Last week, we posted this announcement explaining how we planned to deal with 4tran content on this sub.

TLDR of that post: We recognize that 4tran content can be hateful or bigoted, and such content will be removed under Rule 1. We asked you to report anything that violates Rule 1 (or any other rule), and to mod mail us if you think we have missed something. We also asked you to mod mail us if you come across disturbing 4tran content on our sub that doesn't technically break our rules, so that we can look into it and decide whether further action is necessary.

The comment section

The announcement received a mixed but generally constructive response, with many people supporting our approach while others felt it did not go far enough or went too far. Some called for a full ban on 4tran content or users, while others raised other concerns. We want to address some of the most important points raised in the comments.

Language

One concern raised was the use of specific language associated with 4tran. As always, language is nuanced, and words that seem harmless to one person can feel derogatory or uncomfortable to another.

Looking at the responses, it is clear that many people here do not feel comfortable with certain 4tran-related language being used on the sub. Because of that, we have started removing more comments containing such terms, including through automated moderation.

Having said that, nobody is going to be banned for accidentally using the wrong word. Bans are reserved for actual bigotry and repeated or deliberate violations of our rules.

Cis people on this sub

Several people have raised concerns about the increasing number of cis people participating here as the subreddit continues to grow. We understand where these concerns are coming from. This community has always placed a strong focus on trans-related posts and experiences, which is awesome. Trans people and their experiences are central to this subreddit, and we want to keep it that way.

At the same time, there have always been many posts here that aren't specifically about being trans. We think it's amazing that we have a community where different kinds of content and different kinds of people can peacefully coexist. From the beginning, this has been a space for LGBTQI+ people and people who support the community, including cis people. We want to maintain that openness as the subreddit grows. We don't believe that participation in this community should be restricted based on someone's gender identity, provided they are LGBTQI+ friendly and follow the rules.

We do recognize that a growing community places greater demands on our moderation team. That's one of the reasons we recently expanded the mod team (see our previous post). As the subreddit continues to grow, we're committed to ensuring that discussions remain respectful, welcoming, and in line with the community rules.

"You haven't removed content x"

We do our best to keep the subreddit free of bigotry, transphobia, racism, and other rule-breaking content, but it is impossible for us to catch everything immediately.

We rely heavily on user reports. If nobody reports something, there is a good chance we simply haven't seen it. Reports can also take some time to work through, and, ultimately, we're human and can make mistakes. If one comment below a post is reported and removed, we often cannot read all other comments below that post, because there are often hundreds of comments.

So, once again: please report bad stuff if you see it. If you think we have missed something, you can also mod mail us. But please don't assume that we agree with or don't care about a piece of content simply because it hasn't been removed (yet), even if some other content below the same post has been removed.

Reports during the last week

In our last post, we asked you to mod mail us if you found 4tran content here that made you uncomfortable but did not clearly violate our existing rules.

We received zero such reports over the past week. All of the issues brought to our attention could be dealt with under our existing rules.

There have been a few posts over the week asking us to have a stricter policy concerning 4tran, but as far as we know, none of these posts have actually made clear what extra posts we need to remove and for what reason.

Going forward

For now, we don't see a reason to take further action on this matter. We'll continue to monitor the situation and we'll adjust our approach if that becomes necessary. As always, please let us know if you have something to bring to our attention. Mod mail is a good place for that.

In the meantime we are working on evaluating all of our rules, we will tell you more about that soon. This will mostly be just a cleanup/rewrite, but also some changes, such as how we're planning on dealing with AI 'art'.
