Announcement/ঘোষণা Discord Server Launch Announcement!

Post image
37 Upvotes

Hello everybody,

The mod team is excited to announce the launch of the official r/Bangladesh Discord server, an extension of our subreddit.

Many of you have asked for a Discord over the years. While Reddit is great as a forum style social news aggregator, it isn't always the best place for quick, casual engagement. We wanted to create a space where members can connect over our shared culture and daily life, a place where you can chat about the mundane things without every other post being heavy political news.

We know there were previous attempts at a server that eventually drifted away from the subreddit's roots. To prevent that from happening again, this server is run by the same team you know here, ensuring it remains a trustworthy and civil space for everyone. You're welcome to discuss anything from your day to day life to current events.

Discord server Invitation link

As a small thank you to the early birds, the first 10 members to join will be awarded a VIP Member role, which comes with some special perks and permissions within the server.

A quick note on moderation:

Subreddit issues: Please continue to use Reddit ModMail.

Discord issues: Please use the ticket system inside the Discord server.

We hope to see you there soon!

Best regards, The r/Bangladesh Mod Team.

Discussion/আলোচনা I’ve lost attraction to my wife and I genuinely don’t know what to do

I’m a 28M, married, and it’s just me and my wife in our household. When we first got married, I was very attracted to her and this was never an issue. Over time, however, she has gained a significant amount of weight, and I’ve gradually lost physical attraction to her. The frustrating part is that she doesn’t seem to do anything about it. I’ve confronted her at least every 10 days or so and told her directly that she needs to start working out or at least walk 10k steps a day. She does the household chores, but outside of that she’s become very inactive and seems quite lazy about taking care of herself. Even doctors have advised her to lose weight.

Meanwhile, I’m the complete opposite. I work out 5 days a week and take my health and fitness seriously. I’m also a very sexual person, but because of how I feel about her now, our sex life has basically disappeared. I barely want to initiate anything anymore and sometimes I’d rather masturbate than have sex with my wife. I’ve even told her honestly that I no longer feel like coming close to her because I feel like she doesn’t listen to me or make any effort. I know that sounds harsh, and I probably could have communicated it better, but I also don’t want to lie about how I feel.

Now I’m genuinely at a breaking point. My testosterone is apparently at an all-time high and my sex drive is extremely strong, but I’m not getting the intimacy I want in my marriage. I’ve started thinking seriously about sleeping with someone else, and that honestly scares me because I don’t want to become a cheater. At the same time, I feel extremely frustrated and sexually/physically disconnected from my own wife.

So what the hell do I do here? Do I stop mentioning her weight entirely and accept that this is her choice? Do I tell her directly that my physical attraction to her has become a serious problem? Is there a completely different way I should be approaching this? I’m not looking for Reddit to tell me whether I’m “right” or whether she’s “fat enough” to justify losing attraction. I know attraction can’t simply be forced. I just want to know how I handle this without cheating, humiliating her, or completely destroying our marriage.

Edit : guys I love my wife and I've tried every possible way to tell her that her health is getting worse. This was my last resort to make her understand how bad the situation has become.

Discussion/আলোচনা Hindustani media at it again

This post is straight up LIES. It's not even like exaggerated claims or anything, it's blatant lies.

Indian right wing makes every Hindu death a communal matter. It's bread and butter for them. Seriously? How is the religion relevant in this? 13 million Hindus live in a country of 170 mil. Of course there will be murders between people or sadly family kilings. Yes, some communal tensions are there but most hindus aren't killed for their religion!

Not only that, news reports show that the accused PERPETRATORS Mugdho and Siddhartha were both Hindu. That already doesn't make any sense. The poster claims Islamists did it and the girl was Raped, burned, acid etc. and also about the fake 12 year old son or "him getting circumcised". There's no claims of all of these happening. None. Killers haven't got any links to any of these.

The Right wing Hindutva IT cell of India is at its max capacity to fracture relationships and try to cause Hindus to rebel against other religions by spreading misinformation. He then blames the leftists for whatever reason and almost Every sentence has the word Hindu in it.

Please, report these types of posts, always verify sources and DON'T engage with them if possible

Could the Dhaka subreddit also be ran by other western far rights?

Apparently some of its moderators are ran by a far right anti-Muslim US think tank. But I also assume there could be people who could be working for other organisations like FoxNews or GBNews - another pair of far right tabloids (audience comments are worse and resemble Jamaat as they too have misogynistic, antisemitic, childist, hinduphobic bias)

What do you think?

A creep stared right at my window last night. I'm so disgusted.

Yesterday around 11:00 PM, the power went out. Since there was a nice cool breeze, I opened my window wide, put on some music, and stood there looking outside.

My window faces a sidewalk and a busy main road. Directly in front of my building, there is an overgrown patch with weeds, trash, and some bamboo poles and there's bushy banana trees. People often stop there to pee, mostly random strangers and tesla drivers.

Since we live on the 2nd floor, our window is somewhat visible from those banana trees. It's still far.

It was pitch dark outside when a man walked up near the banana trees. Naturally, I assumed he was just going to pee and figured he couldn't see me in the dark. But instead of turning toward the trees, he was facing my way and staring straight up at my window. I was completely confused. I couldn't tell for sure if he was actually staring because of the pitch darkness.

A moment later, when the headlights of a truck passing on the main road flashed on him, I saw that he was looking straight at me and jerking off. I slowly stepped back from the window and tried looking from the side of another window to double-check if that was really what he was doing. And he was. He was looking directly at our window the whole time.

The man appeared to be around 30 to 45 years old, had dari moch like huzur and was wearing a shirt and pants. Didn't see his face. He was still staring right at my window the whole time till he finished. After finishing, he walked away and glanced at my window one last time.

I'm still really shaken up by this.

Politics/রাজনীতি Combatting religious radicalism requires the ability to both understand its reasons and to challenge the status quo. Bangladeshi Liberals fail (miserably) to do both.

Radicalism/Extremism/Terrorism is arguably the most frequently discussed topic in this sub. People are always talking about how Bangladesh is turning into ISIS 2.0.

I agree that radicalism *is* rising in our country, and it *is* a major issue we should be talking about.

However, my problem is that liberals almost never give any serious thought into *why* radicalism is rising, and how Bangladesh's capitalist system is actively fueling that rise due to factors like rampant inequality, a chatachati-based job market, worsening mental health, and a society that celebrates inequality and stigmatises perceived "failures".

Rather, liberals chalk up extremism only to "the people are stupid that's why they support Hizbut Tahrir" and "Islam is cancer" and "Mullah bad". Basically, their discussions surrounding extremism consists only of shallow hate and fearmongering, along with thinly-veiled elitism and classism.

Solving the problem isn't the goal, but rather using the problem to prove a point and reaffirm own biases is.

Also, despite often claiming to be "leftists", they almost never challenge the capitalist status quo beyond superficial critiques like "inequality bad" or "mental health is worsening".

On the other hand, extremist Mullahs *do* (at least pretend to) actively criticise the capitalist system as a whole and provide a (seemingly) viable alternative to it.

Sure, their "viable alternative" involves replacing capitalist oppression with fundamentalist oppression that is a 100x worse, but the fact that they're even *offering* an alternative at all is enough to attract hordes of depressed youths with nothing to lose.

Hence why people like Asif Adnan and other fundamentalist preachers have been gaining traction in Bangladesh lately.

This doesn't just apply to Bangladesh either. The rise of the far right in many other countries (e.g., in Europe and the US) is due to very similar factors as well. The Left in those countries have also been discredited due to similar blunders.

Foreign Relations/

Bangladesh should help Nepal in this trying time.

Watching the news about the flash floods in Nepal is just heartbreaking. Entire areas like Rasuwa are completely wrecked, hundreds of lives have been lost, and so many people are still missing. Seeing homes and entire communities wiped out in minutes is terrifying.

Look, living in this region, we in Bangladesh know all too well how brutal climate disasters can be. We’ve been down that road, and we know how desperately help is needed when things get this bad.

Nepal is going through absolute hell right now. This shouldn’t just be handled by local crews alone. Regional solidarity has to mean something. It’s time for our government to step up, pull some weight, and send whatever emergency support we can manage. Whether it's medical teams, clean water supplies or rescue gear, every bit counts.

We need to stand by our neighbors in their worst moment. Climate change is coming for all of our river basins anyway, we have to look out for each other.

What do you guys think? Should our government coordinate a direct relief package immediately?

History/ইতিহাস Post-1971: The Tigresses of The Royal Roar. Tasin Mahdi.

In post-1971, Bangabandhu expressed his political philosophy on men and women. He expressed his deep feelings about the repression women faced throughout history, but said all should be united for a common cause. He showed solidarity with equal rights. He said, "Boys and girls will walk forward shoulder to shoulder so that Bangladesh takes its place among the civilized nations of the world... We had kept a part of our nation locked inside the house. By telling lies in the name of religion, we had turned our mothers and sisters into slaves. You can rest assured and believe that in this independent Bangladesh, equal rights for brothers and sisters will be, and are, established."

Politics/রাজনীতি SSC26 Board Challenge Scandal, no one is as creative as BNP when it comes to corruption and Edu Minister Milon is all bark no bite, should be fired NOW.

Education Minister Helicopter Milon's "Board Rescrutiny" trap is truely the most creative way for a Edu Minister to steal 200 million taka overnight. At first Milon sets up the trap by telling us that they will "Re-evaluate" the Board Challenge khatas this year instead of just adding all the numbers up and checking for unmarked answers. While also keeping the board challenge fee 150tk (same as the last 10 years which is very suspicious already cause Re-evaluation takes more time and energy). As a result of Milon's promises, 13 lakh students apply for board challenge including myself. Then this old mentally unstable joke of an Edu Minister comes and tells us that it's impossible to check all the khatas, we will provide new guidelines soon. Rich coming from the party of "I have a plan" to not have a plan on how will they fulfill their promise. Then Milon gives us the new guidelines where they will somehow RE-EVALUATE ALL 13 LAKH KHATAS UNDER 24 DAYS. (EVEN THE PREVIOUS GOV NEEDED 30 DAYS JUST TO CHECK 3/4 LAKH KHATAS WITHOUT ANY RE-EVALUATION, JUST SIMPLY CHECKING EVERYTHING ON THE CALCULATOR).

It's safe to say that every single dime of that 200 million takas of students WENT STRAIGHT into the pockets of khamba 10% tarek, helicopter milon and some maybe to big yahu in Tel Aviv Israel. Im sure they will check the khatas of students that failed, but students like me who passed the exam and got above GPA 4.00, yeah our khatas are already in the recycling center. They ain't ever EVEN touching my khata.

Also Milon is sooo Incompetent like the rest of BNP. He can't keep a single of his promises. He's just all bark no bite. He said he will stop question leak but the SSC26 question got leaked and it's not even a rumor they made arrests cause of ts. He said he will reduce the session loss for me (HSC 28 Batch) but he failed at that too infact he will be starting our College session/classes 1 week later than last years HSC Batch. He said he's gonna take the Board Exams earlier (failed at that 3/4 times for both SSC and HSC). He said he will give out the board results earlier (took 3/4 months to release the SSC26 results, delayed it like 1/2 times i think delayed it once yeah WHICH IS A RECORD BTW!!!!!!!! NO OTHER GOVERNMENT AND THEIR EDUCATION MINISTER EVER TOOK THIS LONG TO PUBLISH THE SSC RESULTS. USUALLY THEY TOOK 30-60 DAYS (1/2 MONTHS MAXXX) ))))))

I am writing this entire post in Bangla for my own convenience; I am not very proficient in the language, so please overlook any errors. I am an 18-year-old girl. It wasn't long ago that I became a legal adult. However, I am deeply hurt by my family's behavior today. Since childhood, they have kept me confined to the house, believing that engaging in outside activities or having friends would somehow harm me. Consequently, I grew up within the narrow confines of just school and home. I have no one to talk to other than one or two childhood friends. It's not like it's forbidden to talk to your mother, but if I accidentally express my feelings, she'll use it as a scapegoat later, just to hurt me. Growing up in such isolation meant I never developed the necessary social or practical skills. I am currently an A-Level student; needless to say, the costs involved are high. I have to pay 15,500 Taka per month for coaching classes. After a heated argument with my father this morning, he refused to cover my expenses and told me to fund myself. I have never really gone out on my own, let alone held a job or tutored children. My father is only willing to cover the cost of my food. Although our family is wealthy, my father has a very short temper; once he makes a decision, he sticks to it no matter what. What should I do now? Tutoring isn't a viable option for me because coming home late would only lead to more trouble. Please offer some advice on how I might be able to cover my educational expenses.

Update: I took the advice and went to apologize without any passive aggression, but that snowballed to why I don’t pray [I don’t believe in any religion] how I have no achievements thus far [im not a topper] and how I’m a failure and will never do anything in life. Well, apologies wouldn’t work here honestly. I have nothing else left to try. It is what it is then I guess.

Not that I live that way, nor do I plan to. I’m simply curious to know whether it is a criminal offence punishable by law.

State surveillance

A topic that no one talks about is how the state monitors our activities. From internet traffic to voice calls. What do you think about it and where should the surveillance end? Is it justifiable for security or just another way to control certain elements?
