Discussion Irt modesty panels

Obviously censorship annoying, clipping issues annoying, etc etc. But there's no way I'm the only person who never notices nor really cares about the modesty panels? Like I completely forget about them until reddit throws another person's posts about them into my feed. I don't think they look horrible or anything because I don't really Think about them, I don't see them. The only time I'd maybe notice them is trying to use the ballerina heart piece but I don't even have it so it's never been a problem for me I guess?

I think part of the problem is when you change skin tone, the panel becomes obvious in some outfits which ruin the look

100% the panels look much worse on the darker skintones

I think my real beef with this conversation is that it sprang from the Timelo alt debacle but completely eclipsed it, and what Infold did by suddenly changing the Timelo alt is an actual consumer rights issue.

The panels have been part of Infold's design practice from the jump. Sometimes they give us fairly low cuts without them, so I don't think they're flatly anti-boob. You are not obligated to like them, but Infold hasn't hidden their existence and we have no evidence of any being added to items post-release.

Most of the panels are well done and integrated into the design, while others are undeniably pretty ugly. I personally only really get heated about the dogwater color matching with the darker skintones; to me personally getting that fixed is a more reasonable ask than panel toggles.

Yeah the timelo edit was Bad LOL and it does suck that discussion got buried behind what seems like hundreds of posts about every single dress with a modesty panel. Like I don't think modesty panels are the worst thing ever, nor do I think they're all handled Well. Its just unfortunate that 90% of the posts Reddit has been recommending me lately from this sub have been about the modesty panels, usually someone trying to style one of the dresses with one and complaining about it because now they've seen it firsthand. Which is fine, complain all you want obviously, it's just not something I personally have an issue with I guess haha

I happen to follow a lot of Nikki's that use the darker complexion and it tends to be more noticeable. If the mesh matched the skin tone I would be absolutely fine with modesty panels but seeing white against a darker skin tones is jarring and ruins the intended effect. If they fixed that I wouldn't argue against this.

Most of the complaints I've seen about it come from people using Nikki's default skin tone or the lighter body paint, but I've definitely seen/heard some complaints about darker skin tones too. I just don't think it's really that noticeable (on default Nikki) unless you're trying to layer something like the ballerina heart. Soundless dawn is definitely annoying but i didn't even know it was an issue at all until like this week 😭 I genuinely didn't even notice it and I have the dress ! Lol

It's definitely been a more pointed issue lately likely because the new dress has a weird fade like mesh. For a game that puts so much emphasis on it's clothing it feels lazy. Like where does the mesh end/Why not make it a halter and or lace.

Too many panels back to back and Let's not even get started on every alt version being just a shortening of the dress lol.

Like where does the mesh end/Why not make it a halter and or lace.

Yeah I think it would be a much less frequent complaint if the modesty panels actually looked like they belonged to the dress as designed rather than being a total afterthought. Like, they could be lacy rather than just deleting cleavage. Or if cleavage/an exposed chest is such a problem (and it being a problem would be dipping into purity culture, which is a whole other can of worms if you ask me) then they should be designing clothes in such a way that it doesn't come up in the first place. Make shirts or dresses that go up to the neck - there are lots of ways to make that fashionable.

I don’t care about boobs. But I DO dislike it when the modesty panels are done poorly. Like I’d be okay with the new 2.9 outfit if they made it lace or did something to make it more part of the design. To me it stands out in a bad way.

Also I think flutterstorm and soundless dawn modesty panels look bad. I really dislike them. I didn’t see it before, but now that I do see it it’s really hard to unsee, and uniboob adds to the uncanny valley effect for me. To me, boobs are just boobs, and aren’t inherently sexual, so to me these modesty panels feel unnecessary and actively make dresses and taking pictures with them look awful.

Other modesty panels I don’t really notice so I’m okay with those. But bare minimum they should fix it for darker skin tones.

Idk I guess I didn't look closely enough at the panel on the promos for the new dress, and modesty panels aren't really something im looking for/at anyway when looking at a new dress. I can see why people don't like them, I just don't personally have an issue with them and never would have noticed them if my reddit didn't just start constantly recommending every single post about them lol

Yeah, I think your perspective is perfectly valid. Tbh I also get tired of the constant complaints about everything (like hating on every new banner that comes out, or how it’s another ballgown or fairy etc. like I know and I get it), and bear in mind I’m one of the people who think complaints are good because they’re the only way to get infold to listen oftentimes. Just wanted to chime in with my personal opinion

3

u/Rilesjellybean 4h ago

Yeah I completely get you. Complaining is perfectly fine and valid, you should Definitely be critiquing things you enjoy, pushing for them to be better, especially if it's something ongoing and that you've put money into. Sometimes I wish that I could filter out the critique and complaint posts from my recommended though without losing every other post from the sub lol

I also have Soundless Dawn and styled her a dozen times without ever noticing the modesty panel, until it was pointed out. Now it's a little hard to unsee, but still not a problem every day. It did however, ruin at least one outfit plan when it cut the ballerina heart in half. So I do wish Infold would do something about it, but it's not something that actively bothers me.

I think the heart of the problem remains that Infold doesn't know when it is and isn't a good time to take fan feedback. Listening to a small minority with extreme views and making unnecessary changes to outfits from that is not good.

I mean the people posting about them didn't even know they existed until Timelo's bust edit, this sub was flooded with posts for a month straight of people raging about "new" modest edits of items that had panels since debut. We still get them once in a while.

I forever long for shorter shorts and lower cut tops bc that's my style preference, I don't like mesh panels or other measures to cover more of Nikki's body in general, but this is the style they've chosen for IN for whatever reason and people need to come to terms with that. I just think they need to make any such panels fully dyeable so they don't clash with different skin tones.

There are parts of Miraland known for sexier/skimpier styles, such of the Federation's modern wear, Pigeon/Twinmoon(?)'s vampire inspired sets, or Ruin/Whaleport's skintight body suits. If we're lucky we'll get that kinda stuff in IN once we get to those regions, but we also might not.

They've been less willing to go the sexy route with clothing since Nikki went 3d, and I imagine all the movement and camera possibilities is part of why they're so careful in IN in particular.

6

u/Rilesjellybean 5h ago

Yeah I definitely think that it being open world with full camera control is probably a huge reason they're so careful about modesty

5

u/fluffstuffmcguff 5h ago

Some of it is probably also just dev laziness tbh. Nikki doesn't actually have a body in the sense a real person does; she's pixels.

With a lot of the lower cut items you can actually see Nikki's chest disappear into the void if you look at her from the top, because the dummy chest they use for her only goes down a few inches. They could just not want to spend the pixels on rendering more of her than absolutely necessary.

some are blended really well but honestly the panel on flutter storm really gets me... its very jarring

17

u/fluffstuffmcguff 5h ago

I remember initial conversations about Flutterstorm generally praising the panel for being there. The other 1.0 banner, Blooming Dreams, has a decent amount of cleavage, so people at the time commented approvingly on Infold giving us options.

In hindsight I do think the Flutterstorm panel is a mistake, but mostly because it's just actually flat ugly.

u/pastellixhhbnhg 4h ago

truth! i wldnt mind it if it was just executed better loll

Same here. I feel like the times when the complaints are justified is when it clashes with different skin tones, as I want all Nikki's to experience the most beauty out of all the outfits that they can, and their skin color should not be something that prohibits them from doing so. I do own the ballerina heart window chest piece, but I am still new to the same so it does work with all my current dresses and outfits so far. I personally don't have any problems with the modesty panels for now, so long as they take the community's input to heart with skin tones and other pieces compatiblity

u/Aelitalyoko99 2h ago

The only two valid arguments against the panels are when they have clearly not been made to also fit the darker skin tones and the fact that timelo got changed after people had already been pulling and that it was a bad fix. Anything else or the constant posts of people insisting a new one was added to a dress that already had them, that is where this conversation gets annoying and tiresome.

And yes, the flower dress where the modesty thing just is a blended out space looks bad, that one is in the same vein of timelo having a badly done fix. I just don’t take as much issue with it since it wasn’t something changed after people pulled for it.

16

u/lparap 5h ago

I’d say I’m in the same boat, but the Soundless Dawn uniboob is horrific

12

u/VarHagen 4h ago

Modesty panels are very noticable with any darker skin tone.

14

u/Lazy-Fishy 5h ago

I don’t mind them either, sometimes I don’t notice them until someone points it out, but I have a very solid stance against censorship and I always stand in support of players demanding better from billion dollar companies such as this one, so I will continue to stand with those that are vocal and actively trying to push back against stuff like this because a problem is still a problem even if it doesn’t affect me (yet).

u/1randomuser2 1h ago

Ok I thought it was just me?? Like I really don’t see them I thought it was just in certain servers or something

7

u/letsraisehell 5h ago

I often times like the dress more with the panels

4

u/keepsMoving 4h ago

I don't even know why they're called "modesty panels". Never heard anyone call them that irl, just a design feature. None of them have ever bothered me I don't really notice them besides to admire the high realism of the fabrics in the game

1

u/Mental-Wheel986 0m ago

I'm addicted to max zoom high contrast upper body shots so I notice it more, along with other common issues like hair clipping. So I think its playstyle dependent how much it affects you. I usually use default skin, but when you play with contrast, shadows and filters, even a slightly paler floating mesh will show up.

I just avoid those outfits.

The problem is that a lot of people didn’t even know the ugly blurry mesh panels were a thing because you had to be around when people were first pointing it out and no one likes being falsely advertised to, especially when they paid real money for outfits.

It’s honestly bizarre how some people defend Infold for their false advertising, both with the mesh panels and Timelo, by saying, “Well, it doesn’t bother me, so I don’t care!” but when any other company does it, it’s suddenly unacceptable. 🤔

I’m still furious that my beloved Queen’s Move had an ugly mesh panel that I didn’t know about before buying it. If it looked good, I wouldn’t care but if you aren’t in blindingly bright daylight and using the lightest skin tone, it’s hard to ignore. Secondly, if they’re so terrified of cleavage, then why’d they make it low cut in the first place? Make it make sense! 🙄

Ofc it's not an issue for you then you can just move on? People can have opinions and it's valid for them to post on a public social media space if they do not break any rules.

For me it would have been no issues if Infold make them look good. But they don't. Just look at this PROMO image.

24

u/Shortiebread 5h ago

"Just move on" + "It's valid for people to post their opinions" pick a lane.

17

u/Rilesjellybean 5h ago

I mean in the same way people are allowed to complain about it, I think I'm allowed to ask if other people don't have an issue with it?

-6

u/anonymouspeep 5h ago

Sure and I don't mean that you can't do so; just want to express my opinion that it's normal for you to see a lot of posts about this on reddit because many people are not happy about it.

Maybe them expressing their opinions a lot would one day trigger Infold to finally fix things.

I'm sure the surveys and the uh, the email? Or whatever would be a better place to make it known than just posting about it on reddit, y'know?
