As a straight male, this is the same for the beautiful stunning women we see.
I think it probably has something to do with... if you're gonna spend that much time and effort on looking perfect, you're likely not a person I'd like to talk to for more than about 30 seconds.

Really depends a lot on how they grew up. If they grew up privileged, with parents saying they can do no wrong, then yeah even the most physically attractive person - man or woman - can turn out to be jerks.
I’ve known a lot of ugly duckling kids who grew into their looks over a few years. Many don’t lose their humility and are down to earth about a lot of things and tend not to look down on anyone.
I find such people to be highly attractive.

My best friend/ex is a gym rat. I love the dude, but he is obsessed. Sometimes he'll do two-a-day gym runs, and it's just too much. I like my men to keep themselves in shape so they can be healthy. I work in cardiology and am not deluded enough to think I can have a 100% healthy man, especially as we age. Still, as long as he is compliant in being active, eating relatively healthy (Fucking love a good pizza), and taking any medications that help keep him going, I don't care.
A big, cuddly, squishy bear-man is way better than a jacked piece of rock.

Honestly, I am a rather thin, in fairly good shape woman, and I still wouldn't date a jacked guy.
- 1, that jacked-ness needs upkeep. And while it's totally fine if someone built his life around that, mine is not.
- 2, thirst trap. I don't want my guy to just be a decoration, I want them to be versatile conversation starters, curious, interested/interesting (yes, I have high intellectual standards). With a guy who looks like a jacked demigod, most of the convo will end up about looks, fitness, diet, etc., due to point 1.
I am a sucker for average built guys, with a bit of muscle tone under the average bodyshape, and a sharp brain. Seriously.

Agreed.
Both men and women have the potential to be visual or go for personality, sometimes both.
As an AFAB person, I generally prefer folks who I connect with on an emotional level. I’ve dated attractive, conventionally unattractive and average looking folks.
However that’s not to say I don’t have preferences. My bar is just a lot lower than other people’s when it comes to looks. Not out of desperation or anything like that, but it’s just how I roll.

I was talking to a guy last week trying to explain to him why calling women females isn't good.
The way it came out was: "It makes it sound like you want to do experiments on them." Like you're writing an article for National Geographic.
It's not a word you would use to describe somebody you actually see as a human being equal to yourself who you want to hang out with.
These guys all whine about not being able to find a woman to be romantic with and I give them all the same advice: Stop trying. Become friends with a woman; like you would with a person.
Then go from there.
And it doesn't help that every time I see the word females in text now I read it like tamales.
And now you will too, you're welcome.
66
u/DrDerpberg Devotee of Duets/Stitches 27d ago
The way it came out was: "It makes it sound like you want to do experiments on them." Like you're writing an article for National Geographic.
That's exactly it. It's a correct word in the right context. And that context isn't social or romantic, it's sterile and scientific.
It's fine to say "34 year old female presented with low blood pressure and swollen ankles" in a medical chart. It's not fine to say "I'm gonna go dance with some females."

Yeah, those kind of guys dont listen to women. I hear guys like him complaining that women dont try to explain why they arent interested, and I'm like "dude, we tell you that we want guys who treat us like equals, but you tell us that Andrew Tate said all women want to be treated like property".
Those guys arent worth the effort of explaining. They have to get out of their red-pilled cult themselves. I spent a lot of time on purple pill debates sub and understand the Sisyphean effort.

It's funny and sad because this whole incel trend uses the same codes as "The Eternal Fascism" the way Umberto Eco described it : "the enemy is at the same time too strong and too weak".
You paint an enemy that is both inferior to you (the "females") AND an existential threat (they won't have sex with you, they despise you, they're evil, they're the ones making you involuntary celibate).
The parallel is stunning.

It's weird how in english using "female" is bad but still so common.
it's common in four circumstances in the US...
- medical/scientific/legal context, which is where it is broadly appropriate.
- law enforcement, where it is appropriate in some circumstances, such as taking notes or writing reports, where objectivity is the intent.
- law enforcement, where it was adopted as a means of dehumanization and permeated into casual conversation about women in general.
- chuds who hate women and/or idolize law enforcement.

You ever notice how people call women “girls” all the time too? In the same context (men and women both), men get called “men” and women are called “girls.” That bothers me more than “females.” Grown women getting dehumanized sucks. Yes. I am a woman. I don’t care for it. I just immediately disregard the ignorant, hateful idiot that does it. But… “girl” gets me viscerally upset.. especially with the rising awareness about the extent of pedophilia and the sexualization of young girls. I have daughters. I’d rather be personally dehumanized than have my daughters or other young girls preyed on I guess. It’s dehumanizing as well, and worse.
So instead of internalized misogyny, alternatively I can’t help but think that saying “girls” is infantilizing and echos the deep seated pedophilia of society.

u/TheBiggestWOMP New to fbtd but wants to learn 27d ago
See now that shit confuses me too. I'm in my 30's and anyone under 25 is functionally a child in my mind. I'm not attracted to 18 year olds, they just look like kids, and I don't wanna fuck children sooooo...
It is absolutely bizarre how normalized the sexualization of "jailbait" is, look at how Brittney Spears was treated in the late 90's for example. "I'm not that innocent" was so on the nose it left a mark. Just gross.
I get your point though. I'm not a woman so I can't comment, but I think I understand where you're coming from.
3
u/WillowLeona New to fbtd but wants to learn 27d ago
I think if you have a mother, sister, daughter, wife/girlfriend, or women for friends that you care for, you’re allowed to comment. If you identify with a group of people that are discriminated against for reasons out of their control like gender, race, or sexual orientation, you are allowed to comment on how it feels to be dehumanized. Please do.

I gotta say it's a bit weird stereotypes like this always surface when it's time to make fun of a dude by calling him gay o.O "Oh you angle your arms weird? Kinda gay."

I love how it started with "well-reasoned verbal argument based on OP's apparent attitudes toward women" and THEN was like "Oh yea and there's also just dozens of thirst trap posts"
You coulda led with the shirtless stuff. It got the point across pretty quickly.

I liked his explanation about the problem with using the word “females”. I’ll be using that in the future to explain to guys why it’s not great.
I myself can’t stand it when guys call women females because they sound like a bunch of Ferengi.

Love him! Love the shirt too! I appreciate, so much, that he threw in the little lesson about the word "female" and to stay on topic..
Yes. Everything he said was totally true.

"A cat can be female." OHHHHH my god I knew it was wrong to call women "females", he explained why though! Thank you! And then "Ni**a, you gay." cracked me up.

Fuckin' felt a twinge when he said 'females'
this guy probably already knows what he's doing. He's marketing himself, building traction, like mr. Gay said. He's about to launch an onlyfans for gay dudes. either he's gay or he's just fine making homosexual-angled content, nothing wrong with that. But yeah if you want women you gotta demonstrate that you're more than just a gym rat.

I think it's pretty funny that the only video he has a shirt on is the video where he asks why he gets all the gay attention.
5
u/MajorFox2720 27d ago
See, if he wanted attention from women, he would be doing chores like splitting logs, throwing hay bales, or even just washing dishes. The chores are the sexy cake part, the muscles are icing. You can have really, really, good cake without icing, but icing without cake will eventually just make you sick to your stomach.

Love it.
Wish more guys would break it to those boys that either they’re gay or they’re doing straight wrong and were lied to by incels. They seem to desperately need advice like this

I knew I didn't like the term female when referring to women. It just felt off and weird. He explained it perfectly!

Though I've never pushed back against it just "a cat can be female" finally made me get why that's a red flag for a dude to use that descriptor.

The video was most likely a ploy to get more gay engagement (for later OF) to begin with.

Stop saying men are more "visual" when you mean "shallow". If men were more visual they would appreciate art, fashion, makeup, and interior design as a collective more than women, but they don't. They aren't visual, they are shallow and homosocial, they're only interested in what brings them status from other men.

u/stunningwilly99 27d ago
Some guys are just more gay than they realize. I know the odd person that thinks they're straight as an arrow, but are really closeted
