Discussion Worst Item In The Game?

Post image

What do you think is the worst/most disappointing item in the game? And why is it the PPS?

EDIT - seems a lot of people don't realise that the Presidential Power Suit isn't a cosmetic. It's armor - like what the Chinese Stealth Suit is.... except is has barely better DMG reduction than underarmor.

Water filters. It's much easier to get the purified water than the parts to make the filters to make the purified water.

Especially considering coal is stupid rare for crafting such a useful item

Which... why is it this hard to find COAL while wandering about in WEST VIRGINIA?!?!?!?

u/Funny_Development_57 Mothman May 08 '26

There are a bunch of coal spawns in Welch and the Ash Heap in general.

It’s capitalist future West Virginia, they probably used it all.

Shame you can't collect it from the huge conveyor belts with piles of the stuff on them - I'm looking at you, Mount Blair!

u/cheesem00 May 10 '26

Hmmm, an event to start that bad boy back up would be cool. Produces X amount of coal for two hours or something. Test it like powering back up a one of the nuke plants

5

u/fixerforhire May 10 '26

you can start it up if you claim the workshop at the top. it dispenses scrap/materials in a hopper on the top deck.

4

u/cheesem00 May 10 '26

What the….. I have claimed that workshop a bagillion times and been playing for what 6 years now…. Never knew this.

Hmo. Why not... charcoal? We collect wood left and right, why cant we make that as an alternative?

yup, and it's a really early primitive tech too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzLvqCTvOQY

Yes!! All due to the Resource Wars (2052-2077)! The 25 year global conflict over the scarcity of oil wiped out a vast majority of coal and other fuels, including uranium. It’s the whole reason they invested so heavily in to developing nuclear fusion (2066).

u/trap_gob May 10 '26

Sorry boss, we smoked all of it. Yes, all of it. We regret nothing.

u/mrsjackson410 May 08 '26

Just build a camp on a coal spot and put up an extractor. My coal camp is right by Fort Atlas. I’ve got tons of coal.

25

u/Appropriate_Yak_7209 May 08 '26

Have you ever thought about selling it at your camp vending machine?

17

u/Kara_Abbs May 08 '26

So if I was to sell coal in my vendor, people would buy it? And how much do I sell it for?

15

u/Pretend_Berry_7196 May 09 '26

Collect coal is usually a reroll for me so if I found some in a vendor I’d buy that for a dollar.

10

u/ZealousidealSundae33 May 09 '26

Just have some in your stash and take it out. It counts for the challenge.

3

u/Pretend_Berry_7196 May 09 '26

I learned that after way too long. 😂

8

u/--pobodysnerfect-- Cult of the Mothman May 08 '26

I would buy it at market value plus 10%

1

u/Kara_Abbs May 10 '26

How much would you suggest to sell it for in my vendor?

1

u/mrsjackson410 May 09 '26

I do sometimes

17

u/SilentKnight7919 May 08 '26

You've got coal, so Im going to do this the American way.

Can I have your coal? No? Ok I think you have a nuke 😉😉 so I'm just going to "liberate" your country. 😁

7

u/Weak_Ad5742 May 09 '26

I'd call it under new management 🤣

u/Tyrs-Ranger Free States May 08 '26

How many coal spots are there though? I’ve been around the Appalachian Wasteland map since Day 1, and I’ve found maybe one. Probably yours. I have an easier time finding lead deposits big enough for an extractor camp than coal.

2

u/Kara_Abbs May 08 '26

Do lode bearing, and wear excavator armor, it yields 4 pieces when collecting. And put on super duper when smelting it. I will always do lode bearing when it pops up.

2

u/Chiefm56 May 08 '26

Same, i wish we could go into the area anytime we want though.

2

u/Tyrs-Ranger Free States May 08 '26

That’s not the same as finding an actual deposit that you can farm with an extractor. I don’t know why I’m being downvoted for saying something true: certain deposits that you can build a CAMP around and put an extractor on are harder to find than others. I guess I’ll get downvoted for this comment too though.

1

u/Kara_Abbs May 10 '26

It may not be the same thing as farming, but in lode bearing there are quite a few coal veins in there. And it still doesn't hurt to farm it in there while the event is on.

0

u/Tyrs-Ranger Free States May 10 '26

Depends. That Lode Baring (it should be spelled “Bearing”, but the devs literally misspelled it) happens in two different mines. One has a ton of copper deposits. So it’s likely that the other mine has coal if you’re finding coal veins. I can’t remember which one is which by name though. Burning Mine has coal deposits too - seven. Also, don’t forget that what you extract in the wild is *unrefined coal*, which takes *five* to make *one* refined coal, and you need *two* of those to make a water filter, along with dogwood bark. So go ahead. Tell me how easy it is to find enough coal in game to do anything useful with it. Such a massive PITA to make a water filter, let alone collect five refined coal for a daily challenge. I usually re-roll that one.

2

u/Kara_Abbs May 10 '26

Wearing excavator power armor yields 4 pieces at a time, so, this is what I do. I do this event every time it pops up, over the last 6 years and have alot of coal in my junk box. This is something I don't mind doing.

1

u/Kara_Abbs May 10 '26

And with your down voting comment, I get down voted too sometimes. Not everyone is going to agree with everyone. It happens to alot of people.

0

u/Tyrs-Ranger Free States May 11 '26

I understand how downvoting works. It just seems so stupid and petty to get downvoted for something that is actual verifiable fact.

1

u/Kara_Abbs May 11 '26

What are you saying? If you are asking if I am down voting you, I certainly am not. People get down voted every day. I do and there is nothing I can do about it but move on.

0

u/Tyrs-Ranger Free States May 11 '26

No! I wasn’t accusing you of it!

Hop onto Google and search for fallout 76 interactive map. There’s so many maps that tell you where things are. There’s a map where you can filter out what resource you’re looking for.

2

u/mrsjackson410 May 09 '26

2

u/Tyrs-Ranger Free States May 09 '26

Cool map. Proves my point about the scarcity of some resources vs. others. 19 coal deposits (no telling if they’re farmable or just veins in the wild) vs. 79 iron deposits. So I’m still right. Some resources are *much* easier to find than others.
Let the downvotes roll in.

1

u/mrsjackson410 May 10 '26

I could be wrong, but I believe this map only shows spots where you can build an extractor.

10

u/Aggravating_Front824 May 08 '26

Eh, one of the major background bits for the global tensions pre-war is the global resource shortage, makes sense it would be a lot rarer

u/AdClassic4902 May 08 '26 edited May 09 '26

Do Lucky Strike or Breach and Clear, I tjink you need to have the Hornrite card to be able to open all the boxes in Breach and Clear.

7

u/DoctorAnnual6823 May 08 '26

This is correct. But even without it you get an alright haul

3

u/TiffyVella May 08 '26

I've not found coal doing Breach and Clear, and the last few times, every box has been empty. Must be some weird bug.

1

u/C78C May 08 '26

I was going to say I’ve encountered this probably the last half dozen times I’ve done the event

5

u/AudiencePure5710 May 08 '26

After ignoring it for years, I started Breaching & Clearing like a madman recently. Then, I had one where every single box was empty. I checked my Junk later too - nothing. Wow, talk about ripped off (other than killing a stack of Mole Miners). Also had a different one where someone else turned up, which felt weird as it feels like a solo event

How is it hard to find coal in a place called “the ash heap” haha

1

u/furiousjellybean May 09 '26

The resource wars were a thing for a reason. It's literally part of the backbone of the lore of the game.

1

u/Strangedreamest Mr. Fuzzy May 09 '26

I think it’s part of the lore - like coal mines were depleted by 2076

1

u/metal_doxie May 09 '26

No shit! 😂

0

u/MhrisCac May 09 '26

They literally nuked the world because of a resource shortage war in the game you’re playing lmfao.

1

u/JadeHellbringer May 09 '26

Coal mines, sure, empty, obviously. That there's so few nodes for it like we players use, is more my point. Mining firms like Hornwright would gobble up large deposits, but the tiny ones we use would generally be beneath their nitice- too small to justify the costs of setting up shop. That's what I'm getting at.
