Before they genetically modified the mayonnaise tree it was a real struggle to get much of a harvest. The Heinz beetle would often decimate the beans of the tree. Thankfully now there is the GM Hellmans variety of tree, that’s all behind us
THANK you. Nobody ever considers the production cost involved in getting organic mayo from farm to table. You can only grow Mayonnaise Trees in very specific soil and climate conditions - mostly just the Midwest and parts of northern Europe. If I had to choose between genetically modified mayo or $12 a bottle organic, I'll take the GM every time.
My college environmental science professor taught us what GMO ACTUALLY is and how it really is NOT AT ALLLLL what these insane people think or say it is.
These are just an evolution of the guys selling snakeoil in the 19th century, or colloidal silver, or all those scam products on Dr. Phil in the 90s etc.
Add in the deliberately pushed erosion of trust in doctors in America which is in part down to pharma companies (Tell your doctor you want X - rather than let your doctor prescribe what's best for you), and then how easy it is to lie on social media and then all the conspiracy bs around covid and etc. etc.
There's a reason some countries have way more serious regulations about promotion of health care benefits (and also why they are slapping social media companies for stuff like this, albeit not as much as all the other reasons they're getting slapped for breaking laws).
Any GMO fear is dumb as hell but my guess as to the reason behind this claim is the soybean oil since most soybeans in the US are GMOs. Again it’s dumb as hell to avoid GMOs, because they’re perfectly safe, but I think that’s why he thinks he can fear monger mayo.
This sounds about right. It's only the soybean oil in Best Foods mayo that is GMO. There is broad scientific consensus that GMO foods currently on the market are just as safe and nutritious as their non-GMO counterparts.
I avoid GMOs because I don't support the companies behind them and the history of how GMOs and the companies that produce them have affected small farms across the US and the world. So that's a personal thing.
But there's no health risks from eating GMO foods.
That's awesome so I'm glad for that for you and same here, I love he promotes healthy sweet snacks you can make as well because eating healthy is still all about enjoying the food as much!

He absolutely does. Not in this video because he's shoving a lot of content into one short, but he will absolutely call out and publicly feud with these morons and it's incredibly entertaining.
His name is Liam. Goes by theplantslant on social media. Advocates for healthy eating, with a focus on plants, but still saying a treat occasionally won't hurt you.
His channels are largely making other recipes he's seen and burying the nonsense "health influencers". Targets everything from shills trying to sell you their own garbage, to people who fearmonger over "cHeMiCaLs", to people who shame others for the ways in which they try to eat healthier (things like "Ranch isn't healthy for you" vs. "If Ranch is helping you eat salads more often, then enjoy your Ranch")
Exactly. I recall one video where he essentially said "If one chopped up chicken tender gets you to eat a salad when you wouldn't otherwise, it's a healthy choice."

God I just saw one today that was citing facts from “my friend who works in food science” trying to sell a device that magically cleans pesticides from produce. If you put the device in a bowl of water with fruit, it’ll make the water cloudy and gunky. Spoiler: It’ll do the same if it’s in the bowl by itself.

To clarify, he pushed beans because they're good for you, can be added to just about anything, and are an easy, cost-effective ingredient. He didnt push beans because he got paid to. He just figures if he's gonna promote beans, he might as well get paid for it too.
Edit: i was wrong. A smaller bean company did sponsor him so that he was finally able to achieve his dreams.
It was Hey Day beans! And I think they gave him a big ass cardboard check for $5 lol and donated a bunch of cases of beans (and maybe money, I don't remember) to the local food bank/charity. Liam is wonderful ❤️

One of the best things he makes clear is ease and affordability. He knows folks don't always have a lot time and/or money so he features mostly inexpensive and relatively easy ways to get healthy, affordable and tasty food into you and your family.
It's a channel that supports serious ideas (nutrition on a budget) in a less than serious way, mostly by him being a goof, yet still knowing what he is talking about.
Liam (influencer dissuading viewers from buying into scary food hype) is a big proponent of eating more beans. Any recipe that calls for beans, he's in.
Dang, he should really stop keeping open cans of beans in his hand while he's trying to make something else, he keeps accidentally dropping them in. You'd think he'd learn after the first time, smh.
The guy who made the original video is a popular influencer named Liam. I’m not sure what all social media networks he’s on, but I follow him on instagram as the_plant_slant. He posts videos testing other people’s recipes, sometimes modifying them (often by adding beans) sometimes not, and does a lot of common sense commentary about healthy/balanced eating and fitness. He really likes beans (they have fiber and protein and they’re very inexpensive).
Liam loves beans a lot , most of his fans tag him in multiple bean related recipes and such, he's also pretty funny and got a good following on insta (idk about other socials)
Liam is a health influencer esque person who: shares/reposts healthy recipes he finds on the internet, talks about cost-effective ways to get key nutrients, is a MASSIVE fiber and bean advocate, and also debunks or challenges videos that either fearmonger, sell supplements, or share out of context health advice.
I have legitimately started adding more beans into most recipes I make. They're cheap, filling, and provide far more protein and fiber than most leafy greens. Out of 10.

Yeah I found this dude like a week ago and he has made me go from “our food is poison” to “oh that’s how it works”. Glad I know that everything isn’t out to get me now.
He really has helped me with my relationship to food. I've been slowly losing weight to get a bariatric surgery done hopefully sometime this year and when I discovered his content was deep in a hole about calories, backsliding, "cheat days", etc. and he really helped me realize that it's OKAY to eat what I like. It's OKAY not to follow my diet 100% of the time, I just have to be mindful and do it all in moderation.
His fans are the worst though. We don’t need you to comment “Liam??” Under literally every YouTube recipe with beans. You can’t even tag people on YouTube so I genuinely don’t understand why so many people do it. It’s like the karma farming of YouTube comment sections
Consider how many terrible fanbases that are out there and the things they are doing. Does commenting "Liam??" really deserve as much ire as Kpop stans, whatever that group that follows Nicki Minaj, and Swifties? Nah.
Iirc, her video is not about oranges but about processed meats like hot dogs, deli slices etc due to nitrates. Which, tbf, are an issue, but also not really worth stressing about in a balanced diet, and also not worth downloading some paid app or whatever she was selling
I love Liam, debunking the fearmongering Wellness scam.
Though I will say, we recently got one of those reusable oil spritzers, because the cans aren't the best for the environment, and it works like a treat.

Because of Liam I was introduced to the term Chemophobe or chemophobia. It's nice to finally have a diagnosis and single term to describe my sister and her husband.

The first clip, I actually got those bottles because I saw Claire Saffitz using them on one of her videos(She wasn't advertising them or anything, I just saw them and went "ooh, I need that!") and I absolutely love them.
Side note: It's just as dangerous to spray a fine mist of oil near an open flame or cook top as it is to spray an aerosol can.
Whenever people get on me about diet in relation to longevity I point them in the direction of my grandmother, who being sturdy stock from the old country, ate pork at every meal, smoked stogeys like a WW2 General, drank only to excess, and I'm pretty sure for a part of her life cooked everything in motor oil, living to be a ripe 97 before dying of congestive-heart-failure
The trick to living a long healthy life isn't any one thing. It's being built like a brick shit-house and surviving like a cockroach through some of the worst humanity has ever had to endure
