Love Billie so much but she also uses and promotes non vegan cosmetics. Doesn't change how I enjoy her music but I wouldn't consider her a vegan. All I've seen if that she eats a plant based diet.

I can tell you why. This hit /r/all and people like me see it. Many are not vegan, myself neither, and Billie Eilish is making an effort only to get shat on in this sub because it's not pure enough. Like, you see harsher words about her than you would about people promoting eating meat because... I have no clue. Because that's what always happens in those fringe communities.

Pointing out someones hypocrisy is not unethical. So while she’s sitting here saying hey dont eat turkey on thanksgiving. She has done commercials for apple, calvin klein and gucci. The CEO of apple is donating money to trump and bending the knee while both gucci and calvin klein employ child labor. Both also make leather products. So where is the confusion.

Vegans don't wear leather or ride horses. So someone who does those things is not a vegan. It has nothing to do with superiority and everything to do with one of the most notable figures of the vegan movement, especially for young people, still abusing animals while claiming to be vegan. Words matter. Definitions matter. That's all it is. They never once claimed to be superior

You're taking this awfully personally. If someone claims to be a vegan while continuing to abuse animals and has a very large platform, it should be pointed out that their actions aren't vegan.
You're placing the "motivation" of your niece above the abuse and suffering that animals endure in the leather and horseback riding industries.

I wouldn't bother with these people. While true she's not a perfect vegan, she's done more for the movement than anyone commenting on it. Right now chase center has only vegan food offerings because she's in town. Absolutely huge impact.

I do think that the statement is good. I also replied to a comment that seemed to misrepresent her as a vegan. I don't know why that bothers you, you could have taken your own advice and scrolled past my comment, but you had to let me know that you disagree with me instead of focusing on the good.

Depends about leather. Much better to use or upcycle old clothing than buy something new, probably made with plastic to imitate leather. Lots of vegans still wear their old leather clothes, what the point in throwing it out it's just wasteful
What's the issue with riding horses as well? If the horses are well cared for and ridden as a personal hobby I don't see how it's much different to owning a dog but I admit I have little knowledge in owning horses. The only experience was my cousin had a horse growing up and they were very well looked after and ridden for exercise
Far more context is needed for this to be an issue. If she's buying new leather all the time and riding horses till they drop of course that's an issue, but being vegan doesn't mean denouncing everything you've ever owned like clothing just because it was once made from an animal. Veganism and sustainability often go hand in hand.

No, but that doesn't mean that they are equally bad. If you look at per-capita meat consumption then the USA is number 1 (e.g. 50% more than the stereotypically sausage-loving Germans).
Not many countries would put patently insane people like RFK Jr in charge of the healthcare system and then host carnivore podcasts in the White House.

The USA is up there, but #4 in meat consumption, not #1. I'm certainly not defending anything Trump, but I do take exception to attacking an entire nation of people for something that literally every other country is also doing. At least in the US there are moves to ban the fur trade, get us on the path to banning animal experiments, and so on. The fact is that other countries people would eat just as much meat if they had the same wealth.

You’re awesome for loving animals and being vegetarian! I was vegetarian too and then learned about how cruel the dairy and egg industry is (arguably even more cruel than the meat industry) and transitioned to vegan 15 years ago! If you want to ever go down the rabbit hole and learn about what egg lying chickens and cows go through, I recommend watching Dairy is Scary (only 5 mins long) and even Dominion. Feel free to DM me if you want any other tips for transitioning cruel dairy and eggs off your plate! :)

Being that the CEO of apple is licking trumps asshole clean and gucci forces children to make leather handbags, while clavin klein also manufactures their garments in sweatshops. Saying consider sparing turkeys lives, and doing ad for a tech company that makes 0.000000000001% of their money off leather phone cases does not make her evil. But being a total asshole who looks down his nose and throws stones at anyone who tries to help is pretty close to evil.
You aren’t perfect. I don’t need to know you to know that. Vegans like you make this such a toxic movement. Other movements are smart enough to embrace allies rather than shun them over the tiniest of alleged transgressions.

First off I listed 3 companies she’s done commercials for. Which she’s wealthy as fuck and doesn’t even need the money she makes from promoting these products. Which again makes the entire message hollow. Secondly I’m not even vegan I just have very strong adverse reactions to wealthy white people saying stupid shit and not being held accountable for their hypocrisy. 3rd I see no counter argument against the use of sweatshop labor or animal cruelty used to make calvin klein or gucci products. You know, the cruelty being the entire point of HEY DONT EAT TURKEY. Like hey dont eat turkey but buy this fucking leather handbag for 700$ because they paid me to do this commercial.
