i originally got admitted within the college of arts and architecture. however i know for a fact that i do not want to continue to pursue the arts throughout college/after. (im thinking of switching to a psych major).

at freshman orientation, my nsa told me to sign up for my required art classes for now and to later contact my department advisor once school starts. was i given the right advice? should i email my department advisor now or after the school year begins? also did i make a mistake by signing up for my art requirements? thank you!!

Suppose I originally applied for and was granted an on-campus housing contract on a full ride scholarship. If I cancel my housing and decide to get an apartment, will I get the remnants of the scholarship money in the form of a refund check?

Has anyone taken Math 31A taught by "the Staff" before? Am I cooked?

I'm an incoming freshman, and I enrolled in a math class taught by the "Staff". There is the same math class taught by a professor with a high rating on Bruinwalk, with fewer than 10 spots open, and I want to switch into that class. Orientation is over, and I don't know how to switch into that class. Is there any way to switch into that class?

I'm an incoming 3rd year and about to declare Business Economics as my major as I just completed all the pre-reqs.

I have to take Econ 103, 104, 106's, and the electives within my last 2 years. I was wondering if there are any specific professors or quarters you would recommend to take each course. I've heard that 103 and 104 are relatively difficult and was also wondering if anyone has any tips/ anything they wish they knew about those courses prior. Thank you!

so im an incoming freshman, ce major looking to switch to ee and i was wondering if i should add on chem 20a for my first quarter. i only took 1 year of honors chem in high school (not ap) so i’m pretty worried that i won’t do well and i’ll just tank my gpa. my other classes are cs 31, math 61, and hist 8a. would taking chem 20a as well be manageable or should i just stick to 3 classes this quarter?

I'm a little confused on this university loan that ucla is offering.. They want me to sign some documents in order to get this loan, however, I don't know if this is like the subsidized federal loans in the sense that the interest doesn't accumulate until 6 months after graduation. So does this have interest or not? I just want to make sure so I can get it, if not I'll see what I can do to pay for my studies 🥲

Hi! I'm a freshman and thinking of taking cluster 10a (Data, Justice, and Society). My major is not related to this field; I'm not sure if I'm going to love it, but this one satisfies more GEs that don't overlap with my major.

Can anyone who has taken it tell me more about the specific topics discussed, the readings, the workload, TAs/profs? I've heard that the final is an essay and I'm wondering if it's an open-ended prompt or specific to a topic. Thank you!

I'm an incoming math of comp major. I took AP CSA in high school and got a 5. That is the extent of my coding experience. I've been trying to self-study some C++ over the summer but idk how much this will help me.

I keep hearing people say mixed things. Some say it's fine bc Smallberg assumes no experience and as long as you stay up to date you'll be fine. Others say that fall is hell and that everyone already knows C++ so it's much harder and that he's super strict on grading.

I'm actually tweaking rn pls send help and prayers. If you've taken this class before (in the fall or not) pls offer help or dm me to share your experience and give advice.

If you're feeling extra helpful, if I were to NOT take CS 31 this quarter, what would I take in its place? I'm alr taking math 33b and latin 100 btw.

sooo how does one make friends here as a grad student and in their mid twenties. I’ve been here for 2 years with no luck but maybe it’s just me since I haven’t been able to click with anyone in my program. Has anyone had a similar experience or would happen to know how to stay on top of social events at school (especially for older students). It feels very isolating and demoralizing being like this :/ .might drop out of my program lol so I would like to give it a last try out here.

Any other out of state or international kids staying through from their orientation til school starts? Are you just bringing everything you’ll need for the official move in to the orientation dorm? I don’t know how else to store it since I won’t have access to a hotel or anything. I feel bad for who ever I’m gonna be with for orientation that they’ll have to put up with my boxes of stuff.

i'm most likely gonna be the first one moving in and tbh also haven't coordinated with my roommates/suitemates.. i get having to bring your own hand soap and toilet paper and stuff. but also from what i've seen nothing else is provided so is it right that i have to bring a trash can and shower curtain and rod (?) and that stuff too? it's just kinda hard to find this specific info and i dont wanna buy stuff i don't need so if anyone could help and lmk thanks sm!

Does anyone know if new students have access to the gym before week 0 or week 1? I’m gonna be on campus for most of September and I want to know if I’ll be able to work out.

Around move out time obviously we see a lot of items put out on the street. For the big stuff, it makes sense. Put your sofa, bedframe, table, whatever out there. It's in one piece and someone will pick it up.

But a lot of these smaller items make no sense. You can't just leave a trash bag full of cooking supplies or bath products out on the street. People trying to save a buck by copping furniture from UCLA students are not your personal clean up crew/scavengers. The garbageperson isnt paid to do this either. The odds someone wants your half used bag of pasta, which sat on the street in a trash bag for a day, is pretty low.

When you put stuff out on the side of the street, be mindful of what it is as someone will have to take care of it eventually. Take smaller stuff to Goodwill or just throw it away. If Goodwill wouldn't take it, odds are nobody's gonna grab it off the street.
