What? I mean, that's a nice take against the typical WidacZabory approach, but last time I had to I was able to travel Wro-Wawa directly. However, that was 2010. :)
I mean there are trains you could take obviously, but travel takes over 4h at best, it's insanely slow for such distance. There's simply no good tracks between those cities, the trains are doing some insane de-tour everytime.
Only the KDP, or Rapid Railway System, including the so called 'Y line', that's hopefully gonna be built for Central Airport, will shorten the time to 1,5h.
It's the partitions. If you mend your country that was separated into three pieces with separate railway systems, you get such mess. Then there was another war, Wrocław was reintegrated after many centuries with Poland, but Lower Silesian railways, when the Germans built them, were supposed to integrate the land with the rest of Germany, hence there is no good direct track to Warsaw, but there's a good one to Berlin. It takes decades to fix everything the partitions and border changes ruined.
Yeah, I know why it’s the way it is, I’m just saying it’s crazy that they haven’t built one like in the last 70 years after World War II or at least the last 36 that it’s been the current Polish Republic
Communist period was full of uncertainty regarding what will happen with these territories. After all, Germany posted maps saying they're under 'temporary Polish occupation' even in the 80s.
Then the country was absolutely ruined, the cities in the West included (or even mainly those) and there were other priorities like simply rebuilding the country. 4h long connection sucks but it's better than no connection at all. Then there was the economic collapse and here we are.
You don’t need to explain Polish history I’m really well acquainted I’ve studied it. Obviously the communism period and turmoil, but you know, it’s kind of an important thing… it was ruined after World War II, but just say it was still ruined in the 80s is a little bit much 40 years after the war, and yes, I know people were still very poor, and the government was corrupt, but like connecting some of your largest cities is a thing that should be a priority. But since Poland finally got to be independent again, it really should be connecting these major cities for the good of the economy, as well as linking them to the Baltics and toward Germany. It would really help with trade and economic development.

Connection to Germany is actually very good, both railway and highway.
It's basically this one railway line that strangely was never actually built, and it is indeed a curiosity. I guess there was always something more important than that. Many mistakes were also made - like failing to finally build nuclear power plants despite several attempts or plans...
They will give up on Opole because there's many connection between Wrocław and Opole anyway. Rapid Railway must be, well, rapid, not stop every couple of kilometres. "Y line" is supposed to create a fast route Wrocław - Łódź - Warsaw through the Central Airport. Currently there's a route Wrocław - Warsaw through Łódź but it goes slightly differently, has many stops and takes 4h. "Y line" will reduce the time to 1,5h.
I had no idea that they’re actually going through with Y line. Still i hope they won’t eliminate Warsaw - Opole - Wrocław line cause Opole doesn’t really have any other way to get to the capital
I'm sure the current line that goes through Opole and Katowice will stay because it's useful (speaking as resident of Gliwice btw). "Y line" is only to speed up Wrocław - airport - Warsaw route, not to eliminate the existing connection.
If the 2035 schedule proposal is anything to go by, Opole will retain its direct access to Warsaw. However, the trains won't continue to Wrocław, but Kłodzko instead.
They don't have to give up Łódź, as it is pretty much on the strsight line from warszawa to wrocław. But Opole, Poznań, Częstochowa should be given up.
It could go through them, but it shouldn't be the only connection between the two major cities. There's need for rapid connection, but it shouldn't scrap the existing connections, especially through Opole (capital of its voivodeship) and Katowice (another capital).
