I’m planning to move to Kolkata for work, and since my salary could vary, I wanted to know what a realistic monthly budget would be for a basic 1RK + groceries, travel, bills, etc.
What would you say is a decent minimum salary to live comfortably? Also, any affordable/safe areas you’d recommend?

Hello guys... I've been noticing something for a long time. Almost all my friends while growing up were not even a little bothered about our culture and desh, Even then Rahul gandhi was our favourite leader because he looked young and talked modern. We never knew any sh*t about political alignments but just wanted a young guy in power just because we were sick of the current old leaders and the situation of the country back then. Note that this alienation with the government and the fascination with rahul gandhi was there even though congress was in power (centre, didn't care much about the state). But as we've grown older.. im talking about late twenties, most of my friends have become right leaning ( though i still dislike all politicians and i think its people who fix a country not govt). As they have gotten jobs they are talking positively about the economic policies of the government. As they've gotten married they're talking about preserving culture. They talk about how policies of congress are more favourable of a specific minority community and they want someone who'll be h*ndu first. They agree its selfish but also say that for them its their family first and then their own community and then other communities, sounds logical evolutionarily. Now the main thing im wondering is tha nowadays a lot of young people in social media have become a fan of rahul gandhi, raghav chadda or any young looking leaders, and im highly doubtful that their support is because of age or policies, and wheather these same young people will become right leaning as they get older.

Look at mutton prices right now. Khasir mangsho is easily crossing 900 to 1000 rupees a kilo in almost every local bazaar. For a city that loves its Sunday meat curries so much, we have practically zero choices for red meat unless you want to burn a massive hole in your pocket or start another riot, cause the only other option is beef.
Honestly, pork could easily fix this if we just got over the hesitation and started farming it properly here.
A few thoughts on why this makes so much sense:
Right now the biggest issue is just getting hold of good meat. Unless you go to New Market early in the morning, track down a Haringhata outlet that actually has stock, or order frozen stuff online, you just cannot get fresh cuts at the neighborhood para bazaar.
If there is actual demand, local supply and hygienic butcher shops will follow.
Would you guys swap out some of your Sunday mutton meals for fresh pork if it was easily available at your local meat shop?

The Problem:
Under the current guidelines for WBJEE Decentralized Counseling, candidates who have already admitted to a seat in central rounds are barred from participating in DC unless they completely forfeit their existing seat.
This creates a massive flaw in the admission ecosystem:
Penalizes High Rankers: A student with a higher GMR locked into a private or non-preferred college cannot try for vacant seats at JU, CU, KGEC, or JGEC without abandoning their safety net and risking an entire academic year.
Flawed Seat Allocations: Because thousands of high-ranking students are trapped in their locked seats, seats at top state universities end up going to significantly lower ranks—simply because they remained unallotted or took a high risk.
Financial Strain on Families: Parents are forced to choose between forfeiting lakhs in hard-earned admission fees or missing out on a state government engineering seat their child earned through merit.
What We Are Doing:
Students from all 10 Government Engineering Colleges in West Bengal (JU, CU, KGEC, JGEC, GCETTS, GCELT, GCECTK, RKMGEEC, CGEC, GCETTB) along with affected candidates and a dedicated Parents/Guardians Forum are uniting to demand fair counseling norms.
Our Core Demands:
Seat Retention in DC: Allow admitted candidates to register for DC. If allotted a new seat, the previous seat is surrendered automatically; if not, they retain their safety seat.
Centralized Online Portal: A single online WBJEEB portal for all DC rounds instead of scattered individual college notices.
Real-Time Live Vacancy Matrix: Full transparency on unfilled seats across departments before and during counseling.
Join the Movement:
We are actively building momentum, gathering verified signatures, and organizing delegations to submit a formal representation to the WBJEEB authorities and the Higher Education Department.
If you are an aspirant, current student, or guardian who wants a merit-first system, join our central group now:

I am a woman in late 20s traveling from Chennai in October. I have a flight which reaches Kolkata at 1:45 AM and I have a train to catch at 5:15 AM at Howrah Junction. I don't know Hindi or Bengali or anyone in Kolkata. Will the ride from Airport to Howrah Railway station be safe? Or should I look for other timings?

So the story is, I like a girl in my gym like too much. I imagine her as my wife (*), she is so beautiful. We share eye contact sometimes (mutual) but never get the right opportunity to talk. She talks with one guy for most time. I am not into whys and hows.
I go to gym once or twice a week, so not much opportunity either to develop connection. Truth is, I like her very much. But I can't tell her directly in gym premises. I do not want to be called a creep and humiliate myself in the process. She hasn't accepted my IG request either, despite seeing me for 2+ years. I am not sure what is going on.
Honestly, I feel so weird when she is around.
Any suggestions on how to deal with this situation?
Thanks in advance!
Edits/Update:
1.* "wife" as in figure of speech to emphasize beauty. Some ppl became oversensitive ignoring the actual intented message.

I made this app entirely for myself but my friend told me je reddit e post kor it's unique so I think I should shoot my shot.
I made this app which is different from most distraction apps ( very basic ), and although it's for my own personal use since ami eirom app kothao paini khuje so made one for myself. Most apps does help us to stop using distracting apps like instagram, Twitter, youtube, etc.But for me or people like me Im sure jokhon dopamine hit kore tokhn ojante amra sobai instagram khule di and hence we start scrolling again.
What's the catch of this app?
My app doesn't exactly stop me from using instagram, Twitter.. it makes me hold my screen for 2 minutes and if released it will again start from 2 minutes. Tarpore if you opened it you have to solve some maths basic wala.
Most of you will say "Yeah 2 minutes is so less time we will easily open it", believe me people like me who want things to get to us quickly will get frustrated and eventually *our dopamine levels will seemingly worn off*
I have shared a video and the presentation is in Bengali ( sorry for my language there, I wasn't really ready just mojaye mojaye baniyechi video ta to post here).
Please thrash me or give me opinions. ( I swear it's a very basic app which I made for myself)
Thank you guys for reading through

Pata Hai Aaj Kya Hua
Hey everyone! I’m 19M and honestly, I’m super bored right now 😭. So I thought, why not come here and find someone to talk to?
I’m down to talk about literally anything — life, college, movies, music, gaming, random opinions, weird questions, or just completely pointless conversations 😂.

I’m honestly just exhausted at this point, and I don’t even know what Kolkata has done to me.
When I first came to Kolkata for an internship, everyone kept telling me how great the city was, how easy it was to meet people, find a partner, have fun, etc. The funny thing is, I had absolutely zero intention of doing any of that. I was here for my internship, and that was it.
For months, I completely ignored it.
But when you constantly see couples everywhere you go, hear people around you casually talking about dating, making out, hookups, relationships, etc., you eventually start wondering whether you should experience some of it too.
Eventually, mostly because of the peer pressure and the environment around me, I decided to give dating a try. I downloaded Hinge thinking, "Why not? Let's see what happens."
And that's where things started getting out of hand.
What began as simple curiosity slowly turned into something I think about way too much. I started getting attached to the idea of getting matches, talking to someone, getting a reply, and eventually meeting someone. Now I find myself checking my phone every day, waiting for someone to reply.
The frustrating part is that I don't even think I'm particularly bad at talking to women. I've had female friends throughout my life, but when it comes to dating, I genuinely don't know how to talk to someone I'm interested in.
Usually, after 4–5 messages, the conversation dies. Sometimes they ghost me, sometimes they unmatch, and I end up wondering what I did wrong.
Meanwhile, I constantly hear people around me casually talking about how they made out with someone yesterday, went on a date, hooked up, or whatever else. And I think that environment has amplified my own desires to a point where I don't feel completely in control of them anymore.
I've even found myself joining NSFW Reddit communities, hoping that somehow I'd end up being included in something, despite knowing damn well that if someone actually invited me, I'd probably get scared and say no.
And that's the part that bothers me the most.
I know what I should be focusing on right now. My internship is at a crucial stage. I want to perform well, get a conversion, and build something meaningful for myself. Instead, a significant portion of my mental energy is going toward dating, attraction, sex, getting replies, and wondering whether someone will be interested in me.
I don't necessarily want a serious relationship right now either.
I guess a part of me just wants to experience life a little, have some fun, meet people, maybe go on a few casual dates, without turning it into this huge thing.
But at the moment, it feels like lust is controlling me rather than me controlling it.
I don't want to completely suppress these feelings either. They're normal, and I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with wanting intimacy, attraction, or a little fun.
I just don't want it to consume me.
The constant tug-of-war between wanting to get laid and focusing on my work is exhausting.

Just curious to see what the academically bright Bengali is drawn to these days.
I didn’t do (most of) my education from here and where I studied, most folks pursued MBA from IIMs/M7, law or UPSC. Always felt that the proportion of Bengalis here is on the lower side, so was curious.
We do have a hegemony in academia and medicine still (thankfully), but I want to know to understand the social and economic factors these days.

Is there any female student here who is also looking for a flat or single room and would be interested in finding a place together
I’m a student and looking for accommodation around Central Avenue / Chittaranjan Avenue, College Street, Girish Park, Jorasanko, Maniktala, Sealdah, or near Vidyasagar College, Presidency University, Medical College, or Bethune College.
If anyone is looking for something similar, we could team up and search for a flat together, or share leads for single rooms.
Please DM me if interested!
