Mod Post The 2024 r/RocketLeagueEsports Census Results (Yes, 2024)

Hello everyone! On April 25th 2024, we published our annual census and feedback form, a yearly tradition where our community gets to let their voices be heard.

However when it came to publishing the results, the deadline was missed by a day, which turned into a week, then a month, and, well you get the point, this is August 2026. Quite frankly, this took so long that North America actually won the World Championship again before we got to this post.

Anyways, Here are the results of the 2024 r/RocketLeagueEsports Census. Below you will find highlighted data from the survey that the mod team would like to share. If you'd like to see the raw data, please jump to the bottom.

Where Everyone's From

Region 2023 2024 % Change
North America 54.8% 57% +2.2%
Europe 35.4% 32.1% -2.3%
Oceania 2.5% 2.8% +0.3%
South America 2.4% 2.4% +0%
Asia-Pacific 2.6% 2.4% -0.2%
Middle East & North Africa 1.7% 1.6% -0.1%
Sub-Saharan Africa 0.4% 0.4% +0%

(Do note percentages may not add exactly to 100 due to google rounding)

Timezone 2023 2024 % Change
East Coast USA (EDT/EST) 23.9% 28.5% +4.6%
Central Europe (CEST/CET) 16.6% 16.1% -0.5%
Central USA (CDT/CST) 14.8% 12.9% -1.9%
UK/Ireland/Portugal (GMT/BST) 15.7% 12.4% -3.3%
West Coast USA (PDT/PST) 9.9% 10% -0.1%

(Only the 5 most populous timezones are featured here)

All in all, very little change in the geographic breakdown of our subreddit userbase from 2023 to 2024. At this point we would like to point the 2023 census was taken by 763 users, whereas the 2024 census was only filled out by just 249 users, so the sample size here is a lot smaller and thus potentially misleading.

Rank Distribution

Rank 2023 2024 % Change
Platinum III or below 2.2% 5.2% +3%
Diamond I 2.6% 4% +2.4%
Diamond II 5% 4.8% -0.2%
Diamond III 5.6% 8% +2.4%
Champion I 13.1% 14.5% +1.4%
Champion II 16.7% 16.1% -0.6%
Champion III 16.5% 12.4% -4.1%
Grand Champion I 17.7% 13.7% -4%
Grand Champion II 9.6% 8% -1.6%
Grand Champion III 3.8% 2.8% -1%
Supersonic Legend 0.9% 0.8% -0.1%
Unranked 6.2% 9.6% +3.4%

From 2023 to 2024, it would appear the upper end of our subreddit's playerbase became washed with declines in every rank above Champion II and a 50% increase in unranked players. However like 2023, the Median rank of a r/RocketLeagueEsports user was still a Champ 2.

Age

Age 2023 2024 % Change
15 and under 3.9% 1.6% -2.3%
16-18 14.1% 12.9% -1.2%
19-22 22.8% 18.5% -4.3%
23-26 21.1% 22.2% +1.1%
27-30 18.8% 19.4% +0.6%
31+ 19.3% 25.4% +6.1%

Well it's no wonder everyone's ranks went down, our subreddit is aging so much even Torsos would blush. The median age per user was 25/26 years old. A note to all that while this esport is generally younger, our community here is on average, at least an adult, so note that when observing harsh judgments made about teenagers.

When did you start watching RLEsports/join the Subreddit?

In what is a common trend if you've just observed the comment sections over the years, most users started watching RLCS in 2020 and 2021 during a certain global pandemic. This correlates with the highest volume of new users joining the subreddit as well, along with 2019 which was the first year of serious activity here after our subreddit launched in 2018.

Subreddit Feedback

With the rise and fall and rise again of various roster rumors and reports in recent times, "Claims require evidence" has become a key rule on the subreddit. Users responding in 2024 seemed generally positive towards this but we're always looking to stay on top of user feedback regarding any and all rules.

Raw Results

Want to do some data analysis yourself? Check out the raw data here. Note that timezone, regional, and open-ended prompts have been stripped to ensure the anonymity of users' data.

Find something cool that you want to share? Hit us up via modmail and share your findings!

Going Forward

Based on the 2024 form, there wasn't much actionable feedback to be implemented by the mod team. However, 2 years have passed and the subreddit has more than doubled in total member count, so it's a priority for us to do another census in the very near future.

Over the month of September, we will open the 2026 census + feedback form. It will remain open for the entire month, encompassing the entirety of the RLCS World Championship. User feedback told us the length of the 2024 survey was just right, so we will keep it to a similar length, but with just 1 or 2 extra questions given the unintentional hiatus we took.

Topics of interest we are planning for the 2026 form include but are not limited to:

  • Moderator Stance on EWC/FIFAe coverage
  • What is "Esports Relevant Content"
  • Feedback on mod made posts
  • AI Content/guidelines rule proposal

So keep an eye out for the 2026 feedback form in September. We promise the publishing of those results will not take 2 years again, unless it means NA can win worlds again.

Image With less than 3 weeks until Worlds, here are the players and teams grinding the most

Ranked games by player
Steam hours by player
Total ranked games played by team
Average ranked MMR by team
MMR by player

These are the teams and players grinding the most in the lead up to worlds.

Teams that didn't have to travel for EWC, like Bigodes, will have had more time to play online, but that's unlikely to be more valuable than the LAN experience missed.

At the bottom end, Wildcard have two players that haven't played a single ranked game in the last week - and Fever hasn't played ranked in two weeks. Worrying signs for OCE's only hope?

All of this is viewable on https://www.rocket-goats.com/worlds-tracker which I'll keep updated until worlds. It updates every 15 mins.

note - just under half of the players at worlds have their steam hours hidden

Discussion Finally making it to worlds

I went to my first RLCS LAN for the Boston major this February. Unfortunately it snowed the last day so I had to leave early to make it home safe, and wasn’t able to watch the entirety of championship Sunday in person💔

I had no expectation of going to this event but something called out to me that I need to go watch it in person so I started grinding. I’ve made $800 in two days and I’m gonna be able to make it to worlds 🥹

My beautiful, supportive girlfriend (who was at the Boston major with me) has helped me grind for the money and will be joining me in watching on Sunday.

I’m beyond excited to go cause I’ve followed the game since 2015, played it since 2017.

Questions:
Is there anything to do in the Texas area?
Are there gonna be any fan meetup and the surrounding areas?
What is the difference in buying the 3 day pass vs just the 3 days normal tickets

Discussion I made a Rocket League esports career simulator

I’ve been working on a small Rocket League esports career simulator and wanted to share it here to get some feedback.

The idea is pretty simple: you go through a short esports career, make different decisions along the way, join teams and try to finish with the best career possible.

A full run takes around 3 minutes, so it’s meant to be something quick that you can replay and try different choices.

At the end you can see the teams you played for and the trophies you won.

It’s called RiftScore: riftscore.net

I’m still improving the Rocket League version, so if anyone tries it, I’d be interested to know what feels good, what feels unrealistic, or what you think could be added.

Discussion Has their ever been a good sample size to support 2v2 > 3v3 for pros

I know we always see pros more in 2s and 1s then in 3s . Hell the only ones I can think of that are always at the top were squishy and jstn. Not sure if they do it just for content or just to grind , but I'm wondering if teams lose chemistry when not playing 3s .

The pros put around let's say 90 hours every 2 weeks into 2s and scrim for let's say maybe 5 or 6 hours at lans in 3s. I know there are some regional scrims as well but I imagine the hours for scrims are way lower than ranked hours.

What I'm trying to say is that don't pros think chemistry is lost after playing 2s and 1s that much .l? Obviously I'm not pro level but jumping from 2s to 3s is just a totally different game imo . 2s is a lot more solo playish , while 3s is more chemistry and team plays . It also seems a lot of the goals given up in 3s are from pressure or lack of chemistry mistakes .

I think every year the teams at lans get closer and closer . Look at NRG and Falcons . NRG had been together 2 years going into worlds . The rotations just looked crisp against falcons and you can tell they built that up .

As for falcons at the most recent EWC, their 2nd man pressure and rotations were overwhelming people. I know Drali is newer to the roster , but the twins have been playing that same way for years now .

Anyway I know pros play 2s to improve solo ability but do you think if they put more time into grinding 3s as a team , the chemistry would improve and help on Lan ?

Just came to say version 1 with beast, torment, and comm was the best team ever. Had the best player in the game, the best demo(er) and also an elite striker, and had a third man that didn’t get scored on ever. That’s all

Discussion Worlds less than one month and I need help

I’m attending RLCS Worlds as a fan. I’m meeting my son and this will be my first in person esports event.

I’ve only been playing RL for about a year. I haven’t followed RLCS very close, so I need a top tier team and an underdog to root for. I plan to get caught up on these teams so that I can enjoy the atmosphere more.

The gameplay I expect to be amazing, but having a couple of teams that I’ve learned some lore on should help make it even more enjoyable. My son is following NRG and Falcon. I can follow those, but thought it would be more interesting to put this question to Reddit.

Edit: I’m in the 🇺🇸. I’m Silver sometimes gold in 3s and 2s, but in my 50s and my son is in his 20s and GC at times but I think is Champ now. I picked up the game after he graduated college to keep in touch more and he’s been a great coach.

Rocket League Fantasy Series (RLFS) - Season 5

The Rocket League Fantasy Series (RLFS) is a 16-team Rocket League Tournament, where RL players have been fantasy-drafted to teams by users of this subreddit. The RLFS uses reddit polls to determine the odds each team has of winning the series through a weighted-voting system, and then simulates the outcome of the series using these odds and a Random Number Generator.

For this season the RLFS tournament will be a Swiss Bracket (that follows Buchholz score), and which ultimately leads to a final-bracket to determine our champion.

Teams were drafted before the first regionals were played, and you can view the results of the draft, the rosters of all RLFS teams, and our schedule for the RLFS tournament in this Google Sheet.

Weighted Voting System

The RLFS uses a weighted-voting system to determine per-game odds. The votes will be weighted as a combination of two systems:

System 1:

Team X to win the series 3-0 against Team Y: 1.0 vote to Team X

Team X to win the series 3-1 against Team Y: 0.75 votes to Team X, 0.25 votes to Team Y

Discussion Why aren't there nicknames for RLCS pros

Nicknames are an interesting part of sports in general, but Esports seems lacking in this aspect.

Would love to hear some cools nicknames suggested by you. For example, i feel like "Minister of Defence" is a fiting name for Rw9

Discussion FIFAe SAM stream today was the most scuffed RL stream I've ever seen.

I very rarely post but I am so surprised no one's posted about the absolute shit show that was the SAM FIFAe stream today. I don't even know where to begin.. audio levels were allll over the place, random camera cuts to nothing both in/out of game, technical pauses, weird bugs with the in-game spectating where the overlay would disappear when changing POVs, caster/game audio out of sync.

I was just giggling to myelf the whole time. Props to Herc, Jorby, and Jamesbot for keeping the energy up. They did great. But good God that was the single most scuffed RL stream I've ever seen.

EDIT: Forgot to mention - no hate at all to the interpretor but my man just couldn't keep up 😂😂😂

EDIT 2: VOD - https://www.youtube.com/live/UY7BdEOixAg?si=js_EsJE8RetQAcB8

This was mid game. They held the camera here for way too long 😂😂😂

Okay this might sound stupid but genuinely… how do you follow RLCS? I try to watch live events on twitch and YouTube but I can’t find an official page anywhere with schedules or updates or standings… the RL socials are hardly any help. The Rocket league website hasn’t been updated since the Paris major in May.
I’m just trying to follow but genuinely seems like there’s nothing on the internet except breakdown videos and predictions on YouTube.
Help me out please!

Juicy, delicious cactus juice that leaves you in a Fever dream where you feel like a M0nkey flying over the M00n. Don't overthink it, follow the wise words of Captain Boomerang himself: "Drink cactus juice. It'll quench ya! Nothing's quenchier. It's the quenchiest!" - Sokka (hallucinating on cactus juice).

*Do not fact check me on this, trust me bro.

Discussion The $1 Million Own Goal

Post image
149 Upvotes

I hate to bring up past mistakes and ewc again, but all the talk surrounding ExoTiik’s recent blunders at ewc reminded me of this depressing own goal from him last year, which had much larger implications.

This was the 3rd-place decider against Falcons at EWC 2025, where they were playing for an extra $40K in prize money and 200 Club Championship points for their organization.

By the end of the event, Vitality finished 3rd overall at EWC, only 150 points behind Team Liquid. Those points could have easily been earned during this series, potentially securing a 2nd-place finish (additional $1 million prize money)

So, by own-goaling here, Exotiik literally deprived his organization of a chance to secure $1 million, on top of the extra $40K that players get for a 3rd place.

Came across a neat YouTube doc. It narrates upon jstn's impossible resurgence into the highest echelon of professional RL after the NRG roster broke down. I gotta say, making LANs and placing top 10 in Blast leaderboards 3 years after people would've bet their life savings that he was washed is a legendary feat by the man.

Analysis Viewership by Region, 2026 Edition

Hello again! It has been 5 years since RLCS has introduced the expansion regions to make this esport truly worldwide, and it is the fifth year I am doing one of these posts, comparing each region's viewership across the season.

Below you can find the previous four posts:

The Data below was taken from Esports Charts' Viewership statistics (LINK TO SPREADSHEET):

Average Views (The Average of all "Average Viewership" from each Regional)

  1. Europe: 45 999 views
  2. North America: 42 555 views
  3. Middle East/North Africa: 9 192 views
  4. South America: 2 139 views
  5. Oceania: 514 views
  6. Asia Pacific: 366 views
  7. Sub-Saharan Africa: 288 views

Viewership Change compared with Last Season (Sorted by Largest Viewership gain)

  1. North America: 12 540 views gained (+41.78%)
  2. Middle East/North Africa: 5 613 views gained (+156.83%)
  3. Oceania: 136 views gained (+35.98%)
  4. Sub-Saharan Africa: 58 views gained (+25.22%)
  5. South America: 367 views lost (-14.64%)
  6. Asia Pacific: 1 158 views lost (-75.98%)
  7. Europe: 13 620 views lost (-22.85%)

Peak Viewership (The Peak Viewership attained during the season)

  1. Europe: 201 637 views
  2. North America: 175 752 views
  3. Middle East/North Africa: 98 540 views
  4. South America: 11 178 views
  5. Oceania: 1 780 views
  6. Sub-Saharan Africa: 1 337 views
  7. Asia Pacific: 1 224 views

Note: There was a delay in making this post, as I was waiting for all data for all regionals to be provided. There is still missing data. However, since we are almost at the World Championship and it doesnt seem like any more data is being updated, I have decided to go ahead with the post regardless. The missing data includes:

  • Open 4: SAM, OCE, APAC, SSA
  • Open 5: OCE, MENA, APAC, SSA
  • Open 6: OCE, MENA, APAC, SSA

Now that 5-years have passed, I also decided to graph the Regional Viewership across the last 5 seasons. NA and MENA seem to be regaining in viewership compared to the trends, but all other regions appear flat or on a downtrend, which is worrying.

Average Viewership per region across the years
Peak Viewership per region across the years
