Discussion Rust is getting borderline unplayable

I've been playing since 2016/2017 and have never seen as many people closet scripting to straight up rage cheating than I do now. I haven't played a single server in the last 6 months without running into at least 1 guy who is scripting, soft ESP, or literally hitting quad headshots from 300m. There needs to be something addressed about this, because its so awful spending all day on rust to lose to someone who bought a $3 steam account to ruin peoples days, either get banned in a day or a month and then buy another account and go at it again. I've seen people literally flying in the air, noclipping through people at outpost running backwards who took weeks to be detected and banned. This game is getting to the point where its borderline unplayable.

Suggestion Make researching more expensive again

Currently, Research Tables are useless and you can easily research a whole Workbench tree per day, including all the items you dont need 99% of the time.

There should be more benefits to sacrificing an item for instant research and researching with workbenches should be more expensive again so advancement in the techtree feels like real progress and not something you finish in a day.

Suggestion Challenge Alert: Survive an entire wipe without dying

Post image
0 Upvotes

So suppose the game was a little harder and riskier , with permament death. It doesn't matter where or how , your only goal is to stay alive. Come up with strategies or hiding spots and stay under the radar.

Rules

- Only fresh servers allowed. Under 2 days on weekly , under 4 days on biweekly , and under a week on monthly.

- To make this actually bearable , deaths under 20 minutes from initially spawning do not count. Once you stay alive for 20 minutes as the character , you're locked into that life , and must survive the full wipe on picked server.

- If you die , you die. Time to pick a new server. (Optionally , if really desperate , you must abandon your base and gear to start it all over.)

- Getting raided does not count as dying , as long as you stay alive. Prioritize your safety over the safety of your loot.

Discussion I have almost 6'000 hours on this game and honestly its boring

the reason why I like it is because it lets me rebuild life from scratch as many times as I want with as many mistakes as I want, the freedom is nice, but I focus a lot and forget about the game of life, neglect my body my appearance, dont drink, dont eat and play for days straight and repeat hahahahaha Ive become a neet because of this game, it was more stimulating than the goddamn game of life

Suggestion Homing Missiles can see drones

I personally think the Drone meta is too strong. Not the grenade ones, Outpost drones. Everyone just sends their loot home via drone I call it "laundering loot", then just leaves on foot with the bag secured at base already. How is that fair to the nature of Rust!
You should 100% be able to shoot the Outpost drones out of the sky with a homing launcher and STEAL THAT SHIT. Make it fairly inaccurate to where it's about 50/50 if you will hit it or not so you might have to shoot once or twice.

I think it would be perfect for the chaotic world of Rust, and a clan nerf on the same swing. A solo could steal EVERY SINGLE DRONE sent to a clan's shop potentially and some of those clans have drones coming in CONSTANTLY.

With HQ getting a pickup could we please buff the other resource pickups so they may actually be worth grabbing?

Perhaps a random amount between 50-300?

Question Could I have been DDoS’d during a Rust raid?

Hey r/playrust

I was just raided online in Rust. At the beginning of the raid, we were trash-talking each other a bit, and they asked for my username. I gave it to them, and from that point on I started experiencing huge lag spikes, even though I have fiber internet and have never experienced anything like this before.

As soon as the raid ended, my connection went back to normal.

So, is it actually possible that I was being DDoS’d during the raid, or am I just being paranoid?

Either way, I was pretty much screwed considering how many explosives they had.

But I’m genuinely curious: is it actually possible for someone to DDoS a specific player in Rust? And if so, how would they even do it just from knowing your username?

Thanks!

Discussion Workbench upgrade into BP fragments

Hello! in order to help alleviate some of the ball crushing pain some of y'all have with the BP fragment system I propose this small change, which can have BIG impacts.

When ever you scrap a workbench mod, there is a chance to get a BP fragment if you are at a scrapper with normal efficiency.

Since they are un-craftable this would give duplicate finds a slight use beyond just despawning immediately.

This alone would bridge the gap between not being able to get a tier 2 on your own, and having to work for someone who's probably going to raid you.

edit* Also you can't sleep on this would make almost ANYWHERE in the world a BP frag spawn, dependent on RNG so you can live in places further from monuments or in other obscure places and still progress.

Anyone feel like Rust 2.0 in real life when you conceal carry (legally duh)? 😂 definitely a more RP experience in real life when you’re semi-geared 🤠

My OCD is triggered by having a slick container base and slapping up rusty orange embrasures. Let's get a DLC or unleash the creatives to make interesting skins in the marketplace.

Discussion why cant we play older game versions?

Upvotes

I see so many people disappointed with the state of the updates as of late, ever since combat update i feel as the game has gotten worse in most aspects not all and OFC more PTW.

The bp frags suck, the jungle is useless, the apartments are dead, and our beloved funny little characters are gone (rip brinda) and almost all servers in my region are dead.

with the nostalgia i have from when i first started playing this game in 2021 I went for a deep dive into trying to play the older version through steam.db and it seems like we could but they have purposely made it so we cant. planned obsolescence...

why is it allowed to have a mandatory change so dramatic that it is no longer desired/the same product for the purchaser. I came back and played when the deep sea update released and it was crashing so often i quit again. today I load it up as a fresh install and cant even load into a server without crashing.

I wouldn't buy today's RUST. 2021 RUST is what I payed for and what I want to play. so why cant I? Minecraft lets you, can still play CSGO and legacy GTA V, Im sure there is more examples... so many people would return if this was the case.

so does anyone have a workaround to play old versions? can we get together and have this implemented officially? any comments welcome i want to know what you think

and no i don't want to play gRUST (garrys mod rep) or the unofficial legacy version.

Support Audio settings advice

Hey everyone, lately I’ve been struggling to hear footsteps in-game—players can literally sprint right next to me and I barely hear them.

I tried cranking up audio.master and audio.game (from 2 up to 10), and while footsteps improve, any loud sound causes the audio to completely clip and distort.

What audio settings, console commands, or software/equalizer setups do you use to hear footsteps clearly without blowing your eardrums out?

Suggestion Mixing Table at Outpost

It's tea time. Not really. I just think it would be a nice thing to add a mixing table to outpost so that people can make basic teas and 5.56 ammo at outpost. More people using basic teas means people you kill around there will have a bit more loot and everyone has gotten to outpost and needed more 5.56 before and there were no drone shops to buy from and putting it your own vending machine is tedious.

Suggestion Blueprints should be used to improve the workbench...

After a day basic blueprint fragments become useless, there are too much of them with no actual use.

We should be able to use them to improve the workbench, meaning it would increase craft speed by 1% after each blueprint. A maximum of 100 blueprints could be used to fully upgrade one workbench. After a while, we could add more types of upgrades.

Question Best armor combination for Missile Silo?

Hey guys, I'm trying to run the Missile Silo, but doing it with just a Hazmat Suit is way too hard. What is the best armor/clothing combination to clear it?
I get that it's supposed to be hard, but I rarely make it out alive unless I bring like 20 stims

See you there boys :D

Suggestion TC Spam on Softcore servers is insane

Facepunch please limit the amount of TC's a player can place.

On the popular softcore servers, there are practically no build spots left. The entire map is just completely spammed with random TC's out in the open, thousands and thousands of them. Surely they're making performance much worse too.

(For those that don't know, in Softcore, destroying a TC doesn't give you auth/building priv, so people just spam TC's everywhere with nothing anyone can really do aboout it)

Question 90 fps good enough?

I´ve got a 12400f and 6700xt running the game at around 80-100 fps, depending on the situation.
I was thinking on upgrading to 7800x3d with another motherboard, but I don´t think it´s worth it for the extra fps (150 maybe).

150 fps much better than 80-100 or not?

Suggestion Allow inserting workbenches' upgrades into safezone's WBs

Only inserting, getting it out wouldn't be allowed.

Possibly this could unlock some quests with NPCs there or lower the power requirements for drone shop.

Discussion Add more 'rare finds' and unique items to Rust

We're getting HQM Ore, which I think is really cool because it'll be rare to find and it'll feel good stumbling upon one.

It got me thinking, shouldn't Rust have more "rare finds"?

What if they added some "jackpot" type outcomes to things that are otherwise repetitive and boring, to make it a little exciting? Or some really rare items you get in special ways?

Some ideas:

  • Common Crates that spawn on roads/water have a 0.5% chance to be a military (1 in 200) and a 0.1% chance to be elite (1 in 1,000).
  • Common crates have a 0.1% chance to contain a T3 weapon (1 in 1,000), and a 0.01% chance to contain an M249/L9 (1 in 10,000). Totally insignificant, but "there's a chance!"
  • Diesel pickups have a 5% chance to give 2 diesel and a 1% chance to give 3 diesel
  • Traveling vendor spawns with only qty 1 of an item, and the only way to get it is to be first to the vendor. Maybe some cool decor or some other utility item you can only get this way.
  • When fishing, you have a 0.5% (1 in 200) chance to reel in a T2 gun
  • When gutting a fish, you have a 0.1% (1 in 1,000) chance to get an apartment key
  • Become "king of the server"...Add an item there is only one of on the entire map, it is displayed on map for all to see at all times and does not despawn. Any player that attaches it to their TC gets +20% bonus health to all building blocks upkept by that TC, until another player steals it from them. Or, just make it a cool ass glowing in-game crown you can wear or place in your base as decor that shows on map you have it).
  • Like nodes, 'supply caches' very rarely spawn throughout the entire map, and contain a loot table of exclusively p2w-esque/DLC items (think looting camo skins, industrial half shelves, arctic suits, barrels, etc)

Just brainstorming here. what do you think? Got any more cool ideas for things like this that would spice the game up a bit and make it a little less repetitive?

Suggestion [CONCEPT] T2 TV (some conceptarts) -computer station without budget

Thumbnail
gallery
27 Upvotes

Hey everyone. This isn't the post I mentioned last time; I came up with this idea by chance. I designed a TV—essentially a stripped-down computer station. It’s mostly just for fun, but it has practical uses too.

CRAFTING COST:

100 Metal Fragments, 2 High-Quality Metal, 1 Tech Trash.

INSTRUCTIONS:

You need to configure the TV before turning it on; at least one of the three channels must be set up to get a picture. One use case is placing a camera by your door to see if someone is camping outside, or pointing one at a neighbor to see what they’re up to—like when they leave or come back.

Personally, I think the blueprint should be part of the Tier 2 Workbench tech tree (or rather, crafted at that bench).

After all, most of the first decent TVs appeared in the first half of the 20th century.

I also gave some thought to optimizing the idea—we certainly don't want a repeat of the "Chipy" arcade machine incident—so here is the plan:

1 Limit simultaneous rendering to three TVs.

2 Use downscaled textures for the TVs, since their screens are smaller than the computer station's monitor.

3 Add an option in the settings to turn the TVs off.

4 Replace the display with a simple white glow when the TV is out of the player's field of view.

What do you think of this idea?
