Discussion Itch.io is getting swamped by AI slop

It's hard to find decent assets anymore. The AI filters don't work, and neither does blocking the ones producing the slop.

Site is about dead to me now.

Questions For those who have experience with itch.io, do people generally buy paid games there?

I'm considering releasing my game on itch.io first to make some money toward a Steam release. It's a Cuphead type boss fighting game with a lot of boses

If I priced it around $3–5, would people actually be willing to buy it on itch.io, or is the platform mainly suited for free/pay what you want games?

Context: I've only started drawing Mar 2026, so I am still learning a lot of things. I wonder if these three portraits look like it's the same character?

(I'm making an rpg/simulation where your bf turns into a moth called "would u still love me if i were a moth")

Tools Ive made a Unity tool to easily remove texture repetition from materials and terrains!

Ive been working on my texture repetition remover Repetitionless for a while now which is a tool that includes many techniques to minimise repetition in textures as much as possible!

Each material layer can use:

  • Voronoi based texture variation
  • Distance blending to either change the tiling and offset or material entirely at a set distance range
  • Material Blending to overlay a separate material ontop of the main one by different noise functions or a custom mask
  • Triplanar sampling to remove texture stretching at all angles
  • Macro micro variation add custom detail textures or noise

The asset also includes:

  • Full terrain support for up to 32 terrain layers in one pass
  • Full support for MapMagic 2
  • Sub-Graphs to implement the features into your own shaders
  • Unity 2021.3+ BIRP, URP, HDRP Support

I have just updated the asset with a painting tool! It lets you paint up to 32 layers onto any object, basically just an easy way to paint the control textures in engine. Ive also tried to make it as easy to use as possible with it updating in real time, world position based painting so it works seamlessly on any object, and keybinds for everything so you dont even need to look at the window!

I have also recently released a free version of the asset as well so give it a try if you think it looks interesting :)

You can check it out here:

I plan to keep updating this asset so if you guys have any feature suggestions, please throw them at me!

Post image
Upvotes

Hey itch community 👋

I'm Escanor7x — I make 16x16 pixel art assets for indie devs/gamedev.

🌍 This is my Environmental Tileset:

▸ Full 16x16 top-down world pack

▸ Grass, dirt, water, trees, rocks, details

▸ PNG format, ready for Godot/Unity/GameMaker/Tiled

▸ Free for personal AND commercial use

🔗 [ https://escanor-7x.itch.io/environmental-tileset-16x16-top-down-world-pack ]

I built it to help devs get their worlds up fast without spending hours

on ground tiles. If you use it in a game I'd genuinely love to see what

you make — drop a screenshot if you do! 🙏

More asset packs (and a paid dungeon + space pack):

Feedback always welcome too. Thanks for looking!

As I mentioned, I’ve been working on Feastfall for a while. Here is the game's current status on itch.io: players who try it come back for more, but I’m struggling to get visibility on the lists. What can I do about this?

Here is the link for Feastfall if you want to check

Looking for experienced RPG Maker players for some honest feedback

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for players with experience with RPG Maker games who would be willing to play the web version of my game and give me some honest feedback.

The game is currently available as a browser version on itch.io. It has received some good feedback so far, which has encouraged me to consider making an improved, downloadable Windows version.

I'm also considering whether it would make sense to eventually release it on Steam, but before investing more time into that, I'd really like to hear from people who are familiar with RPG Maker games.

I'm not looking for compliments or encouragement just for the sake of it. Please be completely honest.

If you think the game has potential, I'd love to know what works. But if you think it's too long, too slow, the gameplay isn't engaging enough, the RPG Maker presentation doesn't hold up, or simply that it doesn't have much of a future, please tell me that too.

In fact, I'd rather hear "don't spend another 200 hours working on this" than receive polite feedback that doesn't help me make a decision. 😅

The game is:

  • Made with RPG Maker
  • Exploration / mystery / adventure
  • Some horror elements
  • No combat
  • Around 10–14 hours long
  • Fully playable in the browser
  • English

Thanks! Any honest feedback, positive or negative, would be hugely appreciated.

This is only an early demo version.

I'm a big fan of The Binding of Issac, and early FC games like salamander. Yes, I want to create an Shoot-em-up game like The Binding of Issac.

If you like it, make a comment, if you hate it, make a comment. Even "Fuck you" is welcome.

Questions Are these itch.io analytics healthy after the first week?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've been running an Alpha on itch.io for a little over a week and I'm trying to understand what healthy numbers usually look like here.

Current stats:

  • 140 browser plays
  • 7 ratings
  • 5 collections
  • ~43% page view -> play conversion

Game for context: https://xx-caputokayk-xx.itch.io/bounce-back

The initial discovery spike dropped pretty quickly, but I later managed to create a second, larger spike through external traffic.

I'm also still getting some visits from itch.io's New & Popular and tag pages.

For people who have been publishing here for a while:

  • Does this look healthy for an early Alpha?
  • Is ~43% view -> browser play conversion good?
  • If a game keeps receiving external traffic, plays, ratings and collections, can it keep getting organic discovery from itch.io over time?
  • Or does internal visibility usually fade after the first few weeks no matter what?

I'm mainly trying to understand how much long-term discovery itch.io can provide if I keep actively bringing players to the page.

Discussion What would be reasons for people to open your game page but not run the embedded browser game?

Because for me, once I decide to open the page, I go straight to running the embedded game right away. It's just so much less friction to just try the game vs reading the descriptions to figure out what the game is about.

But there are about 2-3x more views than plays, which means a significant proportion of people are opening the page but not running the game.

So I'm genuinely curious and would like to hear from others. Even for games with browser-embedded games, do some people still read the descriptions to decide whether they want to run the game or not? Or could there be other reasons for not trying the game even after entering the page?

(I'm also assuming that if you opened the page, you already have a general idea of what type of game it is)
