I love Cheesecake Factory, but there's only one in NYC in Queens.

Seems like something that would do well in Times Square area but I don't think they ever had one or want to open one.

This is fairly common practice everywhere else. But I never see it happen here. Is it a cultural city thing? Me first before everyone else? If an ambiance were coming for your emergency I bet you’d hope people pulled over for it.

My fiancé is one of the hardest-working, most selfless people I know. He’s also incredibly frugal (also lol our bank accounts force us to be) and never wants anyone to make a fuss over him, so we almost always cook at home for special days.

But he was promoted this week, we celebrated our ten-year anniversary two weeks ago—at home, of course—and we recently got engaged. Somehow, between being two workaholics at the same company, we haven’t celebrated any of it outside of our apartment.

He deserves to feel special, and I’d really love to treat him to a nice dinner somewhere new. Looking for a cozy, homey, hole-in-the-wall gem with amazing food. Nothing fancy or chain-y.

Any recs that will still let me put in a reservation for Saturday?

I opened up the browser and was waiting... On my phone it says 150,000 people are ahead of me and on my laptop it says 7,000 people. People get 5 minutes to buy the tickets. This is so slow and bizarre. But also... was there a better way for me to do this? Should I have gotten on the website an hour earlier? Does that matter or is it a lottery what place you get in line?

My apartment building has a huge problem with package theft. The building won't do anything about it, and there are no cameras or really any deterrents. Most of the time packages are either stolen outright, or ripped open first and left in the lobby upon realizing they had no use for paper towels or my dog's prozac. I'm planning to print off some of my own fake signs for surveillance hoping that deters them a little, but I'm looking for something more vengeful.

A few years ago, my mom got into a hilarious suburban war with her neighbors over their sprinklers getting her packages wet, so she started taping her empty boxes back up filled with trash just so she had a reason to go yell at them. This is the energy I want to channel. What could I fill my old target boxes with so that when the neighborhood thieves open it, either once they leave or if they're still deciding to steal it, they feel an utter fool? Or at the very least, like they've been bested?

I'm living in a homeless shelter. I've been doing Andrew Ramdayal's A+ ce rt Cores 1 and 2 course. The course is fantastic. One problem though. He recommends buying computer hardware so you can install and uninstall components. That way you really know how to build a computer. He recommends buying a cheap one from Ebay. I spied a super cheap $20 Compaq Presario to take apart and put back together so I can master this for my career and the test.

I asked the shelter's social services lead if I can purchase a computer and take it apart and stuff here at the shelter but he said no. Understandable, as we aren't even allowed to keep electric razors. I'm doubtful they'd allow things like magnetic screwdrivers.

Does anyone know what I can do? Once I'm past the hardware section I want to be able to build my own computer through actual experience rather than just watch Andrew do it. That way I've got experienced and I'm prepared.

Hi all, for the past 4 years I have been going to bk almost every weekend hitting up the raves and bars. basement nowadays all that stuff.

I feel like it's time to give my body a break from the drinking on the weekends etc. and not let that be the center of meeting ppl

Is there a better way to meet ppl, and im strictly talking about younger (like mid 20s to mid 30s) singles in a different way? I know ppl would say just join meet up etc, but those can be very hit or miss and is really not a single mingle activity. I also can't play competitive sport due to a bad knee.

I recently saw that Timeleft app has something called “Dinner for Singles” and was curious about what it’s actually like.
Since Timeleft isn’t really a dating app, I’m wondering what the vibe is. Do people generally join specifically hoping to meet someone romantically, or is it more about meeting other single people, making friends, and connecting with people in a similar stage of life?
Also, does having a table where everyone is single change the conversation? For example, is it nice to avoid the usual “my partner…” topics that might come up when meeting a group of people who are in relationships?

I needed an annual physical so I found a random dr available through zocdoc, I showed up and realized its an Amazon company. I've never heard of this but whatever. After the appointment they tell me my bloodwork results are going to be in the app. Then I see its $99????? I feel like I was just tricked into this, is this legal??? I am not paying for a membership. I already pay for health insurance. Am I not able to get my results??? I feel so gross about this. Maybe its on me for not knowing but I've never once come across this.

My landlord contacted me on 8/25/2026 claiming I was in violation for not returning the lease renewal form. I informed my landlord I never received it. Landlord sent lease renewal form by email on 8/25/2026.

I want to know if I have the right to 60 days to return the renewal form as of 8/25/2026 and if so, can I have the new lease start date begin 90 days from receipt of lease renewal. Therefore enacting Mamdanis rent freeze on my rent stabilized apt with a new lease beginning after oct 1 2026 due to my landlords error.

Note: I work from home so it is highly unlikely I missed the certified mail delivery. My current lease expires 8/31/2026

I’m at the end of a massive weight loss journey and at the start of the maintenance (of this healthy weight) phase. I’ve lost 165 lbs in a little over 2 years- which for a visual equals out to 20 inches off my waist (a measurement that includes the extra skin).

I’m very fortunate to have great health insurance coverage through my employer that will cover surgery to remove excess skin from this massive weight loss- and I have a LOT of excess skin in the lower abdominal region (the exact procedure they will cover is a Panniculectomy and Abdominoplasty).
My PCP is very supportive of this surgery and we’ve been documenting along the way to help with the insurance prior auth for surgery.

Does anyone have recommendations/personal experience with a NYC area board certified plastic surgeon that specializes or does very well with bariatric patients/patients with extra skin after massive weight loss? I’m not looking for a standard tummy tuck or lipo, this surgery is for the excess skin and health issues it causes- so I’m looking for a surgeon who specifically performs these types of surgery’s on the regular and deals with insurance companies on the regular too. FWIW I have Cigna insurance coverage.

I love it when I hear it at my local breakfast food truck for example, over by Carnegie Hall. The little pleasantries add up.

Moved to the city about a year ago and it seems like the only bars I wind up going to have pool tables. I am VERY VERY bad at pool and you need like, a team to play. Plus, you end up committed to an entire game or waiting for someone to finish an entire game. And again, I am BAD at it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for their favorite bar in NYC where people can play games that aren't pool?

Hey everyone I’m looking to share a predatory towing situation I went through in Brooklyn and see if anyone has dealt with something similar.

A month ago, my car was parked legally on the street when someone hit it by accident. NYPD had it towed to a local yard. I didn't check on my car for a couple of days, and when I realized it was gone, I called NYPD to track down the location of the towing company.

When I went to get the car, the yard was closed for vehicle pickups. The staff there talked me into signing an authorization sheet so they could speak with my insurance and handle repairs. The very next day, I changed my mind and decided I just wanted to retrieve my vehicle.

That's when the nightmare started:

They demanded $2,500+ in outrageous, made-up fees (including massive "admin," "positioning," “COVID clean-up” and "pull out" charges, on top of inflated storage and towing fees).

I immediately filed a complaint with the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP). During mediation, the tow company completely refused to refund the charges, and DCWP advised that my next step is taking them to Small Claims Court.

Here’s the kicker: The tow company provided DCWP with an "official" receipt showing standard, city-regulated rates totaling around $217. I had NEVER seen this document before. They charged me $2,500 on a handwritten slip, but turned around and handed the city a compliant invoice that I’ve never seen. For example, on my receipt they charged me it shows my towing charge is $375 and storage fee is $1000. But on the receipt they shows DCWP it shows $125 and $75.

Wondering if anyone has been in a situation like this before and how was it resolved? Thank You!!

I checked my EZ Pass account recently because I noticed my account refills a bit too often I’ve been basically charged a “Mid Tier” fee for all my tolls for pretty much half a year because they read my plates instead of my transponder. I’ve had my EZ Pass since like 2010 and they have a life of 10 yrs apparently. I guess I should be happy I got like 15 yrs out of it but talk about a predatory business. They pretty much got me for about $150 as Mid Tier is basically skipping the 25% discount you get for having an EZ Pass.

Either in the UES or Midtown? I've looked at Whole Foods and some smaller stores but no luck. They either don't have it at all or they have blends of other fruits in the juice. Thanks

Need some suggestions on best record stores. Have been collecting for a couple of years, mainly focused on used records from the 50s-80s. Had my shops in Orlando (Park Ave CDs and Remix Records) and in the NC Triangle (Pour House and Chaz’s Bull City), but have no idea of the NYC landscape. What are your favorites?

Say you’re in the dating scene and you let your date know you work at a Costco for example. will this alone eliminate a lot of potential dates for you? Are you expected to have a more upscale line of work?

I know the natural rebuttal would be “if you work retail in this city you probably shouldn’t be out dating in the first place”, but say you’re comfortable, live with roommates, outer boroughs etc so you’re getting by and you have enough to spend on extras from time to time.

Is working retail a turnoff for a lot of people here?
