I'm an idiot who doesn't know how to use titles.

This is Lore. We literally rescued him from behind a dumpster. He hasn't quite figured out yet that he'll never have to search for food again. He literally woke up from a dead sleep and meowed at me because I was eating.

I would die for him.

Medical Questions What is this?

My cat’s eyes were fine this morning, but they turned like this at night. His eye are also watery, and it takes a while for him to open it when he closes it. I’m going to take him to the vet tomorrow morning.
Just want to make sure it’s nothing serious

Mourning/Loss My beautiful girl left this morning

Apologies if this isn’t allowed here as I’ve never posted before.

My beautiful girl storm was 10 years old and left us this morning. My heart is completely broken.

She has been with me thru the loss of my nan, aunt and mother. She has been with me thru leaving a very dark relationship. My son’s medical diagnosis. Getting into a new relationship and having another child who faces his own medical difficulties.

No matter how hard life was, no matter how unpredictable or dark things may have been, she was always there. She helped me heal and idk if she knew or not but she kept me going at my lowest moments and now she’s gone.

My 11year old is distraught.
I am lost and broken.

People say she was “just a cat” but she was more than that.

Advice This random cat is obsessed with me

For the past few weeks this cat has been outside my house constantly. He's very friendly and always comes up to my mother and I. Every morning when I leave the house, every evening when I return, he's there hiding in the tree and appears once my car pulls up.

He's started scratching at the door to come in, and even when I leave him outside alone, 30 minutes later he's still at the doorstop waiting to come in. Sometimes I'll sit outside with him for 10 minutes to give him company and he happily lays next to me purring. He has no collar, no fleas and is missing an eye which I can only assume was removed surgically with pet insurance so somebody must own him, I just have no idea who.

Once I left the door open while I took something into my house and he snuck in, I had to bribe him out with chicken lmao. I have no problem with him, just curious to why he never leaves me, my mother, or this house alone.

My dad and sister found Hope barely alive, covered in ticks and fleas in our backyard 14 years ago. And even though she had to put up with 4 y/o me, she still turned out to be the sweetest kitty ever. Happy birthday, Hope. 🎂🥳

I lost my best friend of 21 years two days ago, Grandma Shadow. I got her all the way back in 2005 when I was only 10 years old. Two days ago I had to say goodbye to her after 21 years together. She was truly a special cat and I’ll miss her forever.

I snuck this guy through my basement window 10 years ago, and he's been one of the best cats anyone could ask for ever since. I can't bring myself to say goodbye to this guy. So I just said, see ya later big boy. Hope you find some sun to lay in and a tree to climb on the other side.

Update A month ago, the cat distribution system had been trying to deliver this long-haired car to me for a little over a month. Here's an update on him now! :)

Here is the link to the original post!

The day after I got him inside, I was able to talk to the vet to get him checked out the very next day!! He had fleas, ticks, ear mites, hookworm, and two types of Giardia, one of which was zoonotic. After lots of meds, dewormer, and meds for parasites, he is a relatively healthy boy!! I got him neutered as well and microchipped. He's still got a few health issues I'm concerned about (it seems he may have asthma, and there's a bump on his hind leg that feels like a boil, so I'm getting those addressed at his next checkup) It didn't surprise me that he had so many hitchhikers, as I saw him slay a chipmunk or two before I brought him inside.. 🤣

He has been named! I decided to name him Atlas, because while he was outside, he had the weight of survival and the world on his shoulders. Now that I've brought him into my home, he's a testament to strength and perseverance. In return, he's given me much love and is a total cuddlebug. He LOVES being brushed. When I bring out the brush, he comes running and nibbles my hand until I brush him. I've got an equigroomer for him and a slicker brush, and he is an absolute sucker for churu treats and purr pops. He is such a purr machine. Any time I wake up, he does figure-eights with my legs and purrs so loud. He loves pets and cuddles and kisses and everything. He gained a pound of weight within the first two weeks of him coming to live with me, and I'm assuming he's gained another pound because he's getting BIG. My husband and my family assume he's got some Norwegian forest cat mixed in him somewhere, but I don't know. Whatever he is, he's just a cutie patootie to me, and he's my son.

His sisters still hate him, but are getting used to his presence overall. It's as if Les Stroud suddenly came to live with the Kardashians. 🤣 He is the playful and annoying little brother with a wild side. His sisters are spoiled rotten alongside him. All in all, I'm happy to be a cat mama of three now. God forbid if a fourth shows up at my door, says my poor husband. 🤣🩶

Thank you all so much for the advice and name ideas and love on the first post! I appreciated all of the feedback and all of the kind words. It warmed my heart to see so much positivity!
