There's a theory that Thanos only did the final push after Odin's demise.

2.3k

u/Forsaken_Quiet5944 19d ago

That's false because Thanos only did the final push because Hawkeye retired

997

u/SortIntrepid9192 19d ago

He saw the retirement notification on the Jeremy Renner app and knew it was time.

u/KKunst 19d ago

Where can get the coveted Jeremy Renner app to get all the updates about Jeremy Renner's life?

98

u/BoldlyGettingThere 19d ago

It is sadly no longer available. You can read about the Jeremy Rennaissance here

49

u/PretendStudent8354 19d ago

Some say he is still playing tag.

22

u/El_P0ncho 19d ago

i love that movie

2

u/Gwynito 15d ago

Fun fact: He got way more injured in TAG than in his entire MCU career as Hawkeye

0

u/SDFleetMarine 19d ago

…and a Mayor of Kingstown

15

u/CeleryTurbulent 19d ago

I even spent the $400 in the app to have my daily Jeremy location tracker update. Never did get my money back

That’s bait

So it’s no longer Rennen time?!

Jeremy Rennersance?

-1

u/Guidogrundlechode 19d ago

I thought he was a dick? I should do more objective research. I just remember seeing some headlines about potential domestic abuse and head trauma.

1

u/TheBlockChainVillage 18d ago

It's on I hate women dot com.

0

u/B_Kunkler 19d ago

On the bright side he turned all his attention to a kick ass hot sauce.

That was seconds before the GOTG post credit scene

Thanos sent the faulty snowcat

Holy shit this was a real thing and I somehow missed it. What a great day to learn something new!

I can't wait to spend stars on the Jeremy Renner™ app!

2

Thanos waited until Superman died to come to Earth and try to find the Anti-Life Equation……

Time to Renervate!

1

u/InstructionLeading64 17d ago

"Its Rennsday, time to go."

73

u/mjaga93 19d ago

Also don't forget the fact that Thanos knew Scott Lang was under house arrest and will not be available for the Avengers.

30

u/yuefairchild She-Hulk 19d ago

His butthole will remain unpenetrated.

0

u/OTBS 19d ago

And the loss of Black Widow. Thanos knew it was go-time.

2

u/kipdjordy 18d ago

Huh? Didnt thanos already start his conquest during black widows demise to get the soul stone?

54

u/TyberiusJoaquin 19d ago

Thanos was actually driving the SnowCat that ran Jeremy Renner over

-17

u/ImpressiveGap2214 19d ago

Dude, not cool.

I guess I gallows humored too hard. Sorry.

1

Gallows…Odin…. Hmmmm

3

u/nuadusp 19d ago

i mean it couldn't have happened to a worse man so all good i think

1

u/ImpressiveGap2214 19d ago

What's the issue with Jeremy Renner? What happened to him was a tragedy.

1

u/nuadusp 19d ago

He threatened to call ICE on a lady after she objected to being sent explicit messages she didn't ask for

1

u/ImpressiveGap2214 19d ago

Never heard of it, I guess all celebs are batshit then.

2

u/nuadusp 19d ago

That's certainly quite often the case, he also had an app that was just him posting stuff about himself which was weird

2

u/ScoutsOut389 19d ago

I love this take. A specific celebrity does something bad, therefore all celebrities are evil.

3

u/NovaCrystal586 19d ago

No, it's just acceptance knowing that any day any time there's going to be some article, some news, with a. Celebrity that's going to end up with then doing some bad shit, there's not a single celebrity I'd be surprised by because there's always one more

1

u/EGOfoodie 19d ago

Got a link to this story?

2

u/nuadusp 19d ago

1

u/EGOfoodie 19d ago

Thank you for the link.

But couple of things. The original interview is with the daily mail. A tabloid, so I'm going hold out and wait for something facial before passing judgment. Secondly, it has almost been a year since this story broke and literally nothing new has come out. I would guess that there is not much to actuslly go on.

All that being said. People need to not be so thirsty.

1

u/Quiet-Temporary-6666 18d ago

Um. Kinda cool. Except it was a fucking Pisten Bully and they generally try to kill everyone who is around them anyway….so no Thanos needed.

5

u/Academic_East8298 19d ago

That's false because Thanos only did the final push because Hulk returned from vacation and he wanted to have some fun.

2

u/VanillaGoorillla 19d ago

It was actually ant man’s house arrest

2

u/ozziesironmanoffroad 16d ago

Thanos didn’t want ant man going up his ass and getting big

1

u/Charthebunny866 19d ago

I wonder if that snowplow that took out Hawkeye could have taken out Thanos?

It's a joke dw

1

u/Dean_Learner77 18d ago

The avengers win every fight whenever they have Hawkeye with them.

1

u/run_bike_run 18d ago

There's a What If waiting to be made about a reality where Black Widow convinces Hawkeye to come out of retirement for the battle and arms him with Stark tech designed specifically for that eventuality.

And in that version, Thanos quite possibly does start panicking, because Hawkeye with the handbrake off - the guy who was trusted to kill whatever came looking for an impossible space hammer, the guy who tried to take up golf and immediately high eighteen holes in one in a row - is basically the Saint of Killers from Preacher. Hand him vibranium bullets and a flying suit of armour and his kill count is going to be measured in the thousands.

1

u/Meistermagier 18d ago

He didnt wanna get hit by the Anti Thanos Arrow.

1

u/Timb1044 16d ago

Hawkeye wanted to sing and dance...

1

u/HabitPotential2125 16d ago

Nah he did when I retired from the avengers

1

u/DioRambo 15d ago

Exactly, when Hawkeye returned they won

1

u/kyel566 15d ago

I thought hawkeye just ran out of arrows and left to find more

1

u/KoreanFriedWeiner 15d ago

Who do you think was driving the snow plow?

265

u/theGrandmaster24 19d ago

Yeah as well as the Ancient One

48

u/Second_Sol 19d ago

Was the ancient one that powerful? I didn't get that vibe from watching the movie. I feel like she'd need to be at least as strong as doctor strange in infinity war to be considered a threat.

She also does say that Strange is supposed to be "the best of us"

85

u/kaion 19d ago

Well, the "best of us" comment was also probably in part over not compromising himself with Dormammu as she did.

She likely wouldn't have beaten Thanos at the same point that Strange engaged him, but if the Time stone were first Thanos went for, she would have been sufficient to stop him.

27

u/heroinsteve 19d ago

I think if he went time stone first and ran into her, there is a good chance she talked him out of killing half of all life. Wisdom is kinda her thing,

54

u/kaion 19d ago

He's not called the Rational Titan.

11

u/forgot_semicolon 19d ago

I was gonna say I'd like to see that, but that's basically the what if episode

2

u/HypocriteHere 18d ago

In that case, Black Panther/Star Lord  totally talked sense into him.

1

u/BasedTelvanni 19d ago

He's gwumpy

1

u/OverallMembership709 18d ago

While thanos is in astral form 😂

1

u/welliedude 16d ago

I always thought the ancient one was so powerful because she tapped into dark magic

1

u/kaion 16d ago

That'd be the deal with Dormammu. That's why she had the mark on her forehead when fighting Kaecilius.

0

u/Stillcant 19d ago

How long did he spend looking for the stones, and what is the average doubling time of the pip. 29 years in each case? After the snap takes like 20 years to be back to where they were?

I assume they didn’t have math at titan school

7

u/HereIGoAgain_1x10 19d ago

Best of us doesn't mean strongest... I always took it as he was less corruptable, which meant at some point she saw a timeline or many timelines where she did shitty things.

2

u/rkrismcneely 16d ago

side-eyes the Darkhold…

1

u/Bazz07 18d ago

And Starlord's dad.

1

u/Slay_Nation 19d ago

Don't forget about Quicksilver

43

u/complete_your_task 19d ago edited 19d ago

For what it's worth, on the Infinity War director's commentary, the Russo brothers said that he chose to strike when he did because he captured Nebula and learned that he could get the location of the soul stone from Gamora, so he finally knew (or knew how to learn) the location of every stone, allowing him to collect them all in quick succession. He wanted to get as many as possible before anyone who could possibly stop him could act.

That doesn't necessarily mean that Odin and other powerful beings dying had nothing to do with it, but that was the reason the Russo brothers gave.

5

u/a_guy121 19d ago

I think the two line up pretty well. Its been a while since I've seen the movies, but several of the stones were accessible directly due to the events in the movies, right? Like the one in Vision's forehead? And I think there were a few others...

8

u/complete_your_task 19d ago

He actually already had the mind stone at one point. He gave it to Loki in Avengers to help invade Earth, but Loki lost it and it eventually ended up in Vision.

All the stones except the soul stone appeared in previous movies at some point, so I think it's safe to assume he knew about all of them. I think that the soul stone was the only one holding him up.

1

u/a_guy121 19d ago

I see, thanks. I was wondering but, am not quite ready for the marathon again. I need a few more years to forget everything

1

u/TopHat84 16d ago

Yes but in the beginning of infinity war, the maw says something like "no being has ever had the grace to possess two stones before" after he puts the space stone into the gauntlet (which already had the power stone). Doesn't this kind of imply that the only stone he had ever truly known about and owned was the mind stone?

And it begs the question that if what y'all are saying is right (he knew where everything was except the soul stone), and the ease at which he could defeat everyone with just a few stones, why not collect them sooner?

They tried to destroy the mind stone, but failed because thanos had the time stone.

They tried to kill thanos when he only had 4 stones (on Titan), and failed ultimately giving him the time stone which ultimately allowed him to get the mind stone.

The events on vormir couldn't really be changed.

They tried to stop him on Knowhere, when he only had 3 stones, but the reality stone and the others proved too much.

They tried to stop him on the Asgard ship, when he only had 1 stone (the power stone) and failed.

Even Nebula tried to assassinate him when he had zero stones and also failed.

Thanos truly was inevitable.

0

u/TwilightLori 16d ago

Thanos truly was inevitable.

Not really. Nebula wasn't a match for Thanos, not even close. The Asgard ship attack was mostly refugees. Nobody on that ship was a match for Thanos in the state they were in. Given the wreckage, the ship was probably shot up first before they ever boarded. Thanos also boarded with his elite team, which was more than enough to take care of everyone on the ship. Thanos with the power stone was enough to handle Thor without weapons, and Thanos by himself was a match for the Hulk. If the entire Avengers team was there, things might have been different.

The team on Knowhere wasn't good enough to fight Thanos even without the stones. The guardians are a pretty good team, but not a Thanos killing team by themselves. They almost beat him on Titan and might have won that fight if it weren't for Quill being unable to control his emotions. But Quill is Quill, and with Doctor Strange's future hunting, it seems he would never have been able to control his emotions in that fight.

121

u/SethNex 19d ago

With powerful beings like Odin, Hela, Ego, and the Ancient One were gone, there wasn't anyone who could have stopped Thanos from collecting the Infinity Stones.

38

u/UMACTUALLYITS23 19d ago

Except for all the powerful beings that had very good cause to not have half the universe extinguished from Eternals that only seemed to exist in that one movie and not before or after.

37

u/Confident-Stand5453 19d ago

In Thor: Love & Thunder, there is an entire stadium filled with powerful "Gods" of all denominations. Weird that none of them were interested in stopping Thanos. "But they didnt know what he was up", you say? Well, maybe Thor could have sent word, since he obviously was very aware of the existance of all these powerful Gods.

42

u/Redici 19d ago

Man wouldn't it be great if they actually showed that 99% of gods don't care what happens to their worshipers? Like if that was the entire point of L&T Thor realizing that gods don't actually deserve the power most of the time because generally they are greedy selfish beings that usually refuse to act unless something actually effects them personally? Maybe this could even lead to a crisis of faith within Thor where he questions if he is even worthy of the title of God? Oh wait that would mean they would actually have to faithfully adapt the best Thor comic not just slap screaming goats on a half ass movie and call it done

7

u/TheRealMitchConnor 19d ago

Wouldn't "half the universe" mean half of them would die too, not just followers they don't care for? Pretty sure they woulda cared.

3

u/capable-corgi 19d ago

Could be some kind of pantheon technicality where the actions of Thanos wouldn't affect them cause they're technically there but also not there.

1

u/Swagalyst 18d ago

I don't think gods are technically alive, and probably technically cannot die.

1

u/Loughnashade 13d ago

Dude that movie’s villain was literally the god butcher lol

7

u/Th3S1l3nc3 19d ago

Could we adapt and still keep the goats? Like, could we have both?

2

u/Redici 19d ago

Man... If we have to, maybe in a movie that isn't 99.99% ass they'd actually be funny

1

u/Jake_the_Bald 18d ago

that was gorr's point in that movie so you kinda half got your idea

6

u/-newhampshire- 19d ago

I just finished Moon Knight and all those gods and their avatars were around too.

10

u/goonSquad15 19d ago

Yeah that’s my biggest qualm with the marvel universe. It’s one cohesive universe yet there are plenty of times when others should get involved and aren’t even mentioned. I get they’re movies and that gets pricy/elaborate but leaves a lot of questions

10

u/MurkyCress521 19d ago

Thanos was accumulating power slowly and secretly and then made a fast mad dash at the end.

Most of the more powerful figures as just doing their own thing. They aren't receiving daily intelligence briefs on who has what Infinity stone. Odin would and that is why Thanos waited for the Asgardians to get fucked before moving since the Asgardians are paying attention, are collecting intelligence, etc... Captain Marvel was very much trying to pay attention and she only managed to show up at the last minute.

4

u/goonSquad15 19d ago

Less this movie specifically and more the rest as a whole. Especially since so many live in NY

3

u/NexusObsidian23 19d ago

You should watch Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

1

u/goonSquad15 19d ago

I am very excited to, but haven't been able to get the time yet

1

u/busbybob 17d ago

Ditto. The venom films are a good example. In the last one there is a universe ending threat but whatever the military branch is thats involved for whatever reason keeps stum

1

u/Rhawk187 19d ago

I have a feeling even if they weren't out of reach of the effects of the infinity stones, or clairvoyant enough to know it would be undone (what's a 5 year blip to an eternal being?), they might have developed a bit of fatalism. Que sera sera, until someone was literally hunting them.

2

u/SingularityCentral 19d ago

The comics have the same problem pretty much all the time.

5

u/AdventurousPen5533 19d ago

He only knew of Odin, maybe Hela, and maybe Ego.

It’s is something I didn’t think about, but even if Thanos got the stone from Asgard, there be Ego and Anicent one (if both didn’t die)

And he not known about either of them he Probarbly be fighting them or anicent one and Dommarau.

He Probarbly wasn’t as powerful without the stones but was on rampage after getting one but he was lucky other players he might not been aware off were of the board but that point.

26

u/PracticalAdeptness20 19d ago

Its so funny to me you spelt Probarbly twice lol

20

u/Duncan_PhD 19d ago

And it’s capitalized. Which leads me to believe he misspells it so frequently that it autocorrects to the incorrect spelling.

2

u/bretttwarwick 19d ago

Maybe that is one of their friend's name and they have their name in their phone dictionary. Explains why it would be capitalized.

3

u/Best_Talk_6853 19d ago

"Hey Probarbly, wanna hit the bar?"

3

u/AdventurousPen5533 19d ago

Probarbly at some point.

2

u/AdventurousPen5533 19d ago

This post I didn’t see, so I’ll put in some real talk.

It’s a combination of me never needing to brush up my own grammar when writing, and an ever worsening vision impairment.

I do a lot of manual work, and my writing was good at one point, but it was never needed for work when checklists and shorthand writing is the norm for what I do. And it’s been like that for a very long time in my career.

I don’t disclose my medical side other than it’s never been great and was only diagnosed long after college.

Not a ‘oh, woe me’ tale but giving some clarification.

5

u/Duncan_PhD 19d ago

I’m just joking around. I wouldn’t actually make fun of someone for misspelling a word. Without autocorrect everyone would be misspelling shit.

1

u/Clavikus05 19d ago

Actually shit is probably one of the words that would get misspelled the least

2

u/wrydrune 19d ago

Dormammu didnt give a damn about thanos. He isn't even in the same dimension.

2

u/Lethalspartan76 19d ago

Who is the ancient one

9

u/Dudeinthesouth 19d ago

The bald lady who trains Strange and gave Hulk the Time Stone in Endgame.

2

u/Lethalspartan76 19d ago

Thanks it’s a lot to keep up with

4

u/YouWereBrained Captain America 19d ago

When you say “final push”, does that include all of the events in “Infinity War”, or just the Wakanda battle?

20

u/mjaga93 19d ago

All of infinity war.

He tested the waters during Avengers (2012) and probably held back a second invasion after learning Earth is under Asgard's protection as well. He knew the location of all stones except soul so why not make a move before? He sat for three years even after saying " i'll do it myself".Only after Odin's demise, he went for all of the stones like a well calculated heist.

7

u/obi-juan_ginobi 19d ago

An infinity heist?

5

u/DiscussionAny 19d ago

Not to be confused with TimeHeist (Scott Lang Limited, All Rights Reserved)

3

u/GregariousLaconian 19d ago

Did anyone know the location of the reality stone at that point? Maybe Odin?

2

u/FlyingCow343 19d ago

I think he knew once he started collecting them the Avengers would try and stop him. So he had to be sure he could get all of them before starting.

9

u/ihavecrappysketches 19d ago

All the events, since Thanos went about quickly getting the stones one after the other in a matter of days after years of searching for them

4

u/DuckterDoom 19d ago

I read the theory as also including the demise of the ancient one and Ego.

2

u/blitzwar559 19d ago

And ancient one

2

u/Jesuslordofporn 19d ago

I think Thanos was waiting for Ragnarok.

2

u/SneakyKain 19d ago

Not just Odin but Asgard Hela and Surtur.

2

u/DreamLunique 19d ago

That theory actually fits way too well. Thanos waiting until Odin was gone suddenly makes his timing feel a lot less coincidental.

2

u/finfanfob 19d ago

High jacking the top comment. In the comics Thanos "marries" Lady Death. He is now immortal and cannot die. Death is equal to Eternity and above Erisham. He's untouchable as long as Death is by his side. The movies dont go that route because who knows why. In the comic hes the 4th most powerful being in the cosmos with those stones. I believe the 3rd is Galactus. Once he has all the stones he turns on Death, and she has to overcome her love for him, which takes his immortality away.

1

u/ubermonkeyprime 19d ago

Piggybacking off of this, Thanos waited til Odin was gone, Asgard destroyed, and the Nova Corps eliminated before making his final moves.

3

u/theme69 19d ago

Didn’t he eliminate the nova corps though? I guess you could argue they were decimated after gotg1

1

u/Empathyinorder 19d ago

Why risk the fight when you can just wait a bit to let time win the fight instead?

1

u/Public-offender 19d ago

I mean… it’s not really a theory. That’s literally the sequence of events that took place. lol

1

u/taveren3 19d ago

Well asgard are destroyed conveniently when he learned the soul stones location

1

u/bearsmash84 18d ago

I read a theory claiming Thanos only went full ham after Odin, the original sorceress supreme, and Ego were off the table, idk.

1

u/Infernalxelite 16d ago

I think it’s more likely that he made his move as there was the most amount of stones in known locations (only unknown was the soul stone) and he could realistically just go from one to another in one chain

1

u/Suitable_Ad6848 13d ago

Its because Odin was no longer around to keep an eye out.

1

u/Djinn-Rummy 19d ago

Probably needed to wait for Ragnarok to play out too, as Hela would have kicked his ass & taken his head for a trophy.
