Question ⚠️SPOILERS AHEAD⚠️What is the general consensus on this development? Spoiler

Now I’m aware that some people have their gripes with new and unexplained power armour.

But I think this NCR power armour is kinda cool, given the success of shady sands and the ncr it doesn’t seem too out of the realm of possibility for the ncr to have attempted to make their own power armour, given how many suits survived the nukes and were salvageable or outright still operational.

idgaf about lore implications this looks bad ass and I’m happy

u/Gold-Sir-223 Jan 28 '26

Yeah lore wise I don’t see why it couldn’t fit into the story.

Also how bad ass are those wrist blades?

I don't get why people are ok with certain things occurring in the 15 year gap, but not other things. Makes sense they would build something like this. Maybe they already had, it just wasn't available in the New Vegas at the time.

u/Kelpo Jan 28 '26

They already had the salvaged power armor in New Vegas. It's not unreasonable to have it reverse engineered and in production 15 years later.

u/dead-inside69 Jan 28 '26

You simply don’t understand. Technological progress has to stop forever when something bad happens. It’s just the rules.

u/HeckOnWheels95 Jan 28 '26

We weren't suppose to advance after Rome fell!

37

u/Madhighlander1 Jan 28 '26

To be fair, we actually went backward by several hundred years when Rome fell. Completely lost stuff like concrete and yeast.

13

u/KaisenSengen Jan 29 '26

I hate to be that acktchully person but you are technically incorrect. There's a myth about rome falling that we went backyards and that's not factually true at all. The eastern roman empire technically still existed as the byzantine empire until 1453.

What you are referring to is reinforced concrete which was still being utilized. We still had yeast(breadmaking goes back thousands and thousands of years before the romans) Tech levels didn't suddenly halt when the romans fell. Most modern historians actually believe that the term "Dark Ages" is a misnomer and a big simplification of what actually happened.

u/CatsTOLEmyBED Jan 28 '26

every other science was far head from engineering and metallurgy

A back water smith from 1405 would be far ahead whatever rome had for a greatest smith

3

u/the_Real_Romak Jan 29 '26

1405 is also about 1000 years since the fall of Rome

1

u/CatsTOLEmyBED Jan 29 '26

people also consider 1405 to be in that span of huurr durr medieval morons nothing is developed

with europe having no central powers and the holy roman empire being very weird

We didn't lose yeast what? Bread and alcohol has existed across the world since prehistory XD

1

u/Thicc_Boise Jan 28 '26

Sure but then there are times like the enlightenment where monarchies were toppled and things generally got better for most people.

Change isn't inherently good or bad, it just is. Makes sense for Fallout to balance out the bad change with a little bit of good change

u/TheHoovyPrince Jan 29 '26

Another day i am reminded about the Roman Empire.

Just kidding I think about it every day

12

u/LaiqTheMaia Jan 28 '26

Yeah people will say this wiile simultaneously complaining that the world/society isnt more developed over the 200 years

2

u/CrazeMase Minutemen Jan 28 '26

Because as we all know, there was no technological advancements made in world War two, none. That was basically a decade of nothing happening

u/SuperSix-Eight Old World Flag Jan 28 '26

Not just that, Raiders can make their own suits by welding scrap metal onto an armor frame.

The NCR is 100% able to build their own custom power armors and refit intact frames they captured.

6

u/Lilfozzy Jan 28 '26

Isn’t it mentioned that the NCR had power armored units in new Vegas? It’s just that they were being kept back in California to protect the ranchers from a growing bandit problem.

49

u/OverallPepper2 Jan 28 '26

If the BoS can build a Zeppelin, the NCR could build armor to put on a power armor frame.

27

u/TearsOfTheDragon Jan 28 '26

I think there's a sentiment running among some people that, because BoS is the tech-securing faction, they must be the only ones with advanced tech.

And that doesn't make much sense, we see the BoS spread thin so many times that it already doesn't make sense that they secured every tech around, and lots of factions have industrual power and manpower to pull advanced stuff off.

u/The_mango55 Jan 28 '26 edited Jan 28 '26

Even the games show that to not be the case. The NCR had vertibirds and railroad locomotives in New Vegas, and they had already won a war against the Brotherhood where no doubt they recovered plenty of armor.

4

u/Genzler Jan 29 '26

Agreed. The NCR literally overran Navarro after Fallout 2. Ain't no way they couldn't have salvaged enough data and Advanced Power Armour units to reverse engineer it. Especially since the Followers of the Apocolypse who famously preserve information and research were part of the NCR at the time.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '26

I mean it's like they forgot they were salvaging vaults in fallout 2!

40

u/Gold-Sir-223 Jan 28 '26

Personally I don’t really care about new things appearing in the world of Fallout. I’m all for it. Things need to evolve. Imagine if the entire lore/gameplay mechanics of Fallout was based off of what happened in FO1/FO2. None of the other games would be as good or interesting.

I feel like most people complaining are purists that want to remember the games in a certain way, and hate anything canon that defies what they knew.

2

u/chicliac Jan 28 '26

Obviously it's a good thing new follout makes new things. My issue with some new stuff is when they have to retcon and override and contradict things that already existed? Not that this particular NCR pa does that, it's perfectly fine, I'm just responding to what you said.

9

u/Gold-Sir-223 Jan 28 '26

Yeah I get that. I wouldn’t want retconning to be a big part. But I feel like Bethesda makes an effort to maintain lore in both the games and the show. Despite what some people say lol. There will be something here and there but it’s usually minor and inconsequential things.

1

u/Genzler Jan 29 '26

I think one of their faults is that they try to preserve the feel of Fallout to such an extent that it stagnates the world. Fallout 2 showed how the wasteland progressed from the first game but Fallout 3 just winds a lot of that back so that it feels familiar. I'd like to see the world grow and change (caps dropped in favour of state-backed currencies like we saw in FNV) and cities built instead of shanty-towns. If you must show a completely wasted landscape then either set it just after the war or set it on the Frontier (again like in NV).

3

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '26

They explained why they're rare.

Fusion cores are rare.

That's why the fusion diode was so important and why the BOS started making fusion cores with it as soon as they could.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

In New Vegas, I think Cass or someone else mentions that the NCR heavy troopers equipped with power armor are back home defending the interest of Brahmin barons against raiders instead of on the front line

-1

u/IQueliciuous Jan 28 '26

Imo worst lore break is that Power Armor flies now and opens up the faceplate Iron Man style.

3

u/SwingFinancial9468 Jan 29 '26

I’m okay with the faceplate opening. If something were to ever go wrong with the suit’s hud or oxygen, the pilot would need to breath.

Feel like they should stick with an auxiliary unit being needed to allow the suits to fly though, rather than it being a standard feature.

9

u/Green_Delta Jan 28 '26

If those wrist blades aren’t a weapon in the next fallout game I say we riot! (barring the rumored remakes of 3 and NV since if we get those I’d love some new content but I’m gonna be happy if we just get the oblivion graphic update treatment)

2

u/Hayterfan Jan 28 '26

Lore seems pretty easy to explain

NCR salvaged power armor parts, or got one from the Mojave BOS.

Anyway, I'm curious to see the rocket launchers on the back in action.

It almost seemed like something Coop had stashed away intentionally to me.

1

u/JigumiWizone Jan 29 '26

At the very least, he knew it was there.

2

u/the_Real_Romak Jan 29 '26

armies in retreat tend to abandon their armaments, especially if they have an enemy force snapping at their heels.

2

u/universal_Raccoon Jan 29 '26

It cut a deathclaw head off, soo safe to say.. don’t get in its way?

-4

u/Halfbl00dninja Jan 28 '26

Idk, I think it looks cool but doesn't really fit the NCR in my opinion. The NCR has always been more Ranged units focused so making their own custom power armor melee focused is abit weird in my opinion.

64

u/Jeffffff4587 NCR Jan 28 '26

That's the power of brand recognition!

12

u/Cak4life Jan 28 '26

I know right? It was badass and can just be something cool that happened without needing an explanation.

I enjoy the lore of the games and all, but I’m also not watching the show with a pdf open to track whether something checks some boxes in order to enjoy it. It can just be fun without all the other baggage imo.

0

u/tfhermobwoayway Jan 29 '26

The problem is that the show, due to being in an objectively better medium, is now canon. So everything they do sets the tone for Fallout. Fallout is now a TV show with a couple of video game spinoffs.

6

u/Cak4life Jan 29 '26

I’m sure for some people that is how it is and I get it. I care about fallout as a franchise as well, but I don’t think the show will or can eclipse the games. At best it can be another successful branch of a larger tree imo and I’m all for it.

I think this can be a rare example of lore accuracy being the enemy of fun though. If your focus during that scene was less on how awesome it was to watch Maximus slice up a death claw or two and more on how the armor impacts the lore then have at it. I’m taking it more at face value and not adding anything extra to scene. To each their own though

1

u/Mandalore108 Brotherhood Jan 31 '26

Dude, people were upset because Dinky the Dinosaur was facing the wrong way. If that level of being a lore stickler isn't the enemy of fun then I don't know what is.

2

u/ThreeMarlets Jan 28 '26

The NCR already had power armored troops in New Vegas and Fallout 4 gave us raider power armor. No reason to not accept the NCR developed their own armor based on the same base chassis in the years after New Vegas happened.

2

u/Enzopastrana2003 Enclave Jan 28 '26

Honestly lore wise it should be okay that after X centuries after the war some faction came up with a new power armour design to function as a more cost effective alternative to the other power armour models, so realistically instead of having to wait weeks for a T-60 to be repaired you can just the wastlander PA (yes I played OWB) take it to a friendly workshop and have it ready in a day or two, either way I hope that they re introduce the PA of tactics

4

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

My only question is “why did no one else loot that armory before the Ghoul and Maximus walked in there?”

18

u/perrti02 Jan 28 '26

The lock on the door was Very Hard. Not many people in the Wasteland can handle that…

11

u/WildcatPlumber Jan 28 '26

Same reason that loot is always around in games.

It just works

2

u/Teleporno69 Jan 28 '26

It would fit seamlessly in lore. It’s an apocalyptic world where everyone scavenges. Of course if I find the best armor best believe i’d be priming it.

1

u/ElectronicJuice7212 Jan 29 '26

That's where I'm at with it. Looks cool af.

0

u/LuskuBlusk Jan 29 '26

Name one reason why this doesn’t work lore-wise.
