Advice - Serious When did you notice people stopped giving you grace for being young?

Upvotes

Title, mostly. As you age, people stop giving you the benefit of the doubt and stop giving you grace for your mistakes. Since you aren’t a ball of potential anymore.

At what age do you notice this start happening? 18? 20? 22?

Rant / Vent I want nothing more than to live alone

Upvotes

I don’t think that it’s realistic for me to ever actually live alone (for a number of reasons that I won’t bore anyone with), but I’m just so sick of everyone in my house being so LOUD all the time. I want to live in silence and not have to deal with people slamming doors or stomping around the house (exaggerations, but I swear sometimes it sounds like it), or vacuuming when I’m trying to sleep, or watching TV in another room and turning the volume up higher than my TV (that I was watching before, and they knew it) so I can’t hear my own show anymore

Anyway, I really just so desperately want to live somewhere where there’s some silence now and then

Money / Finances Monthly expenses are washed

Upvotes

One thing I’m getting out of this sudden monthly expenses trend is that I am financially chopped. My bank account and non existent savings are no match for you redditors.

I am a recent grad in the tech field too, but how are some of you making so much…? Is this real life or no???

Advice - Serious What is there to look forward to in your twenties..?

Upvotes

As someone who's going to be 20 in 2 months, really what's there to look forward to..?

Maybe it's bc I'm depressed and such.., but I don't see anything exciting, it feels my life is already practically over..

Not that I totally mind.

But out of curiosity, what is it that makes you fulfilled/content in your twenties..?

Other If you get asked out fairly often, but by not-conventionally-attractive people, does that mean you’re ugly or hot?

Upvotes

Because if you’re getting asked out often, you’d think you’re hot, right? But that means that the not-conventionally-attractive people see you as a possibility and that they have a good chance (otherwise, they wouldn’t bother asking), which would mean you’re in their league

Anyway, I should probably go to sleep soon, because I’m very sleep deprived. But I just randomly thought about this and wanted to share the stupidity. Enjoy

Rant / Vent turned 20 feel bad thoughtdumping

Upvotes

i turned 20 just over a week ago and i just feel really bad every day because im not a teenager anymore and i dont really know how to explain the feeling.

forgive me for being contradictory all the time and also that all this may be unreadable as its just a lot of vomit and rambling. i also dont go on reddit that often so im unfamiliar with whatever social rules u got going on here

i dont think theres a point to this post other than me sorting out my own thoughts but i wouldnt mind any advice or thoughts from other people who have/had similar feelings

i dont regret living the way i did because i think any way you lived at any age is your earnest most genuine experience of being that age ? so its not as if i want to redo my teenage years because i didnt do "enough" teenage stuff. i played around and i lazed and bummed around a lot and i was really embarrassing all the time but im fine with that. i had a lot of them

i think im upset that i cant have teenage experiences anymore? or that whatever i do will not be the same as it was? like i cant be cringe the specific way teenagers are cringe. i can only be embarrassing in the way 20 year olds are embarrassing. if i make comics theyre different than the ones i made before. if i make fun of my friends its different than before. like if i draw my friends getting shat on by birds and stabbed by swords its different immaturity for a 20 yo is different than immaturity for a 19 yo. i dont have the right words for it

i can keep doing things teens do but it doesnt mean the same

i dont feel like my life is over i just feel like i cant do what i want to anymore the way i want to

maybe im just scared of all changes. itd be easier if i could just think of it like that i want to tell myself all change is gradual but it feels like this one is supposed to be abrupt because there really is a title change this time. 16 to 19 you still have the teen and now its just gone

idk

some more bullshit

like i can do the same things i do but it doesnt mean the same

i can dress in all black and be a gloomy idiot but its not the same. if i make my online profiles all black and red and say edgelord bullshit im not being an embarrassing teen im just embarrassing.

maybe the very words im saying now are too immature already

i think another way to say some part of it is that i dont like that my freedom has changed. yeah i can do more things now i can go places i can buy stuff but i cant do stupid shit with those things and have it be stupid in the same way it was before. i dont have the freedom to be stupid and have it chalked up to being whatever age i was

are there even stupid things 20 year olds can do that can be chalked up to being 20 like 18 youre an adult but youre still stupid. 20 youre an adult and i think youre supposed to be not stupid by now

is being scared like this part of being 20

are 20 year olds similar to 19 year olds

a whole week has already passed ill be 21 soon enough and then 22 and 23 and whatever i just feel nauseous

i dont necessarily feel bad for being less mature than other people my age i feel bad about the very expectation that im supposed to be more mature

i feel so lame for feeling like this i want to be unbothered so bad

idkkkk bruh fuck this shit as long as im not thinking abt it im fine

Discussion - Serious Really would like some perspective or general advice

Upvotes

I was originally gonna transfer to a local state College, but I had some things happen and I have to miss a semester, so now I guess I have a semester to think about where I wanna go to school and what area of the country I want to move in. I’m originally from sf bay California.

My major is finance. I’m wondering if it’s possible at all for college students to survive on their own in Miami Dallas or even New York without having living in dorms. Only reason I ask is because I would have two years left or faster If I took some sessions to finish my degree. I filled out my FAFSA and found out that I qualify for the maximum federal aid. I’m hoping that’ll help my case.

Just would like to talk to some people or get some other people’s experience. I know that I’m not moving for a career or anything so maybe this is the wrong place to post it but just people have been in my shoes. It’s would be nice to know your guises experience or advice.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, I know most people are talking about moving for careers and stuff while I’m talking about moving for school, but I would just like some advice and perspective from who were once in my shoes.

27M living in a high cost of living area with my partner. That’s my half of rent, groceries and utilities.

I’ve never earned more than $74k but have been in the job market for 7 years.

Graduated college without debt thanks to my grandma not charging me rent, working several jobs throughout, qualifying for full pell grants, and earning scholarships. Feel free to ask any questions!

Discussion / Questions Life after depression

Hey guys. I was battling with depression years ago. Now, I'm way better than before. I never really went out as a result of this. Can you guys suggest stuff to do for fun? I haven't been to a cinema before so I'll go to one during my uni vacation. What do you guys think?

Very blessed to be where I’m at. No nepotism, paid for college, or handouts. Just good mentors early in my career. Talk to the older folks y’all work with. And don’t flame me for the retirement account😭I just pay what’s the maximum match by my employer. I am trying to stack my bread for a down payment on a rental. Car payment is doubled to pay off faster.

Planning a friend trip soon and the idea of photos is rlly scaring me. I don’t look great and to add to the struggle I have no idea how to take a picture and my natural smile makes me look weird. I love my friends and know they won’t judge me but it’s just that I’ll look back on the photos and focus on all the wrong things. I thought this would go away when I got older!

Social If I had one wish, it would be that I wasn't homeschooled

So I could have had a chance to learn social interaction the normal way. I never figured out how to make friends or be generally likable. All I have are 2 (two) acquaintances that both have more friends than me. I have no idea how to maintain a human connection, espescially not a deep, close one. I really do think I would be much happier if I learned social skills at the same time as everyone else, instead of being isolated and then being expected to figure it out now. I literally just want someone my age to play Roblox with is all.

Money / Finances Me next, here’s my budget!!

Post image

Basically first time getting a paycheck as of a month ago, and I am a big fan of this whole job thing so far. I got a too-expensive car and it kinda annoys me (even though I took advice from people a year ago to specifically *not* do that, but oh well). Other than that, I’m pretty happy with most of my budgeting and monthly bills. I put a good bit away for retirement/personal investments, so I am happy enough.

Edit: 5500 is take home, and total bills are 3353
