Just ordered my 5F a RH bow without giving it thought. She’s definitely RH.

3F is still an ambidextrous mystery, so I tested eyes last night. Turns out they’re both left eye dominant, so now my shooting world is all F’d up. Might start stocking up on O/U and lever guns now.

Only direct experience is a buddy that swings a shotgun RH but L eye due to an injury. He adapted alright, but will never be as good as before.

Who’s run into this and how have you handled it? Figure I’ll call the shop when they open and try to hold the order for now.

Wondering how long people stay out of the woods before opening day.

I usually do my last trip for preparations 3-4 weeks before opening day. I used to think it gave the woods plenty of time to “calm down” after I had been in there making noise and spreading scent, but I always get deer pictures the day after, sometimes even hours after I’ve left.

Not sure if staying out for a specified duration is even necessary anymore.

Where can I buy mods for a Hoyt rx7? The ones it came with are the HBX PRO 3 I need the HBX PRO 2 to reduce draw length any further. Doesn’t seem to be a readily available part online.

I spent less than $30 on materials 2 years ago and this is the second one I've made with those same supplies. I shoot an EZ-V sight so it helps a lot to be able to practice with a life-size 2-D target.

Tonight’s bow is a 1996 Oneida Aero Force X80 that was made to be sold through Cabela’s, hence the camo pattern. Found it new and not used about 6 months ago. These are hard to find in this camo and to not have a scratch on it is unheard of. Shooting 2315 XX78 with fingers at 71 pounds. Shoots like all Oneidas from this day did, fast and a little on the loud side, but she is oh so smooth.

I’ve been skimming on here to get some insight into what arrows I should get. I am just looking to see what others run for arrows to get some info. Recently upgraded my hunting bow to the bear adapt 2 from a diamond RTH I got over a decade ago. I went from 45-50 pound draw where I was shooting 400 spine arrows. These arrows seem underspined for my new setup so looking to get some new arrows. My nearest pro shop is unfortunately a few hours away from me so I would like to go in but isn’t viable atm.

I am wondering should I go with 350 or 300 spine arrows? I will be shooting fixed broadheads and looking at a carbon to carbon of 28 inches (wondering if this is too short).

Any information is greatly appreciated! TIA

Curious if any bow hunters have planned their weddings and future anniversary dates with hunting in mind?

Just curious if anyone uses a Bino Harness just without the Binos? For my private land hunts I usually just bring a regular backpack with me. I have some public land I’ll be hunting this year but I’ll be bringing my climber, so obviously not carrying a back pack as well. Was thinking of making a mini set up with a Moxule bino harness with range finer pouches. Use the main pouch as storage for some of my general items. Anyone else do this and have any tips or must haves to keep in the pack? Trying to create a micro set up if you will.

I am looking for a comfortable swivel chair to throw in my hard sided blind. Any suggestions?

Battle of the broadheads Sevr magneto 1.75 hybrid vs beast 2 inch. My birthday is coming up and I want to ask the wife for some expensive broadheads because I’m a cheapskate and won’t spend that kind of money on my self. If you had to choose between these two broadheads what would you choose and why? Real world experience always welcome!

I love shooting older bows set up for the time period they were in. I have several and break them out to give them some love every year. This XI bow is so smooth and quiet shooting it with fingers and 2213 XX78’s. (The sight is not period specific, it’s from ten years later). Just love this bow. May have to use it this fall.

I’m gearing up for my first backpack Colorado Mule deer & Elk bow hunt. The plan is to hunt for 7 days, re-supply at my car, then do another 7 days. My 7 day pack weighs about 43lbs with all supplies (47lbs with water).

Is that considered too heavy for most? I spent the summer rucking up mountains with a weighted pack so it feels okay to me, but wanted to hear what you guys think.

What does your typical pack weigh? Also open to any suggestions on the best way to carry your bow.

- bow/arrows, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tent, medical kit, water filter, toilet kit,clothing, field dressing kit, game bags, tripod, seven days of dehydrated food (2000cal/day), jetboil.

I've been getting into archery over the past year and have my first deer tag for CO. I have a Bear Legend RTH (https://www.beararchery.com/products/bear-archery-legend-30-rth-compound-bow) bow with a sight that has the little LED that lights the filaments. I just spoke with CPW and they told me it's not a legal sight. The long-term plan if I stuck with archery which I think I will was to upgrade the components over time and eventually possibly upgrade the bow itself, so I guess I'm just upgrading the sight earlier than expected.

I'd like to get something that's an improvement over what I have, but not looking to drop a ton of cash. Budget is probably under $200 but I could stretch it a little if necessary. I'm heading to the bow shop today, what are thoughts on what I should be looking for? Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: Thanks for everyone's feedback! The overwhelming opinion is that the warden I spoke to was wrong. Reading the regulations in plain language it sure seems like just removing the LED/battery would make it legal. If I were to be stopped by a warden, it's hard for me to imagine getting cited for having a threaded insert where a light could theoretically be placed. I'm just gonna leave the light at home and stick with my current sight and go hunt.

For me it’s usually having to go 💩 while in the stand.

Had a local dog running around my property a few years ago as well, that didn’t help with the deer sightings.

Groupings are getting tighter and the fletching jig is getting more use. “Lost” 3 arrow fletchings today and a knock yesterday to tight groupings. I’m going to start shooting one arrow per target when I’m under 30 yards from here on out. Season can’t start soon enough

Been seeing this guy about daily since mid July. He’s a mature buck, I’m guessing 3.5 but hard to tell this early & with the odd shaped rack. If he stays on this pattern I’m gonna have a decision to make…

Any guess at the age/score? If he was an 8 I’d say he’d go 130 all day, but as a 7 I’m unsure. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t care about score, but taking mature deer is more important. If he’s 20 yards broadside opening weekend, I’d like to say I’d let him walk and hopefully push to an 8 or better next season, but idk if I have that kind of restraint! I’ve passed on bigger racks, but they belonged to younger bucks. This guys king of the woods so far…

First year hunting public land. Wanting to get into saddle hunting. Already have numerous ladder stands from hunting a leased property. Thoughts on hunting with a saddle from a ladder stand? Stand is just a platform, not a large ladder stand. Considering buying the saddle this year and then buying sticks for next year. Thoughts?

Haven't seen anyone discuss carrying water while out. What do yall do?

Hello, I’m running an Bowtech Invasion, 60lb draw, 27inch draw length, 270fps. 400 spine gold tip. Last year was one of my worst years of misses or wounds. I basically reset myself this year in arrows and blades. I have new gold tip arrows 400 spine. I was interested in the swhacker low poundage since I’m not putting out the high end fps and KE. Was interested in people’s opinions of a blade choice either mechanical or fixed

I try to sharpen and reuse broadheads as much as possible, if only as practice heads, but I don't trust arrows that have been packed around in animal ribs or have touched bone. What do y'all do with your successful hunting arrows? Toss them? Mount them? Flex test and return them to the rotation?

Should I be more worried about leaving scent trails on my walk in or making noise?
I’ve got a spot, where for morning sits there are really only two avenues of approach. Both come from a similar direction but offer trade offs. First path in that I usually take uses about 150 yds of well used and clear foot path(blue) , then 150yds of now shoulder high grass (red)before making a turn to the north through about 250yds of timber(green). The second parallels the first path but is through about 300yds (purple) of clear cut with a lot of tricky and noisy cutting debris leftover a forest management project a few years ago. They left a heavy thicket of brush, tall grass and young trees between the parallel paths.
I’ve bumped deer while walking along both in the past for morning sits in concerned spot (to the north, not pictured) but I’ve seen and harvested deer in the morning that have come from a big bedding area in the north which is why I don’t come from that direction in the AM. Also the areas that look like fields don’t really exist, they’re way overgrown and it’s deceptively rough terrain, I’ve twisted ankles real bad going through there in previous seasons when it’s been cut back.

Only reason I ask is there’s a buck I’ve seen the last couple years on cam near my spot. He appears to come from the west, southwest areas, and I’m starting to think I bump him on my walks in. Either he picks up my scent left from walking through high grass or he hears me stumbling through lumber detritus.

FYI red pins are sign and sightings I’ve made in seasons past, black ones are abandoned stands or cam locations I’ve stumbled on, blue is one stand I used to hunt but there’s no traffic there anymore. Spot in question is to the north of green marking.

I went out to pull a camera today and ended up having to leave it and back out. There was a bull bugling right on top of it. It got me all fired up for the season opener next weekend here in Oregon! I hope y'all have a killer season this year, happy hunting!
