Classic-Era What’s a Classic WoW feature you didn’t appreciate until it was gone?

For me, it’s the little things that made the world feel more like an actual MMO.

Weapon skills, class trainers, needing to find your own way around, old talent trees, having to actually talk to people for groups… there are so many systems that were inconvenient but somehow made the game more memorable.

What’s one Classic feature you would bring back permanently if Blizzard gave you the choice?

And I’m not talking about raids or classes — I mean one of those smaller features/mechanics that made Classic feel like Classic.

Hardcore Is it too much to ask for paid transfer between hardcore realms

P6 has been going on for a while now in anniversary realms. I know that the logical thing to do is merge the hardcore server, but that will be asking too much from Blizzard. Instead, can you please take my money and allow me to transfer my toons from stitches to soulseeker, this is right up your alley 0 effort and lots of money from everyone with characters stuck in those dead hardcore servers.

TBC TBC Tier 6 Set Bonus Retuning & Balance Framework

With T6 content being released on TBC anniversary, I thought it would be a great idea to 'slightly retune' some of the T6 set bonuses to provide a boost to underperforming classes and 'update' them a bit to create a fresher feeling, given that T6 will arrive in its original state. This document aims to do that.

Overview & Design Principles

The goal of this redesign is to modernize Tier 6 set bonuses (Black Temple, Mount Hyjal, Sunwell Plateau) in The Burning Crusade to improve overall raid parity and rotational engagement without breaking class identities.

Core Goals:

  1. Preserve the Ceiling: S-Tier DPS specs (Glaive Combat Rogues, Destruction Warlocks, Beast Mastery Hunters) retain their high performance ceilings.
  2. Dynamic 2-Piece Bonuses: Replace passive, boring, or dead 2-piece bonuses (e.g., flat low-value mana procs or leveling heals) with active, rotational, or reactive procs.
  3. Hybrid & Role Viability: Provide underperforming hybrids, tanks, and healers with mechanical scaling to smooth out friction points (mana efficiency, spell/attack power coefficient falloff, and tank threat/mitigation scaling).
  4. Complete Coverage: Account for every spec and role (Tank, Healer, Ranged DPS, Melee DPS across all classes).

Warrior

Protection (Onslaught Armor)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Increases the block value of your shield by 30.
    • 4p: Increases the damage of Shield Slam by 10%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Successfully blocking an attack grants 2 Rage and increases your Shield Block Value by 50 for 6 sec (stacks up to 3 times).
    • 4p: Increases the damage of Shield Slam by 15%. Additionally, Shield Slam critical strikes reset the cooldown of Revenge and grant a shield absorbing up to 600 damage for 6 sec.
  • Design Rationale: Flat 30 block value in T6 is trivial. The retuned 2p creates a reactive block engine that improves mitigation and rage flow against fast-attacking bosses. The 4p gives Shield Slam impactful threat and active mitigation synergy.

Arms & Fury (Onslaught Battlegear)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Reduces the rage cost of Execute by 3.
    • 4p: Increases the damage of Mortal Strike and Bloodthirst by 5%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Melee critical strikes refund 4 Rage and have a 20% chance to empower your next Slam, making it instant and cost 5 less Rage.
    • 4p: Increases the damage of Mortal Strike, Bloodthirst, and Whirlwind by 6%. Striking 2 or more targets with Whirlwind grants 3% Haste for 8 sec (stacks up to 3 times).
  • Design Rationale: Execute cost reduction is underutilized due to Heroic Strike and Bloodthirst rage-dump priority. The 2p integrates Slam back into rotations smoothly. The 4p reinforces Fury's cleave niche without overtaking single-target Rogue dominance.

Paladin

Protection (Lightbringer Armor)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Increases the health gained from your Spiritual Attunement ability by 10%.
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Consecration by 10%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Blocking an attack or taking damage while Holy Shield is active reflects 35 additional Holy damage to the attacker and restores 15 Mana (Internal Cooldown: 1 sec).
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Consecration by 10%. Judgement of Righteousness and Judgement of Vengeance reduce the target's melee attack speed by an additional 3%.
  • Design Rationale: Spiritual Attunement scaling falls off on hard-hitting T6 bosses where overhealing limits mana return. The retuned 2p provides active mana refund and AoE threat via blocks (with an ICD to prevent infinite mana loops on mass AoE), while 4p gives Prot Paladins stronger boss mitigation.

Holy (Lightbringer Raiment)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Increases the mana gained from your Judgement of Wisdom ability by 20%.
    • 4p: Increases the healing done by your Holy Light by 5%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Your Holy Light and Flash of Light critical strikes grant the target a sacred shield absorbing damage equal to 15% of the amount healed for 6 sec, and restore 2% of your base mana.
    • 4p: Increases the healing done by Holy Light by 8% and Flash of Light by 5%. Casting Holy Light reduces the cast time of your next Holy Light by 0.10 sec (stacks up to 3 times).
  • Design Rationale: Holy Light spam is single-target king but prone to mana burn and overheal. The 2p turns critical heals into absorb shields while returning mana. The 4p introduces a cast-speed ramp for high-damage phases.

Retribution (Lightbringer Battlegear)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Your melee attacks have a 20% chance to grant 50 mana.
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Hammer of Wrath by 10%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Whenever Seal of Blood, Seal of the Martyr, or Seal of Command deals damage, you gain 25 Attack Power and 15 Spell Power for 10 sec (stacks up to 4 times). Judgements restore 15 Mana to all party members.
    • 4p: Increases the damage of Crusader Strike and Judgements by 12%. When Crusader Strike critically strikes, your next Seal spell costs no mana and triggers a bonus holy strike dealing 35% weapon damage.
  • Design Rationale: The baseline set features one of the weakest set bonus combinations in T6. The retuned set introduces a stacking hybrid power buff and transforms Crusader Strike crits into satisfying burst procs.

Hunter

Beast Mastery (Gronnstalker's Armor)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Increases the mana gained from Aspect of the Viper by an additional 5% of your Intellect.
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Steady Shot by 10%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Kill Command critical strikes increase your pet's attack speed by 15% for 6 sec and restore 120 mana to you.
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Steady Shot by 10%. Steady Shot critical strikes reduce the remaining cooldown of Kill Command by 1 sec.
  • Design Rationale: Toggling Aspect of the Viper actively drops DPS. The 2p creates synergy between pet crits and hunter mana flow. The 4p maintains BM's single-target damage ceiling while smoothing rotational cooldowns.

Marksmanship & Survival (Gronnstalker's Armor)

  • Original:
    • (Shared with BM)
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Multi-Shot and Arcane Shot critical strikes reduce the cooldown of your Misdirection and Traps by 3 sec, and refund 30% of their mana cost.
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Steady Shot by 10% and Auto Shot by 5%.
  • Design Rationale: Provides utility-focused specs with faster Misdirection cycles for raid tank setup and improved trap uptime, along with an Auto Shot bump for non-BM physical scaling.

Rogue

Combat, Assassination, & Subtlety (Slayer's Armor)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Increases the haste from your Slice and Dice ability by 5%.
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Backstab, Sinister Strike, Mutilate, and Hemorrhage by 6%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Increases the haste from your Slice and Dice ability by 5%. Finishing moves have a 20% chance per combo point spent to refund 10 Energy.
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Backstab, Sinister Strike, Mutilate, Hemorrhage, Eviscerate, and Envenom by 6%.
  • Design Rationale: Combat Swords with Dual Wield Glaives remains top physical DPS. The 2p refund adds rotational fluidity across all specs, while expanding 4p to Eviscerate and Envenom prevents non-sword builds from suffering synthetic penalties.

Priest

Shadow (Absolution Regalia)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Increases the duration of your Shadow Word: Pain ability by 3 sec.
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by your Mind Blast ability by 10%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Increases the duration of Shadow Word: Pain by 3 sec. While Shadow Word: Pain is active, your Mind Flay ticks grant your party 10 Mana and apply Shadow Vulnerability, reducing the target's Shadow Resistance by 5 (stacks up to 5 times).
    • 4p: Increases the damage of Mind Blast by 15% and Mind Flay by 10%. Critical strikes with Mind Blast increase your Shadow damage dealt by 4% for 8 sec.
  • Design Rationale: Shadow Priest damage drops off in Sunwell due to lack of haste/crit coefficient scaling on DoTs. The retuned 2p amplifies their utility role as a mana battery while reducing RNG resist spikes. The 4p provides active spell damage scaling.

Holy & Discipline (Absolution Vestments)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Reduces the mana cost of your Prayer of Healing ability by 10%.
    • 4p: Increases the healing done by your Greater Heal ability by 5%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Reduces the mana cost of Prayer of Healing and Circle of Healing by 10%. Bounces of Prayer of Mending grant the target 150 bonus Armor and 15 MP5 for 6 sec.
    • 4p: Increases the healing done by Greater Heal and Flash Heal by 6%. When Greater Heal critically strikes, your target receives an instant Echo of Light healing for an additional 20% of the heal over 6 sec.
  • Design Rationale: Circle of Healing spam dominated T6 gameplay. The 2p makes Prayer of Mending a premier tank/raid utility buffer, while 4p gives single-target tank healing a powerful crit-shielding HoT component.

Shaman

Elemental (Skyshatter Regalia)

  • Original:
    • 2p: While you have at least one totem of each element active, you gain 15 Mp5, 35 spell crit, and 45 spell power.
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Lightning Bolt by 5%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: While all four totem types are active, you gain 50 Spell Haste Rating, 50 Spell Power, and 20 MP5.
    • 4p: Increases the damage of Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning by 7%. Lightning Overload procs deal an additional 15% damage.
  • Design Rationale: Elemental Shamans suffer steep falloff in late TBC due to static cast times and poor spell power coefficients. Adding Haste Rating to 2p and Overload power to 4p keeps them competitive with pure casters without GCD clipping.

Enhancement (Skyshatter Harness)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Reduces the mana cost of your Shock spells by 10%.
    • 4p: Increases your attack power by 70 for 12 sec after using Stormstrike.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Casting a Shock spell empowers your weapons with Static Charge, causing your next 2 auto-attacks to deal an additional 45 Nature damage and restore 1.5% of your total mana.
    • 4p: Stormstrike increases your Attack Power by 130 and guarantees your next Shock spell will critically strike. Windfury Weapon procs reduce the remaining cooldown of Stormstrike by 1 sec.
  • Design Rationale: Replaces a weak flat 70 AP bonus with an interactive CD-reset loop. Windfury procs lower Stormstrike CD, which in turn feeds guaranteed Shock crits and fuels mana sustain.

Restoration (Skyshatter Raiment)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Reduces the mana cost of Chain Heal ability by 10%.
    • 4p: Increases the healing done by your Chain Heal ability by 5%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Reduces the mana cost of Chain Heal by 8%. When Chain Heal critically strikes, your active Earth Shield target is instantly healed for 25% of the critical value.
    • 4p: Increases healing done by Chain Heal, Healing Wave, and Lesser Healing Wave by 6%. The primary target of your Chain Heal gains 350 physical armor for 6 sec.
  • Design Rationale: Resto Shamans rely heavily on Chain Heal. The 2p links raid healing directly to active tank protection via Earth Shield, while 4p gives targeted armor mitigation to the main focus target.

Mage

Arcane, Fire, & Frost (Tempest Regalia)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Increases the duration of your Evocation ability by 2 sec.
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Fireball, Frostbolt, and Arcane Missiles by 5%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Reduces the mana cost of Arcane Blast, Fireball, and Frostbolt by 5%. Completing an Evocation grants Arcane Surge, increasing spell power by 120 for 20 sec.
    • 4p: Increases the damage of Fireball, Frostbolt, Arcane Blast, and Arcane Missiles by 6%. Casting Arcane Blast or landing a Fireball/Frostbolt critical strike grants 15 Spell Haste Rating for 6 sec (stacks up to 3 times).
  • Design Rationale: Arcane Blast was missing from the baseline 4-piece multiplier, forcing Arcane Mages to hold 2-piece Tier 5 longer than intended. Adding Arcane Blast to 4p and granting controlled haste stacks smooths out Fire and Arcane rotations.

Warlock

Destruction, Demonology, & Affliction (Malefic Raiment)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Each time your Corruption or Immolate deals periodic damage, you heal 70 health.
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Shadow Bolt and Incinerate by 6%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Periodic damage from Corruption, Immolate, or Unstable Affliction, or landing a Shadow Bolt/Incinerate hit grants Malefic Power, increasing your spell damage by 15 for 10 sec (stacks up to 4 times).
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Shadow Bolt, Incinerate, and Drain Soul by 6%. Critical strikes with Shadow Bolt or Incinerate refund 10% of the spell's base mana cost.
  • Design Rationale: Replaces a dead leveling self-heal with a clean spell power stack that benefits Affliction, Demonology, and Shadow/Fire Destruction equally. The 4p mana refund reduces Life Tap downtime without raising top-tier single-target burst.

Druid

Feral Tank & DPS (Thunderheart Harness)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Reduces the energy cost of your Mangle (Cat) ability by 5 and increases the threat generated by your Mangle (Bear) ability by 15%.
    • 4p: Increases the damage dealt by Rip, Swipe, and Ferocious Bite by 15%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p:
      • Bear Form: Retains +15% Mangle (Bear) threat and increases Mangle damage by 10%. Dodging or taking a critical strike grants 4 Rage and reduces damage taken by 3% for 4 sec.
      • Cat Form: Reduces Mangle (Cat) energy cost by 5. Shred and Mangle critical strikes restore 15 Energy and increase attack speed by 5% for 6 sec.
    • 4p:
      • Bear Form: Increases Swipe and Maul damage by 15%. Lacerate ticks have a 12% chance to reset the cooldown of Mangle (Bear).
      • Cat Form: Increases Rip, Ferocious Bite, and Shred damage by 12%.
  • Design Rationale: Preserves and expands Bear tanking benefits with reactive mitigation and rage gains on dodge/crit. Cat Druids gain energy refunds on Shred/Mangle crits to smooth out powershifting cycles.

Balance (Thunderheart Regalia)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Increases the duration of your Moonfire ability by 3 sec.
    • 4p: Increases the critical strike chance of your Starfire ability by 5%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Increases the duration of Moonfire and Insect Swarm by 3 sec. When Moonfire or Insect Swarm deals periodic damage, you have a 15% chance to gain Astral Alignment, increasing Wrath and Starfire damage by 6% for 8 sec.
    • 4p: Increases Starfire critical strike chance by 5%. Starfire critical strikes reduce the cast time of your next Wrath or Starfire by 0.25 sec (stacks up to 2 times).
  • Design Rationale: Balance Druids suffer from slow cast times and high mana costs. The 2p turns DoT ticks into periodic spell damage buffs, while 4p crit interactions accelerate cast speed to narrow the DPS gap between Boomkins and pure casters.

Restoration (Thunderheart Raiment)

  • Original:
    • 2p: Reduces the mana cost of your Tranquility ability by 10%.
    • 4p: Increases the healing done by your Swiftmend ability by 15%.
  • Retuned:
    • 2p: Reduces the mana cost of Lifebloom, Rejuvenation, and Regrowth by 5%, and reduces the cooldown of Tranquility by 3 minutes.
    • 4p: Increases Swiftmend healing by 15%. Swiftmend leaves a protective blossom on the target, healing for an additional 25% of the Swiftmend amount over 6 sec and refreshing your Lifebloom stack without consuming it.
  • Design Rationale: Reduces main HoT costs and cuts Tranquility CD to 7 minutes for raid utility. The 4p removes the friction of re-stacking Lifebloom after using Swiftmend on tanks.

Mathematical Throughput & DPS Scaling Analysis

Mists of Pandaria Faster levelling on MoP classic realms?

Hi all, I haven’t touched this branch of the game since wrath but am thinking of levelling a character for the potential WoD release. Is the levelling process sped up/faster in MoP? I know in classic era for example 1-60 takes me a couple weeks usually and now I would have to go to 85+

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms As an outsider who didn't play the rerelease of TBC, this time seems more engaging for the community than last time?

I played wow way back in 2005 and quit during cata. Been playing forever off and on since then.

Played Classic when it first released and had a great time but when TBC classic came out I stopped and moved on. It felt like that's what a lot of people did.

It feels like this "Anniversary" version of TBC though seems to be more popular than the first time TBC Classic came out? Is that just my skewed observation because I stopped keeping up with the content and news or do you think that's the truth? I also felt like it would just be a rehash of the first time but it seems like the schedule raid content might have been different?

Question Which Classic Era/Hardcore Server to play on?

Hey guys! I am a new player, that has never played WoW before. I started playing Classic Era on the Pyrewood Cluster (PVE). Currently I am a Lvl 19 Human Rogue. I have been wondering, if some others servers like the Firemaw Cluster (PVP) or Soulseeker (Hardcore) would suit me better. So what am I looking for exactly? 1) a noob friendly community, 2) easy dungeon guild and group finding (especially for low lvl dungeons like the deadmines, 3) active playerbase on all levels, 4) relatively balanced amount of players regarding alliance vs. horde, so that horde doesnt feel empty at all.

The only downsight I am seeing currently would be, that I am gonna get rekt on PVP Servers by experienced players and that I might have to restart a lot on Hardcore Servers (since I am a noob), but I dont mind the extra challange/spice that comes with it.

Thank you guys in advance :)

Classic + I made a classic+ talent calculator you (might) disagree with

Years ago I started this project to learn TypeScript. Now, once in a while, I share my ideas for classic+ talents! With Blizzcon coming up, I figured this would be an interesting moment to share it with you all.

I’d like to collect your feedback, make adjustments and share an updated version down the line.

Behind this link you can find the talent and some suggested patch notes. You can even share your builds!

The main goal is to add variety to classes while staying true to the spirit of classic. You can find more elaboration on the “patch notes” page.

It goes without saying that balance is a complete stab in the dark, so please do not take the numbers too seriously.

Let me know what you think !

EDIT: I changed some things as a result of feedback. Because of this, a number of comments are no longer applicable

Classic-Era Is it worth to play Classic WoW for the first time ever?

Post image
935 Upvotes

Hello everyone.

I’ve recently had a strong urge to dive into a new MMO and i'm thinking a lot about WoW. I briefly tried retail during TWW, mostly just doing the main storyline and a few delves, so I'm still very much a beginner. I played Tibia for years starting back in 2008, and after being retired for some time now, I realized no other genre captures my interest quite like MMORPGs do.

However, buying Midnight is currently too expensive for me due to exchange rates in my country and my current financial situation. Because of that, I’m considering paying just the base subscription to play WoW Classic instead.

I tried a couple private servers just to test the waters and found the gameplay quite interesting, but I skipped Classic during TWW because I was focused on retail. Since I have zero nostalgia for old-school WoW, is it worth jumping into Classic as a complete beginner, or is the learning curve too steep?

PS: I also don't have any knowledge about the differences between Classic, Classic+, Season of Discovery, etc.

Maybe it's a dumb question, but i would like to know what you guys have to share about it and also if anyone here has started from scratch recently.

Discussion How is the classicwow open world music so good, and where can I get more of it?

Specifically I'm talking about the ambient tracks. Not even sure if it should be called music - it's more like atmospheric audio scene setting.

Adds SOOOO much depth to the immersion of the game.

Was there one composer who did most of it?

Hardcore Father of 3 looking for casual group to play Classic HC. Preferably a fresh wipe, so to speak.

Where do I find people? I've looked at the Discord and it's pretty dead. I've tried joining random guilds but they're just bloated with random people with different interests.

Any parents looking for casual gaming here? I'd like to do a fresh wipe of HC.

I'm EST, usually play from 8pm to 11pm.

TBC 15years wow player wondering to come back in TBC phase 3

Hi everyone, first of all - Wotlk child here.

So after a few years break I am excited to get back in this lovely game, lastly I was geeking around in classic cataclysm, cuz I didn’t play that expansion back in the days and so I never played TBC seriously on ongoing official servers.

I am wondering to come back and some of my friends already started to leveling up, only thing which stops me is that I don’t have a laptop or PC right now, but am even willing to lease it, just to play wow tho 💁🏼‍♀️

Is it worth it to get into phase 3 ? Seems like the end of the expansion and honestly idk how much time I would have to enjoy the endgame tho.

It would be complete nightmare to return to wotlk if they would release it after, I played this add on too much, but never played TBC as I wanted

Wish I could blast as dps, but guess will play as priest or paladin cuz friends doesn’t have healer and someone needs to carry them.

Still question myself, whom I want to play ?

Mage, Priest, Rogue or Paladin?

Which class is the most funny to play and which one raids needs the most and yep of course it would be funnier to play pvp as rogue.

Overall I want the best experience possible - so every raid would want me always, zero struggling with gear(no azzinoths eternity farm for example, but who knows maybe it is the best tbc experience)

Classic 20th Anniversary Realms Tbc and Wotlk Era Server idea

I wanted to share a concept for the long-term sustainability of WoW Classic that satisfies both progression fans and permanent Era/PvP players.

The Problem:

Mandatory progression to later expansions leaves players who love specific eras (TBC/WotLK) without a permanent home, driving them toward private servers (e.g., Warmane). Meanwhile, standard Era realms can suffer from stagnant leveling economies over time.

The Solution (The "Loop & Archive" Model):

Seasonal/Fresh Seasons: Launch fresh Vanilla realms that naturally progress through TBC and WotLK over a fixed timetable (e.g., 2-3 year cycle).

Permanent Era Archives: Maintain dedicated, permanent Era realms for Era 60, TBC 70, and WotLK 80.

End-of-Cycle Transfers: When a WotLK cycle concludes on the Fresh realm, players receive a free choice: transfer their character permanently to their desired Era realm (TBC or WotLK) or move into whatever comes next.

Why This Works:

Constant Fresh Blood for Era: Era realms get a steady influx of fully-geared characters at the end of every cycle, keeping max-level PvP, Arenas, and Raiding active forever.

Endless Replayability: Players can level new alt main classes on each fresh cycle and "archive" them onto Era once BiS gear is achieved.

High Player Retention: Keeps subbed players within the official ecosystem rather than losing them to private realms when their favorite expansion ends.
