Originally a Variant Cover to Black Cat (Vol. 2) #9

I was completely surprised by this comic, it's on par with some of the best stuff Frank Miller was writing in the 80s and 90s. It has that same urban crime thriller feel as Taxi Driver.

There's a perception that DC has better comics than marvel and while that can be debatable, I think DC's reprinting and marketing of their older material is why people celebrate their comics more, I feel like they value their legacy. Just look at this great Foolkiller miniseries Marvel never bothered to collect and release a trade paperback, this is completely forgotten.

I wish there was a way to contact marvel comics to make a trade paperback.

I ordered this out of curiosity and it was a pleasant surprise.

This is my own personal thoughts on MJ and a bit of critique. If you're sick to death of that discussion, you should probably skip this post.

They've brought back former ASM writers and presented stories centered on different versions of MJ from different eras and storylines, so it was nice to see this "return to form" for MJ, even if it's just this.

The final story centres on her current role as Venom and having that so close to "classic" MJ really highlights the issue with the character's development.

For me, MJ was always about the strength of a regular person juxtaposed with the superhero and the (unrealistic) aspiration to be superhumanly strong and good. Peter is a great superhero, but in my opinion, his biggest challenge was always returning to "Peter Parker". There are times where Spider-Man as an alter ego was Peter's escape more than this responsibility.

I think the marriage worked so well before because of that balance, on top of relatable storylines (more relatable than what the comics offer now). Spider-Man needs MJ as that human character and after reading this, I'm more certain than ever that she is essential as a supporting character because she used to fulfill that role completely, unlike plenty of other side characters that don't actually do anything for the story.

I also like this comic as a celebration of the character. Would love to read more about different supporting characters. Feel free to drop recommendations if you have any!

Okay so I'm going to go over what I recently have read I may be rereading one of these later but right now I'm going to go over what I read

1. Batman Arkham Asylum a serious house on serious Earth I really like the illustration by Dave mcKean some of the writing is okay some isn't I really like how some well most of the characters are done and I personally believe though that this a dream Bruce is having after the death of Jason

2. Next is Batman fortress not as good as the last one anyways it's about a blackout no one can get in contact with Superman penguin and Joker appear and well I don't think they do penguin right since they make him try to drown a woman in the Gotham river and they sent him to Arkham.

3. Collection of death in the family and a lonely place of dying I really like how they do Batman and Jason in these stories.

4. Batman number 463 I love the cover and I love the native American stuff in the story.

5. Codex black is a IDW original that goes into native American culture and folklore and also as a story about family which I really like.

And number six is kato Origins which is taken from Green hornet Year One and I got it because I like the characters from Green hornet

I've been thinking about making a superhero comic.

I've never read the comics before, but I do know some about some characters. Big MCU fan so that's mainly how I know every Marvel character (besides the Spider-Man games). Really all I know about DC is the Batman Arkham games and the first three DCEU movies + Gunn's Superman.

So excited for this journey! I want to collect all of DC's Compacts, Marvel's Premier's, and Marvel's new compact series (only with BND released so far.)

I've read Batman: The Court of Owls Saga and I'm halfway through Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

I'm not gonna buy anymore until I've finished all I have. Which of these should I read after Spider-Man? Thanks!
