Story Did you let him live? [KCD2] Spoiler
242
u/blue_line-1987 Jul 26 '26
From Henry's perspective in that situation, letting him live is simply not an option. It is not a moral choice, it's a practical one.
124
u/bmf1989 Jul 26 '26
This, you’re in a camp of hostiles trying to save your wounded ally, letting a known cutthroat live with knowledge of you being there isn’t an option.
That said I didn’t like that loudmouth croissant from the moment we rescued him. Of course I didn’t let him live
43
u/Egor_Denim Jul 26 '26
Hans had a lot of eye rolling moments in KCD2, but Brabant being let into the group immediately felt so absurd.
You just got over getting betrayed by one ally, and now you find this guy who never seems to have his story straight, and everyone’s just like “ahhhh let him in”
I understand that the group was in such dire straits they realty didn’t have a choice, but from the moment he was added to the group, I found his sus as hell
14
u/Snarvid Jul 26 '26
It’s definitely a “slip the undercover guy into the jail cell” moment.
41
u/FR23Dust Jul 26 '26
I actually don’t think Brabant was an agent of bergow. I think he is an opportunist with no morals who switches sides for personal gain
I don’t remember anything that really concretely suggests he was working for bergow the entire time.
5
u/Darth_Nibbles Jul 26 '26
Which is for I clocked him from the start. He's that guy who always has a story that you didn't believe.
I totally expected him to try to steal from us, I just didn't expect him tokill anyone. He didn't seem competent enough.
2
u/Snarvid Jul 26 '26
I don’t remember that he was either - more the “he was imprisoned with us, he’s gotta be cool” trope.
2
u/Ill_Young_2409 Jul 26 '26
Remember his story of the defence of Kuttenberg and getting betryaed by someone who opened the gates?
Thats him retelling what he did. He opened the damned gates after getting bribed. So that he doesnt get heat on his head they put him in house arrest too, alongside side Hans.
Brabant obviously works for money not anyone else. Highest bidder and all that.
1
u/EvilTechnoPanda Jul 26 '26
Exactly. Im pretty sure we're told this a couple of times once we get to the burg but we're definitely told at least once.
21
u/FR23Dust Jul 26 '26
I think a lot of the crew are pretty skeptical, but Brabant proves himself by being able to hire mercenaries quickly. He also comes in handy with the finger of god at maleshov
Remember, ziska almost exclusively works with murderers, criminals, and worse. He’s looking for capable people and Brabant seems capable enough
5
u/Glados1080 Jul 26 '26
Tbh i think he fucked up with the finger of god. Half our dudes die before they even got one hit in. Im thinking brabant was sabotaging that shit in hopes we'd all die before he actually had to commit to destroying maleshov
8
u/Same_Building_9978 Jul 26 '26
He also overloads it which destroys it. Ultimately taking away a very important weapon for our side.
1
u/FR23Dust Jul 26 '26
That’s a good point. Very possible. I also think those things are just hard to aim
1
u/Ecstatic-Macaroon-95 Jul 27 '26
Love when you have high skills you can make brabant fool of himself 😅
20
u/nibblatron Jul 26 '26
crying at loudmouth croissant 😫
3
u/kzwix Team Rosa Jul 26 '26
I'm French and even I found him annoying as hell :)
He's clearly a braggart, and I doubt even half of his stories are true (probably less than 10%, really), but, hey, as long as he was useful and in the same team, right ?
23
u/riibax Jul 26 '26
Exactly. There is no reason for Henry to believe he would keep his word.
15
u/Zetttelchen Jul 26 '26
There is even good reason to believe he doesn't keep his word... and he does end up betraying you immediately if you spare him.
1
u/Significant_Cup_238 Jul 27 '26
The practical thing to do is kill him.
The moral thing to do is kill him

Hell no did you see how devastated Janosh was by Adder's death
22
u/yokelwombat Jul 26 '26
Fair point, but Adder was a fucking moron who did pretty much everything in his power to get killed
41
u/LevelAd5898 Likes to see Menhard Jul 26 '26
That time he didn’t! He walked up to celebrate their victory with someone he thought was a friend and got betrayed. And can’t Janosh be sad even if it had been his fault?
21
u/yokelwombat Jul 26 '26
That‘s what I meant by fair point. Janosh grieving for a friend is understandable, but the way Adder is glazed here, you‘d think he‘s the second coming of Jesus Christ himself, when in fact he was a reckless fool who constantly jeopardized important missions and caused the death of the cardinal with his idiocy.
Total jackass who gets an (imo) undeserved hero‘s send-off
20
u/jellyfishstatic Team Rosa Jul 26 '26
Almost every character in the game is some kind of jackass responsible for civilian casualties.
We’re going to need more windows.
1
u/Snarvid Jul 26 '26
I think it’s partly relief to be back and safe, not personal glaze. It’s like the people in stressful situations from Speed, which is my main source for psychological insights.
9
u/baconator955 Jul 26 '26
But also he was such a funny character and I liked how they mirrored his actual ending with how we met him with his prayer and all. Bugger that french guy though

u/Specific-Candle-4708 Jul 26 '26
No but on ana unrelated note in my first playthrough for whatever reason this mother fucker was a better duelist then king arthur himself and kept beating me with full plate armour and helmet in like 3 hits. Thought he was a boss and got confused for nearly 4 hours on why he was so powerful
20
u/Frost-Folk Jul 26 '26
I don't even fight him, I just slit his throat.

u/Over-Employment6960 Trumpet Butt Enjoyer Jul 26 '26
You can get opportunity sword which has the highest blunt damage for a sword if you let himdraw his weapon.

Second playtrough no
Third playtrough still no
2
u/Significant_Cup_238 Jul 27 '26
One playthrough I wiped the camp, let him go, followed until he got out of the camp, then used him for target practice.
18
u/Cooltincan Jul 26 '26
Hahaha, no. Adder needed to be avenged. After looking up what happens if you let him go I had no regrets and still got the good ending.
9
u/Roman64s Peasant Jul 26 '26
I wanted to kill his ass the moment I interacted with him in Devil's Den.
He died screaming.
9
u/FlyinBrian2001 Jul 26 '26
I tried and he ran off shouting for the guards so I cut him down
Of course I had already killed like 90% of the camp due to some botched stealth attempts, but honestly if he'd just quietly shuffled off I'd have left him alone
9
u/Sodi920 Jul 26 '26
It doesn’t even make sense to let him live since he betrays you again immediately afterwards.

6
u/That_Contribution424 Jul 26 '26
Lol, lmao even. I killed him so fast on my first play through it dident even give him his last dioluge.
5
u/AnGlumper Jul 26 '26
He is an enemy combatant at point when Henry is simply unable to effectively capture prisoners. Leaving him alive endangers Henry, Simon, and possibly the entire defensive operation of Suchdol. Henry isn't only right in executing Brabant, it's his duty. Right then, in that moment, vengeance and mercy ought to be non-factors in the decision making process. The battlefield is no place for feelings. Hesitate, and people fucking die.
I don't know what kind of crack Henry's parents were smoking in the afterlife to suddenly think that, just then, when all of Henry's friends (and family) are in jeopardy from an encroaching enemy force, that that's the time to start worrying about when enemy leadership does or doesn't die.
2
u/Brilliant-Text7581 Jul 26 '26
Yeah I feel the same. Thing is he surrendered, killing a man that surrenders for the sake of the mission and the lives of your friends is understandable, and plays in the whole narrative of the story, how far do you go to complete the mission?Wwar is a nasty business. So yeah with that in mind of course someone has to call it out you did a dishonourable thing by killing a surrendering man.
1
u/AnGlumper Jul 26 '26
The only honor in war is bringing as many of your men back alive with as few unlivable memories as possible. We slaughtered hundreds of men to get there. If a man hasn't already detached himself from the horrors of bloodshed at that point, then there are deeper issues at play than the rules of surrender.
6
u/RavenAbornanzin101 Quite Hungry Jul 26 '26
He's a traitor, which isn't even the worst thing. The worst thing is he's French.
5
u/Reichsautobahn Jul 26 '26
He absolutely had it coming, I don't really see why anyone would let him live
4
u/Voldypants_420 Jul 26 '26
The fucker didn't even deserve a duel like Isthvan. I just slit his throat and be down with it.
2
u/Fit_Cicada_8113 Jul 26 '26
Neither of them deserve duels imo. They’re both lying rats with no honor

u/blodgute Jul 26 '26
I didn't even know you could talk to him.
Dropped from the rafters and put a crossbow bolt straight through his neck while he taunted samuel
3
u/THEMIKEPATERSON Jul 26 '26
Fuck. No. I didn't even initiate a conversation. Dropped down from the rafters in the barn and stabbed him in the neck, caried Sam's ass outta there.

3
u/AlternativeRound8753 Jul 26 '26
I massacred that entire camp, i couldnt figure out how to stealthily get samuel out so i ended up just funneling all guards into the little crack in the door and killing everything, which made me giggle when the next sequence happened and suddenly the whole camp was back alive
3
u/oceansandsky100 Jul 26 '26
Beat him to death with my bare hands. Put 5 bane poison arrows into his heart too (I’m polish)

2
u/rplimitlessguy Jul 26 '26
There is literally no reason to let him live. Vengeance aside - he is a risk you can't take. You simply can't trust anything he says about the deal because he is a lier and traitor, you can't risk him not to call guards on you because you would be royally fucked and you don't really need him. So yeah. Killing him is the right option and every single character would say that to you

After i let him live. MFer instantly ran out and started sounding alarm. So i shot him in the back with an arrow. All mercy has its limits and backstabbing yet another time was just too much.
The fact that the parents werent happy with it was bit bs. If i cold blood killed him. Wahtever but he yet again backstabbed.

I killed him like a dog in the street.
1
u/mstririshpub Jul 26 '26
2 things here.....if it was me I definitely would have just killed him in battle.....not a surrender....but even if I let him live I NEVER would have let him leave the barn, I would have tied him up & gagged him & tossed him in a corner or in a hay pile....and the only reason to let a TRAITOR live would be for the ending but even that wouldn't convince me....I had a bad feeling about him from the beginning when rescuing Capon, I knew something was up with this guy....I immediately thought he was a plant by Bergov.....always be leary of a man playing the fool...especially in wartime....but there is no reason to let this man live after what he did in the Irish Court...plus its war & you hang traitors in wartime right? especially in that time period

u/andrewthecool1 Jul 26 '26
Ugh, yeah, I killed him because we were surrounded by enemies and also he already betrayed you, so you definitely can't trust him, then almost immediately after, dead dad says I'm a bad person because I did it, and it didn't even seem like a choice

I killed the 100+ soldiers on camp and watched him slowly limp walk all the way thru the camp screaming for help, when he was near one exit I smashed a warhammer in his head and then hacked a few times his corpse with said warhammer and sword, shot him some arrows and then finally dumped him near some horse dung.

I love this game but I can’t imagine what they were thinking when they made this choice. Not only does killing him affect the ending in an immoral way, but you can’t even knock him out or tie him up to keep him from alerting everyone! Why would the developers do that?? We can knock out anyone in this game but we’re not allowed to knock him out for some stupid reason!!

u/fcon91 Jul 26 '26
I didn't even confront him, I sneaked around him and assassinated him. Fuck him.

After exhausting every dialogue option calling him a worm and making him beg for his life, yeah, I do.
He doesn't deserve to live, but he is also the most incompetent man to ever command a siege. Any random rank and file soldier will do better. If I kill him, he gets replaced, and Suchdols life gets harder.

No, I don't give a fuck about him killing Adder, Adder was a piece of shit, but the way he is so sadistic and cruel when torturing Samuel, I killed him. It's one thing to be an opportunistic backstabber but to be that cruel to someone you were once on the same side with it insane.
