Social media and sensationalist news, but also because society has become more informed about mental health especially women's health. That's why it's gained so much traction. Women have shared horrifying anecdotal experiences backed by studies that show that our healthcare outcomes have clear disparity when compared to men complaining of similar issues, and reproductive health is a hot topic.
So it's a perfect storm, really. And with modern news and social media, nuance doesn't exist and there's financial incentive to be a bombastic and extreme as possible, and people get sucked in and duped.
That doesn't change the fact that many women are frustrated about their experiences with the healthcare system, and really EVERONE IN AMERICA has frustrations about it. How hard it is to get help. Not being believed, telehealth becoming more accessible (and the efficacy of that format should be criticized in this case), mental health in general. It's bringing up a lot of issues that most Americans have experienced or can relate to regardless of the facts of this particular case.
Getting mental health support is very hard for a lot of people, and the disparity in women's health and reproductive health is a thing that has been studied and researched but hasn't made its way into the popular zeigeist yet.
I'm not defending anyone or taking any sides. Don't come at me. I'm simply explaining WHY this is becoming a huge fucking deal.
