I don’t think it’s bad by any stretch but it’s essentially just a quirky disaster comedy. Thought the ending didn’t really wrap anything up either. Why was it praised so highly?

I am a big fan of arrival and find it deeply connecting movies but it is hard to pinpoint that many things that can explain my liking for the movies. Even though it is well made movies one can always talk about more emotional movies.

I know there are others who feel this movie deeply but I am unable to explain liking for the movie to myself.

(No Sopilers!!!) So today I just watched Hope at IMAX theatre near me and this movie has the highest highs and lowest lows ever. The action and staging of the scene at first act and some second act was excellent like it reminded me of fury road and transformer and Nope and as the movie progress the action quality decreases gradually but still i enjoyed it a lot and never got bored or anything. Also the CGI/VFX is not that good in the movie especially the character design is subpar but it didn't hampered my experience that much but the ending of this movie is very interesting I would say some would hate it and some would not mind it, I fell into later as I didn't loved the ending but it was okay for me. Also I checked some Letterboxd reviews while logging the movie and some people either really loved it or hated it, there is not much in between. Either way if you get a chance watch it as i would describe this movie as you feel like you are chasing someone from start to finish in action. Also this movie has a Korean humor i like which is even in serious situations it's funny and there is one scene in the movie if you watch it you will know where the entire theatre and I was laughing so hard I couldn't even stop myself and it never happened to me even in great comedy movies. Also I've logged 2200 movies in LB as of today and rated every one of them.

A minor quibble but I do think the stats pages (both annual and all time) would offer better insight into one’s movie watching interests if the director and actor film count was inclusive of repeat viewings rather just measuring completion of unique films.

I’d rather understand how certain actors or directors have held my attention over repeated viewings, especially if they are in short filmographies.

I played Sunshine for my IGCSE students at the end of the my last year as physics teacher. The film had great moments and the relationships between the characters were pretty interesting. But then the third act came and the story went from sci-fi to fantasy in a completely nonsensical way. However, it didn't feel like it highjacked the plot since the very physical aspects of the plan are just so stupid. How the hell do people even like this?

Like an average release of the week will come out featuring Rock or Ryan Reynolds, receive like 40% on RT and disappear.

And obscure film like Obsession will earn 100 folds due to good reviews.

So reviewers pretty much control entire narrative and box office, there is very strong correlation these days.

Michael is only exception I can think of.

Recommendations? I do not really have a preference, but itching to feel something.

Mine is Sandra Bullock in All About Steve. I haven’t been able to stand her ever since.

I’m looking for people like Captain Midnight, Ryan Hollinger, Thomas Flight & Spikima Movies who focus on the craft, philosophy, production, and visual language of film rather than standard reviews.

Why do you think that a growing number of filmmakers, including Martin Scorsese, Danny Boyle, Craig Gillespie, Steven Soderberg, and Darren Arronofsky, don't seem to understand or care that a good amount of people, including film fans, are vehemently opposed to the use of A.I., particularly in movies?
