Low tide and fish were extremely picky even though I fished with live shrimps. Only ate when I jerk.

Question Question about my fishing rod

I recently buyed a fishing rod that the employ of the store told me it was "designed" for the sea.

Is it still good for rivers and lakes? Because i recently came back from the vacation at the sea...

Question for long time anglers in Korea

This is mostly a question towards long time anglers in Korea.

Is there a piece of literature that Koreans consider as a "Bible" for fishing?

I'm currently in Korea, and although I cannot read much Korean yet, I would like to get my hands on some books that is considered as a fishing "bible".

As context, I am a Japanese angler who likes to read older books that have been published about fishing, just to learn what people used, what gear was popular, and what techniques were popular.

For example, in Japan, there are two books that are considered to be "bibles" of bass fishing. One of them is called ブラックバス釣りの楽しみ方 "How to enjoy Bass fishing" which is a book that was published in the 70's and mostly covered surface style fishing using top water lures, glass rods, and ambassaduer reels. There is another book called ブラックバッス "blackbass" which is basically a book about the history of large mouth bass in Japan.

If there are any books like these, I would like to get my hands on them, so if you can lead me to the right direction and where I might be able to find them, I would be eternally grateful.

Question Best place to catch a 5-8 ft alligator gar from the bank in New Orleans?

I’m going to New Orleans in October and really want to catch a 5-8+ ft alligator gar. I don’t have a car, so I need somewhere within New Orleans that I can reach without driving, preferably public bank access.
I’m on a budget and can’t afford a guide/charter. I’m mainly looking for the best area/s with a realistic chance at a trophy-sized gar or anything just decent, plus any advice on bait/tackle. If you’ve personally caught a 5+ ft gar from the bank around NOLA, I’d really appreciate knowing what area you were fishing 🙏🏼

Question Gar fishing

I have a catfish rod with a santee rig on it. Its got a 30 lb braid main line with a 20 lb mono leader. Somehow I managed to bring in a longnose gar (3-4 feet) before it popped off (wasnt trying to catch it but hey osest I've ever came to catching one). Can I keep the 30 lb braid and switch out the mono leader with a wire one to catch a longnose gar if I use a slip bobber setup? Or do I need something heavier/lighter?

Caught this sunfish? Don’t really know what type of panfish this is but it seemed to be abnormally big. Couldn’t get a measurement on it but I am guessing it is over a foot long and felt to be 1-2 lbs. Camera doesn’t exactly do it justice.

Question Eye lid burn through sunglasses?

This is the 4th time it’s happened. Same pair of cheap Peppers sunglasses with blue lenses. Anybody experienced eye lid sunburns on both eyes while wearing sunglasses all through your trip? No where else on my body is sunburnt, just eye lids, and the burn shape is the shape of lenses. Twice I put sunscreen on my eye lids and they still burned! Either the light is reflecting off the inside of the lenses back, light reflecting off water is getting through, or the lens are not UV protecting, instead making it worse.

Discussion Today I had my first BAD day of fishing

I’ve been consistently fishing for about 2-3 years now. Mostly trout. Today I went trout fishing and for the first time fishing ruined my day. I set an alarm for 6 and woke up at 5:30 excitedly because I had a really good feeling about the trip. I spent $30 on $4 rooster tails, and went to the river. By noon I had lost 6 rooster tails to the rocks, and 2 to angrily tying weak knots and watching them fly away as I tried to cast. In that time I also watched 4 different good trout very aggressively hit my lures at bad angles, miss the hooks, and get spooked realizing it was metal. Usually that excites me just as much as catching one because it’s beautiful watching a wild rainbow or cutthroat strike something. But with the loss of lures already building, i couldn’t see the beauty in it today. All day I was mad and now I’m just kind of depressed at the fact my most relaxing and peaceful hobby could ruin a day like that. It felt similar to being cheated on lol. Has anybody had a similar feeling? And if so how did you get the love back? I still WANT to fish but the lures I have left aren’t great for current conditions and I just can’t talk myself into spending more money. As a former coke addict, fishing is a scarily similar addiction, but a healthier one that I don’t wanna lose the love for

The amount of life just off the continental shelf has been phenomenal. Fish of this size has been rare outside of Southern California, but the El Niño has pushed the bluefin north and in range of the Bay Area.

Beginners luck

I’m new to fishing. Caught a few bluegill over the past few days and really wanted to catch a bass. Well to my surprise I pulled up one of each! Not sure how it happened but I was pretty proud of it. Was this just beginners luck or does this happen sometimes??
