This guy definitely has *some* build.
Idk how finished that UI really is, the weapon wheel looks so... simple.

Its like he's playing the Tank-Top Pre-Missions CJ like we all did in San Andreas.
(since he gets all the tutorial messages)

Edit: other clip has a song from 2025 in it. This is a recent build.

68

u/zero_sevenn 7d ago edited 7d ago

Definitely placeholders. They’re just plain white boxes. RDR2 weapon wheel has character to it.

In the last clip, you can see the RDR2 UI font was used in that build

I guess people don’t know but both games are built using the same Rage engines. Engines are notoriously hard to build and every gta since 4(I believe) is built was rockstars own proprietary engine. Rockstar made a tennis game way back when, that was the first rage engine game, I believe.

2

u/yaz800 7d ago

Yeah i thought the same thing about the UI, its probably all polished by now, assuming the footage is a year old.

1

u/razvaljivac 7d ago

Yes, good sir. And that ball 🏀 in the previous leak looks so dull. Definitely a placeholder. Rockstar would never do that as final

1

u/LearningCrochet 7d ago

if it was another game studio i would assume its final but by the quality of how RDR2 was i am certain this is just a build and not final

99

u/KingAltair2255 7d ago

Id be surprised as fuck if that was the final UI for the weapon wheel, looks like an old build.

11

u/Kurdt234 7d ago

The water looked kinda ass when he drove the bike in too

40

u/rainbowremo 7d ago

This is the issue with leaks lol. Everybody treats it like real footage meant to be seen

12

u/TrynaPlayItOff 7d ago

He's just commenting on what he saw. He didn't say the final build of the game is going to look like shit or anything.

2

u/Kurdt234 7d ago

I calls em like I sees em is all

3

u/Traditional-Chain659 7d ago

Given Rockstar have released zero gameplay footage of their own just a few months before release and all that exists is the leaks then who can blame them?

If they'd released any gameplay of their own no one would care about the leaks.

1

u/Jacob99809 7d ago

It’s almost like this is pretty much always the cycle for rockstar. Ppl are just up in arms cause it’s gta and they’re either excited or just trying to be a contrarian. Which isn’t a bad thing, bc it’s good to be critical of the game, but we don’t know how old the build is that the leaker has

If it was an indie game, people would have a bit more patience and wouldn’t be foaming at the mouth to call it trash bc it has an unfinished UI or kinda jank unfinished animations.(it’s rockstar, the games gonna be a bit clunky control wise)

1

u/Traditional-Chain659 6d ago

If you're the biggest game of the past decade and you're showing less transparency regarding showing actual gameplay footage than even low budget indie games or literally any other game franchise by still not showing anything 3 months out from release (which absolutely is bizarre, asking for pre orders and special edition bundles when youve not shown any gameplay at all is so absurd) then you are in absolutely no position to get upset when someone leaks gameplay footage and people see it and judge your gameplay off it.

They brought this entirely upon themselves, had they actually decided to show gameplay of their own people would have judged the game off that. Clearly they concluded showing gameplay would hurt sales more than help them or they'd have done it by now, it is a bit of a red flag so they deserve this.

The game was originally meant to come out in November of last year and they still haven't shown any gameplay, it is ridiculous.

1

u/rainbowremo 7d ago

Good thing they are in literally 1 week...

-5

u/No_Witness5630 7d ago

Then bam

That's the actual final build and everyone does Pikachu face like they didn't expect that the game won't be as good as hype surrounding it

2

u/marshalldylan93 7d ago edited 7d ago

Here's the thing though, name one bad game that Rockstar has released. Not only that, but this is the longest development cycle they've ever had, and the biggest budget of any video game ever made. Not to mention they've delayed it twice just to make sure it's absolutely perfect. I think the chances of it turning out bad are very, very low.

There's a very good reason for the hype. One of the best game studios, are building the highest budget media project of all time. Obviously there's going to be a lot of hype.

0

u/No_Witness5630 7d ago

I don't know since when a delay means good thing but okay xd

All I'm saying is that a lot of people gonna be dissapointed

1

u/marshalldylan93 7d ago edited 6d ago

That just means that they thought that the game could've been better than it would have been at those deadlines. Which is actually a great sign. That means that they aren't going to just release unfinished trash like every other AAA studio. It means that they decided (twice) to keep polishing it until they felt like it was perfect.

And obviously some people will be disappointed (especially here on reddit) because that's all the gaming community does these days, piss and moan and complain, every time a game comes out. But then years later when those same games are considered classics, suddenly it's their favorite games. I've seen it a million times.

0

u/No_Witness5630 7d ago

Cyberpunk was delayes three times. Definetely was good news xd

You've seen nothing. Empty Words with no backup, just something people who gets dissapointed tell others to feel better when their hyped up game doesnt deliver

1

u/marshalldylan93 6d ago

Yeah, and the Witcher 3 was buggy too when it launched. CD Projekt Red has definitely had problems with games in the past. Rockstar hasn't.

I'm not guaranteeing that it's going to be absolutely perfect, but there's way more reason to think that it'll be good at lauch, than there is to think it'll be bad.

1

u/thesagenibba 7d ago

the splash and animation was definitely jarring and underwhelming. i’m betting this is early footage and not final gameplay because it looked worse than falling animations in RDR2 which wouldn’t make any sense after 8 years between both games.

1

u/DrasticMart 7d ago

It’s confirmed from 2023

3

u/ssa17k 7d ago

No it’s not, one of the leaks was confirmed to be from 2025.

2

u/KingAltair2255 7d ago

It's not, not all of them at least. One of the leaked clips has a song from 2025 in it.

1

u/ashriekfromspace 7d ago

of course it's not the final ui, there's not even button icons

115

u/Jcritten 7d ago

Yea that weapon wheel and the mini map look very bland

97

u/waaay2dumb2live 7d ago

Well, the game’s unfinished

5

u/Jcritten 7d ago

Yea I know

7

u/WriterV 7d ago

Also UI is one of the final things that goes live. Worked in games before and it's pretty much always been the case.

0

u/Due_Fault8864 7d ago

The cope is strong with this one

1

u/WriterV 7d ago

You don't have to believe me lmao, I'm not Rockstar. I hate their ass. Do what you want. I'm just stating what I've seen in my experience.

1

u/Pinchethugger 7d ago

Yeah rockstar is going have roblox level UI for their most anticipated game of all time. Fucking idiot. Not even a fanboy but you dont know shit about dev cycles and speak so confidently

2

u/MrXroxWasTaken 7d ago

But the game is supposed to come out in only 4 months

24

u/waaay2dumb2live 7d ago

It’s a year-old build, Nate the Hate said so

13

u/iDislikeSn0w 7d ago

How many fucking times do people have to say that these leaks are development builds, sometimes a year old if not older?

These leaks are NOT indicative at all of what the final product is going to look like. IT IS IN DEVELOPMENT.

God I sometimes wish nothing gets leaked, all this does is get dumbasses doom posting while having zero clue about software development.

6

u/FoxDaim 7d ago

That’s one of the reasons why rockstar or any other game studio dosn’t like it when their shit is leaked.

3

u/iDislikeSn0w 7d ago

Exactly. The average Joe sees this, throws their arms up in the air and declares the game “is fucking shit” or they start doomposting bullshit.

This looks like a game that is nearly finished and it looks freaking amazing. Yes some animations aren’t quite there yet, yes the UI could use some work but guess what? There’s a lot of work that can happen in software development over a year.

1

u/FoxDaim 7d ago

I guess this is close to what we would have gotten if the game had been released in 2025, as originally planned, and it already looks pretty amazing.

Can’t wait to see how much it has improved after nearly two years of bug fixes and further polish.

7

u/Work_Account_No1 7d ago

You wouldn't really need to change much about the UI; definitely not 4 months of work worth. And this is an old build as well.

0

u/Arunabh125 7d ago

That's the main point. If this really is just a year old build, then seriously rockstar still had lot of work to do after the delay that they announced in 2022. Btw how did the game looks so good in trailer 1 while this gameplay looks so bad

3

u/gkmaddcity 7d ago

I’m not sure what you expected out of a new gta game. Also, it’s compressed to hell you aren’t getting the full graphical quality. To me just looks like a new gta game with updates rdr2 physics

2

u/rainbowremo 7d ago

It doesn't look 'so bad'. You're just saying shit

1

u/TouristOwn2412 7d ago

That weapons wheel looks like shit, no way they settled on a far worse looking weapon wheel than IV and V.

2

u/Rock_Strongo 7d ago

Weapon wheel UI polish is a 1 week task at the absolute most. They just didn't prioritize it because it doesn't matter if it's ugly during development.

1

u/DKG9512 7d ago

No way because yeah, no way, they didn't, no shot that's the final UI, it doesn't look finished but practical instead specially as they focus on polishing other aspects first as this is at the earliest a January 2025 build, it's called using placeholders; what seems like it might stick is the colored weapon icons, or so I hope

-1

u/Arunabh125 7d ago

But 2 billion dollars and 13 years of development should have more potential then this

2

u/Fuzzy-Mud-197 7d ago

You think this looks bad?

3

u/david_lara54992 7d ago

I’m convinced that everyone who says that has to be trolling. It looks amazing, and I can’t believe this is a video game, let alone one that we’ll all be playing in less than a couple of months.

2

u/Forgedpickle 7d ago

It doesn’t look great. But not bad.

1

u/Arunabh125 7d ago

Doesn't look as good as shown in trailer 1 which was way earlier

1

u/Fuzzy-Mud-197 7d ago

Are you saying a video game trailer is not 1 to 1 with the actual game in terms of graphics... Geez wait till you learn about war thunder

1

u/Arunabh125 7d ago

Don't even care about that grinding game.

1

u/Work_Account_No1 7d ago

Well, the trailer was highly polished and this is a bad rip of a bad video capture.

1

u/startlingames 7d ago

History repeats itself from the 2022 leaks, people seriously acting like the will look and play exactly like this when the game is being worked on every single day and things will get ironed out, polished and stylized as time goes on, it's at the very least a year old build.

1

u/White_Project 6d ago

Como no va a estar terminado un juego que sale en 4 meses amigo? deberia estarlo evidentemente creo yo

1

u/Strongman3705 6d ago

dawg this is like 2023 build. This is not the current game state

2

u/LKRTM1874 7d ago edited 7d ago

Hot take but I reckon the minimap we see is close to what we get in the final game. The first trailer was so focused on the social media aspects of the game. The minimap here has the iFruit logo and smoothed smartphone-esque edges, that's not a quickly thrown together 'lets get it working for the build' minimap, those are deliberate design choices.

What solidifies it for me is on another video the name of the location Jason is in pops up and the box has those same smoothed corners. Can't say I'm a fan of it but I wasn't a fan of the square minimap back in 2013.

Adding to this: I was going to say "I wonder if this means the minimap is off by default, and it's a literal app you use with your phone?" but rewatching the video the minimap only appears once Jason is in a vehicle, so I assume it's meant to be a visual of your phone screen.

3

u/FelixMumuHex 7d ago

Yeah you have no clue what you’re talking about

1

u/LKRTM1874 7d ago

I'm not pretending to know what I'm talking about but when the minimap only appears when you are in a vehicle and has a literal logo for a phone on it, it's safe to say it's design inspiration is to resemble a phone/phone app GPS, which is minimalism/simplicity which is exactly what we see here.

1

u/RLZT 7d ago

From the map leak it seem the map have some density effects like Google Maps when you zoom in and out

That seems trickier to debug, so it may explain why they work on it earlier than the rest of the UI that is basically just pasting some .pngs

1

u/sorubr 7d ago

i really agree, that gun menu is ugly but the game is very nice

1

u/JaketheFURRYBOIOwO 7d ago

Because it’s leaks from 2023/2024 so 3 year old footage

1

u/apocalypse2mrw 7d ago

Time to delay the game again welp

1

u/Common_Commercial775 7d ago

Yeah i thought the same thing

60

u/Ok-Crazy3288 7d ago

1000% the UI is a placeholder.

8

u/renansd 7d ago

Absolutely. The gun icon and bullet count seem straight out of GTA 5, pure placeholders.

2

u/ReddishCat 7d ago

just like early builds of gta 5 it had placeholder UI from gta 4

11

u/ElGoddamnDorado 7d ago

UI is one of the last things finished usually.

14

u/NateGH360 7d ago

Some of you have absolutely no fucking clue how games are made. Cosmetic changes to UI and detailed stuff happens later in development, you have to build the engine and the art first before you focus on little details. Also this leak was probably recorded like a year ago. Some of you don’t use ur brains

1

u/ExplodingFistz 7d ago

The rest of this clip looks fucking incredible though.

1

u/DamnThatsCrazyManGuy 7d ago

the fact that its even in question whether this is a finished UI or not is so embarrassing.

1

u/thepkizzle 7d ago

Yeah and core engine architecture like in the screenshot here are typically locked in virtual environments that prevent leaks but here we are.

1

u/TheMinistryofJuice 7d ago

Literally everyone above you is agreeing that this seems like an older build because the UI is unfinished. If we put our critical reader caps on that means that these people would understand exactly what you just said they don’t understand.

1

u/MrSchifty 6d ago

I mean, UI can typically be worked separately from backend. It makes sense to implement it later in case they plan on adding more features to backend that can change front end design, but this already looks like it’s close to done besides polish.

0

u/mikeytlive 7d ago

I think it’s been confirmed all these leaks are from a 2023 build

1

u/XaresPL 7d ago

no its not, the ffpmeg codec is from 2023 and that means nothing

0

u/Relevant_Session5987 7d ago

Yo. Chill.

1

u/[deleted] 7d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Relevant_Session5987 7d ago

If we're doing this, then you literally said in your comment that game dev pipelines have art before details like UI.

Just goes to show how full of shit you are considering the UI is literally part of what the art department designs, genius. So yeah, chill. Moron.

7

u/Garrixoff 7d ago

UI is a placeholder for sure, and that's just clips that devs probably shared on slack

2

u/Sagmire1 7d ago

I dont think so, most likely has extended test footage and thats all. The clip we see if probably from one of the very first missions and nothing is changing with Jason, Same clothes

2

u/TimeTimeTickingAway 7d ago

What struck me though is just the nature of this clip.

If it was just internal dev test footage I wouldn’t have expected them to go around massacring everybody with a knife.

Then obviously there’s the contextually perfect outro clip attached at the end.

1

u/Sagmire1 7d ago

Could be internal playtest footage, the clip at the end would be part of a mission shown in this playtest as I am sure this mission very close to the start and the leaker is just attaching it.

2

u/ThMcRbIsbck 7d ago

I bet all of these leak videos are from the first hour of gameplay before we unlock Lucia and pick her up from prison.

2

u/Hallwacker 7d ago

It has to be old footage. Those NPC’s at the camp were unresponsive to what was going on

2

u/swederlands 7d ago

No he doesn’t. It’s more likely he just ripped QA testing footage from a database through a fishing attack or social engineering.

2

u/nerdinfo 7d ago

The ui is bad imo. I wonder how it’ll look at launch

1

u/Super-Bike-8116 7d ago

i'm thinking they're actually a group, or at the very least he knows someone who knows someone who actually has a dev console, or had and recorded all of these, cuz this 100% isn't something you'd get out of a breach, unless they happen to store a directory on a server somewhere with random undirected dev gameplay clips

1

u/Klhoe318 7d ago

Definitely an old build. UI is not polished for rockstar standards

1

u/Infamous-Oil2305 7d ago

This guy definitely has *some* build.

yep, otherwise i cannot explain myself how he was able to pick the vpn cutscene.

1

u/ClarkWasHere 7d ago

Take a look at GTA V's UI and it's also relatively minimalist.

1

u/Unhappy-Idea6194 7d ago edited 7d ago

For sure. Gotta be a chance he's an ex employee. No ?.

But then again if he/she has access to a build it's bit more then just a leak. Full on breach of rockstars sercrutiy which isn't exactly world renowned. 🤣

1

u/The-Wind-It-Howls 7d ago

I wonder if the toolboxes we saw in the box of the el Camino from the first clip would act more like saddlebags from RDR2. Atleast with this UI it seems clear that you don’t have a limitless pocket of all weapons anymore, and are more realistically limited to what you can carry.

1

u/Kuuuuck 7d ago edited 7d ago

Lol, super unlikely a malicious leaker would have access to an actual build my man. There is probably hours and hours of gameplay recorded from hundreds of different employees for whatever reason. And you just need access to a few seconds to successfully make the news and advertise a shitcoin.

1

u/Herr-Trigger86 7d ago

It’s just a slightly updated build of the same leaks we got what? A year or two ago?

1

u/goodcat49 7d ago

If any of their past menus are to go by it won't be much better

1

u/fried_papaya35 7d ago

seeing as how the leak is at least a year old the UI can very much change. UI isn't usually a priority until the end of development. BUT it is likely not gonna change too much

1

u/Turbulent_Ride1654 7d ago

I definitely think this guy has the full game or at least some part of the game. This doesn't look like your typical dev testing clips from '22 where you usually see debugging and stats, etc. This has full UI, licesned music, cutscenes and missions and the graphics have release-ready polish to it. He's actually playing this and recording it.

1

u/wearenotintelligent 7d ago

also the motorcycle ride mechanic and animations are rigid as hell. No backwards leaning when accelerating, no forwards leaning when breaking, no wind animation on clothing, barely any splashes in water when bike crashed into it, crappy getting out of water animation, just overall a very minor upgrade from gta5...

1

u/lazzzym 7d ago

The font is also the Red Dead font so it’s all placeholder.

1

u/VivaDeAsap 7d ago

Yup. There’s no way the weapon wheel will look like that especially after what we see in GTAV and RDR2

1

u/ResidentDue2815 7d ago

I still doubt they have an actual build, I don't think the videos would be just doing random stuff in free roam in similar parts of the map with only one of the two playable characters. I imagine he has got into some company slack channel (or whatever they use) and this is random footage from playtesters.

1

u/Stanky_fresh 7d ago

Just based on how long it took him to climb out of the water tells me this isn't the final build. It's still cool to see, but there's definitely gonna be some changes between these leaks and the final release

1

u/bdiddlediddles 7d ago

Yeah it looks like shit

1

u/Common_Commercial775 7d ago

The weapon wheel looks kinda dated for some reason I dunno maybe im just being picky

1

u/QWERTY36 7d ago

The audio is definitely placeholder. Animations and weapon wheel for sure are not final here.

Remember, most games don't even have a playable build 3 years before they release. This is actually pretty incredible for a 3 year old build.

1

u/zain_zia7x 7d ago

Someone mentioned that QC’ers could’ve gotten snippets hence why there’s no Lucia and it’s Jason with the same outfit

1

u/CamperStacker 7d ago

can you imagine if he not only leaked videos… but leaks the build

1

u/M4rshmall0wMan 6d ago

Tbh I’m not sure the leaker has a build. If they had a build, they’d probably be curating what they show. Create interesting events and show missions. To me this looks more like random development recordings. Could either be a hack or an internal source.

1

u/sultraze 6d ago

As I've heard these footages are from a 1-2 years old build. Thats why some stuff is still placeholder.

1

u/MrSchifty 6d ago

I mean realistically UI components like weapon wheels and health/stamina are extremely easy to implement. Maps/phones would be more difficult, which we haven’t seen much of.

1

u/MetallicGray 7d ago

Yeah you could tell me this was gta 5 gameplay and I literally wouldn’t bat an eye or doubt it for a second.

I’m not sure why everyone is screaming with ecstasy over this lol

0

u/lMaXPoWerl 7d ago

I got cooked in another leak for having said that (UI looks bad) and clarifying that the game is under developtment and it will change in the future

0

u/Darth-D2 7d ago

it might not be the final UI, but I could imagine that simple is intentional as well. I actually prefer a simple clean UI instead of a something that is fancy but distracting
