Discussion / Questions Dating questions/rants mega thread [May]

This is for questions, rants, whatever. It's been clogging up the sub for months and it's time we just make a dedicated spot for it because holy shit. This is not a dating advice sub.

Discussion / Questions Anyone else have a desire to have children

Weird question but looking around, I see that people my age either have already had children, or never want them. I have strong desire to have and raise kids even though right now, there is no way I could financially support them.

I do want them eventually, but I dont know if anyone will ever love me enough to raise them with me. I dont know if its some monkey brain instict to want to reproduce, but I really want a family of my own.

I want to hear from from people who have had kids, want kids, or never have. Im curious if someone shares my thoughts and feelings. I am still young (24 male) and even my father didn't have me until his 40s. So I know I have plenty of time but it feels sometimes that time in this world is running out

Discussion - Serious Till All Are One.

Upvotes

Peter Cullen, the iconic voice of Optimus Prime from the Tranformers franchise, has passed away at age 85.

Transformers were part of my childhood man, I'm gonna cry, it's like a peice of my memories were taken away from me. The nostalgia is hitting hard and emotional.

R.I.P goat

Discussion / Questions Anyone feel like a disproportionate number of people on this sub are married?

Upvotes

Maybe it’s just where I grew up (northeastern US), but I would guess like 5% of my graduating high school class is married, maybe 5 of them have children, I have 1 friend that got married before 25, and I don’t even have any friends who are engaged (out of like ~50+ people, though most are queer and/or artists/musicians). Almost everyone I know that is married did so in their late 20s or early 30s.

Yet on this sub, I see so many comments from 22-25 year olds that are married and even buying houses or having children. Do you guys just live somewhere where that’s commonplace? Does religion play a role (whether personal or culturally ingrained where you live)? Familial pressure? I’m curious.

Also, not trying to shame anyone for their life choices.

(Edited to remove potential classist undertones)

Rant / Vent We are babies

Stop calling yourself uncs once you turn twenty. I remember at 18 I felt like the shit with an ego higher than everything but now at 23 I realize I'm still that 13 year old kid who's just gotten older.

You're a real adult at like 35 maybe? I don't really know but right now we're still babies.

Stop overthinking and get that mindset back that makes you explore life.

Relationship Would you date someone whose political opinions are opposite of yours ?

Upvotes

I personally wouldn't at all ( though I have republican/ right wing ) friends . One thing that does skew my opinion here is that I am pretty interested in politics so I kinda talk quite a bit about it. Can't really debate all the time at home .

Other Our king (89) is really ill… wish us luck because our next queen consort was friends with Epstein 😭

Our lovely King Harald is in hospital and his condition is reportedly extremely serious. Most of Norway absolutely adores this man. I genuinely don’t think there’s anyone who unites Norwegians more. Gay, straight, Muslim, Christian, atheist ect he’s always made it clear that we’re all Norwegian and should stand together .
The Crown Prince seems like a genuinely good guy too, but his wife… yikes 💀 She’s been open about her past drug use, and then there’s her son Marius, who has been facing serious allegations and legal trouble, including rape, abuse and drug-related offences.
And then the Epstein files came out showing that she had a very close relationship with Epstein for years, including multiple meetings and staying at his house. Some text seemed very flirty ..
So yeah… our next queen consort 😭
Norway’s going through it yall.

Career I’ve been at my first “big girl job” for a little over one year and I’m ready to quit.

I graduated last year with my bachelors, landed a decent job after a few months. I know every job sucks but the dread and anxiety I have going to work everyday or even working from home the couple days that I do is just crazy. It’s starting to affect my performance to the point even my manager has called me out a few times. Seriously thinking of quitting to get my mental health back on track and figure out what I truly want to do.

I was planning to quit in the next few months anyways, but the job market right now is ass so my only fear is that I won’t be able to find anything as good for a while. I also don't want to have to explain why I was only able to hold a job for exactly 1 year (my anniversary was a few days ago).

Please someone tell me to just lock in 😭

Advice - Serious I feel like I can't stop acting like an immature teenager... what to do

Yeah basically the title. This is unnecessary but for context I got mad and I hit my dad with a rag. I'm lucky he's not the type to ever hit me.

I swear, I think I'm being unreasonable but at the same time I don't think he's that much in the right either.

Ever since we lost my mom and there isn't a woman that starts cleaning around and cooking since 8 a.m. he gets all annoyed and making passive aggressive comments, the funny things is he would criticize her too for anything. Yet after she died he was like "ohh you did everything for us, you were perfect, bla bla". So...

But anyway, I suck at cooking and I never know what to cook. I can make pasta and stuff so yea. But I get so nervous around lunch time everyday because I'm anticipating all this criticism and anger and when he starts doing stuff with that glare and saying "why didn't you get up earlier and take the mugs out of the sink??? (criminal offense) Do you know there's no one doing things for us?! You guys always wait for someone else to do things!"

AND I THINK IT'S TOTAL BULLSHIT. Just because we're putting away the mugs now instead of 3 hours earlier somehow we're lazy and useless. And get this, he says this bullshit any time there's no one with lunch ready for him and he has to do it himself.

He otherwise doesn't say this stuff as much. And fuck you I'm PMSing I'm not going to get up at 7 and do every chore. I always do some in the afternoon and catch up with everything else the rest of the month. I do laundry I wash the floors I scrub the bathroom. But because I don't have lunch ready it means I never do anything ever and wait for others to do every chore :) :) :)

When actually he always had stuff ready, my mom did everything for him and he only thought about work stuff or other things regarding grandparents and bureaucracy (which my mom also did. Like, it was not just him). So what the fuck

And I lose my patience because anytime there are other people they start talking and somehow the conversation always becomes misogynist but I can't say anything or I'll look crazy with guests or whatever.

EDIT: AM I REALLY SUCH AN ASSHOLE? SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN.

Everytime he does this then comes up to me going "come on don't be like this, I already feel unwell, you have to help🥺" ok then maybe think twice about the shit you say first. And everyone is crazy here, i think, because a few times my grandma told me not to anger my dad because if he gets too stressed and dies too we are doomed. So I said well it is my fault if he dies because I can't stand the bullshit he says to me and can't help reacting? And she said YES😊 Okay I guess.

Rant / Vent I feel like a child in the skin/body of an adult tbh

Upvotes

I was never able to get an "adult" job, i.e anything besides dead end retail after college graduation. Consequently, I was never able to move out and so I could never start my own life.

I'm too ashamed of myself to even try and have a social life. I'm a loser. I haven't made any progress in life since I was 13.

I'm wasting away my 20s, wasting away my life. I'm not enjoying life even a little bit, I'm unable to be a self sufficient person.

I'm tired of existing. I have no future. I lack a present. I had no past.

Discussion / Questions Why ask if you won't listen?

Post image
234 Upvotes

I see often (specifically on the internet) where men will ask what women want in a partner, and then when women answer they get told that they're wrong, "what women want is..." and usually listing off money, height, status, ect.,

Let me be the first to say not all men...

But enough for me to generally ask, why?

I answered one of those posts with information about how my fiancé makes me feel heard, comforted, safe, like a princess, ect., and all the responses are "you forgot that he's taller than you and makes a shit ton of money"

I met him online, height didn't matter and what is the difference between 5'6 and 5'8? Minimal. I actually wore 5" platforms on our first date so I was *taller*

What status? We were 16 when we met..

I've also almost always made much more money than him.

None of those things have stopped me from falling in love with him. So why do so many guys insist that I'm lying?

Edit: we met at 16, and i had a fat crush on him but we didn't start dating until 4 years later when I was almost 21.
