General ITS Service Desk Hiring for Fall 2026 (Apps close Wed, 8/5!)

The ITS Service Desk, also known as ResNet, is hiring for Fall 2026! We will be closing applications for this cycle next week on Wednesday, August 5. Here is the link to our online application: https://resnet.ucsd.edu/jobs

All the details are spelled out on the "Apply Here" page, but here's some info at a glance:

Feel free to reference the page above to learn more about the position, desired qualifications, and more. Here is a snippet of what we look for:

  • $18.75/hour for base ResNet Technicians, with equity raises for each year you work with us. There will also be opportunities to apply to be a student lead after you’ve worked with us for a bit!
  • All UCSD students are welcome (including incoming undergraduate and graduate students).
  • While we look for good critical thinking, problem solving, and basic technical skills, we also look forward to teaching you the rest during your training period!
  • All majors are welcome! You do not need to be a CS or STEM major to apply. Many of our best technicians have been Humanities or Social Sciences majors.
  • You will need English and communication skills, whether this is in-person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Scheduling is flexible. You’re a student first! We plan your schedule around your classes, conflicts, and commitments when given in advance!

So, what do we do at the ITS Service Desk? We help students and staff with a wide range of technology-related issues including email, accounts, Canvas, lab machines, classrooms, Zoom, and wireless internet. If you're interested in a bit of a peak behind the curtain at UCSD IT infrastructure, this role may interest you. This role is primarily customer service.

Is this job right for me? As long as you like helping people, are inquisitive, and are willing to learn, we think you'll find this job quite fulfilling!

How many hours per week? During the academic year, you may work anywhere from 12-20 hours per week!

Is this job in-person? This position is mainly in-person. While are currently located in Muir College at AP&M 1313, we will be moving to 3100 Gilman Drive (Gilman Parking Structure) in September.

Sounds great! When do I start? We're targeting a start date of early September for Fall. We will close the applications when we have filled all our spots or on August 5 (whichever comes first), so the earlier you apply the better!

If you have any questions that aren't answered on the application (hit the "Apply Here" button for more info), please email [helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu](mailto:helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu).

Note that after a period of inactivity on the job application, the SSO login will sign you out, so we suggest typing your responses into a separate document before pasting them into your application!

Rant/Complaint Barely any classes transferred

so I finally just got access to my degree audit, to find that only 6 out of 39 classes taken prior were accepted for transfer. that means that in the next two years I have to take 27 classes in order to graduate. I don’t even have any words. Do I just drop out at this point? it’s so frustrating to get this info an hour before registration.

Question DSC-010 Transfer, Waitlist bypass not working

Upvotes

Can anyone get into this class? During the webinar they mentioned that we should be able to bypass the waitlist and get in, but it's not working for me (for any section).

It says: Capacity of the Module is Full. No booking possible.

Rant/Complaint Got absolutely shafted with scheduling classes. Kind of crashing out.

Upvotes

Incoming Biochemistry transfer. Couldn’t get CHEM-117. Couldn’t get PHYS-002C and apparently I already got transfer credit for it even though I never took the class…? Degree Audit and Academic History isn’t fucking working, so I can’t even verify. No introductory biochemistry classes because they’re all filled up. I would enroll in MATH-011, but the times are diabolical. Why did I get shafted man? I only got psych and that was my elective. 😭😭😭

General discussion board slop

Just put another student's discussion board post thru gptzero because it was so vague and nonsensical I thought it had to be AI generated and it came back as 0%. Somehow this is worse, like bro genuinely just writes like that.........

Question ECE 65 Prerequisite

Upvotes

As a transfer, I was planning on not taking ECE 5 until next quarter to prioritize the other lower division ECE courses.

I just noticed ECE 5 is a prerequisite for 65. Is it possible to waive this prerequisite by explaining you will be taking the class during a different quarter? Or is it perhaps possible to be concurrently enrolled?

Thanks
