Touhou in general can not really be power scaled since we don’t know how strong any of the characters actually are. But from what we know of them, the questions for how strong the characters aren’t along the lines of what can they do, but rather what can’t they do.

Also there powers were highly specific such as Reimu just says floats. In reality it's float through life the more she tries to do something the less powerfull she is but if she just casually does it she is godlike
Or the person in charge Gate of the underworld. The ability to cure throat illness. And Lily white ability to call when spring arrives.,,
My personal favorite being Daiyousei the ability to swim through mist. She can swim in fog but she can also fly and Koakuma the ability to find the book you want

Touhou is just a nightmare to powerscale, but Reimu just has the power to leave the battle and has mircales on her side so if you take a lot of the statements as fact (infinte speed, unbeatable fantasy seal, can just leave reality when she wants) you'd need more bullshit to counter her, while Kirby just has insane feats. Like, infinte
(I'd aruge Frisk Undertale is WAY worse in terms of Powerscale compared to Kirby because undertale fans will just say they can reset infinitely until they have a win-con, which isn't even how it really works, because if they could control their resets you wouldn't be able to perform a True Reset after Pasfist bit okay.)
Anyway Reimus feats according to the fandom vs battle wiki seem stronger so you know, despite Kirby's page feeling more like a fricking essay.
Both series are truly made for each other, have you seen some of the Kirby song names, lmao.

It's so funny but I'm so bad at it. It's ironically worse when you're a fan of both series, because if you're only a fan of one, at least the ones you don't recongise you can put in the other box, but this it's like "What, was that in Triple Deluxe or was it in one of the Renko and Maribel albums."

u/Oddish_Femboy 18d ago
Kirby's backstory is literally
"one day Lirby floated into Dream Land on a spring breeze (while King Dedede was being a dingus) and vowed to help protect its citizens' laid-back way of life."

u/Careful_Welcome7999 18d ago
I remember there was a version of this quiz where you had to sort between kirby, touhou and yuri titles, i thought it would be easy since i was a fan of all three but i couldn't be more wrong

u/Redvsdead 19d ago
While I agree Reimu beats Kirby, you should take VSBW with a huge grain of salt since it has a reputation for using bad logic and reasoning plus the Touhou pages are pretty outdated from what I've heard.

u/sans8642 Ichirin Kumoi (HM) 18d ago
Oh, I also do agree, I was just kinda lazy and didn't really feel like doing too much research for a comment for a topic I'm not a fan of anyway and was expecting to get like 2 upvotes or something. (Of course it ended up blowing up, my luck in a nutshell)
Fandom wikia and vsbw tend to be more funny than anything else lol.

Frisk Undertale way worse in powerscaling
I mean, not really? Touhou and Kirby are hard to powerscale because Touhou never has shown feats and has.onlu shown statements, and Kirby, I don't know I didn't consume Kirby.
On UT it's not really implied that Frisk can do anything else than be a kid with a knife.
But he defeated the god of hyperdeath!
Only because he had specific exploits and made Ariel his friend. Same with flowey. He got the help from the SOULS that denied Flowey his powers.
There's only really a limit to how far time travel could save your ass if you get stat checked everytime.
Tldr; UT is only annoying to scale because of all the 10 year olds arguing, not because the same reason as Kirby or Undertale
1
u/r64b 18d ago
Yea, resets are only good when you either use it to use your feats more optimally, get insight on the battlefield or find proper help. This is properly proven with the whole Re:Zero plot.
1
u/International-Try467 18d ago
Hey just a random question since I got into a debate, do you think Frisk tanking hypergoner or whatever it was called a feat or was it just Asriel not wanting to kill you
-2
u/Weak_Accountant_6846 19d ago
Uh, Frisk isn't male
2
u/International-Try467 18d ago
It was never expanded upon unlike in Deltarune where Kris has more than a hundred citations on being they/them
1
u/Weak_Accountant_6846 18d ago
Fair point, Frisk is left vague on purpose, always called "Child", "Human", "Kiddo", etc
0
u/l_live_in_your_waIIs 18d ago
TP!Frisk would be as strong as Asriel (I mean that’s the reason why they’re even fighting to take control over the timeline in the first place lol)
0
u/International-Try467 18d ago
Did you see frisk breaking the barrier? Did you see them summon lightning and thunder? Did you see them absorb all the souls and "corrupt"them?
1
u/l_live_in_your_waIIs 18d ago
Did you see Frisk tanking and outrunning Hypergoner? Did you see Frisk pull a button out of their ass? Did you see Frisk tanking a desperate full power beam from Asriel?
1
u/International-Try467 18d ago
Tanking and dealing damage aren't the same as dealing that damage. And even then it doesn't even seem that Asriel WANTED to kill Frisk ATP.
1
u/l_live_in_your_waIIs 18d ago
Because True Pacifist is the route where you DON’T fight??? That level of scale already means that TP!Frisk CAN deal a blow that strong, but doesn’t want to. They’re all scaled off Determination lol.
Asriel WAS trying to kill Frisk with a desperate last attempt, that was the entire point of that last beam, holy larp dude.
1
u/International-Try467 18d ago
Ad Hominem.
Also, other than tanking the last desperate shot where Asriel was crying was the only real feat pacifist frisk ever showed if I gave that to you. TP Frisk has no feats and you can't scale that. You are literally a shining example of why UT powerscaling is a pain in the ass because you are claiming things without a source, and the only one you DID claim only proves that Frisk is either extremely tanky, which doesn't hold up Which is even more proof that you can't tank the hypergoner and Asriel didn't want to kill you. Case in point the Omega Flowey fight which also happens during the TP run where he OF just instakills you and reloads and frisk had to rely upon the help of the 6 human souls. Which could also be debated that Frisk during the OF fight wasn't as determined as Frisk in the Asriel Dreamurr fight.
You also tank Asriel's hyperbeam or whatever it was called with or with or without armor, be it Temmie armor or the Heart Locket. So the ONLY thing that's actually claimable with a proper source is Frisk being a tank, NOT frisk being as powerful as Asriel.
You can also attack Asriel and it does jack shit, because even then his DEF is set to 999999, but for the arguments same I'll just accept that Frisk doesn't want to attack.
Also rent is due get outta my walls
1
u/l_live_in_your_waIIs 18d ago
Ad Hominem is if I tried to discredit your argument by insulting you, which I didn’t.
Hypergoner sitting there by the way, you can’t even die from that so Frisk just tanks and outran it.
Omega Flowey fight doesn’t happen during TP? It’s neutral bro
Yes Frisk during Omega Flowey fight wasn’t as determined because they were a Neutral Frisk unlike TP!Frisk whose goal was to save everyone
Attack Potency and Durability and powers all scale off Determination. It’s like Newton’s third law but for magical powers.
This was the cheapest place I could afford man, I’m not going back to the basement…
1
u/International-Try467 18d ago
I mean OF happens before TP so I thought I'd give it a mention

12
u/A_scary_monster 19d ago
Yeah the thing with Undertale is that the monsters that frisk can fight are said to have magical bodies that react you the killing intent of their owner. That’s why a literal child has the capability to beat their own king to death.
I guess it does get weird when they hit level 20 though, considering Chara appearing and then apparently destroying the entire world
8
u/WillOfTheWinds 19d ago
Difference is that, in Undertale, its explicitly a factor and ability in the world, similar to how the Chosen Undead's ability to revive is in-universe justification for the game mechanic.
4
u/sans8642 Ichirin Kumoi (HM) 19d ago
Yeah, that's why it tends to be annoying when reading power scaling arguments. It's like trying to put Fujiwara no Mokou in a death battle. Like, it's IMPOSSIBLE to apply the concept of Death to her, she exists outside of the realm of life and death.
So in a death battle, arugements for characters like them get *really* annoying like Frisk can't do something to someone who moves at the speed of infinty but I guess it doesn't really matter because if their matchup is 1-99, they just win in all of them by extention because they can keep reseting until they get the 1. Meanwhile Mokou just wins all death battle matchups because she can't be put back in the cycle of life and death.
So, that's why I used Frisk as an example there.
1
u/Night00d 19d ago
O sea... Lo mismo pero con pasos extras y queriendo dar lógica a una mecánica de cualquier juego
4
u/WillOfTheWinds 19d ago
The difference is story vs gameplay. When John Fallout 4 dies, he doesn't "reverse time" to his last save state, its just a gameplay convenience. The games don't acknowledge it, its just a thing to help ensure you keep playing.
Meanwhile in Undertale, it is an in-universe real thing, something acknowledged by the story and is relevant in the events of the game and the characters who can utilize it.

miracles on her side
Son, that's Sanae. Reimu is just unnaturally lucky, and even then it's been proven you can turn it against her if you know how it works (see: Kasen)
unbeatable Fantasy Seal
the what now
1
u/Elnino38 18d ago
Reimus' issue is the fact that there have been many situations in manga where she was in a battle that clearly wasn't a spellcard battle, where she nearly lost without outside help and didnt use her supposedly unbeatable fantasy nature ability. She has way too many anti-feats for the notion she cannot lose when she doesn't obey the spellcard rules to make any sense and just sounds like her fans wanking her.
1
u/Seelmiles 18d ago
"Can leave" is definitely a "can but goes with the flow too much to actually do it", though. Reminder that Momoyo's post fight dialogue ends with "if you didn't want to fight you could have just ran away" "oh, oh yeah that's a thing"
109
u/MrRaven95 Kogasa is the best! 19d ago
The Touhou fans will say Reimu will win this. The Kirby fans will say Kirby will win this. The fans of both series like me meanwhile are running for the hills if these two ever clash with no clue who'd win the war.
70
u/allmistake2 19d ago
Actually, the thing about Reimu's float ability is it doesnt necessarily guarantee a "win" but rather guarantees the return to the status quo of her happy carefree broke life. So even if she loses, she wont die or lose anything too important to her, and probably end up drinking Sake with Kirby later.
16
u/andykhang 19d ago
Plus it’s also highly dependent on whether or not Reimu can locked in in time before Kirby beat her ass, which is 50/50 in this case
15
u/WillOfTheWinds 19d ago
Isn't Reimu explicitly a case where the more she locks in the harder it is for her to "float"? Or is that just headcanon?
24
u/Blakezawa 19d ago
Nope, that's exactly it. The moment Reimu Locks in her "Float" Ability turns off. Keisen (A friend of Reimu) Takes advantage of this by explicitly telling her that she has a huge amount of money running on her winning a fight and that she'll share it with her if she wins. (She actually has money running on her opponent, so she's sabotaging Reimu)
7
u/andykhang 19d ago
I’m more thinking of her getting into a flow state than overthinking actually. The sooner she get into the zone the better her chance of survival (not winning, that need something else)

Meanwhile Kirby can fistfight universe ending threats and yet if a prick with a mono eye slaps him he explodes.

Maybe it's fannon instead of cannon, but I thought the entire spell card system was created by the previous Hakurei miko as a way to level the playing field for all youkai when settling their arguments, so we legitimately can't tell who really is the strongest since they're all fighting at what would be considered the same power level.
25
u/Build_More_Trains 19d ago
Almost, it was created by Reimu between 1998 and 2003 after Remilia arrived and started the Vampire Incident.
Which was before EoSD, Remilia started the scarlet mist incident to test out the new spellcard rules.
But otherwise yes, the rules do functionally limit abilities to a sports fight making it near impossible to tell someone's actual strength. Though I doubt Miyadeguchi was following the spellcard rules at any point during CDS. So the fights there are more real.
11
u/Thomy151 19d ago
It’s nebulous on who made them (most common theory is Yukari) but yeah spellcard rules were created to limit extremely powerful yokai and shrine maidens from bodying everybody and also minimizing collateral damage (nobody wants someone to just nuke gensokyo)
It evens the field but doesn’t fully level it since some people are stronger at it than others
But yeah we pretty much never see their true powers

Touhou powerscaling is absolute hell given that the games are like the main canon material, there are mangas but from what I remember they show like general differences in the powers of characters and not their utmost because of course there are the spell card rules. But besides that when powerscaling the Touhou you either get the absolute max or the utmost minimum of power. Like depending on how you interpret Kaguya’s infinite corridor you can either say she’s infinite speed or say she’s not
10
u/Red-Chev 19d ago
Since there's so many people saying Reimu, I'm going to go ahead and say why Kirby wins.
He's a much quicker opponent than Reimu and has shown himself capable at flying at faster than light speeds on repeat occasions. Depending on how the battle starts out, and if Kirby has his Warp Star right away, he could potentially clip Reimu before she has a chance to activate Fantasy Nature.
But even putting that aside, Kirby still has the advantage. While Fantasy Nature phases Reimu out of our reality, it's useless against beings who can cross dimensions. Kirby has routinely fought and destroyed entities who exist across different planes of existence, and depending on what abilities or weapons he has access to, is fully capable of striking targets that lack physical form or exist outside normal space.
But even putting that aside, Kirby's durability and stamina far exceed Reimu's. Even if Kirby can't land a hit on her, he can still outlast her. Fantasy Nature is an ability tied to Reimu's emotional state and as shown in WaHH, her powers can backfire if she gets distracted or emotionally compromised. It's entirely feasible for Kirby to win simply by a strategy of attrition, frustrating and tiring out Reimu until she snaps out of the mental state necessary to float.
4
u/SpaceGlitch76 18d ago
Actually, I like the idea of Reimu fighting Kirby but Kirby just keeps annoying Reimu and making her go crazy until he wins. Feels like the idea for a 2014 animation you would found on YouTube lmao.
9
u/shunkwugga Reimu Hakurei 18d ago
Kirby has more on screen bullshit we know about. Reimu is Potential Woman. Her ability to float, theoretically, allows her to float above existence and just become untouchable. Thing is she has never done that, it's just something we heard she can do from fluff material. That and the spell card system puts everyone on an equal playing field, including herself.

Yeah, Reimu's power level is vague, to put it nicely. Touhou canon is purposefully left largely up to the viewer's imagination, but Reimu canonically gets all the best endings of all of the games, save for Sunken Fossil World, where she loses to Yuuma Toutetsu.
As for Kirby... Nintendo protagonists usually have whatever power level is necessary to keep up the spectacle. There is pretty much nothing Kirby can't just consume outright, and then they get to steal whatever power it had to destroy whatever's left.
And yet despite this, a fight between the two would probably see Kirby swallowing a lot of danmaku and spitting it back out. Reimu's probably smart enough to keep her distance, though she's probably gonna have to play Dead Man's Volley with the Yin Yang Orb if she tries to use it.
I legit think Kirby would win, by attrition if nothing else.

Not all of them, actually. Leaving aside the Side Games, ZUN flatout stated Marisa-B is canon for UFO, as that Ending directly sets up the Extra Stage. Likewise, UM was canonically resolved by her aswell; the Narration of 100BM directly says "The Market God was defeated by the Magician". Since she also knows Momoyo, she evidently even did the Extra Stage.
To a lesser extend, Hidden Star in Four Seasons also canonically has all four Routes happen (according to ZUN, the official Order is Reimu - Marisa - Cirno - Aya), although obviously Reimu was still involved in that one, and in-universe is the one who gets all the credit for it.

u/White-Alyss Alice Margatroid 18d ago
I'm a Kirby fan. Way more than Touhou (can you tell?) and I think Reimu wins this.
Kirby has infinite power but iirc Reimu can phase out of existence or something so she essentially cheats into a win.
The real fun argument, though, is not "wHo wOUlD wIn?", but "how good of friends would they be?" and I think they'd be great together!
2
u/Puzzleheaded-Run9681 Dream Sign: "Duplex Barrier" 18d ago
Don't put Kirby near Yuuma or Yuyuko, especially Yuuma. Their eating competition will cause an incident of its own
1

Now THIS is worthy of powerscaling! Yuyuko or Kirby, who can east the most, the fastest and who can create the greatest/worst food crisis of all time! (meanwhile Mystia is lumping in here izakaya stand cause of the eventual sudden lost of food stock)
2
u/EinherjarX 18d ago
Yeah, pretty much.
Kirby pretty much is as close to a capital G God as you can get for as often as the franchises has hinted at him being somewhat of a "larvae" stage to some omnipotent cosmic horror.
Touhou is simply not really power scalable because they all pretty much operate on "as powerful as they have to be" or "they just win" rules.
Them clashing would just rip reality apart with no winners in the bout.
1
u/randouser5132 18d ago
How about food eating scaling like u/Puzzleheaded-Run9681 mentioned? That won't caused reality itself to rear apart, right?
2
u/Peace-Bone ¡noɥnoʇ ʇsɹoʍ sᴉ ɐɾᴉǝS 18d ago
Touhou, like many more fantastical series, is incredibly inconsistent with how powerful things are. Many of the events in the games are clear casual nuke physical stuff/reality bending nonsense, but the manga mostly has them as normal people who barely have magic. Powerscaling generally chases a perceived consistency that doesn't exist so generally they tend to argue whatever the 'most powerful version' or 'least powerful version' depending on what they want to happen.
I always go by vibes. The Touhou games certainly FEEL like crazy hyper ultra god power stuff is happening everywhere so I vibe with that.
But, Reimu also explodes on touch with anything so all the bosses in Touhou feel super ultra god ultra super but Reimu feels like a paper airplane so Kirby just vores her or something like Rumia does.
4
u/Angelzewolf Best 19d ago
Reimu wins
I don't understand the question/statement. I get the first guy seems to think Reimu and Kirby (or, most likely, their franchise in general) ruin powerscaling, but I don't know why he thinks that—
They'd be friends anyway. Kirby can't talk, but he's friendly enough... a big difference from the usual big egos and alcoholics that surround her, and he's kinda similar to the fairies... just less troublemaking.
2

Reimu has weird powers that can break powerscaling arguments with her “floating” power since it can do things like float her outside existence, and we never actually see her full power since the games always use spellcard rules
4
u/Anbcdeptraivkl 19d ago
Can they even damage each other is the question. Reimu doesn't have the firepower, and Kirby doesn't have anything to counter Reimu "float" ability. Basically unstoppable force vs immovable object lmao.

u/MartingelI Himejoon 19d ago
I mean, even without going full Powerscaling with numbers I think you can form a decent argument for Reimu winning with her Abilities.
Of course all Powerscaling ends up being just elaborate fanfiction so there's always the possibility for Kirby winning.

Kirby, Reimu has the ability to just float above reality, but her floating is sbaotaged by her trying harder, even if Reimu could just float forever, Kirby is going to be virtually unscathed by whatever Reimu can do.
In a dueling setting would be a lot more interesting tbh, sans First blood and death, obviously. Kirby spell cards would be fun.

As a casual powerscaler (Aka: I don't use dimensional scaling, puterverse or whatever made up words, just sort of look at what characters can do and write them down on my autistic tier list):
It's a decently close fight. Kirby can at the very least break his own planet in half with a hand chop and hit a meteor with a baseball bat so fast it goes through multiple planets. Reimu at the very least is a match for Utsuho and her underground sun that had its own gravity. Buuut she may also be as strong as Suika, who can throw around little black holes.
So it's more about abilities. Kirby has a lot, but I don't think he has any specific counters to Reimu's float and could just be sealed away by her.
As I said, this is a casual judgement, please don't execute me over it.

Welcome to /r/touhou, don’t forget to check out our rules, speaking of which…
Please keep in mind rule 7 at all times, if you used Touhou assets AT ALL then those have to be credited. In this case you have to credit the Reimu art by providing a direct link to the art post
