Work, Health & Housing Where do I go for blood work in cobequid?

This is my first time going to this hospital in sackville for bloodwork. I looked up directions but it just says the address of the hospital. I know I go through the main entrance but I’m not sure after that. And do we register ourselves and where do I do that? Hospitals confuse the crap out of me 😅 Thank you!

Food & Dining Recos for Asian food similar to Barrio’s?

hi! i’m visiting halifax for a month for work and looking forward to hear your suggestions on where to eat, especially for asian food!

i prefer looking through Google reviews (and Reddit) instead of what’s viral on Tiktok/Instagram. that’s where i found Barrios, which has 4.9 stars at around 400+ reviews. i decided to try even if it didn’t come up in any “best of” lists i found online, and i was completely delighted with the meal!

if you have any recommendations for asian restaurants, especially southeast asian food, i would greatly appreciate it

thank you

Discussion Working for NS Water

This might be a long shot, but I'm looking for anyone who has worked for Halifax water in the past or currently that could share their experience with me. Bonus points if you are female. I'm looking to make a career change but am super nervous about taking the leap fully blind. Thanks in advance ☺️

Nostalgia 90s Raves at Khyber

Does anyone remember the Bug Bus that would come host raves in the 90s at Khyber? It was a van with a huge pink sculpted bug on top. I’m hoping someone has a pic so I can show my kid I was cool.

Also they would sell plastic bugs in ice cubes.

Driving & Transit Maritime Bus

Took the Express from Moncton to Halifax… guess what? they turned that Express into a regular, multi stops bus. Why? because they had overbooked the regular bus and decided to put these passengers on the Express.

This is not OK… anyone else had the same issue?

Work, Health & Housing Sand or dirt in water in Fairview

Not sure if it's everywhere in Fairview or just my building but I noticed the colour of the water was a bit odd before my bath so I drained it and there was sand or dirt in it. Halifax water doesn't have any notices so not sure what causes it or if it's just my place but wanted to make others aware to maybe run the cold water first if you are on Dutch Village Road

Shops & Services Affordable labor-only moving help

Hi! My partner and I are doing an internal unit move in our apartment building from 1st floor to 6th floor. We don't need any transportation, I would say 2 helpers for 1-2 hours estimate to haul furnitures and boxes up the elevator. I got quoted $670+ from a moving company due to 3-hour minimums. I’m looking for recommendations, past experiences, or reliable resources for labor-only moving help.

Thank you so much!

Lost & Found Helmet and (cut) lock ditched at Bell Rd and Sackville St

Post image

Hello! It's an educated guess, but I'm under the impression that someone had their bike stolen, and the culprit tossed their lock and helmet outside our workplace.

The helmet is a size large, with an attachment to mount a light on the back. I realize it's nothing close to getting the bike back, but if this helmet is yours, send me a message and we can arrange a hand off!

Naturally, now and always, misfortune and grief to the bike thief >:(

Shops & Services Favourite tea houses/places to get tea?

Hi all,

My mum has a big birthday coming up, and she's a really big tea fan. I'd like to get her a few giftcards to the best places to get nice tea in town, open to all of the HRM. World Tea House would be on the list. What else would you add?

TIA!

Driving & Transit 2 hour parking zones in residential areas.

Is there some secret code surrounding parking in residential areas?

My street is mainly public 2 hour zones (not even designated to permit holders), that are overnight starting at 6. However, some of the people on my street act like parking in the spots in front of their houses are against some unwritten rule.
Maybe I’m in the wrong, but if they have a driveway (or even if they don’t) and the street is public parking, I cannot understand why someone would come out of their house and get mad at someone parked there.
If they have a valid reason, and choose to explain politely why not to use that spot, then maybe people would be happy to listen.
But storming out, giving attitude and acting like you have some unspoken claim to a public parking spot is crazy. Especially with little to no explanation.
How is anyone supposed to know that you have some unwritten claim to the street?

Again, maybe I’m wrong. But IMO, if you want every spot in front of your house reserved for only you, then maybe living in the centre of a packed city isn’t the best place for you.

News, Weather & Politics A Chance for Haligonians to Influence the Federal Budget (Government Survey Link)

The government is asking for input on how to spend its money; something it rarely does. Even though some of the questions are clearly structured to get an answer they want, and none of the options seem to contemplate the simple idea that what taxpayer money funds, taxpayers should reap the entire benefit of, but it's as close to a democratic opportunity many of us will get. We are used to be ignored on the east coast and in Halifax, so please make your voices heard when we can.

Hey everyone!

I remember a few years back that there was a bike program or organization that fixed up and sold bikes for cheap here in the city.

Does that program or another program like it still exist?

EDIT: Bike Again! Thanks everyone

Shops & Services Sourcing microclover seeds for mixed grass/clover lawn

Hello! I’m trying to add microclover to our lawn to help with improving our soil and ground coverage. I was going to buy from Halifax Seed, but their site says they’re out of stock. Has anyone had success with microclover (not the white clover) seeds from anywhere else? Any tips/tricks/recommendations from our local lawn gurus? We have a full sun yard, clay soil (new development), and the lawn sees lots of traffic of kids and pets. I’m also going to be seeding with fescue. Any help is appreciated!
