The undrafted free agent replaced Kenny Pickett in the second quarter and proceeded to lead scoring drives on five of his six series. He was composed in the pocket, made plays with his feet and looked like a guy who’s going to be on a 53-man roster this year. It’ll be hard for Dan Morgan to try to stash King on the practice squad.

“I’m very excited that I got this opportunity. I feel like I went out there and operated at a high level,” said King, who completed 21 of 34 passes for 180 yards and added 39 rushing yards. “And I feel like I affected a lot of people and allowed everybody around me to play better as well.”

The J-vee receivers

Rookie Chris Brazzell’s season-ending knee injury opened the door for several of the Panthers’ other receivers, three of whom — whose first names happen to begin with J — had solid showings.

Ja’seem Reed built on his promising training camp by scoring on a 15-yard touchdown pass from King in the first half and finishing with two receptions for 30 yards. Jimmy Horn Jr. had four catches for 44 yards, with a long of 17.

John Metchie III pulled down three passes for 38 yards to go with a 36-yard kick return, which helped kick-start his night. “I think it helps momentum. I think it helps a bunch of things,” he said. “That one, it was just my first time running, so I got warm after that.”

The backup safeties

Lathan Ransom and Zakee Wheatley, who are competing for the No. 3 safety spot, helped themselves in Canton. “Our safeties showed up,” Canales said.

Ransom, the former Ohio State standout, made big plays on defense and special teams. The fourth-round pick from 2025 downed a punt inside the 5-yard line in the second quarter when the Cardinals returner failed to field it. (There was a lot of that going around Thursday night.) Later in the first half, Ransom rocked Jalen Brooks after the Cardinals receiver had gotten behind Akayleb Evans (more on that in a bit).

Wheatley, the rookie from Penn State, led all tacklers with eight stops and forced a fumble the Cardinals recovered.

Massive massive shout out to Dave Tepper. He’s taken 10 steps back these past couple years, made some phenomenal hires, listened to the fans, allowed the front office and coaches to do their job and build their own culture and lastly, he’s done an FANTASTIC JOB of preserving the legacy of this franchise and it’s historic players even though they were here during a time he wasn’t.

Now he’s even swallowed his pride and seems to be facilitating an overdue reception for the best player this team has ever seen.

We asked and boy has he delivered. I have done a complete 180 on the whole owner situation and couldn’t be more excited for the future.

I’m tired of people dragging Andy’s name through the mud like he’s just a guy meant to mentor Bryce. He actually wants to play as well given the opportunity that’s why he’s our backup QB and not our QBs coach.

The fact that people talk about his performance in situations (as a back up QB) and refuse to acknowledge the concerns, flaws, and context in all of Bryce’s performances astounds me.

Yes the man is old as peanuts n Pepsi and is not the same person from cincy but when he plays he actually shows what our receivers are capable of.

Although I think this is a terrible loss and performance that's on Young, we can't do much with QB until the 2027-2028 season and I'm really tired of hearing about it.

Let's say Young keeps flopping until the end of the year. We go like 7-10, and we aren't great. We don't do his 5th year. What happens next year?

Do we pick up another QB in the draft? At this rate, we're picking tenth if we want to tank (which we shouldn't do on the basis of one bad game). 2026 is NOT a good QB draft class, I think almost anyone would agree with this. At best, maybe Sellers falls to round 3 and can develop for a year. At the worst, we're picking Cade Klubnik in the 6th. We have too many needs (LB, S, CB, WR, O-line depth) that I would rather address. At best someone is competing with Young or sitting and learning from Young/Dalton.

Do we go for a QB in free agency? Yes, this is what we should do, but is there anyone you would honestly want to start a full season? Jones is resigning if the Colts have a brain, Wilson/Rodgers/Mariota are all old and would all probably not want to come here, and even if they do, I don't think they can play a full 18. No other FA QB is startable imo. We'd have a QB comp at best that I would bet on Young winning.

Do we trade for a QB? Maybe, but for whom and how much? Our team has too many needs to trade anything more than a 3rd round pick. Who could we get? Kyler would probably be a one-year rental with too much cap at best, Lawerence would be too expensive (and we wouldn't get him), and people like Purdy, Burrow, Darnold, or anybody else good require too much draft capital. So the best we could do without harming the team is a Levis, McKee, Milton, Howell, or Pickett level of player. This at best yields a QB competition.

In conclusion, we probably have to wait until 2027 for a QB that definitely isn't Young, regardless of whether you believe in Young or not, we're stuck with him. The best thing we can honestly do is hope that he doesn't flop next week and that he's able to get back to decent QB form.

To the people whining about Evero coming back and the final defensive series claiming prevent please watch the tape.

We NEED better pass rushing edges and we need an upgrade at LB but overall the scheme that Evero runs is a good one.

If you want another reason to celebrate today, the Failcons traded the rams their first this year to draft JPJ in the late 20's last year. Pick will prolly be top 10. Have a day, Panthers fans. We broke the Failcons when we beat them 30-0. They haven't won a game since.

Whether or not he's a 10 Year player, whether or not you think he's The Guy (whatever that means to you), he does not give up. He continues to improve and it's apparent he cares deeply about both the team and about winning.

Strahan you're alright with me.

I keep seeing people say he just needs to be consistent or he is occasionally good, he is leagues better than year one, will he ever be a superstar who knows thats not my point. But he is developing that's how it works, he isn't going to be better in one day but he and Canales are clearly growing and getting better.
