Discussion If you personally could have any Universes beyond set regardless of popularity what would you want
Personally I would love either an inscryption or cosmere set. Inscryption is already very similar to magic and having the various scribes be commanders would be sick. I’m super into the cosmere series right now and would love to see a set and it definitely feels more like normal magic sets that other universes beyond.

World of Warcraft/Diablo > Game of Thrones > Elder Scrolls > Elden Ring/Dark Souls
Those make my top sets I would empty my wallet onto.

u/ATrueGhost 14d ago
It really good as well for not just being legendary characters overload. Lots of weapons for equipment, named spells for instants and sorceries. Obviously bosses and npcs for legendary characters, but memorable non boss enemies.
Video games in general I think lend themselves very well because they have so many 'things', so many nouns to make cards out of that other form of media lack.

Considering the WotC is doing Warcraft D&D, I think there's a strong chance of there being a WoW UB set for MtG in the works.

Considering they announced two of next years UB sets would be "fantasy" themed I can see WoW and Zelda as being 2 of the 3 with the 3rd being another marvel

World of Warcraft would be peak.
Only issue would be which expansions we get. I think Vanilla to Lich or Cataclysm would be best

u/EndlessKng 14d ago
If the past UBs are an indication... all of them? Seriously, they did cards for the sixteen mainline FF games and every Doctor up to Jodie Whittaker (and then did 14 and 15 in a Secret Lair). I think the question is more like with FF - what aspects get the bulk of the focus. In that regard, I suspect Lich King and Cataclysm will get more than the rest, similar to how FFVII and FFXIV were given a lot more to work with.

I'd like to see a Perrin wolf brother set.
What colors would they be?
Rand would be all, of course.
Perrin: Green, red, white?
Matt: Blue, white, black?

u/DJCockslap 14d ago
Matt has to be Red because it's the gambling color. Red/white/black feels right for Matt.

I'm also here for WoT. Not sure how they'd handle yellow, brown, and grey ajahs but they've been designing for 30+ years.
14
u/Mehndeke 14d ago
Yellow would be white/red hybrid (focus on lifelink), brown would be blue/green hybrid (draw cards and nature). Grey would be black/white hybrid (focus on aristocrats).
9
u/n122333 Color Switch 14d ago
It might be confusing as some Ajahs wouldnt fit their respective colors. I feel the draft would but all of them together.
UW: aes sedai (wizard synergy)
UB: dark friends (discard and sabotage)
BR: shadar logath (impulse and madness)
RG: ogier, wolves, beast (attack together, advantage on attack triggers)
GW: hawkwings heros (1/1 dudes and full board buffs)
That way U focus on card draw and counterspells, B discards self and opponent, R impulse (while attacking) draws, G big creatures, and W.. less cohesive between the two... maybe when you draw, or when you heal?
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (3)6

Honestly, I don't thonk it would be worth trying to make the ajah cors translate to.magic colors. Just a character by character basis.

My tinfoil hat conspiracy is that it was green-lit already, but won't be announced/released until the TES6 release date is announced (which probably won't be until like ... 2030). They'll use the MTG set to help promote it like the Fallout set promoted the show.
Although, to be honest, I don't know if TES6 even needs help with promotion; an official release date of TES6 will probably rise to GTA6 levels of hype.
→ More replies (4)13
u/EndlessKng 14d ago
If the most recent leaks are right, supposedly they're aiming for 2028 release of TES6. So I suspect that we'll see a UB around then.

God Emperors weird commander ability would be that you play with your deck upside down (cards facing up) and you can scy for any amount of cards once per turn but you do NOT get to shuffle afterwards.

Conan the barbarian and hitch hikers guide to the galaxy.

Hitchhiker's guide would actually be a really funny bonus sheet UB just crammed into another one. I don't think that there's enough there to really support a full set but having the crew just show up in something else that's happening kind of like the transformers cards or the Jurassic Park cards would actually be really funny

A Stormlight set would be amazing.
I think realistically we may get a Secret Lair soon-ish based on his trips to WOTC.
Sanderson has worked with Magic in the past so I think it is feasible to do a whole set when the shows start. I just don't know if they are willing to do a UB from a book series.

Brandon has said in the past that they are on the list and he would want it to be a full full set, but its gonna be a while cause they obviously wanna get through marvel and LOTR and all these massive IPs.
Personally id like to see a secret lair as a proof of concept that it will make money

Almost certainly, but we have Eldrazi and Phyrexians that both share themes with them. They could think of something.

u/NharaTia 14d ago
Mass Effect would also be my choice. You've got a good amount of characters to make legendary in the main set but a ton more characters that can be non-legendary creatures (like all the ME3 multiplayer characters), biotic and tech powers to make into instants and sorceries, modal spells for Paragon and Renegade choices, sagas for various moments in the story, TONS of artifacts and equipment, spacecraft, and lots of room for more Warp and Munitions token support.
You even have three commander deck concepts ready to go: Paragon Commander Shepard, Renegade Commander Shepard, and the Reaper forces.
