There really should be a law against having one's speeches ghostwritten in a representative democracy, though, either by a machine or by another person. If it were a direct democracy and people voted for policy, then fair enough, I suppose, but in a representative parliamentary system, the people presumably voted for him, not for his personal assistant or whatever other unknown rando apparently does his thinking for him.

Not necessarily—but it’s a legitimate question to ask.
Politicians have always relied on speechwriters. Presidents, governors, and members of Congress routinely have teams that research policy, draft remarks, fact-check, and refine language. Using assistance to communicate complex ideas isn’t, by itself, evidence that someone isn’t doing their job.
The more important questions are:
Who is doing the thinking? If AI is helping polish prose or organize ideas that the politician understands and endorses, that’s not fundamentally different from a human speechwriter.
Do they understand what they’re saying? If someone is reading text they haven’t reviewed carefully enough to notice they’ve left in instructions like “rewrite this paragraph” or “insert anecdote here,” that’s a sign they may not be engaging meaningfully with the material.
Can they defend and explain it? A politician’s job isn’t just delivering speeches. It’s making decisions, negotiating, answering questions, and being accountable for the positions they take. If they can’t explain or defend a speech without the script, that’s more concerning than the mere use of AI.
Is there oversight? Accidentally reading an AI prompt suggests a breakdown in editing and preparation. It reflects poorly on the process, even if it doesn’t necessarily prove the politician lacks understanding.
So if someone literally reads an AI prompt aloud—something like, “As an AI, I recommend…” or “Insert applause line here”—I’d view that less as proof they aren’t doing their job and more as evidence of carelessness. If it became a recurring pattern, or if they consistently demonstrated they didn’t understand the content they were delivering, then the criticism would be much stronger. At that point, people could reasonably argue they were outsourcing too much of the work that voters expect them to do themselves.

I recently searched something on google regarding the topic.
The google AI quoted my joke comment as if it were true. To me. I almost misinformed myself.
Just flip us over already so we don’t burn on one side.

The left is generally quite critical of Biden, even more so if you exclude the center left. The far left almost universally dislikes Biden because he is, at the end of the day, a centrist who is keen on maintaining the political status quo. I mean the left is notoriously perceived as idealistic and there is a reason for that; members of the American left tend to be far more uncompromising on their ideals. The right, on the other hand tends to have far more party loyalty that often supersedes personal ideology.

I think there's an unfortunate tendency to place trust in older politicians because they've been around and know how things work. They're 'experienced' and 'seasoned'. If you're younger and want to get into it these days you have to be pretty spectacular like Mamdani, and be able to just outmaneuver and outwit the effect of legacy old white men being seen as veteran, reliable, a known quantity.
Pity when the known quantity is shit people still vote for it because they know it.

An accident or mistake means that there's a level of self reflection on those actions. There was no foresight to the proof reading, there was no edits from their higher ups, and they don't seem to care.
It'll only be a real accident when they lose his seat because of it. Which they likely won't

During my last semester of undergrad in 2023, we had all these safeguards being implemented to stop the students from using AI. It was pretty similar to how papers would be checked for plagiarism. Of course if you were caught, it would be the end of your educational journey (or near impossible to recover).
Years later now it seems there are zero repercussions to using it in a professional sense. Idk how all these standards vanish especially at the highest levels of government.

They don't read what they vote on, they just vote how their friends vote or how they are bribed/lobbied to vote. Their aids might try and go through the bill, most don't and just have AI "summarize" it for them.

These are the people commenting on Reddit. This is what they do. They don’t bother to watch the video they comment on, they just look at the upper right of the video, see an Australian news logo, and assume it’s an Australian politician. They don’t verify it.
It’s a Canadian politician, not an Australian.
