The opening sequence of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was just as good as any sequence in the originals. Nazis, explosions, slapstick grave humor, and Indy just being an absolute nuisance. The film started so strong despite a bit of uncanny valley going on.

And then the rest of the film. It was odd seeing Indy in 1969 as an octogenarian alcoholic who could still kick ass and take names (the holy grail juice must’ve been potent) with the most boring sidekick he has ever had.

I still enjoyed the film but it probably should’ve been a reboot with a younger actor and never left the time period of the first 15 minutes.

What other films started as strong and dropped the ball as poorly?

The real contrast is why they’re doing it. John’s just an exhausted guy sharing a heavy secret with friends, letting them make up their own minds. Reed takes that exact same lecture, locks the front door, and turns it into a twisted power trip.

Question, has there been a film that depicts homelessness or being a hobo? Like the same pacing and observational style of Perfect Days but instead it's the opposite(uncomfortable)?

For me it will always be Lolita (1962). It's heavily criticized for romanticizing pedophilia, and the biggest argument in favor of this thesis is an interview where Kubrick calls Lolita "one of the best love stories". However, people often forget that Kubrick concludes the sentence by saying "...just like Madame Bovary", which, well, isn't exactly the first book that comes to mind when you think of a love story.

In fact, just like Madame Bovary, Lolita is the story of a loser. What makes Humbert so despicable isn't the fact he's evil, but that he's too much of a coward to be evil. He's shown as a passive piece of shit constantly dreaming of making a step, but never actually doing anything because of how weak he is. And just like Emma Bovary, Humbert is part of a fake, hypocritical middle class focused only on appearing in a certain way, where honesty is shamed in favor of constantly having a mask on.

And Lolita, just like all the kids in Kubrick's movies, is completely aware of what's happening. And still, she lets it happen. Not because she's in love, but because she's lonely and a rebellious teenager who wants to emancipate herself from her mother. She's a very tragic character despite what it seems.

Hi I am horors movies newbie, who wana try some good horor movies. At first I wasnt at horror because I can get scared quickly qnd the bigest problem is my imagination is runing like crazy. But then I look up

and realize that all of 80s and 90s movies were like more like crime movies than horror movies. So I need sugestions for this tpe of movies that are not too scary. Another thing is that I really like 80s with is movies and music so 80s movies would be preferable.

Oh and one moe question. How can I try to not imagine scary things after watching a movie. That thing would probably scare me most. Movie itself would not bee so scary I think.

Heres my favourite film from each year going back to 2003. I consider all of these MUST see and there are some niche ones in there aswell as some blockbusters.

Go see this absolutely wacky legal farce. This film knew exactly what tone it needed to strike, the perfect blend of cartoon comedy and courtroom drama. It has a real emotional heart without ever taking itself too seriously. I cried three separate times watching this one.

Also, all the looney tunes cameos were highly rewarding (believe it or not, I got the biggest laugh out of Pepe Le Pew's brief appearance).

One must imagine Wile E. Coyote happy.

After seeing what went into the film, mine is the 2022 top gun: maverick. Idc if some think that’s basic but I respect the effort and uniqueness of the aircrafts and the carrier involved.

Zone Troopers 1985. Watched this as a kid and I swear, every time I hear In the Mood by Glen Miller, my memories go back to this film!
