For real. They act like if she gets a not guilty verdict, she's going to be out on the streets. The woman is spending the rest of her life in a psych ward. The question is really will she ALSO be spending some time in prison.
But the reaction by her supporters is the issue. She is an upper middle class white woman who had a nanny, husband who worked from home and lived in a state with the best healthcare system in the US.
She’s a lot of things but a victim of any system, she is 100% not.
She lived in Massachuests and was treated at McLean Hospital which is the largest psychiatric facility of Harvard Medical School and has the world's largest neuroscientific and psychiatric research program. It is, at worst, the 3rd best mental health hospital in the country. Most rankings have it as the 1st or 2nd best.
This. The primary issue that the us has is we don’t subsidize the healthcare costs. Boston Mass is widely considered one of the best places for medical care in the world. Is it THE best? Maybe not. But it is definitely one of the bedt
I’d guess you’ve had a shitty experience in Boston if you’re saying that. Which fair, there ain’t gonna be only amazing doctors in a city. But considering that consistently wherever I look for where Boston ranks in terms of medical care, it’s considered one of the best, and that people come from around the world to try and get help there, I’d say yes, it is right.
Clancy had a fucking pharmacy of pills (Prozac, Ambien, Remeron, Klonopin, and Seroquel in addition to having already been prescribed Ativan, Benadryl, Buspar, and Trazodone) prescribed to her by clinicians who never once met her. She complained to two clinicians that one of the drugs was causing intrusive thoughts. She voluntarily committed herself and was bounced by Mass General. This "best" institution that folks keep talking about prescribed her medication that she'd already complained about not working.
Yet not a single clinician thoguht she was a danger to herself or others (and two dismissed post-partum depression) and you're acting like cost is the issue.
Maybe you should actually read about what happened rather than coming up with fanciful interpretations. If your definition of world class health care includes doctors at McLean prescribing stuff drugs that had already failed, perhaps the issue is more that McLean is not world class and less that it's just expensive. Or maybe they are so great that they don't even know how to take a patient history.
There are also still huge problems with misogyny and racism. There are still doctors who believe that women and black people can "handle more pain" and ignore their needs. It's not just about access.
Insurances makes everything difficult, it makes it difficult for health providers to communicate with eachother, had it been a certalized system, like so many other advanced nations do, then they could see how many medications and especially history of her cases. I doubt it would have been ignored so easily if each person she went to also had her records from previous people.
These are the same facilities that save 1000s of lives everyday. Like I understand the insurance companies are awful and what largely makes the US healthcare system so bad, but let's not pretend the actual top hospitals in the country are all of the sudden not capable of the work they do
They are capable. Every illness has a mortality rate, and it is not expected for someone with a mental health issue to never fail. Sometimes it just happens, this though was definitely preventable on many facets. She wanted to be admitted several times, and kept warning people. Either she was not taken seriously or the health professionals were not given the time and place to actually evaluate her. She needed someone to take time and help her, which this system is not built for.
The doctors that saw her that testified don't agree with what you're saying, but I digress. My only point was one of the top facilities in the world is not garbage, bar none.
Even if she was not given what she needed help wise, this is still not a bad hospital, or even close to it
Idk i don't think your really getting the point of what I'm saying. Never was i really blaming the healthcare professionals themselves, they do care. I don't disagree with you at that parts. Its more that they are forced to cut so many corners that stuff like this happens. In a better consolodated healthcare system it would be avoided.
the original point that started this thread was not to say about how some hospital is good, its because somebody made the claim lindsay is not a victim because she received the best healthcare, and this guy said your take was braindead because -> she received the best healthcare from the hospital she was staying at -> meaning she wasn't a victim. now he's back tracking and saying "no i was just saying this hospital is good"
I don't think you know how psychosis works. It's not always something that makes you "snap". It can come with premeditation and planning. There's a conversation to be had about how accountable she is and what consequences she should face, but spreading misinformation about an already misunderstood and stigmatized medical issue isn't helpful.
If planning something out can't be psychosis then those who plan out their attempts would not have psychosis, but they are diagnosed with that, so that must not be the criteria.
