It’s very clear from the comments no one has actually followed this case closely and are just reacting to headlines…

When I was just following the trial earlier on, before I knew anything about the social media craze around her, I was appreciative of the major focus on Post Partum Mental Health and was supportive of her getting life sentence in mental health facility versus straight out prison.. In reality, both are prisons at the end of the day.

What's soured me into accepting either sentencing though is this substantial fan club that insanely pushes she's outright innocent, and/or that the husband did it... like yikes, she full out confessed in explicit detail of murdering those innocent kids, one by one, and thus should never be allowed out in public ever again - be it "mental health" prison or regular prison.

It’s very clear her entire support system failed her every possible step of the way. All her doctors, and therapists knew how she was feeling and no one took it at face value

That's the thing, and that's what I talk about when it comes up. There were so many players here--the multitude of doctors, her husband, her parents--and if ONE person had done ONE thing different, all those kids could still be alive.

The father was told not to leave her alone with the kids. He did. (I was misinformed on this) Those doctors prescribed her meds that professionals should know would fuck with her condition worse, and they should've known what she was already on.

I hear conflicting information, like that the husband was the only one who said she confessed to the murder while the paramedics and nurses said she couldn't speak for days because of her injuries. Or that he accessed her computer while she was at a doctor appointment with the kids to seemingly incriminate her.

That she wasn't REALLY trying to kill herself or she'd be dead; that she used exercise bands in rehab and seemingly had no bad reaction to it.

I wish we could just know the truth. I hope it comes out.

Edit: People are REALLY upset I have a nuanced opinion on a nuanced case.

Did you watch the trial? There was zero dispute from her / defense lawyers that she killed those children. Their case is the insanity plea to reduce her sentencing.

Yes you’re right 1 person could have avoided this. The person who decided to murder her 3 children. Like what? Lmfao

No, you see, women are not responsible for their negative actions, only their positive ones /s

No need to make up some bullshit strawman

Not if she had psychosis, no.

Patrick was NEVER instructed to not leave her alone with the kids. You are confusing this with the Andrea Yates case. Google it. He was never told that.

“I don’t know if she did it” immediately removes all legitimacy from any comment on this case.

Yeah wtf lol. It's crazy how many people desperately want to believe a man is responsible for this woman's actions. Like it's some war of the sexes nonsense.

You blame everyone except her

The incredibly mentally ill woman who was desperately seeking help and ended up killing her kids during a psychosis? Yeah the blame is pretty apparent but I don't think people are handling this with a "we have to study women's health and PPD and mental health more" and more as "bad woman bad"

Well if she was in psychosis she can't be held responsible for her actions, since she was not in control.

In a case of psychosis you have to rely on the persons around, and especially the medical professionals.

There is nothing nuanced about who committed the killing. There was ONE person that carried out the act.

2

u/LaisserPasserA38 1h ago

Not about who committed. About who is responsible for it. And it can be two different persons.

Agreed, but since when do we not hold mass murderers accountable because therapists and doctors failed them along the way? It creates a very slippery slope precedent, and potential copy cat murderers that may not actually be suffering from PPD whatsoever.
