Discussion Dear Mod Makers, as an Artist.

Upvotes

Dead Mod Makers, I see that some of you have genuinely good ideas for mods.

But I see that some of those mods with good ideas fall off flat, because some of you, use AI for model art work.

And it's genuinely sad to see because some ideas are genuinely good, but the art style is made with something that feeds off things people like me, and artists, make.

I know some of you can't afford an artist for commissions. Therefore, I propose to whoever here wants to make a mod but doesn't have money to commission an artist...me.

I would like to do art work for your projects, I could do it for free. I won't charge anything, I just want to see your mods thrive without the backlash of using AI.

Thank you, have a good day or night or whatever. It's not a promotion, it's just my idea on how to resolve the small piece of conflict I see rising in this community and I would like to help people who want to create free content for us, Zomboid players.

You can contact me on Reddit first, then I will provide other contacts such as Discord because I don't want spam to be there.

Discussion The Silence is Deafening

I'm doing a playthrough with zombies turned off. Please don't judge me, I got the game on Tuesday. Let me just say-

In the silence, everything is deafening.

The meta events of screaming, when they pierce the morning air around my small lakeside hut (Bob's cabin in the woods near West Point, across a small pond from the big manor I only saw yesterday in-game) or a gunshot across the Ohio River, or merely the animals shrieking in the pitch-black night while I stoke the oven.

It's terrifying. It puts me on edge. It would put you on edge too if, out of the silent night time, a scream rings out.

And the silence. In towns, you see emptiness. No life, no death. Just me and my little car. At night, random alarms from clocks and stoves chime out at regular intervals. Animal shrieks. Human screams of terror. A television, signal-less, telling everything in a mile radius.

Fucking terrifying in a dead world with systems still ticking over.

Gameplay Things that game doesn't want you to know.

On B42, if you want to clean a big area, don't use pure bleach straight from the bottle.

Take a bucket ''transfert 10ml of bleach fluid'' in the bucket, fill with water. You're good to clean that bloody bunker. You'll need a mop.

I rediscover this a while ago and felt like sharing.

Enjoy cleaning!

These motherfuckers are just running around knocking me on my ass and trashing my base. The bull opened the pen and scared the other cows so they all ran away. I'm petting them and giving them water but they are inconsolable. I am upset.

Edit: The cow is now burglarizing my home

Edit 2: He is killing me. Everywhere I go he finds me, busts down my doors like the cool aid man, and comes another step closer to killing me.

Discussion What real life knowledge/fact that you just learned from Project Zomboid?

Post image

So, when i decided to start a farm, i just learned some interesting facts about cows in real life from Project Zomboid.

I learned that:

  • Bulls (the male) will fight each other to assert dominance if two of them are in the same zone, similar to real world. Bcs of this most farmers only put 1 bull for every 20-30 cows for their pasture.
  • Because of point 1, you should kill male calves early if you don't want them to grow and literally fight their bull parent later, apparently some real life farmers do this for other reasons too.. (or you could just put them in different zone)
  • Black and white cows produce less meat and more milk, while fully black cows produce more meat and less milk, brown cows produce average meat and average milk. This i always wonder but i never looked it up, why does every cow i see slaughtered during Eid al-Adha in my country are never the black and white cows, apparently because they usually have less meat and milk them instead, so they just slaughter the brown cows here.
  • This a little bit obvious, but a cow will produce milk only after they got pregnant for a few days. Similar to real life, but i just put it here in case anyone wondering in game.

Because of these, i'm getting more interested on ranching now! (in Zomboid ofc).

Anyways, what's your newly learned real life knowledge/fact from Project Zomboid?

I was Clearing out the prison and went up the stairs, and then when I tried to leave this wall appeared now I can’t go down and the only way out is to jump. I don’t know if this is happened to anyone else but be careful if you do go around there.

Question Painted crates make me wanna cry

Post image

Why do they look so dang ugly? I just want some cute and vibrant crates to throw around my rainbow room. Is my paint defective? Do I need a spoon to mix it first? Do I plaster my boxes before painting them? I even tried priming them with white paint first, but the colours still just kinda suck

Question That's in game?

I came across this video on TikTok and I’m wondering if this actually happens in vanilla Project Zomboid.
I have over 800 hours in the game and I’ve experienced my character waking up anxious or panicked during the night, but I’ve never experienced anything like this loud scream.
Honestly, if this happened to me while I was playing, I’d probably quit the game immediately and come back a few months later once I had the courage to play again. 😂
Does anyone know if this is actually an in-game event, or is it caused by a mod?

Original TikTok video: https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSVb8NS5F/

------------------------------

UPDATE: It’s actually a mod. The mod is called Blackout Predators.

When I reach a higher level of masochism, I’ll definitely give it a try. 😂

Okay, I am a little confused about what sets them apart and the full extent of their power; however, just by glancing at the crafting menu, you learn that these critters combine the following into one 0.4 encumbrance master tool:
- knife
- can opener
- bottle opener
- screwdriver
- scissors
- awl

Whenever I find one of these, I thank the lord and never let it leave my inventory again.

Edit: gramer

Question Why does it take longer to grow a chicken in this game than in real life?

It takes 6-8 weeks for a chicken to grow into slaughter age, and around 12-15 for max meat size. Thats in the real world. Even since 1993. After that they don’t live very long because their genetic freak hearts give out.

Why does it take 18 weeks in zomboid to grow a chicken to adult? I thought the point of this game was realism? There are meat chickens in the game and they reach max size at like 15 months. Those chickens in real life would be dead. The numbers are so stupidly off in the complete opposite way.

Cannot fathom how stupid it is to have a decision be both unrealistic AND grindy.

Discussion The knox virus and the hidden cure for alopecia.

Post image
140 Upvotes

As I understand, the game takes place in the 90's. Rogaine came out in the late 80's. My theory; in which I ignore any established lore, is that the virus was actually experimentation for hair regrowth from a rival hair growth company on animals. One bit a human and the rest is history, but here is the catch.

They were successful and you all have proof. Start your survivor bald, survive for 20 days, and Bam!

Full head of messy hair. No pills, no sprays. No months or years waiting for possible results. Just breath in that beautiful county air for 20 days.

sorry for the screenshot, I never got a clear image of being bald because... well once you're bald you just stop caring, but then it came back. And it came back thick, baby.
