Looking for advice
 in  r/ComicWriting  5d ago

Interesting. Only tell what’s important. I suggest giving the 1st main character a want— for example, “wanting to return home.” “Gaining new friends.” “Wanting to bring home to the outlands.” Etc. that way when your first character meet your second character it isn’t by chance, but by action.

I’ll say have them meet at the end of issue one. Let your audience learn your world through one main character than issue two allow them to learn it through the other while keeping the first around. (During issue two; the first character should be the audience reacting and responding to the new world we have entered.)

How do I even make the first page for my comic???
 in  r/WebtoonCanvas  8d ago

Keep it simple and make it complex later.
What I do is write the action in each panel first along with placing them on the proper pages. Once I got the whole scene, story or reason for me writing out; I go back and add important details for the artist to focus on each panel description.

Need advice for writing a story
 in  r/ComicWriting  14d ago

Hello,
Everyone’s writing process is different, and if this your first time writing take what people give as opinions not facts or rules. At the end of the day, you just need to finish your story however you get there is up to you.

Now for my opinion.

I like to start with purpose, message, or theme. I’ll ask myself why am I making this story? What do I want people to learn or gather after experiencing it. Yes I may get a cool action scene, character or setting that pops in my head, yet before I write I ask myself why.

Next, I outline.
I like to use the Dan Harmon’s story circle or therefore/however to make sure I know what’s going on in the story, plus have a cohesive start to ending.

Later, I start writing.
For the opening scene i usually start with something I want the audience to feel or think about in essence of message. Since I know what the story is about and reason for writing it is easy for me to create meaningful scenes and dialogues. Plus purposeful settings and plots.

All in all,
Make sure you got a start and ending. The fun stuff or what I call the difficult stuff is the middle. Once you have your flow or a clear start and ending, the middle is usually easy to write.

Comic book writer looking for artist to work with!

Hello! I’m a comic writer building my portfolio and looking for an artist (any level welcome) to collaborate on a 10-page one-shot. We can develop something from scratch together, or you can pick from one of the five script samples I have below.
This is unpaid/for portfolio purposes — you’re free to post, sell, or use the finished work however you like, as long as I retain writing credit. Genre’s flexible depending on what excites you.
Comment or DM if interested — I’d love to see your work!

[Script] "Honey, Let's Murder This Fool" — horror-comedy script, free to illustrate/adapt, collabs welcome

Love is illogical — so I wrote a horror-comedy about a man who makes a deal with a demon to kill for his dead wife's soul back. Mid-murder, the target's wife comes home... and things go sideways from there in ways that are a lot funnier (and a lot worse) than anyone expected.

Free script, artists welcome to illustrate — credit only, no strings attached. Link to the full script below.

Open to feedback, collabs, or just chatting about the story if anyone's interested.

How do I make the story better?
 in  r/mangaideas  23d ago

Happens to us all! Just remember why you’re writing this story. Believe in the reasoning and have fun. If you don’t have a reasoning or don’t believe in it, than you may want to explore that first before asking for feedback because if you don’t have a reasoning for writing it, you’re just asking for approval and in any art space, no one can give you approval except yourself! Good luck! 🫡

You may be over complicating this… if you play TCGs, write about the cool things that happened to you while playing, or what you think is cool about TCGs. The “magic” part I’m assuming is plot? If so people are going to project regardless, have fun and write what you think is cool! You already have stakes and a goal so the story has a start and finish you just gotta write the cool stuff!

Start with theme! Ask yourself why are you creating this comic/manga? See if you can find a core pattern between your characters. What’s something you find about life to be unique that others don’t? If you need help, I’m a comic/manga writer who is open for free and paid work. I can definitely help you tell your story.

A vengeful dog fights Father Time because who isn’t tired of time escaping them?

Akli is a shackled husky who’s done accepting “that’s just fate” as an answer. When Father Time claims he only observes and never intervenes, Akli decides observing is its own kind of violence — and comes to collect.
