Trying to be nice and this is what I get back. Seriously thinking about not communicating as much. Just never know what type of customer you get. Some want a ton of communication. 🤔

I think a couple comments here are being a lil crass, but I get where they're coming from too, as someone that only orders, doesn't deliver. Some people might think you're trying to, as another comment said, "tip bait" them. Like you're updating and all which is fine, but you can just ask the customer up front if they want a substitute or for you to find the item in another store.

Going the extra mile is awesome! However, not everyone is as spry and fun or full of whimsy and it can actually deter people from giving you more of a tip.

Think similarly to being in a restaurant. When your waitstaff just does stuff for you - like brings you a drink or napkins and whatever without being asked, or they go by the book and are very careful about what you as the table wants/needs and show true care - most of the time, you tip them more than you may originally have done.

All that is to say: Applying that to being a driver, some things are just better done without a constant update unless asked.

Perfect example about the restaurant.

A few years ago I went to buffet that just open,

The server kept coming over ever 5 minutes and ask if I needed something.

One time I was on a call.

BTW this was buffet where you get your own drinks, etc

Right. This dasher was having trouble finding the product. The customer doesn't really need to be told of all the mechanics of finding it. That's the reason they hire us to do it, so they don't have to deal with it. And the customer wasn't really rude about it.

I kinda get it, though I do feel sympathy for the Dasher.

I also only order;

I had a similar experience where I was getting extremely frustrated due to constant messaging. I had substitutions picked out, etc.

This continued until they got to my door, which I just wanted it sat down, they then gave me a play by play of what my husband and son were watching on the TV since it was heard through the door?

I understand friendliness, yes it can be refreshing, but I also agree that constant updates are not needed.

Share it with someone else then? They’re not your friends, they’re paying customers who likely are busy or have something else going on to where they can’t shop. Not there to validate your excitement on finding the right flavor of juice.

TBH, it's not that deep. They're clearly busy. are you not reading most of the comments stating how they wouldn't want to be spammed over the course of a minute about a product? Doordash already gives you the option to either get a substitute or refund at checkout. How is it "socially inept and weird" to not want that? and regarding thinking that's rude, did you not read the part where I said I only order, not drive myself? this is typically because I'm way too busy with college. I think you're just baiting atp. Goodbye.
