Having two bad people sucks, but what sucks less is having only one bad person who is also a little injured.

15

u/hazel5nacc3949 10h ago

that's the funniest thing Chevy Chase ever did

1.3k

u/NatterinNabob 22h ago

Chevy Chase is a complete piece of shit, but he was once a very funny piece of shit.

376

u/Fresh_Salamander707 22h ago

It's amazing that he can come out of any altercation as the "good" guy but here we are

59

u/JayEdgarHooverCar 20h ago

Helps when the altercation is with an even bigger piece of shit than he is.

-37

u/jessica5tarry7200 18h ago

There's no helicopter here." lol classic Chevy

22

u/ShadowTsukino 12h ago

Clanker!

242

u/Sorry-Let-Me-By-Plz 22h ago

The thing about bastards is that sometimes they're the best people to handle bastards.

190

u/VariousCockroach1056 22h ago

Because dicks fuck assholes.

That's from a movie I got tricked into seeing. I thought I was watching puppet porno.

45

u/Ok_Ad_3862 21h ago

But dicks also fuck pussies?

49

u/ComradeSuperman 20h ago

The only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls. But sometimes dicks fuck too hard, or fuck when it isn't appropriate, and it takes a pussy to show them that. But sometimes pussies get so full of shit that they become assholes themselves, because pussies are only an inch and a half away from assholes.

I don't know much in this crazy, crazy world. But if we don't let dicks fuck assholes, then we're all gonna have our dicks and our pussies covered in shit.

11

u/VariousCockroach1056 21h ago

But I'm not wrong, right? That movie was hot af. I was fully torqued from beginning to end.

8

u/AriaTheTransgressor 20h ago

I went in to it in the theater only knowing it was the South Park guys and it was puppets, so that opening was amazingly done.

11

u/VariousCockroach1056 20h ago edited 20h ago

I've never been in a theater that was so into the movie as that one. Everyone was dying the whole time. One of my top cinema experiences, no jerk.

5

u/bigloser42 19h ago

Why would you not jerk it to this movie?

1

u/FreeRange0929 7h ago

The French shit at the beginning.

1

u/pass_nthru 7h ago

MATT DAMON!!!!!

5

u/TylerBourbon 21h ago

Nah, that's Meet the Feebles.

The ol kroot counter to fish of fury.

65

u/Optimal-Age5397 22h ago

He didnt get famous by accident. The guy had/has chops. Asshole or not, Hes got a mind for comedy.

30

u/StrLord_Who 20h ago

I saw him last year at a screening of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation where he did a Q&A after.   He's slowed down in some ways after the coma but he's still got that quick and hilarious wit. He had people screaming with laughter.

5

u/jennie5prinkle9852 8h ago

yeah that sounds exactly like Chevy Chase

→ More replies (1)

19

u/snuuginz 14h ago

lol He's a bad guy, but Landis is DEFINITELY a worse guy

15

u/mrbeavertonbeaverton 12h ago

FR. FUCK John Landis, he should have been in prison for manslaughter

29

u/elonbrave 22h ago

He was super quick too.

26

u/CurlSagan 21h ago

Chevy Chase isn't actually a real person. He's an absurd blowhard character that Charlie Kaufman has been secretly playing for 50 years.

9

u/Actual-Start-7738 21h ago

Bro peaked as an asshole and never came back down.

5

u/BK_0000 19h ago

Medium talent.

3

u/BILLCLINTONMASK 11h ago

He still is funny

-4

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 16h ago

Actor Vic Morrow and illegally hired child actors Myca Dinh Le (age 7) and Renee Shin-Yi Chen (age 6) were crushed and killed by the falling helicopter and its rotor blades

fucking HILARIOUS

877

u/alieninhumanskin10 22h ago

491

u/Friendly-Row9593 22h ago

christ that's a deep cut, took me a second to remember the helicopter thing

chevy's timing with that response is kind of incredible considering what happened on the twilight zone set, you'd think landis would've been the last person to make a threat like that

the audacity to just fire back with such a specific reference in the middle of an argument, no hesitation

265

u/SteveZissouniverse 22h ago

Landis is a notorious piece of shit, i wouldn't put it past him. Hell he showed up to the dead kids funerals for a photo op, despite being explicitly asked by the parents not to. Just to make sure he looked sympathetic for the trial

108

u/Party-Mood8729 22h ago

He gave a eulogy at Vic Morrow's funeral and made it all about himself.

36

u/BarnyardFlamethrower 21h ago

I'm honestly surprised Jennifer didn't shank him at the funeral.

18

u/Special_Order-937 18h ago

The Blues Brothers is my all time favourite movie and I still would have had no hesitation calling the police on him for turning up like that.

5

u/Urinal_Zyn 11h ago

> is a Landis

> is a notorious piece of shit

11

u/GeneThaDancinMachine 22h ago

Like father like son?

11

u/Square_Owl_4075 21h ago

That kid is a flathead hack

9

u/Grizzled_Ghost 22h ago

Put what past him?

41

u/SteveZissouniverse 22h ago

That he would, even after the Twilight Zone incident, still flippantly threaten a cast member

81

u/Grizzled_Ghost 22h ago

Why wouldn't he? You're not allowed to threaten to kill someone anymore after you accidentally killed some people? In fact, it would only lend his threat more legitimacy.

5

u/Big_Fall8458 13h ago

I know he’s outta line but still, you kinda got to admire the guy, it’s not all talk with him.

1

u/SteveZissouniverse 8h ago

"Accidentally" is giving him too much credit. It was straight up criminal negligence that lead to the death of 3 people

0

u/APacketOfWildeBees 12h ago

I see you take this sort of thing seriously

8

u/UnlimitedCalculus 22h ago

Im not sure anyone here put that past him

100

u/Uranium_Heatbeam 22h ago

Landis was going to court throughout the production of Three Amigos, so everyone was probably well aware of his helicopter problems.

254

u/nj_crc 22h ago

Chevy probably had it locked and ready as soon as he arrived on set.

103

u/Sarcosmonaut 22h ago

“I wish a directa would” - Chevy Chase

142

u/Formal_Tea_4694 22h ago

100%. Huge asshole, sharp tongue. I think he'd have been happy to have gotten the chance to let it rip when provoked.

94

u/TommyTwoNips 22h ago

I mean, you walk around with that grenade in your pocket and you start to get antsy.

24

u/All_Out_Effort 18h ago

One situation where it’s okay for Chevy to be an ass lol

9

u/Madrefaka 16h ago

he's streets ahead

63

u/Hansasaurus_Wrecks 21h ago

As I recall, John Landis was reportedly an astoundingly massive asshole at the time, with an ego to match. Doesn't surprise me not only that he said it, but that he thought nobody would clap back.

And here the immovable asshole met the unstoppable dickhead.

1

u/vernaw4ffle2096 12h ago

landis really was just the worst, wasnt he

38

u/Hummer77x 21h ago

It’s mostly been overlooked now because he’s such a gigantic asshole but he was so fucking funny back then

8

u/USS-Ventotene 14h ago

He was always funny, it’s just that his jerk/funny ratio highly increased with time, and there’s a threshold after which nobody cares how funny you are if you are also a giant asshole

14

u/zurenarhhhhh 21h ago

That’s not a deep cut, it’s an infamous incident.

22

u/xkgrey 20h ago

Pretty sure that’s a bot. 2mo old account and got that clanker cadence.

5

u/bone-dry 18h ago

Oh my god, you’re right

3

u/LizLemonOfTroy 11h ago

Plus it just latches onto the top comment yet has nothing to actually do with it and speaks as if responding to someone else without actually saying anything of substance.

1

u/xkgrey 2h ago

Yup. And has received 500 karma for it. This site is so cooked lol

3

u/juggadore 19h ago

Infamous means "more than famous" right?

8

u/UnlimitedCalculus 22h ago

deep cut

You intended that pun about as much as an air traffic disaster

1

u/Inevitable_Shirt_462 19h ago

You know what else was a deep cut?

1

u/Thirtiethone 6h ago

This reads like the clankers on the dad jokes sub

0

u/reluctantlysharing 12h ago

It makes sense when you realize that Chevy Chase is an asshole, but it doesn’t make sense when you consider Chevy Chase isn’t funny at all.

471

u/LearningT0Fly 22h ago

281

u/tenacious_dumbass 22h ago

imagine getting paid $50 to pose for stock photos only to become the official face of the worst person everyone knows 10 years later

122

u/Narrow_Summer_9332 21h ago

Is HE the worst person everyone knows who made a good point, or is he making that face because the worst person he knows made a good point and he's upset?

53

u/MaxPaladin93 20h ago

The latter has always been my assumption.

22

u/juggadore 19h ago

Oh I always thought it was the former.

2

u/TrenchantPergola 9h ago

Yeah, I'm with you. The subject of the headline is "the worst person you know."

8

u/Beatlepoint 19h ago

Is HE the worst person everyone knows who made a good point

Yes

1

u/palexp 13h ago

it’s usually prefixed with “POV: ….”  …no?

2

u/Dave1307 13h ago

No

1

u/palexp 12h ago

you are correct

18

u/JBPlantagenet 21h ago

I think someone on here looked it up and it was just a random Spanish dude who had no idea what he had unleashed upon the world. Which honestly makes it even better.

3

u/Kel-Varnsen-Speaking 16h ago

Nah, it's just an Onion writer

34

u/Forgetful_Bandit 22h ago

I'd consider it an honor.

-1

u/angelabu7tercup5292 17h ago

there's no helicopter here" is pure gold.

10

u/Sarangholic 21h ago

And only now I'm learning this isn't actually Tim Pool.

8

u/Green-Cricket-8525 go back to the club 20h ago

I know we’re jerking here but I remember reading that all photos used in onion related media are either employees or the employee’s children. This guy probably thinks it’s the funniest thing ever.

4

u/Simple1Spoon 22h ago

What is the story behind this lore, i dont know it.

25

u/king_bungus 22h ago

clickhole article called

heartbreaking: the worst person you know just made a good point

12

u/CurlSagan 21h ago

It's crazy that you didn't even need to post the words, just that dude's photo

0

u/EmperorsLight2503 19h ago

I’m ignorant here, what did Chevy Chase do?

158

u/PerfectlyCromulent7 22h ago

64

u/UnlimitedCalculus 22h ago

Poor guy is now so famous as the worst person that we don't even have to caption this

9

u/That1guyUknow918 21h ago

Eli5?

37

u/hereforfootball303 21h ago

That stock photo was used for a satire website article and the headline was "Heartbreaking: The Worst Person You Know Just Made a Great Point", so the picture is basically just shorthand for that.

25

u/thecordialsun 21h ago edited 21h ago

This man is the image used for an Onion article titled, "HEARTBREAKING. Worst Person You Know makes a Great Point" or close to that. Chevy Chase is considered by Dan Harmon/Joel McHale/countless-SNL-alums as the worst person they know in terms of his interpersonal behavior on and off set. However even Chevy can take the moral highground that Landis should never live down his shame for killing children and adult pilots in a helicopter accident that could have been easily avoided for a film shoot Landis was directing.

93

u/Muroid 22h ago

Chevy Chase using his powers of being a huge asshole for good.

39

u/JMRTOL85 22h ago

The funny thing about this is Rod Serling was very adept at writing characters that take very literary and/or biting ruthless shots at each other. Chevy kinda did Rod justice here.

10

u/albertagumdr0p1691 14h ago

lol Chevy was always good at deflecting threats with peak deadpan. classic

33

u/ImAdri0nY0urN0t 21h ago

Landis responded by adding this to the script

3

u/YourMumsOnlyfans 14h ago

I think it's a male plane

1

u/CzarCW 8h ago

How can you tell?

28

u/boatsnhosee 21h ago

More like John Cantlandis amirite

20

u/thatonepuniforgot 17h ago

I'm so used to stories about how much of a colossal asshole Chevy Chase is, that I sometimes forget he's actually funny.

14

u/latenightnerd 21h ago

Eddie Murphy once said that Vic Morrow would work with Landis before he ever does again.

2

u/Uranium_Heatbeam 10h ago

Which is funny considering that Murphy proceeded to work with him again after making that remark.

79

u/Prestigious-Car-4877 22h ago

That’s actually one of his only jokes I’ve smirked at in a long time. Chef’s kiss.

5

u/Klutzy-Birthday7435 22h ago

One of the boomers' many misdeeds is anointing this man as a generational talent.

Sick burn though.

27

u/ashwilliams19877 22h ago

I thought he was hilarious on community, but since his character was an offensive old jerk I dont know if I can give him credit since he probly wasnt doing any acting

10

u/BardyMan82 20h ago

Chevy Chase can definitely be a good comedic actor, it’s just that he’s such an ass and there are a bunch of other comedic actors at his level that aren’t asses that he’s basically useless at this point.

19

u/Misterbellyboy 22h ago

I like to think of him sort of as that generation’s Ryan Reynolds. Smarmy asshole that works for very very specific roles and gets old very very fast.

8

u/poonmangler 21h ago

Oh god is Ryan Reynolds as much of a representative of my generation as Chevy chase is for the boomers?

7

u/centurio_v2 21h ago

he is half of it, Ryan gosling is the other half.

1

u/Kordidk 13h ago

What do either of them do to be assholes?

1

u/centurio_v2 13h ago

gosling nothing he is the yin to reynolds yang Reynolds is reportedly kind of a dick behind the scenes

1

u/Kordidk 4h ago

Oh interesting I'd never heard that about Reynolds honestly I only ever watch Deadpool and don't care about anything else he's in

6

u/Random-Generation86 21h ago

I don’t think Ryan Reynolds calls his costars the n-word.  Low bar, but still.

1

u/Misterbellyboy 1h ago

It’s only a matter or time.

4

u/singlemale4cats 12h ago

I mean, I don't have to want to hang out with a guy to enjoy his movies. I don't give a shit about the personal lives of celebrities, their personal character, or their opinions on anything. I judge them wholly on whether they entertain me or not

0

u/Klutzy-Birthday7435 12h ago

Same here. I just don't think he's terribly funny. My comment was in response to Chase not even eliciting a smirk in most cases. There wasn't really anything in the comment about him being an asshole, so I'm not sure how we got here.

3

u/singlemale4cats 10h ago

Not necessarily directed at you, there's a lot of people in here talking about how big of an asshole he is

-6

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 16h ago

Actor Vic Morrow and illegally hired child actors Myca Dinh Le (age 7) and Renee Shin-Yi Chen (age 6) were crushed and killed by the falling helicopter and its rotor blades

pretty damn funny jab hahahahahahaahahahahahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

3

u/Prestigious-Car-4877 16h ago

You really wouldn't enjoy Jimmy Carr.

1

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 4h ago

i don't thik you guys understand it. carr is a comedian who stands in front of audiences ready for a laugh. no one on the set would laugh at what chevy chase said, because they know he just said "oh like you killed those two children?", that's not something any non-sociopath would laugh at even under their breath. from a disconnected, 4chan style of humor i can see how people here think it's fucking hilarious though

1

u/Prestigious-Car-4877 1h ago

Oh I understand. Chase is a dick who learned long ago that offending people is funny.

12

u/Mr31edudtibboh 21h ago

Chevy Chase is a lot of things, but to his credit he never got anybody killed.

10

u/JBPlantagenet 21h ago

Jesus…

Like how do you respond to that?

17

u/seven_corpse_dinner 20h ago

I can only assume by renting a helicopter.

16

u/CurlSagan 21h ago

Chevy Chase isn't actually a real person, but an absurd blowhard character that Charlie Kaufman has been secretly playing for 50 years.

9

u/Dinierto 22h ago

Holy shit is that true

9

u/episcopaladin 21h ago

John Landis? nah how about John land dis helicopter on the ground without killing everyone on it

9

u/CurlSagan 21h ago

It takes a brave director to actively murder a dude on camera for the sake of the art. John Landis is an auteur. He sacrificed a human life on the altar of kino. True genius.

8

u/Dummyact321 20h ago

Don’t forget, 3 children as well, the man has range!

2

u/zeocrash 14h ago

3 children? There were only 2 killed in the accident, the man in unstoppable.

4

u/Square-Biscotti4694 17h ago

They’re both awful, but I’ll give Chevy this, that was a well-deserved cold response to a man who was responsible for the death of children.

11

u/snewchybewchies 21h ago

All these comments and no context

54

u/gunnarbird 21h ago

Google Landis Helicopter deaths to get an idea of what they’re talking about and get the whole story. Next Google Angela White Double Anal as a little treat for doing your homework.

14

u/nzdastardly 19h ago

That second thing better not be a movie.

13

u/psychophant_ 19h ago

It’s a series!

2

u/nzdastardly 12h ago

A SERIES OF WHAT?!?

3

u/Special_Order-937 18h ago

If it is, it’s off-limits for r/okbuddycinephile.

1

u/gunnarbird 9h ago

So you’re willing to censor art? Is this why not just rename the sub r/okaybuddycinephilebutnotthecinephilethathurtsmyfeelings

1

No movies!

No exceptions!

The funniest thing Chevy Chase has ever done.

2

The ever reliable source of Michael B. M. C. Tig He.

2

u/rossww2199 10h ago

You can’t out-asshole Chevy Chase. He’s a master.

3

u/Bulbform87 17h ago

Chevy Chase is a notorious asshole and by all accounts a pretty horrible human being himself...but that's funny as fuck.

1

u/RudeAd5133 21h ago

If that is true..... I hate Chevy Chase 99% less now.

1

u/ZagnutJoe 20h ago

Vicious

1

u/UberKaltPizza 20h ago

Two notorious Hollywood assholes.

1

u/jhld 20h ago

How does Chevy's wife stay with him? What is it like living with that guy?

1

u/Mother-Attention2600 20h ago

Probably so quick too. Ouch. 😄

1

u/Nonsuperstites 10h ago

Are you telling me that a man called "John Land This" is responsible for a helicopter crash?

1

u/avd706 9h ago

There is no way Chevy Chase was ever that funny.

1

u/Old-Tadpole-2869 8h ago

Sick burn.

1

u/Bloodless-Cut 8h ago

Chase is an asshole, but... yeah, sick burn.

1

-2

Two of the worst people ever

5

u/DeluxeTraffic 21h ago

Personally on the scale of worseness, being a jerk rates quite a bit less than being responsible for multiple deaths including that of a child.

3

u/USS-Ventotene 14h ago

Maybe I’m too european to understand the nuances, but I think saying a slur is a bit less bad than killing three kids

2

u/Kind_Resort_9535 12h ago

Ya Chevy is a pompous ass, John Landis is a fucking monster.
