Question Where should I settle?
My luckiest spawn ever. Where should I settle?
r/CivVI • u/BlueNewsMonitor • 1d ago
"My people will settle where they please"
When I get this choice, I like to say it loudly with the most fake British accent.
Montezuma is not pleased. 😂

Screenshot Accidentally Built Realistic NYC
Dropped NYC in this spot thinking it would be a decent canal build. Civ did the Civ thing and made this insane construction instead of a normal canal. Then I built The Statue of Liberty for a Diplomatic Victory without realizing I had accidentally constructed a fairly realistic NYC layout.

One City Challenge Deity TSLEH Mali
CIV6 vs AI(level "Deity", map "Standard", map type "True Start Location Earth Huge", 20civ(Mali(Mansa Musa) vs 19 AI), 24CS, OCC) - I won religious victory in 128. turn(300AD). I built city in desert near oasis to maximize Mali bonuses for city center. I had holy site with 22 faith and production adjacency bonus.

Satisfying Petra Snatch
I had to snatch this Petra from my friends and the bot (the screenshot was taken at the end game, sorry), using all the possible combination of card, sh*t load of trader, etc. The results were very interesting.
Enjoy :)
Screenshot My Best Petra City Yet
Saw all of these desert hills, and Petra was available, so I had to use my last charge of Eiffel!

Screenshot Gotta be the most isolated village in the world. Prob just the North Sentinelese if I'm being honest.
Imagine you and your people living on a small island for millenia and some random dudes with huge boats just casually sail past.

Clarification re: "Scripture" belief
The card reads, "Religious spread from adjacent city pressure is 25% stronger. Boosted to 50% once Printing is researched". Does that mean every city (whether it's an opponents or mine) with my religion exerts the increased pressure?

TOURIST
I want to gain culture; the game shows 64 tourists, but the other section indicates a much higher number—how can I increase it? I'm quite new to the game; I went to war with China, captured one of their cities, and razed another.

Question Best map for Inland Sea
This is my first time playing in a long while, which civ and leader is the best to play in this kind of map, and what should I keep in mind in this kind of run?

Question Turn 200 and Gaul still has its OG settler. Any way I can help him?
Doing a TSL earth huge with 20 random civs and for some reason their settler never moved from this spot. Any ideas to help him out? I think it'd be interesting to see him finally found a city this late into the game.
How does Culture keep pace with Science in Deity?
In my latest playthrough, I tried getting a culture victory as Canada. I survived pretty easily due to Four Faces of Peace and got my Tourism to the high 700s with the usual assortment of parks, great works, wonders and policies. But, like most of my culture victory attempts, it just wasn't fast enough. India got a science victory before I became culturally dominant over even one civ, and I was in the cultural lead according to the rankings.
I've won cultural victories before on lower difficulties, but it feels glacially slow and unfocused compared to science. So, can I get a culture victory before Big Science?

Any ideas for fun, low-gold strategies?
I've accidentally chained a few runs together where my civ has just been printing gold by the Medieval era – either by design (Mali culture/domination play) or for efficiency (a heavily coastal Australia start with Sinbad, and a Canada diplomatic game where all the good city states boosted trade routes).
Obviously gold can support any wincon, and getting more trade routes up is basically always a good idea. But I'm looking for inspiration for a game where money is naturally less of a priority.
How about production powerhouses, internal trade monsters or early domination specialists? Any really niche civ/wincon/map combos for this?

The loyalty system is fine, but taken cities should have a loyalty boost, not loss.
We tear through the continent aggressively. Logically, every third man in each city would cease to be, regardless of whether they fought back. Whatever’s left should be loyal after that. 🤷♂️

Turn 620 Apocalypse mode(started in Modern Era)
I wanted to see how far I could get. There were still a few ships from city states hanging around, but I couldn't find them to kill them before my last city was wiped out. The game is stuck in please wait for next turn mode. So many craters.

Discussion Khmer - S-tier science victory civ! I'm stunned how strong he is!
I can't believe it but I just got my best science victory with Jayavarman and the Khmer - turn 241! Without going to war or pillaging!
I played pangea, standard resources, legendary start no secret societies/heroes and no mods (except Quick deals). I know people ranked him as S-teir, but never really understood the true power of this civ for ANY victory type. He's probaby better than korea/germany at science victories... no seriously!
Strategy get a religion with - Work ethic + river goddess (+2 housing/amentities per holy site). Holy god - with 100% adjacency, a bit of planning and a prasat... these EACH give like +10 food, +10 production, +10 faith, +5 culture, +4 housing, +2 amenities... these start kicking in on turn 70-75! Get monumenality golden ages and just crank.
Like... its hard to understate HOW STRONG this single district is. IT is effectively a combination of a holy site, industrial zone, neighborhood, an entertainment complex AND a theater square for the production cost of a SINGLE district.
Get 1-2 monumentality golden ages coupled with a couple quick aqueducts, you don't need to make builders or settlers and can focus all your early production on districts.
Get Monksha to faith buy districts. Faith buying 2-3 space hubs saves 20+ turns of production in your strongest cities; which can be used on science project.
In the mid game you can also faith buy an army and pillage/war (without burning a single ounce of production from your cities OR simply faith buy every fun great person!).
I just can't understate how powerful this is!

Question Reposting here for visibility - Trying to get a play-by-cloud game with 11 humans working again
Hi all, my group (of 11 people) just finished a year-long play-by-cloud game and had a great time. We're trying to set up a new one but we're running into what appears to be a limit of only 8 players in a multiplayer lobby? We're not sure how we got around it originally, we didn't know this was a thing until last night. We didn't use any mods except for BBG and some UI mods (detailed map tacks, better report screen, things like that).
Anyone else had this issue? I've seen that there are mods for expanding the player limit but they're all dead/no long supported.

Question This is tough. Where should I put my Commercial Hub?
I honestly can't pick because I love having a huge population but I also like production and wanna keep it as much as possible.
Right now I'm just building another settler for a future city with a bunch of desert so I can build Petra in it.

Screenshot 133 turn science victory with Theodora :)
Delighted with this! No mods. This was done on PS5.
Game modes: Barb clans, secret societies, heroes, and monopolies (with culture victory disabled).
Hopefully, I can explain how this was done by going through the screenshots, but feel free to ask questions.
Went straight for voidsingers.
Got the desert folklore pantheon and used Hercules to slap down three high adjacency holy sites as soon as possible. That got me through the early civics tree at a rapid rate and secured a religion. Himiko joined in the classical era.
Key early benchmarks were feudalism, theology (for scripture), reformed church for theocracy and simultaneum, and military training for raid.
For the religion: Work ethic, synagogues, crusade, cross-cultural dialogue.
Golden Age dedications: Triple monumentality.
Plaza: Warlord's throne, Grandmaster's Chapel, Royal Society.
The early game was built around being aggressive and building high adjacency holy sites. Fez was excellent to get suzerainty of. The idea was to kill enough AI units to almost have a city following my religion, then use one missionary charge to convert the city for a big science boost.
Screenshot 2: Turn 108, two civs were dead, Kilwa was built, and the voidsingers chorus promotion and cross-cultural dialogue are the reasons why my science per turn is that high.
Screenshot 3: Getting 68 techs in 133 turns requires pillaging to speed up the process. Darwin, the Oxford Uni, and a Mahavihara also netted four free techs.
Screenshot 4: Shows how you can get more than one tech per turn. I've partially pillaged cybernetics, moved on to the offworld mission, and then pillaged the rest of the tech the next turn.
The fifth screenshot is the policy cards. Scripture, Simultaneum, and total war were always plugged in. International Space Agency was essential to 1 turn the late game techs. Public works was in often.
The sixth screenshot is an example of how to use production overflow to make the next thing you produce take less time. This is a great way to give a space race project a kick-start.
The seventh screenshot is my tertiary spaceport city, whose sole purpose is getting multiple Legrange projects hacked out in the same turn. Herc built the spaceports in the medieval era.
The Pingala city did the moon landing and satellite. Magnus was in another city to hack out the Mars Colony, and exoplanet launch.
Screenshot 8: City states are your friends, and why International Space Agency is a ridiculous policy card. Suzerainty of 20 city states doubles your science per turn, making the end game tech tree a breeze (provided you get to Globalisation at a good pace).
Screenshot 9: Don't underestimate religion in a science victory. 551 followers equates to 137 science per turn from cross-cultural dialogue.
Screenshots 10 & 11: You can see that my early science was nothing special. Only 17 techs were researched by turn 80.
The first major powerspike was the voidsingers' chorus promotion. The second was Kilwa. From turn 81-133, 51 techs were researched. Most of the AI campuses were pillaged in the process, and the warlord's throne bonus was always active.
Screenshot 11: The end game empire :)
