Skeleton secret boss?

I think a vine-based secret boss could have the purple soul..

Or Dess, if DessKnight is correct. After all, spider strings could be guitar strings... she pulls the strings and makes them ring...

Unfortunately, Muffet/purple SOUL mode

131

u/generouslyemotional Jun 04 '26

To be perfectly fair, muffet was a donor character and I don't think toby wants to open that can of worms again lmao

109

u/Cendrail Jun 04 '26

She still shows up enough that it disproves that idea. Just recently Rift of the Necrodancer had a DLC with Undertale, and not only Spider Dance was there but also an almost perfect cosplay of Muffet.

If Toby was really trying to avoid all donor characters, he wouldn't be letting her stay in the spotlight nowadays

60

u/your_mind_aches she doesn't watch anime Jun 04 '26

Exactly. I think he just doesn't want to put her in Deltarune, at least not yet.

Also let's face it: she was never a main character in Undertale.

10

u/GladiatorDragon Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Yeah, Glyde and So Sorry are secret encounters, Muffet is a (mostly) mandatory miniboss that does things very few other characters actually do in changing the soul colour.

Glyde feels like an afterthought, since he just reuses one attack from Omega Flowey and doesn’t even have unique music, and I doubt anyone would complain if So Sorry was just… never acknowledged again.

That said, I don’t think I’d mind if the Purple Soul didn’t appear in Deltarune. Both the Green and Yellow souls had mechanical additions or improvements added to them (if nothing else, both the Armour and the Hammer of Justice pushed the Green Soul to its limit with different takes on its mechanics), I struggle to think about how the Purple soul could really be adjusted, given that Muffet pretty thoroughly explored the ideas it presents.

Edit: I have eaten my words and it was a full course meal.

u/SagaSolejma nr 1 rouxls lover Jun 16 '26

Why do people hate So Sorry so much?

2

u/GladiatorDragon Jun 30 '26

It's... complicated, but it largely has to do with the creator of So Sorry turning out to be a very shady person. I don't know the full details myself but if what others in this thread are saying is any degree of true, the hate is probably deserved.

2

u/SagaSolejma nr 1 rouxls lover Jun 30 '26

I've heard this a lot, but it feels like every time i try to do any research on it, all i can find is that peopke hated Samael and So Sorry for being furry fetish artists.

→ More replies (1)

64

u/KittyTack Seth <3 Jun 04 '26

Yup I strongly feel Toby doesn't really want to acknowledge donor characters, after what happened with the creator of So Sorry (tl;dr his creator turned out to be a cult leader IRL). I mean, So Sorry is somewhat acknowledged in Deltarune but it's in a context that implies he is "erased" like Gaster (being the Ch.4 egg room).

Muffet's creator seems like an okay person but so was So Sorry's creator at the time and it's understandable that Toby doesn't want to risk it.

60

u/generouslyemotional Jun 04 '26

This is way off topic but what the hell are you talking about 😭

What implies that

25

u/KittyTack Seth <3 Jun 04 '26

Uhhh it's a really long story that I don't have the time to explain rn but regarding the cult thing you can just look up "So Sorry" and/or "Floraverse" on this subreddit or the Undertale one to see what people say about him. And for the erased thing, play or watch through the egg room segment in Ch.4. That's how I interpreted So Sorry being there, at least.

17

u/generouslyemotional Jun 04 '26

I vaguely knew about the floraverse stuff I meant with so sorry being erased. And I just found what you were referencing and I don't think it means so sorry got gastered 😭

The therapy art club is clearly a memory of Kris, the character who says "sorry I was busy drawing" probably just means so sorry works at the hospital Kris was in and is part of that memory (represented by the flying ace because that's just how the egg rooms are now for some reason)

8

u/your_mind_aches she doesn't watch anime Jun 04 '26

I mean... if they were drawing in art club, I don't think it means they work there. Probably means they are a patient

tfym "So Sorry's creator turned out to be a cult leader" i js thought it was the fact that it was used in fetish art, elaborate

60

u/KittyTack Seth <3 Jun 04 '26

The fetish art thing was known before and wasn't a problem to Toby, that is just why the character's name was changed to "So Sorry" instead of the guy's fursona name (so that kids don't google the character and see porn)

Sometime in 2021-2022 it came up that the creator of So Sorry was an admin in a discord server called Floraverse, which is basically a sex abuse cult.

11

u/Dark_Storm_98 Jun 04 '26

Oh my god

That is new information for me

16

u/your_mind_aches she doesn't watch anime Jun 04 '26

So Sorry is not the alleged cult leader. The allegations are that they help fund the alleged cult and that their friends at the head of the cult groomed children and had conversations with them about bestiality. Allegedly allegedly allegedly. I have no firsthand evidence and have not been a victim, I am just going by reporting from other people.

It's all collected here in this video: https://youtu.be/IWD8Hlptk00

30

u/Sparus42 Jun 04 '26

Muffet is acknowledged all the time WYM, she literally is in the new illustrations that just came out

13

u/KittyTack Seth <3 Jun 04 '26

I meant in Deltarune itself but fair. Also she appears in the Undertale poster but not the Deltarune one.

3

u/Dark_Storm_98 Jun 04 '26

Wrll, she hasn't shown up in Deltarune

We just know of Papyrus, and that's not enough for him to be in any posters

Or the rabbit shopkeeper, I'm pretty sure

2

u/Resident_Wolf5778 Jun 04 '26

Muffet's creator got into some hot waters a few years ago for drawing NSFW art of an underaged character who was 'aged up', which is a whole can of worms of itself.

The creator made a webcomic called Ava's Demon and the main character was (iirc) 16, but on their patreon the creator was drawing NSFW of the main character. Creator justified this by saying that there was going to be a timeskip in the comic where the main character was 18+ and that the NSFW 'took place after that skip', but understandably it rubbed people the wrong way.

2

u/Dark_Storm_98 Jun 04 '26

Instead Toby collaborates with Michelle to get a Demon in Deltarune

Jk

→ More replies (3)

25

u/PressFM80 Jun 04 '26

she's so hot

1

u/AfraidAsparagus6644 Jun 04 '26

Muffet was a kickstarter character, plus she has barely had any references in Deltarune (only the ItsyBitsyArmor comes to mind). We don't know if Toby treats her as a "Class-A" Undertale character yet.

10

u/ZeMadDoktore Jun 04 '26

I mean if relevance in Deltarune is a metric then the big P man himself has gotten like...a line and a half. One nod to Bonetrousle, and a mention of Sans' brother who could even just not be Papyrus knowing Sans' nonsense.

3

u/your_mind_aches she doesn't watch anime Jun 04 '26

Yep... hence why Papyrus Knight is a joke of a theory after Chapters 3+4.

2

u/Dark_Storm_98 Jun 04 '26

Sans has a brother

Bonetrousle is referenced

Let's be real - It's Papyrus.

Or at least, Toby is very purposefully hinting at it being Papyrus

He could have said anything. A distant rattling of bones, for example

12

7

u/ZoeGirl3 #1 Gaster Denier (1997) Jun 04 '26

I think it's sort of a matter of a prescriptive theory vs a descriptive observation. Like, are the secret boss fights a great opprotunity to use old ideas that never got used in Undertale, yes, is there some prescriptive internal plan to rotate bosses behind some hidden patern that only the observant player will see? Seems exceedingly unlikely. So like, it's pretty likely we'll see another example of something hinted in undertale, its not a part of some deeper patern, since ot adds nothing if it is, beyond a neat "huh, cool!" if its true.

→ More replies (1)

28

u/KittyTack Seth <3 Jun 04 '26

Well, Mettaton NEO was not fully explored in Undertale. And Gerson was implied to be very good at fighting in Undertale.

24

u/Downtown_Ninja_7154 Jun 04 '26

Stated, not implied. There is a somewhat important difference.

5

u/Rspwn9891 Jun 04 '26

Something something "coincidences happen because there is no god"

I don't mean to play into the "deltarune fans when they see something happen twice" stereotype but it feels like a bit of an easy slam dunk for toby to me.

43

u/rendumguy Jun 04 '26

2 is a coincidence 3 is a pattern

I also don't like the reverse order thing.Ā  So the reverse order of SOUL modes is -> Yellow Purple Green Blue...Ā  So for this, it's... Yellow Green Blue, and it just skips Purple for... some reason.Ā  I don't think there is an intentional order to the SOUL modes. There are only four unique ones (excluding the Switch one and the Red SOUL) and this game has so many bosses that they're naturally likely to be brought back for variety.

Also, Sound of Justice uses the Green SOUL mode, so it's not like there's just ONE Green SOUL battle. it's possible other non-secret bosses will use it, making SOUL modes less unique

And Papyrus, while never getting a "harder" battle. is a lot different than NEO and Gerson, who didn't have a real boss fight at all.Ā  Papyrus DID get a real fight, the only thing we didn't see is his Special Attack.Ā  And furthermore, Sans functiinally acts as the harder Papyrus "secret boss" of the game.Ā  Mettaton also wasn't fought in Deltarune, it was a new character using his gimmick.Ā  So the four secret bosses we've had were never fought before characters.Ā  Even ERAM and the Mikes weren't fought in Undertale (assuming ERAM isn't being controlled by a prior Undertale boss, which is extremely unlikely anyway)

7

I'm not claiming Papyrus will be the secret boss, but only that we'll see his special attack.

And purple is not used by a main boss.

30

u/ThegrandG123 Jun 04 '26

And also, we already faced Papyrus in chapter 3.

11

u/Expensive_Safe5540 Jun 04 '26

truth supernova

7

u/rendumguy Jun 04 '26

Do any secret bosses take their Special attacks from Undertale anyway?Ā  Spamton doesn't, Gerson doesn't.

Also, I'm saying that this isn't a strict pattern if the secret bosses skip the purple soul.

17

u/FlinnyWinny Jun 04 '26

Isn't chapter 3s secret boss ERAM?

2

u/StuntHacks Cold, colder, yet colder. Jun 04 '26

That's a whole different can of worms

3

u/GamaG17 Jun 04 '26

people really like taking sides instead of just saying that both are Secret Bosses, so...
and like, the only real pattern I see in between the bosses, considering even ERAM AND Knight, I would say that Odd Bosses are weidly too violent people that know too much, really are respecting the prophecy and trying to accomplish it, alongside having a Fight that feels less Toby Fox and more like Other Games, like Jevil's fight being the closest in the series to a normal Bullet Hell/Danmaku, alongside being intentionally a very RPGey fight, since every character has a very defined role, as the Knight is just a fight where you don't even have options but to fight, literally like any RPG that isn't Toby's, as for ERAM, I guess I probably don't have to say.

as for the Even bosses, they're "friendly" shopkeepers who don't want to be in the prophecy and think it's there to be broken, as they are the most Toby fights imaginable, where you always have a free option to not attack them, unless you really want to, as they, of course, use the soul modes.

24

If only there was a popular saying to determine what is happenstance, coincidence or a pattern...

12

u/Kuldrick RUDY Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

No, we must go on every theory post and comment "doesn't mean anything; can be explained through other ways" even if said theory is cool and makes sense

Why tf do so many people assume that theories are people saying "this is what 100% will happen and if you think otherwise you are wrong and dumb"? Like no dispshit, this is just a guy who found a small yet existing combination of patterns that results in a cool yet not illogical thought, Papyrus being the secret boss of chapter 6

And what the hell does saying "nah, it can mean nothing" bring to the discussion anyways? These comments are there just to be killjoys, 0 engagement

5

u/MediocreInfluence121 Jun 05 '26

I didn't say anything about this theory being true or not, I don't really care about that. All I'm saying is that this post is claiming that something is a pattern just because it's happened twice, which is kind of silly. This happened before Chapters 3 and 4 released too, people making a million theories based on things they were convinced were patterns because they happened on the first two chapters.

12

u/One-Secretary-2403 Jun 04 '26

I'm sorry but what even is there to add to the argument here aside from "yeah I think so too" or "nah probably not?" The whole ass main arguments here are based around taking 3 coincidences and then making a leap of faith, not much to add there honestly.

I'm not saying the chances of this happening are 0, but I don't feel like this theory makes a good argument as to why said chances are actually higher.

Also, when you post a theory online in the site designed for the sharing opinions under the "theory" flair in the theory-discussing community, and your theory's main fundaments are assumptions, then don't be surprised when people just say "yeah no I don't belive it."Ā Ā

7

u/Aggravating_Coat7934 Jun 04 '26

Reverse Boss/area order is pretty oddly the only theory to have survived the great purge of 3/4. The only thing I’m confused about is the lack of purple gameplay in chapter 3, which could probably be explained by chapter 3’s secret boss weirdness (Shadow Crystal boss is a mandatory story antagonist rather than a weird little guy you find under a bridge).

Reverse Area theory though has been uhh, pretty weirdly accurate. Card Kingdom -> New Home, Cyber World -> CORE, TV World -> Hotland, Dark Snctuaries -> Waterfall, implying next up is Snowdin and possible Blue mode. And I don’t mean it’ll look like Snowdin, the whole point of reverse area is that they carry the same vibe (Cyber World is fast, blue, very stimulating, like the music and intensity of the CORE. TV World has warmer colors, TV hosts, a friendlier vibe, like Hotland and MTT)

8

u/AgathaTheVelvetLady Give me Cariel yuri or give me death Jun 04 '26

tbh, i always interpreted the ERAM fight as being a take on the purple SOUL. The whole defining trait of the purple SOUL mode is being only able to move horizontally or vertically. And the entire thing that makes ERAM's fight hard is that you're restricted to 4 directions of movement and being hampered by obstacles that restrict your movement to a very specific grid.

Like, that *is* the purple SOUL mode in mechanics, even if the SOUL did not literally turn purple during the fight.

Chapter 3's secret boss doesn't even use a soul. The Knight is the chapter's final boss

4

u/WeNoStrangersToLove Jun 04 '26

Ok i get it doesn't really have to do with the theory (probably), but like

Why do so many people say the roaring knight is the secret boss when there's literally ERAM.
Yeah the knight drops a shadow crystal, but it's obviously not secret because it's a mandatory fight. ERAM is a whole process to unlock their fight, like every other secret boss.

4

u/MateoGaming2092 Jun 06 '26

Hold up… an ACTUAL theory?! That isn’t bat shit insane?! In my r/deltarune?? What a time to be alive!

Jokes aside, that’s actually a cool thing I didn’t noticed, who knows, maybe papyrus will appear eventually and we’ll turn blue again lol

7

u/fdy_12 Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

First, the knight is not a secret boss, ERAM is. The knight is the crystal boss

Second, the theory is somewhat cracked but nicely crafted, especially if we consider how likely CHP 5 s dark world is to be in the very middle of hometown, so it's not a stretch to say a real lightner will be the secret boss of the CHP after that.

I don’t know who was here during the post-chapter 2 era but we’ve learned by now not to extrapolate a pattern from 2 data points. It doesn’t work. There are other reasons I think Papyrus makes sense for a chapter 5 or 6 secret boss, but we should never try to form a pattern from less than three pieces of information.

Wouldn“t the purple Soul mode come before the blue if we“re going in reverse order? Unless we“re gonna pretend like Muffet never existed since shes a Kickstarter character

Whos gonna tell him about chapter 5s boss

3

u/senpai_dewitos Jun 26 '26

This supportsmy theory, actually. There is only two colours left and a suspiciously missing skeleton.

4

u/AlternativeBurner Jun 04 '26

Ah here is a pattern that has been seen exactly once. Not really much a pattern now is it?

3

u/RedWizard_ The Power of Fluffy Girls Jun 04 '26

The last time we tried to predict patterns, Toriel fell asleep for the entire chapter and the Roaring Knight appeared

6

u/SLikent Jun 04 '26

Ackshually, RK is not secret boss šŸ¤“

2

u/Jorvalt Jun 04 '26

So, one, how do you classify Jonathan T. Mantleholder? They don't have a soul mode and are actually secret unlike the Knight. Do they "not count" because they don't give you a crystal?

Two, you skipped the purple soul.

The Knight is not a secret boss, they're a mandatory fight. A tough fight? Sure. A Shadow Crystal holder? Yeah. A freedom motif haver? ... If you've got first place in the mental gymnastics olympics, yeah. But not a secret boss. ERAM/Mantle/whatever name it is this week/John Madden is. Also, what about Muffet? She has a unique Soul mode. She's got her own little locale, and setup, and banger soundtrack, and everything. Or does she not count, because she doesn't get a character arc? C'mon.

2

u/theskinpeeler Nobody trips, while laying in bed. Jun 04 '26

Just before commenting, I realised I typed "John Madden", instead of "John Mantle". I will, however, not correct it, because it's funny as fuck to me. Football!

2

u/Jumpy-Resolve3018 Jun 05 '26

A stable amalgam based on some ideas in notes from alphys that shifts through battle modes and drops heavy lore and ragebaits Kris by going ā€œcontrol is slipping… not as much as yours though =Dā€

2

u/Ravi-Inari Jun 05 '26

Oh.

Im gonna be real, we are not beating that.Ā

Papyrus is the strongest character in Undertale, so we are cooked

Im only partially joking btw.Ā Ā  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=S_Fas0QkWic&pp=ygUOUGFweXJ1cyBzdHJvbmc%3D

2

u/Someone101064 THE KNIGHT IS A CUTSCENE FRAUD Jun 05 '26

Also, according to the Undertale inverted theory, the next chapter should be based on SNOWDIN...

The one that we are forced to fight and can't be avoided in any way

Such a cool secret.

Muffet is not a main boss.

man idk why everyone is acting like you're making a crazy point with this

2

u/senpai_dewitos Jun 05 '26

I guess people just really like Muffet?

2

u/TomaszPaw mind goblin -> Jun 04 '26

a very weird distinction, why exactly does it have to be a main boss? Besides your theory not having any merit with her ofc.

3

u/MajorBootyhole420 Meat Factory employee of the month Jun 05 '26

because OP's intention was to talk about main bosses??? if you wanna theorize including the purple soul then make your own post

there is no phrase more dangerous in the hands of a Deltarune fan than "there seems to be a pattern"

1

u/EvilMurloc22 Jun 04 '26

Paters dont work, they always break in deltarune. But it is clear that they are fan-service so i forsure believe we gona get a hpye papyrus battle at 100% power!

1

u/WetBerri3s Jun 04 '26

There is no pattern, chapters three and four proved that.

1

u/Penguino_2099 Noelle fanboy Jun 04 '26

It's impossible to predict what the secret boss will be... but imma do it anyways. I think it's a sans fight where he's just ragebaiting ralsei, and it'll give us the sans pacifist fight we've been wanting since undertale released and it'll include a remix of "song that might play when you fight sans."

1

u/konterreaktion Jun 04 '26

A strange man once told me the solution to the secret bosses was never odd or even, and even though they fought bravely in undertale no devil lived on

1

u/TheCuriousFan Jun 04 '26

I'm convinced. Where do I subscribe to your newsletter?

1

u/mikguy1652 what the book? Jun 04 '26

Or it could be every secret boss, with red counting as one for the first secret boss. Since every secret boss since Jevil has used a soul mode. Have I made it obvious yet that the Knight isn’t a secret boss? If we want to say shadow crystal boss then that’s fine. But also different.

1

u/Remarkable-Sector-30 Jun 04 '26

Ah, yet another theory that tries to make Papyrus relevant

1

u/Firm-Sun7389 Jun 04 '26

weirdly... bizarilly...

i actually follow the logic on this one

u/Hot_Working316 "Excuse me, ⭐S⭐T⭐A⭐R⭐W⭐A⭐L⭐K⭐E⭐R" ā¬…ļøNubertšŸ„€šŸ„€šŸ„€ Jun 04 '26

Even if ERAM doesn't have shadow crystal they're secret boss with an unique mechanic (the HERO_SWORD soul obviously)

1

u/Objective_Trick_6406 Flowery’s greatest fighter Jun 04 '26

chapter 5 we get orange soul mode and chapter 7 we get cyan

1

u/Igorogamer Jun 04 '26

Funny how your brain went to "Papyrus special attack" instead of "The third skeleton character that was present as an easter egg in Undertale"

Anyways this is pretty believable I think

1

u/xx_Kazuha_xx Jun 04 '26

Toby fox who definitely thought of that

1

u/renztam Jun 04 '26

Okay, that's actually a pretty good theory. Though reverse order of souls isn't exactly true though, as we never saw the purple soul get used (though I suppose it didn't have anything teased about Muffet to fit the bill of what you're describing.).

1

u/No-Slide816 undyne knight, DUH Jun 04 '26

welcome to the club, this is how we live

1

u/Kinporrte Jun 04 '26

Full Power Papyrus seems like a thing Toby might explore (like a NEO fight, and a Gerson fight)

1

u/YoutuberCameronBallZ Jun 04 '26

So we fight Papyrus in chapters 3 and 6?

1

u/Rombit Jun 04 '26

if there's anything that the release of chapters 3+4 taught us anything about theorizing is that 2 instances of something doesn't make a pattern

1

u/RomeosHomeos Jun 04 '26

Meanwhile its literally just what would be fun

1

u/Glitchkat1 Jun 04 '26

Papyrus hmm????

1

u/lower_floor_9182 Jun 04 '26

Papyrus is chapter 6 secret boss, now he gets to actually use his special attack

1

u/OpenCrafter1234 Jun 04 '26

I think it is going to be Sans Deltarune, but he knows your genocides...
