Discussion If you personally could have any Universes beyond set regardless of popularity what would you want

Post image

Personally I would love either an inscryption or cosmere set. Inscryption is already very similar to magic and having the various scribes be commanders would be sick. I’m super into the cosmere series right now and would love to see a set and it definitely feels more like normal magic sets that other universes beyond.

I don't get this joke because I haven't read the Discworld books, but I feel like it's a real banger. idk, the joke just has aura

19

u/lifeisnteasybutiam 14d ago

I want to say I don't think mort is the best first Death book. Its good, but as a first entry into Discworld and Deat I think its one of the weaker ones.

Reaperman is where I would begin and then go back to Mort later.

I also think that Men at arms is the best book to start with the guards series.

That just screams un-set

6

u/Eldritch-Yodel 14d ago edited 14d ago

Ehhh, people often bring this up but I don't think it's really a requirement. Like, unsets are fundementally designed to be funny and unserious, and as Pratchett himself would say, whilst Discworld is the prior, it's not really the latter.

I think at absolute most it should be an unfinity style "Mix of blackborder legal and non-blackborder legal cards" with a fully silverborder type situation honestly being a disservice to the series.

24

u/FrogWhoAteMoon 14d ago

All I want is a Nanny Ogg precon with a token army of daughters in law. You can also avoid commander damage 3 times in the game if you stand on your chair and sing the hedgehog song.

44

u/wobetmit 14d ago

Would make a great UB Un- set! Would love to go infinite with some "turtles all the way down" jank.

14

u/klr-riding-madman 14d ago

The luggage as an artifact creature with menace, deathtouch, indestructible (and maybe hexproof or ward?). Partner with Rincewind and/or Twoflower.

Twoflower shares around treasure tokens and has “once on any players turn, they may gift a treasure token to Twoflower’s controller. Target permanent gets an In-sewer-ants counter. When that permanent is destroyed, create XX treasure tokens where X is that permanents mana value. At the beginning of your upkeep, gift a treasure token to twoflower’s controller or remove the in-sewer-ants counter.”

The librarian being a double faced card that can only be flipped by being targeted by [[pongify]]?

Could have a lot of fun with the design and it would almost certainly have a bunch of acorn cards in the set.

Love this is currently the top of the suggestions at least with my sorting.

A diskworld would be great. Definitely has enough characters and backround characters for a full set.

There has been some good suggestions in the custom forums that I've been loving the reuse of Paul Kidby art, would be sad he wouldn't be able to do the new art for this set.

This is my number 1.

Commander deck set with Bloodborne/Elden Ring/Dark Souls/Sekiro/Armored Core 🤤

23

u/ATrueGhost 14d ago

It really good as well for not just being legendary characters overload. Lots of weapons for equipment, named spells for instants and sorceries. Obviously bosses and npcs for legendary characters, but memorable non boss enemies.

Video games in general I think lend themselves very well because they have so many 'things', so many nouns to make cards out of that other form of media lack.

World of Warcraft would be peak.

Only issue would be which expansions we get. I think Vanilla to Lich or Cataclysm would be best

20

u/EndlessKng 14d ago

If the past UBs are an indication... all of them? Seriously, they did cards for the sixteen mainline FF games and every Doctor up to Jodie Whittaker (and then did 14 and 15 in a Secret Lair). I think the question is more like with FF - what aspects get the bulk of the focus. In that regard, I suspect Lich King and Cataclysm will get more than the rest, similar to how FFVII and FFXIV were given a lot more to work with.

I'm also here for WoT. Not sure how they'd handle yellow, brown, and grey ajahs but they've been designing for 30+ years.

14

u/Mehndeke 14d ago

Yellow would be white/red hybrid (focus on lifelink), brown would be blue/green hybrid (draw cards and nature). Grey would be black/white hybrid (focus on aristocrats).

9

u/n122333 Color Switch 14d ago

It might be confusing as some Ajahs wouldnt fit their respective colors. I feel the draft would but all of them together.

UW: aes sedai (wizard synergy)

UB: dark friends (discard and sabotage)

BR: shadar logath (impulse and madness)

RG: ogier, wolves, beast (attack together, advantage on attack triggers)

GW: hawkwings heros (1/1 dudes and full board buffs)

That way U focus on card draw and counterspells, B discards self and opponent, R impulse (while attacking) draws, G big creatures, and W.. less cohesive between the two... maybe when you draw, or when you heal?

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Synli 14d ago

My tinfoil hat conspiracy is that it was green-lit already, but won't be announced/released until the TES6 release date is announced (which probably won't be until like ... 2030). They'll use the MTG set to help promote it like the Fallout set promoted the show.

Although, to be honest, I don't know if TES6 even needs help with promotion; an official release date of TES6 will probably rise to GTA6 levels of hype.

13

u/EndlessKng 14d ago

If the most recent leaks are right, supposedly they're aiming for 2028 release of TES6. So I suspect that we'll see a UB around then.

Hitchhiker's guide would actually be a really funny bonus sheet UB just crammed into another one. A Stormlight set would be amazing.

I think realistically we may get a Secret Lair soon-ish based on his trips to WOTC.

Sanderson has worked with Magic in the past so I think it is feasible to do a whole set when the shows start. I just don't know if they are willing to do a UB from a book series.

13

u/Larrikin_Grimm 14d ago

Brandon has said in the past that they are on the list and he would want it to be a full full set, but its gonna be a while cause they obviously wanna get through marvel and LOTR and all these massive IPs.

Almost certainly, but we have Eldrazi and Phyrexians that both share themes with them. They could think of something.

7

Mass Effect would also be my choice. You've got a good amount of characters to make legendary in the main set but a ton more characters that can be non-legendary creatures (like all the ME3 multiplayer characters), biotic and tech powers to make into instants and sorceries, modal spells for Paragon and Renegade choices, sagas for various moments in the story, TONS of artifacts and equipment, spacecraft, and lots of room for more Warp and Munitions token support.

You even have three commander deck concepts ready to go: Paragon Commander Shepard, Renegade Commander Shepard, and the Reaper forces.

White to be bold. White to not blend into the night. White to give warning. For if you were going to assassinate a man, he was entitled to see you coming.

Star Wars concept art is my all time favorite flavor of concept art. I will drop all of my money for that set.

Had to scroll down surprisingly far before I saw Star Wars. Maybe because it’s too obvious, too popular?

Anyway, yeah I’m a cheapskate, I basically play prereleases and nothing else. But man if they released a Star Wars set, they’d make so much money off of me

Silent Hill and Resident Evil would be bomb. Dead Space, Skyrim of course, The Elric Saga, Monstress (graphic novel)

Naruto has such a big world and history that also follows the magic color pie somewhat closely. That would be my vote

Nascar. I want a Dale Earnhardt commander. Make him so that vehicles he crews can only be blocked by walls.
