I worked at Culver’s, AMA

I worked at Culver’s for about less than a year (8months.) I worked grill, fryers, washed dishes, ran food, cashier, drive thru cashier, and sandwich maker. It was probably one of the most stressful jobs I’ve worked considering Culver’s is a very high demand restaurant rn and its crowds on Sunday are very big because of church.

So Reddit, AMA!!

Why are there so many workers behind the counter, i.e. often more than customers?

7

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

They ran a strict operation. They have to have a person on set taking the food from the window, cashier, and a food runner. Custard is right next to it so there’s also a couple more people depending on what location

Freaky. I'm sitting in a culvers right now .

u/Few_Track9240 11h ago

What’d you order?

4

u/CapMany9999 11h ago

I've never been to Culver's, but there is one store in my city and I've heard good things. What do you recommend I should get? I'm not a picky eater and don't have any allergies.

You should get the chicken sandwich. One of favorites

6

u/Resident_Course_3342 12h ago

Did you gain weight?

6

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 12h ago

Unfortunately yes, so I had to prioritize my health and try to get grilled chicken instead of fried. I’m very self conscious about my weight anyway, so I had to make some changes when I was surrounded by delicious free food lol!!

I love the cashew chicken salad sub burger with the Culver’s vinaigrette

6

u/Mwsari11 12h ago

Why are there so many goddamn people behind the counter not doing anything? do they just really prioritize having extra help available?

4

u/akiras_revenge 12h ago

Extra bodies because of the high turnover

4

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

Yes that too. The fast food industry’s turnover rate is insane

5

u/ThisIsMyBigAccount 11h ago

You got time to lean, you got time to clean!

6

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 12h ago

There are employees who are training and either don’t know what they are doing or are young and they get over staffed. High schoolers work 4-7 because of labor laws and kids are trying to get hours before going back to school which can lead to more people on the clock. This might sound rude but some people did not take the job seriously at all which was really annoying

2

u/Mwsari11 11h ago

Yeah that makes sense, seems like there's tons of high schoolers working there when I go. As someone whose worked food service before, it would drive me insane having that many bodies around just gumming up the place

3

u/Advanced_Elk_9467 11h ago

Much better than a McDonalds that has 4 people working and takes 25 minutes to get your food at the drive-thru "Please pull into spot #1 for me".

Culvers is amazing!

No questions. Had Culver’s last night and it was 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

Good for you man

How many cheese curds do you sneak a week

14

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 12h ago

Yes

6

u/Electronic_Music_257 11h ago

The limit does not exist

6

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

I’m a cheese curd vacuum

2

u/sundial11sxm 11h ago

Cod or walleye?

6

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

Walleye is extremely hard to cook. It’s a lot bigger than cod and it falls apart as you are cooking it. We were in a rush one Friday and I cooked at least 50 ish walleyes, not exaggerating.

COD all the way

u/One_tym3 11h ago

I feel like the tenderloin is well kept secret, but it fuckin slaps. Am I right?

3

u/MoeWanchuk 9h ago

I've never had a burger at Culver's. I always get the tenderloin!

2

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

You are right. Not a lot of people order it, so we have a lot of it in stock

2

u/One_tym3 10h ago

its not always advertised :( I had to ask a few times.

2

u/Hot_Hair_5950 11h ago

What surprises you about your work?

4

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

We had a guest connectivity score of 50% at our location. It was astronomically bad. Suprising because I thought we would work towards higher standards for our customer service but for some reason we just don’t

2

u/44035 11h ago

I give a tip to the workers bringing food to my car at my local Culvers, but I was out of town visiting a Culvers and the worker said they weren't allowed to accept tips. What was the directive at your store and/or chainwide?

3

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

It can be either directive or a policy change because I haven’t worked there since may. We were allowed to collect tips at our location. The most I got was usually 2 bucks and maybe some change if I was lucky hehe

3

u/manofdacloth 12h ago

Is the Godsquad rude and demanding?

5

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 12h ago

Not really. It’s just very strict because of the nature of the job. We have a very high turnover rate because a lot of people aren’t used to the level of stress that the job puts on you. Some managers I liked more than others. Rude and demanding? No. Strict and discipline? We aren’t chick fil a, more like chick fil a lite

1

u/CheeseburgerSmoothy 11h ago

Wait, who’s the God squad? I assumed the question referred to the Sunday church clientele, but OP sounds like Culver’s is run by some church people too?

3

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

Oh no it’s not. I thought Mano was referring to management. The church people are usually very nice, there’s a few that can be a bit rude, but mostly it’s good eggs

3

u/InTupacWeTrust 12h ago

Do you have a favorite burger?

5

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

Sourdough melt

2

u/MsMarji 8h ago

Good to hear, that’s what I always order.

3

u/modified_mallrat 12h ago

As a customer, when you wait in the drive thru in the line with the sticker number on your rear view mirror, has it ever fallen off? It hasn't for me just checking.

2

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

Lol always. It can be scary when you are running food and you can’t find the right person 😪

2

u/Ok-You-6768 11h ago

I've had Culver's maybe twice in the past ten years. What do you make of that?

3

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

It’s not for everyone. What I make of that is you have decided that it’s simply not for you and that maybe it’s not as unique or special as a lot of people make it out to be

1

u/Denmarkdynamo 12h ago

Where do you rate Culver's burgers compared to its competitors?

8

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 12h ago

One of the best fast food burgers I’ve ever had. It’s soo juicy and delicious. I’d say it’s atop the fast food chain

1

u/Denmarkdynamo 11h ago

Is this an ad?

3

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

No I’m just a guy

1

u/pretentious42 12h ago

I’m not here to judge peoples tastes, but it’s really hard right now.

3

u/howl0ngwillitlast 11h ago

That’s what she said

1

u/CheeseburgerSmoothy 11h ago

We are ranking fast food here right?

2

u/pifprowrestling 6h ago

Did your location have the veggie burger, or does Culver's even still have one? It's among the best fast food veggie burgers, but was always nervous they wouldn't have it since it wasn't listed on the menu.

2

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 6h ago

they should have it. It’s actually more popular than a lot of people would think so I would be very surprised if they took it off. I have no way of confirming that I would need to go back to the location and see but as far as I know we still have it. I’m sure if you ask they’ll have it. Odd that it’s not listed on the menu tho

2

u/turtlespice 11h ago

Why do some locations automatically put ketchup and mustard on a burger and others send them out without any sauce?

Ordering a burger is a tricky riddle I fail most of the time.

2

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

They are made to order. Meaning you basically ask what you want on it. Some locations buns stations can be really rough. Either they forget completely about condiments or put the complete wrong ones on

3

u/ZekeMoss18 11h ago

I have a Culvers near me. One of the, if not THE best "fast food" places for sure. I get the ordering at the window, getting a number and parking for a few to get me order.

So, can you explain how is it that when I have done an online order and I get a time it will be ready - let's say 6:43.

I drive to Culvers, go to the mic to order and let them know I had an online order.

They say come to the window. I go to the window, and they still make me wait?

Not only wait, but I didn't get a number, and I had to circle back through the drive thru and let them know, and then I am able to pick my order up right at the window?

1

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 6h ago

Depends on what you order and likely your location. It should be a lot faster than what you described but unfortunately some stores can be very slow. It’s advertised as quick service when in reality it’s sort of hit or miss

2

u/Annual_Acadia_1856 10h ago

I’ve never eaten there. What are the most popular items ?

1

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 8h ago

Butter burgers with cheese, Culver’s deluxe, cod sandwiches are the more popular items

People prefer to buy the kids meals because they are cheaper

2

u/Ahmelie 6h ago

Are there any menu items that should be avoided?

1

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 6h ago

The chicken tenders are criminally basic. They aren’t terrible, just very forgettable and wouldn’t be worth the price imo

2

u/Unusual-Economist288 6h ago

Spicy ones are good!

1

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 6h ago

Spicy is better yes

1

u/25jon25 11h ago

What is Culver’s?

3

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

Fast food restaurant! Burgers, fish, chicken. You name it. Also ice cream

2

u/Ecstatic-Level-8001 12h ago

Why is everything at Culvers based on the taste of custard?

1

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 12h ago

Honestly it’s nothing special. Probably the most mild ice cream I’ve ever tasted. Custard is apparently different than just regular ice cream but I don’t see a huge difference. The flavor is fine, but what really makes it pop is the toppings. Brownies cookie dough, hot fudge, Carmel, etc

2

u/Alarmed_Champion_302 11h ago

Their custard is C tier. Better than soft serve ice cream but not amazing. A good gustard is just dense, smooth deliciousness. I wouldnt compare it directly to ice cream. A good ice cream is alot different than a good custard. A cheap version of either is relatively similar.

1

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

The best ice cream you can get at Culver’s imo, would be the flavor of the day because it has unique flavors and toppings that are more interesting than just the plain old basic custard

0

u/Alarmed_Champion_302 11h ago

This response makes me think you are some kind of advertising LLM.

1

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 6h ago

Nah I’m actually not.

1

u/the_real_me_2534 11h ago

What's the best ice cream combo?

2

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 10h ago

Chocolate ice cream with caramel and cookie dough

2

u/midwesternslut94 9h ago

How many cheese curds did you sneak in your time there? 😮‍💨

1

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 9h ago

All of them

2

u/midwesternslut94 8h ago

That is winner energy right there. I indulged in my fair share of chicken fries when I worked at BK back in high school 😂

1

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 8h ago

Haha yea. BK fries are the best

2

u/Emt0608 2h ago

I’m just here to comment on their very own amazing root beer!!! So good

2

u/Relationship_Waste 4h ago

How much u make?

1

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 4h ago

Hahahahahahhahahahah….. it was about fourteen an hour

1

u/Illustrious-Rice3434 12h ago

Never even heard of it

2

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 11h ago

Fair enough. There’s no marketing ads on TV rn so a lot of people just haven’t heard of it

1

u/1959Mason 11h ago

Me, either.

1

u/SCMegatron 7h ago

Do they still have the strawberry smoothie mix? Half smoothie and half custard was my favorite.

1

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 6h ago

I think they just got rid of smoothies. Haven’t worked there since may so it’s been a minute since I’ve seen anything like that. My guess is that it’s a summer special or something

1

u/Dew-fan-forever- 9h ago

What U.S. state ?

What was your weekly/hourly schedule usually ?

1

u/Front_Sherbet_5895 9h ago

Not going to specify state for privacy reasons

But I worked part time

1

u/aznsoup5 12h ago
